1996 Ford F-250 problems
The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.
Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.
Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.
The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 1996 Ford F-250 problems
The 1996 Ford F-250 has been reported to have various common problems by its owners, with the most prevalent issues being related to interior accessories, electrical, and engine problems.
- Interior Accessories Issues:
The 1996 Ford F-250 has had 2 reported problems related to interior accessories. These issues primarily concern the airbox and the air tube connected to the back of the air filter. The airbox lid may have two plastic bolts with a square recess, which is a recalled part. Without the updated lid, the risk of dirt infiltration is greater. The updated lid has more supports and metal bolts with a straight slot. If it is the old style, it may cost around $80 to update it.
- Electrical Issues:
There have been 19 reported electrical problems for the 1996 Ford F-250. These issues can be related to the coolant system, where the previous owner may have added FW16 or DCA4 to keep a proper SCA level. It is essential to maintain the coolant to prevent cavitation. Test strips can be used to check the SCA level. Also, check if the truck has a block heater, which was an option on 97's.
- Engine Problems:
The 1996 Ford F-250 has had 43 reported engine problems. The most common issue is related to the injector O-rings, which have been known to be a problem. The new o-ring sets have a pink middle seal. If the truck has an o-ring problem, one of the signs can be a discoloration of the fuel in the filter bowl. There is a drain on the passenger side front of the filter bowl for draining water, and the drained fuel should be dingy yellow and not blue or dark.
In summary, the 1996 Ford F-250 has several common problems related to interior accessories, electrical, and engine issues. These problems can be resolved by checking the airbox lid, maintaining the coolant system, and checking the injector O-rings.

I use this truck for pulling 90% of the time and it will pull anything. With its 351cc engine and impressive low-end torque, it's a real powerhouse!
-
Ford tough, enough said.
-
It's great to have this truck! As my friends say, it's the last of the trucks. It pulls my 32ft camper with ease and even handles the beach terrain without any issues. Of course, being a 3/4 ton truck and not a half ton, it's not the most fuel-efficient. Mine has a 351 and has already clocked 166,000 miles, but it's still going strong for now.
-
This vehicle spent winters in the south, so it did not come in contact with snow and salt. The owner, who was a trained diesel mechanic, had a reputation for excellent maintenance on their vehicles.
-
I bought this amazing vehicle from a seller in Alabama last year. It's an awesome ride! I use it to pull a large covered lawn trailer, and even a 10x8 motocross trailer when I first got it. It pulls like crazy and can go through anything in the woods. I once drove it through 3 feet of water in a swamp and it felt like I was on I-10. The only issue I had was with the front seal on the transmission, but other than that, the truck has been 100% reliable.

Your '95 F250 has been performing impressively even under heavy stress. We have been using it to tow a 16' trailer and haul heavy loads like bricks or other building materials. The 460 engine always starts well and has lots of power and torque despite being a fairly primitive engine design. Although the fuel economy is usually anywhere from 9 mpg city/12 mpg highway, depending on the load and wind conditions, the truck has been a solid and reliable work truck. The only issues we have encountered are some rear brake problems, cheap interior plastic parts, and some issues with the clutch linkage.
