2010 Ford Expedition problems
The Ford Expedition is a full-size three-row SUV, manufactured by Ford. Introduced for the 1997 model year as the successor of the Ford Bronco, the Expedition was the first full-size Ford SUV sold with a four-door body. For its entire production life, the Ford Expedition has been derived from the corresponding generation of the Ford F-150 in production, sharing some body and mechanical components. The fourth-generation Ford Expedition began production for the 2018 model year. Similar to the configuration of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the Ford Expedition is sold in regular and extended lengths (the Ford Expedition EL/Max); sold since 2007, the latter functionally serves as the replacement for the Ford Excursion.
Since 1997, the Lincoln division has marketed the Ford Expedition as the Lincoln Navigator, the first full-size SUV sold by a luxury auto brand in North America (the Expedition was never sold as a Mercury). The third Ford vehicle to use the Expedition nameplate, the full-size SUV follows a 1992 F-150 Eddie Bauer concept vehicle and a 1995 trim level package on the two-door Ford Explorer Sport.
Prior to 2009, the Ford Expedition was assembled at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan (previously home to the Ford Bronco). After 2009, the Ford Expedition was moved to the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky.

- Summary: My vehicle will just shut off. No warning. No lights. It shuts off, I have to turn on my hazards, put it in park and restart the vehicle. It has shut off whether I am going forward/straight or turning, going 25 MPH - 40 MPH. it has shut off as I am turning and cars are coming down the street; at a school zone; under an under pass; one time we were on the freeway and it kept wanting to shut off but had to really press on the gas to keep it going and thankfully we made it to the service center. Sometimes it feels like the gas peddle is pushing my foot back. you press on the gas and nothing happens. Other times it seems to accelerate on its own. I have had this happen multiple times since we bought the vehicle in May of 2022., sometimes 4 or 5 times in a day. I have taken it to two different service places and neither could replicate the problem. One mechanic told me he thinks it could be the body control module. I take my niece and nephews to and from school and it certainly does not feel safe, but it is my only working vehicle and it is aggravating and I am getting tired and frustrated of this happening. PLEASE HELP.

AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-07-30
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 1FMJU1F51AE
- Components: AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE
- Summary: 2010 FORD EXPEDITION WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND. A 2007 CHEVY SILVERADO THAT WAS ON THE NORTHBOUND SIDE, MADE A LEFT-HAND TURN IN FRONT OF THE EXPEDITION WITHOUT YIELDING RIGHT OF WAY TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE EXPEDITION WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH AND THE BRAKES LOCKED UP LEAVING SKID MARKS ON THE PAVEMENT. THERE WAS NO TIME TO REACT AS IT TOOK PLACE SO QUICKLY. THE VEHICLES COLLIDED RIGHT FRONT TO RIGHT FRONT. THEN AS THE VEHICLES CONTINUED IN MOTION THE EXPEDITION WAS DRAGGED SIDEWAYS INTO A T-BONE TYPE POSITION WITH THE SIDE OF THE SILVERADO, AND THE FRONT OF THE EXPEDITION SLIDE DOWN THE SIDE OF THE SILVERADO IN THIS POSITION CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE SILVERADO'S PASSENGER FRONT FENDER, DOOR, EXTENDED CAB DOOR AND FRONT OF THE BEDSIDE. THE BACKEND OF THE SILVERADO CAME UP OFF OF THE GROUND AND THEN THE VEHICLES SEPARATED. THE WHOLE FRONT OF THE EXPEDITION WAS TAKEN OFF. IT WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS SURPRISED THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND ADVISED US TO STAY OUT OF THE VEHICLE AT THAT POINT. THERE WERE THREE OCCUPANTS IN THE EXPEDITION, ALL WEARING SEATBELTS, INCLUDING THE DRIVER, A PASSENGER IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT AND A PASSENGER IN THE RIGHT SEAT OF THE SECOND ROW OF SEATING. THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER WAS HEAVILY BRUISED ACROSS THE CHEST FROM THE SEATBELT LOCKING UP. HOWEVER THAT PARTICULAR SEATBELT WOULD OFTEN LOCK UP AND START CINCHING DOWN ON WHOEVER WAS OCCUPYING THAT SEAT ON A REGULAR BASIS PRIOR TO THIS ACCIDENT. AND WHEN THE SEAT BELT WOULD DO SO IT WOULD HAVE TO BE UNFASTENED AND LET TO PULL ALL THE WAY BACK IN, PULLED BACK OUT AND REFASTENED. SO EVEN WITH ITS PRIOR APPARENT DEFECT IT STILL LOCKED UP IN THE COLLISION, JUST NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.

TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-08-17
- VIN: 1FMJU1K50AE
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: I PURCHASED A NEW SET OF PIRELLI TIRES FOR MY 2010 FORD EXPEDITION IN FEB. 2015 & THEY COST ME $1,800.00. I THOUGHT I WAS PAYING FOR A A BETTER SET OF TIRES. IN AUG.,6 MTH. LATER, MY FAMILY WENT ON A TRIP TO NC IN THE EXPEDITION & ON OUR WAY HOME MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE COMPLETELY CAME APART FROM THE INSIDE OUT ON THE INTERSTATE. MY TIRE SENSOR LIGHT HAD COME ON MAYBE 10 MINUTES AT MOST PRIOR TO THE TIRE EXPLODING, WE SHOULD'VE HAD TIME TO MAKE IT TO A GAS STATION. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO SARASOTA FORD THE NEXT DAY & WAS TOLD I SHOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY PUT A SPARE ON MY CAR & BROUGHT THE TIRE IN BECAUSE MOST LIKELY THE VALVE STEM WAS LEAKING & THEY WOULD'VE COVERED THE TIRE. JIMMY SAID THAT I RUINED THE TIRE BECAUSE OF DRIVING ON IT WITH LOW TIRE PRESSURE. I PAID THE $225.BECAUSE I STILL HAD A SPARE TIRE ON MY CAR & I WASN'T COMFORTABLE WITH IT & I WASN'T GETTING ANYWHERE TRYING TO TELL HIM THAT I DIDN'T BELIEVE YOU CAN BE GIVEN A 10 MIN.WARNING TO GET YOUR TIRE OFF THE ROAD BEFORE IT JUST DISINTEGRATES. I'M NOT SURE IF IT WOULD'VE GONE DIFFERENTLY IF I'D BEEN A GUY! I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH SARASOTA FORD A LONG TIME & THEY HAVE ALL OF MY SERVICE LOG RECORDS. I GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000 MI , MY TIRES ROTATED EVERY OTHER OIL CHANGE & THE RECORDS WILL SHOW THAT I TAKE CARE OF ANY NEEDS THAT MY CAR HAS, I DON'T IGNORE THEM AS HE WOULD IMPLY. I'M EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN SARASOTA FORD FOR BEING SO QUICK TO BLAME ME FOR THIS TIRE FAILURE & I'M OBVIOUSLY NOT HAPPY WITH PERELLI TIRE EITHER. I AM VERY THANKFUL WE WERE JUST VERY INCONVENIENCED & NO ONE WAS HURT. LUCKILY THERE ARE MANY OTHER CHOICES FOR TIRES & TIRE COMPANIES FOR THE REST OF OUR VEHICLES.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-04-14
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 1FMJK1K53AE
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: ON 04/14/2015 MY FRIEND OUR 2010 FORD EXPEDITION EL LIMITED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND WENT INTO THE HOUSE. APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS LATER SHE HEARD THE ALARM GO OFF AND WENT OUTSIDE TO INVESTIGATE. THE CAR HAD DARK TINTS ON THE WINDOWS BUT THE CAR LOOKED DARKER THAN NORMAL THEN SHE REALIZED SHE COULDN'T SEE IN THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS FULL OF BLACK SMOKE. A FEW SECONDS LATER SHE SAW A SPARK COMING FROM THE MIDDLE SECTION OF THE DASH BOARD THEN ALL THE WINDOWS BLEW OUT AT ONCE AND THE CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. SHE CALLED 911 AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MANAGED TO KEEP THE FIRE FROM SPREADING TO MY HOUSE AND MY NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE. THE FIRE WAS SO HOT IT MELTED THE FRAMES OF MY WINDOWS AND SCORCHED THE SIDING ON THAT SIDE OF THE HOUSE. THE TREE, BUSHES , GRASS AND LIRIOPE ON THAT SIDE OF THE HOUSE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THERE IS GLASS ALL OVER MY YARD. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. I UNDERSTAND THAT FORD HAS HAD SIMILAR FIRES IN THE PAST WITH EARLIER MODELS. APPARENTLY THEY HAVE NOT FIXED ALL OF THE PROBLEMS. THE CAR WAS WORKING WELL UNTIL THE DAY IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE ARSON INVESTIGATOR SAID THAT IT LOOKED LIKE IT MIGHT HAVE STARTED IN THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM. NOW I AM READING THAT FORD HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH A "DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH THAT HAS CAUSED TRUCKS TO GO UP IN FLAMES? SIMILAR TO HOW MY EXPEDITION WAS DESTROYED. I ALSO READ THAT FORD EXPEDITIONS AS WELL AS OTHER FORD TRUCKS HAVE HAD A ?POSSIBLE DEFECT IN THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH?. THE ARTICLE STATED THAT, ?SOME SWITCHES COULD LEAK. BECAUSE THE SWITCH HAS ELECTRICAL POWER AT ALL TIMES, THE LEAKING FLUID COULD IGNITE AND CAUSE A FIRE, EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS UNATTENDED?. REGARDLESS OF HOW IT HAPPENED THE TRUCK OBVIOUSLY HAD A DEFECT. I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS AND MY NEIGHBORS HAVE VIDEO OF THE FIRE. *TR

