WHILE DRIVING (ALWAYS UPHILL, WITH ACCELERATOR DEPRESSED, AND USUALLY IN 3RD GEAR AT AROUND 30 MPH) THE ENGINE (AND POWER STEERING) SIMPLY CUTS OUT (TACH DROPS TO ZERO). IT IS POSSIBLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART IT BY PUSHING IN THE CLUTCH AND TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A VW DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED A FUEL RELAY AND CONDUCTED THE FULL 60,000 MILE MAINTENANCE BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED USED AND IS A LEMON-LAW BUYBACK ('COURSE THEY DIDN'T TELL ME THAT UNTIL I HAD MY HEART SET ON BUYING IT). AS I DRIVE 20 MILES EACH WAY ON A VERY CURVY ROAD WITH FEW TURNOUTS IN THE SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS, THIS PROBLEM POSES A THREAT TO THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND OTHERS. I got this as my first car and it has over 200k and I have had no trouble whatsoever! It is extremely reliable and totally fun! It is such a sound car mechanically, I would buy another one!
-
I've had it 1 1/2 years. one owner neighbor put less than 10k on a year. fun...until it started jumping. it never had a tune up till last week---85k!!! that says a lot. I have put 2 new mufflers on--- at least I had a warrenty. the tune up was 300 bucks, so please take care of your vw, cause those parts are expensive, and shame on my neighbor for not taking care of her..

This is a used car, but don't worry, it's still in great condition! I particularly enjoy driving it on sunny summer days. It may run a bit slower in the city, but it really picks up speed on the highway. It's worth noting that there have been some issues after 100,000kms, such as the light bulb not always working and the parts being more expensive than those of Japanese cars. However, overall, I believe that VW still produces high-quality cars.

I really enjoyed my Cabrio so much that I decided to drop a 16V Turbo in it, which doubled the power output of the 8V that some people are driving around. It's really fun to drive with coilovers and poly everything.

"shame on me" ! I ordered this car online ... ran the CARFAX (ccame out "clean"). What a beauty she was when she arived- just screamed FUN ! .... wrong answer ! Has been a true to life money pit ! We dropped about 1 K in it as soon as it arrived ( changing oil, hoses- you name it !). But had/still has electrical problems that baffle everyone !!! It's been a spooky, fun, totally un-predictable lil car to drive. After dumping over 2k in the car - we are now trying to sell it= gulllpppp.
