The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.

Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.

Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.

The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2007 Ford F-450 sd problems

The 2007 Ford F-450 SD has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is related to the electrical system. Owners have reported problems with the driver's seat moving backwards while driving, making it difficult to reach the brake and accelerator pedals. Additionally, the radio has been known to turn on spontaneously, and the front windshield can fog up without any warning lights illuminated. When these issues occur, it can be challenging to diagnose and repair them, as some owners have reported that dealerships have been unable to duplicate the failure.

Another common problem reported by owners of the 2007 Ford F-450 SD is related to the fuel injector controls. In some cases, the fuel injector controls have gone out at less than 15,000 miles, causing the engine to run hot. If the engine runs too hot, it can cause the engine to burn up, which may require a new engine to be installed. In some cases, a new engine has been installed, but the turbo has not operated correctly, causing the truck to only pull a load at 50 mph.

The 2007 Ford F-450 SD has also been reported to have problems with the power windows. In some cases, the driver and passenger side power windows have failed to go up and down. Additionally, the dome lighting has failed to turn on, and there has been an abnormal clicking noise. These issues have been reported to occur at around 45,000 miles, and dealerships have been unable to provide assistance, as there are no recalls on the vehicle.

Emergency brake cable assembly and manual brake clutch assembly failures have also been reported in the 2007 Ford F-450 SD. These failures have occurred while consumers were utilizing components for towing, making it difficult to stop the vehicle safely. Additionally, the glow plug sensor and air condition sensor have been known to fail, causing further issues with the vehicle's performance.

The 2007 Ford F-450 SD has also been reported to have problems with the clutch plate. In some cases, the clutch plate has broken in the same spot every time it breaks, causing the motor to be too strong for the transmission. This can cause the clutch to tear up, making it difficult to shift gears and causing further issues with the vehicle's performance.

Recalls have also been issued for the 2007 Ford F-450 SD. One recall is related to the back-over prevention sensing system, where degradation of the camera's anti-reflective lens coating can lead to a foggy or cloudy rearview camera image. Another recall is related to the power train driveshaft, where a radial damper inside the driveshaft may move out of position over time, causing a driveshaft imbalance and resulting in a fracture.

In summary, the 2007 Ford F-450 SD has been reported to have several common problems, including electrical system issues, fuel injector control failures, power window problems, emergency brake and manual brake clutch assembly failures, clutch plate issues, and recalls related to the back-over prevention sensing system and power train driveshaft. These issues can cause significant performance and safety concerns, making it essential for owners to be aware of these problems and take appropriate action to address them.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2010-04-15
  • VIN: 1FDXW46P27E
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
  • Summary: FORD F450 DIESEL DELAMINATING FUEL TANKS CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD. THE DELAMINATION CAUSES THE FUEL SYSTEM TO NOT WORK PROPERLY SUCH AS THE INJECTORS CAUSING THE VEHICLES TO LOOSE POWER AND STALL. IT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES TO ME WITHOUT WARNING. THE TANK IS BEING RE-COATED BUT AFTER DOING SOME INVESTIGATION ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND EVEN THE FORD SERVICE TECH SAID IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN...AND MOST LIKELY WILL BECAUSE THE DIESEL FUEL IS INTERACTING WITH WHATEVER THEY PUT ON THE TANKS CAUSING IT TO ERODE. FORD WILL NOT COVER THIS. I HAVE FOUND INFORMATION SAYING IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO TANKS WITH THESE TWO IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS YC35-9K007-F8 AND 5C34-9K007-RA. I GUESS IF FORD ACKNOWLEDGED THIS THEY WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THESE DEFECTIVE TANKS. BUT BY BLAMING THE DIESEL FUEL...THEY ARE NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE. HOWEVER IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ON OTHER TRUCKS SUCH AS DODGE, CHEVY, ETC. SOMETHING REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE TO WARN OTHERS BEFORE SOMEONE STALLS AND CAUSES A WRECK. ALOT OF THESE TRUCKS ARE USED IN BUSINESS AND CARRY HEAVY LOADS. *TR