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-10-01
- VIN: 1FMPU155X5L
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
- Summary: I WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM AN IDLE POSITION TO ENTER A HIGHWAY. IN THE PROCESS OF ACCELERATION, MY ENGINE BEGAN TO KICK AND STUTTER LIKE IT WAS NOT TAKING IN ENOUGH GAS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS MATTER TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP WITHOUT A SATISFACTORY ANSWER. A COLLEAGUE OF MINE WHO OWNS THE EXACT SAME STYLE, MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME EXACT ACTIONS AND ALSO VISITED THE SAME FORD DEALERSHIP (WORLD FORD) AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE KICKING OR BUCKING OF THE ENGINE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE TORQUE CONVERTER THAT FORD IS UNWILLING TO REPLACE (A $2000 JOB). THE DEALERSHIP HAS PLACED FLUID IN THE ENGINE WITHOUT ANY RESOLUTION. THIS IS MY 3RD EXPEDITION. WHILE I AM HAPPY WITH FORD, THERE IS CLEARLY A DEFECT (DUE TO SIMILAR ACTIONS IN ITS OTHER MODELS). THEY CHOSE TO IGNORE THE PROBLEM. I NEED A RESOLVE IMMEDIATELY. *TR

This is definitely a truck, but a really nice one at that. As someone who has owned multiple Suburbans and an Expedition in the past, I can confidently say that the redesigned 2009 Expedition is in a league of its own. The ride is smooth and quiet, and every detail from the front bumper to the backup camera has been carefully thought through. The gauges are easy to read, the stereo has exceptional sound quality, and the power fold down rear seats are a game changer. The backup camera is also well-designed and displayed. It's hard to find a comparison that can match up to this truck.

Your 2010 Expedition SSV 4x4 sounds like an amazing vehicle! It was purchased at a police auction in 2013 with 82k miles and drove great, never leaving you stranded anywhere. The only issues you ever had were replacing the water pump and one wheel bearing at around 180k miles. You sold the truck in 2020 with an impressive 403k miles on the original engine and transmission. You would definitely own it again with a 10/10 rating. It's a shame that the Yukon you bought after was a huge mistake, but it's great to hear that you're back to Ford!
-
We've been driving the Limited for over a month now and it's been both practical and enjoyable. We opted for the upgraded package which includes 20's Nav, moon roof, deployable running boards, heated/cooled seats, and rear load leveling suspension. The ride is smooth and quiet. We were initially considering both the Yukon and Expedition, but after test driving and comparing the cost and features of each, the Expedition was the clear winner. Also, at the moment, I preferred not to drive a Government Motors car, although I do love GMC cars.
-
I recently purchased a pre-owned Expedition and I absolutely love it! I looked at all the competition, including the QX56. However, in comparison to the Expedition, the QX felt tinny and the technology was lacking. The Expedition's biggest selling feature was the fact that parts like brakes and rotors are much more affordable than those of the Infinity. Additionally, with 4000 Ford dealers across the country compared to only 500 Infinity dealers, it's much more convenient to get service for my Expedition. Plus, it feels great to buy American! In this day and age, I can't see myself buying a Japanese car as they just seem to be cheaply made...

If you're in the market for an SUV, this one is definitely worth considering. I recently traded in my 2002 Ford Expedition for the 2009 model and I have to say, Ford really outdid themselves with this one. The interior on the Limited model is top-notch and the performance, handling, comfort, and road noise are all excellent. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient option out there, that's to be expected with a larger SUV. It's perfect for family road trips or just cruising around town in style. Personally, I went with the black on black model and added all the available options.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2010 Expedition. I had an issue with the power window motor shortly after purchasing it in November 2009. The dealership greased it up and said it was fine, but unfortunately, it turned out to be the beginning of a frustrating situation. Over the past year, I've had to bring it in for the same issue nine times, and it still hasn't been resolved. I'm a lifelong Ford fan, but I'm starting to consider other options. Thank you for listening!

This is my wife's dream car. After driving it for 2 weeks and taking a 3-hour road trip, I have to say that it is quite an expensive vehicle. As someone who has been a Ford enthusiast for years, I was disappointed with the 5.4 V8 engine's performance, even with 6 spd downshifts. While I loved my 97F150, this truck did not meet my expectations. It handles like a brick and wallows in the wind. Additionally, the recommended 7500 miles between oil changes may lead to increased engine wear, which is not covered by the warranty. This could result in excessive oil leakage and low compression before 100k miles. Lastly, the front headrest is uncomfortable and nonadjustable. However, I understand that everyone has different preferences and experiences. Thank you for letting me share mine.

This is the third expedition that I have owned. Although I have been experiencing some issues with my vehicle, I have found that Ford's customer service has remained consistent since 2003. Despite having to visit 3 dealerships and 6 shops, the staff at Ford have been friendly and helpful throughout the process. While there is still a vibration in the front end after 800 miles, the team at Ford has been working hard to address the issue and have even replaced a faulty tire. I appreciate their efforts and am confident that they will continue to work with me until the issue is resolved. Thank you, Ford, for your dedication to customer satisfaction!

I purchased this vehicle in November 2009, and unfortunately experienced some issues with the electronics that required a two-week repair. In January 2010, the heated seats stopped working, and in April, the sunroof would not open. While these issues have been disappointing, I remain confident in the overall reliability of this vehicle.
