2012 Ford F-450 sd problems

The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.

Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.

Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.

The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2012 Ford F-450 sd problems

The 2012 Ford F-450 Super Duty, a heavy-duty pickup truck, has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. These issues span across various components of the vehicle, including the electrical system, fuel injector controls, spark plugs, power windows, emergency brake cable assembly, and more.

  • Fuel Injector Controls: Another problem reported by owners is related to the fuel injector controls. In one case, the fuel injector controls went out at less than 15,000 miles, causing the engine to run hot. Eventually, the engine burned up at less than 60,000 miles. After replacing the engine, the turbo began operating incorrectly, causing the truck to only pull a load at 50 mph. This issue not only affects the engine's performance but also its longevity.
  • Spark Plugs: A design flaw with the Ford engines has been reported, where one of the spark plugs blew out of the head at less than 15,000 miles. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home but had to order a repair kit, which cost $300 and took 4 hours to install. This issue can lead to engine misfires and decreased performance.
  • Power Windows: Owners have reported issues with the power windows, specifically the driver and passenger side windows, which failed to go up and down. Additionally, the dome lighting failed to turn on, and there was an abnormal clicking noise. This issue can be inconvenient and affect the overall driving experience.
  • Emergency Brake Cable Assembly: The emergency brake cable assembly has been reported to break, causing the manual brake clutch assembly to fail. This issue occurred while the consumer was utilizing components for towing, making it a critical safety concern.
  • Glow Plug Sensor: The glow plug sensor has also been reported to fail, affecting the vehicle's ability to start in cold weather conditions. This issue can be particularly problematic for drivers in colder climates.
  • Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor: The Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGT) has been reported to fail, causing the engine management system to shut down the engine and prevent its immediate restart. This issue can be dangerous, especially in emergency situations where a quick restart is necessary.
  • Fuel Conditioning Module Shield: The protective shield on the fuel conditioning module may have inadequate adhesion, allowing the shield to become dislodged. This issue can lead to debris entering the fuel system and potentially causing damage.

These issues, while not exhaustive, provide a snapshot of the common problems reported by owners of the 2012 Ford F-450 Super Duty. It is essential for potential buyers to be aware of these issues and consider them when making a purchasing decision.

STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2013-08-14
  • VIN: 1FT8W4DT2CE
  • Components: STEERING,SERVICE BRAKES
  • Summary: THE A/C COMPRESSOR JUST WENT OUT FOR THE SECOND TIME AND FROM WHAT IT LOOKS TO ME IS WHY THE SECOND FAILURE HAS OCCURRED IS BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT REPLACE THE CONDENSER AS WAS REQUIRED AND ALSO PAID FOR BY ME. THE TRUCK HAS THE "DEATH-WOBBLE" EVEN THOUGH I HAVE REINFORCED THE STEERING IN GENERAL AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. HOWEVER, DUE TO JUST THESE TWO ISSUES AND THE OTHERS IT HAS HAD WHICH ARE FAILED WATER PUMP, TURBO, STARTER AND HYDRO-BOOST BRAKE BOOSTER WITH THE WATER PUMP GOING OUT AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES AND THEN THE TURBO AT ABOUT 82,000 MILES WITH THE WORK PERFORMED AT TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS AT A VERY POOR QUALITY I REPLACED THE STARTER MYSELF AND THE HYDRO-BOOST. YOU CANNOT TRUST A DEALERSHIP WHEN THE WORKED PERFORMED IS AT BEST NO BETTER THAN WHAT I CAN PERFORM. JUST LIKE RIGHT NOW OR FOR QUITE A LONG TIME IT HAS HAD THE TWO FIELD SERVICE ACTION ITEMS BEING NUMBERS: 15M02 AND 18M01 AND AFTER READING THE HORROR STORIES ABOUT AND OR AFTER A DEALERSHIP HAS PERFORMED THESE TWO FUNCTIONS ON OTHER SUCH PERSON(S) VEHICLES, I MOST LIKELY WILL NOT LET A DEALERSHIP TOUCH MINE.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-11-29
  • VIN: 1FDXF4HT3CE
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: AS PER YOUR ODI RESUME #RQ14-005, MY RV BUILT ON 2012 CHASSIS EXPERIENCED EGT SENSOR MALFUNCTION TO NUMBER 13 AND 14. THIS OCCURRED ON I-75 OUTSIDE OF LEXINGTON, KY. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO BE IN THE RIGHT LANE AND JUST BARELY PULLED TO THE SHOULDER BEFORE THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. HAD TO CALL STATE POLICE BECAUSE OF THE CLOSE PROXIMITY TO TRAVEL LANE AND VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR OTHER VEHICLES. THIS TRIP STARTED IN CLEMMONS, NC, AND INCLUDED 2 TUNNELS WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN A DISASTER IF THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN EITHER ONE. CALLED FORD ABOUT RECALL FOR AMBULANCE CHASSIS SINCE THIS SEEMS TO BE SAME TYPE. THEY STATED THE COMPUTER PROGRAM IS DIFFERENT AND THEREFORE THE RECALL DOES NOT PERTAIN TO MY UNIT. *TR

VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN, IMMEDIATE, AND TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKE CAPABILITY. VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD. EXTREME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO BRAKE PEDAL BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD. POWER STEERING WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL CAUSING EXTREME DIFFICULTY IN STEERING VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY PUT INTO NEUTRAL UNTIL IT SLOWED ENOUGH TO PUT INTO REVERSE AND STOP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD. VEHICLE ALMOST HIT ROAD SIGN BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. BRAKES AND POWER STEERING WERE NON FUNCTIONAL. VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY MOVED BACKWARD TO GET IT OUT OF THE ROAD PATH USING REVERSE/NEUTRAL POSITIONING. VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND CHECKED FOR POSSIBLE LOSS OF POWER STEERING/BRAKE BOOSTER SYSTEM FLUID. FLUID LEVEL WAS JUST BELOW MAXIMUM LEVEL MARK, SO NO LOSS OF FLUID IN POWER STEERING/POWER BRAKING BOOSTER SYSTEM HAD OCCURRED. UPON RESTART, POWER STEERING SYSTEM WAS MARGINALLY FUNCTIONAL WITH GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM POWER STEERING/POWER BRAKING BOOSTER SYSTEM WHEN STEERING WHEEL TURNED OR BRAKE PEDAL APPLIED.
