AFTER CALLING THAT DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THAT THE PARTS HAVE BEEN AVAILABLE FOR A WHILE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER SINCE MY LIFE CAN BE AT DANGER EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR. IT SEEMS TO BE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SAABS AND IT APPEARS THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON HERE. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND PAID FOR BY GM, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT PROPERTY BUILD THIS ENGINE IF SO MANY ARE FAILING. MY CAR WILL TURN OVER AND NOT START IN THE COLD WEATHER.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Summary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

  • Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 Saab 9-3 vehicles manufactured May 31, 2002, to February 15, 2011, 2006-2009 Saab 9-5 vehicles manufactured June 7, 2005, to May 28, 2009, and 2008-2009 Saturn Astra vehicles manufactured April 11, 2007, to July 24, 2008. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator on Saab 9-3 and 9-5 vehicles and will replace the driver's frontal airbag module on Saturn Astra vehicles, free of charge. The recall began on March 1, 2017. Owners may contact Saab customer service at 1-800-955-9007 or Saturn customer service at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 28810.

  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2011 Saab 9-3 Convertible vehicles manufactured July 30, 2003, to February 15, 2011. In the affected vehicles, the driver's side front seat belt retractor may break, causing the seat belt webbing not to retract.
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash, a seat belt that has not retracted may not properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing their risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's seat belt retractor, free of charge. The recall began on October 6, 2015. Owners may contact Saab customer service at 1-800-955-9007. GM's number for this recall is 14222. Note: Special Coverage 10086 will replace the passenger side seat belt retractor if it fails, free of charge, for the life of the vehicle.

  • Summary: TI AUTOMOTIVE IS RECALLING CERTAIN FUEL PUMPS, PART NUMBERS TU456 AND TU303, SOLD UNDER VARIOUS BRAND NAMES AS AFTERMARKET AND REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR THE MOTOR VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. THE DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP MAY SEIZE, STOPPING THE FUEL FLOW TO THE ENGINE CREATING A STALLING CONDITION.
  • Consequence: A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR SHOULD THE ENGINE STALL WHILE IN USE.
  • Remedy: TI AUTOMOTIVE WILL NOTIFY OWNERS OF RECORD AND WILL REPLACE ANY DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP WITH A NEW OR REWORKED FUEL PUMP FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 22, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TI AUTOMOTIVE AT 1-866-867-3759 OR LOG ON TO WWW.RECALLRESPONSE.COM.

    Although my Saab has a great turbo pick up, I have experienced some issues with the electronics. Despite having them repaired, the electronic locks still do not seem to work correctly. The frequent and costly repairs have caused me to reconsider my ownership of this vehicle. While I understand that repairs are expected for an older vehicle, the constant and expensive repairs have become a burden. Recently, I had my vehicle towed to the dealership where they replaced the battery. Although it worked for a short period of time, it is now sitting in my driveway and I cannot afford to have it towed for another repair. However, I am confident that I will find a solution to this issue and get my Saab back on the road soon.

    You should definitely consider visiting your Saab dealer and purchasing this car. It's a rare find, with only 600 imported into the US and I suspect only 200 are Combis. You'll definitely turn heads and be one of the few owners. It's high performance and practical, which makes it a great choice. I drove this car through 3 horrible driving rain storms between PA and KS, and it handled like it was on dry road. It's sure to impress and make an impact on the young lads with hopped up Civics etc and even tick off BMW and Merc owners. It's a great ego booster while still being subtle. The total aesthetic is well executed - a piece of Swedish art. Don't be swayed by the tepid reviews - if you love cars, this is the real deal. Saab has hit another home run.

    Congratulations on your new Saab! It's great to hear that you're enjoying it so far. While it can be a bit noisy with the top up in traffic, the stereo does a good job of helping to overcome that. The engine is energetic and delivers good around-town acceleration. However, the transmission can be slow to downshift in the standard driving mode. Visibility is okay, but the soft top does create some blind spots when up. Your fuel mileage was okay for the first two tanks, averaging 21.5mpg with mostly city driving. Overall, it sounds like a great car, especially if you can get a good deal. If not, there are other options out there that might be a bit classier for the same price. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

    I picked up my second 9-3 in April, which replaced my '05 Linear SS. I absolutely loved my first one, so I was excited to get my second. Unfortunately, my Aero hasn't quite lived up to my expectations. It has had to visit the Service Department way too often, mainly due to Bose radio and sound system issues. I'm currently on my fifth visit to fix the problem. I missed most of my three-month XM Free Trial, which was disappointing. I have to say, I'm unimpressed with the build quality and materials used in my Aero. I've already noticed several squeaks and rattles, and the plastics look and feel cheap. I've even worn a hole through my floor mat in less than 90 days. However, I must say that the car is great and fun to drive...when I actually have it. The premium leather is a nice touch, but $1500+ is tough to justify.
