2014 Acura Tl problems
The Acura TL is a car that was manufactured by Acura, the luxury division of Honda. It was introduced in 1995 to replace the Acura Vigor and was badged for the Japanese-market from 1996 to 2000 as the Honda Inspire and from 1996 to 2004 as the Honda Saber. The TL was Acura's best-selling model until it was outsold by the MDX in 2007. In 2005, it ranked as the second best-selling luxury sedan in the United States behind the BMW 3 Series, but sales decreased after the 2008 model year. Four generations of the Acura TL were produced, with the final fourth generation TL premiering in 2008 as a 2009 model and ending production in 2014, when it was replaced together with the TSX by the TLX.
First generation (UA1–UA3; 1996–1998)
The TL "Touring Luxury" debuted as 1996 model, first with the 1996 2.5 TL available with the 2.5 L 176 hp (131 kW) SOHC 20-valve 5-cylinder engine from the Vigor. The 3.2 TL used the 3.2 L 200 hp (149 kW) SOHC 24v V6 from the second generation Acura Legend. The model with the 2.0-liter inline-five was not offered in the US market. The debut of the TL signaled Acura's shift from traditional vehicle names to alphanumeric designations. By replacing recognizable names such as Vigor and Legend with a two-letter designation, the luxury maker hoped to focus consumer attention on the Acura name. The TL was the first Acura model to adopt the new naming scheme.
The 2.5 TL was positioned as the sporty model and the 3.2 focused more upon a luxurious ride. There were minimal styling differences between the two, but the 3.2 TL had larger tires despite the 2.5 TL's more sporty marketing. Moreover, the added power in the 3.2 TL gave it better acceleration. Both engines were mounted in a front-rear, or longitudinal position. This contrasted with the more typical transverse engine mount style, and was intended to provide better weight distribution and reduce nose dive. The engine mount design resulted in an elongated hood for the first generation TL, a shorter front overhang and longer wheelbase, fitting for a near-luxury car. The inline-5 engine in the 2.5 TL competed with similar 5-cylinder engines offered in Audi and Volvo models.
The first 1996 Acura TL was manufactured at Sayama, Japan on March 28, 1995. Sales of the 2.5 TL began in spring 1995, but the 3.2 TL was delayed until fall because of a U.S.-Japan trade dispute. The U.S. government had threatened to impose 100% tariffs on higher-priced Japanese cars in response a growing U.S.-Japan trade deficit. Ultimately a deal was reached which avoided the tariffs.
The first generation Acura TL had standard features including dual airbags, antilock brakes, automatic climate control, a cassette/CD player sound system, and power windows and locks. Leather was standard on the more upscale 3.2 TL, while the 2.5 TL featured a firmer suspension setup. Like its predecessor, the Vigor, this generation TL was a 4-door pillared hardtop, with frameless windows.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-04
- VIN: 19UUA8F51EA
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: After driving the vehicle for about 30 minutes a red flashing dash warning light came on with an alarm that there is a power steering problem, after which power steering was lost. Parked the vehicle for two hours to have dinner and then proceeded home with normal steering until reaching home when the same dash warning light and alarm occurred. The following day had vehicle towed to dealership to diagnose the problem. They could not duplicate the problem, and no computer code of failure was recorded, therefore they could not therefore proceed to execute a repair, so I picked up the vehicle and drove home. I called Honda customer service to open a case number for my issue and the called the following day and basically told me what the dealership told me. I have since driven the vehicle several times without issue, however, am concerned that my wife is the primary driver and being elderly will have extreme difficulty in maneuvering the vehicle if she encounters a power steering failure.

WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-05
- VIN: 19UUA8F54EA
- Components: WHEELS
- Summary: My 2014 Acura TL with 36,000 miles has developed serious aluminum alloy wheel corrosion and metal peeling on all four (4) wheels and results in intermittent tire pressure loss. The Acura company refuses to replace at their cost the defective material alloy wheels which cost and the dealer is requesting per wheel $357.00 plus 245$ plus labour and for new tire pressure sensors located inside on the mag wheels. I believe that they did not use the proper balancing weights which are clearly recommend that Acura weights be used. I have investigated the cause of this problem by consulting with automotive engineers and it is certainly in their view related to poor quality mag surface coating which causes moisture to enter in between the rim and wheel thus resulting in wheel corrosion and loss of tire pressure which when driving can result in a serious accident. Yes, tire pressure waring lights came on frequently. The Dealer did inspect the and notice the corrosion last fall (2020). It is in their files and noted on my invoice. Please note that I live in Quebec Canada J0E 1B0.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2016-04-29
- VIN: 19UUA9F57EA
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA INFLATORS: I AM VERY DISSATISFIED WITH HOW HONDA/ACURA IS HANDLING THE RECALL OF THE 2014 ACURA TL AWD THAT I AM CURRENTLY LEASING. THE TWO OPTIONS THEY OFFERED IF I ACCEPT EITHER WILL END UP COSTING ME MORE MONEY AND PUTTING MORE CASH IN THEIR POCKET. I HAVE SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE BEING TRANSFERRED FROM ONE DEPARTMENT TO ANOTHER 6 TIMES YESTERDAY WITHOUT SATISFACTION TO MY SITUATION AND YES I FIRST WENT TO DOWNTOWN ACURA IN CHICAGO TO DISCUSS MY OPTIONS. THE BEST DEAL THAT THEY COULD GIVE ME WAS TO TRADE IN MY 2014 ACURA TL AWD WHICH I AM PAYING $539.99 A MONTH & LEASE A 2016 ACURA FWD FOR 527.43 I DO NOT FEEL THIS IS A FAIR APPLES TO APPLES DEAL. I AM CURRENTLY LEASING AN AWD I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE AN FWD.TO THEY WANT $569.57 A MO. FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS FOR AN AWD. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TAXES, TRANSFER OF TITLE FEES ECT. ACURA IS GOING TO MAKE MONEY IN THIS SITUATION LEASING ME A MORE EXPENSIVE VEHICLE AND I AM GOING TO LOOSE MONEY. SO WHO WOULD BE MAKING OUT ON THIS DEAL? ACURA OF COURSE. NOT ONLY ON THE INCREASED LEASE AMOUNT BUT WHEN THE PART IS AVAILABLE FOR THE 2014 ACURA THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SELL IT FOR A PRETTY PENNY SEEING AS HOW IT WILL BE AROUND 2 1/2 YEARS OLD WITH ONLY 21,000 MILES ON IT. TO BE HONEST I DON'T EVEN LIKE THE LOOKS OF THE NEW ACURA 2016. THE CHANGES THAT WERE MADE ARE NOT APPEALING TO ME. OPTION 2 IS TO GIVE THEM THE ACURA 2014 TO SIT ON THEIR LOT WHILE THEY RENT ME A TOYOTA COROLLA WHILE ALL THE WHILE I AM STILL PAYING $539.99 A MONTH FOR AN ACURA THAT I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE. I TRIED TRADING IT IN ON A NISSAN MARANO ONLY PROBLEM THEY WOULD LOSE MONEY TRYING TO GET ME A REASONABLE LEASE PAYMENT AFTER HAVING TO PAY OFF MY LEASE AT $5390.00. AS YOU CAN SEE I AM STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE. THIS ENTIRE SITUATION EXCUSE MY SLANG. SUCKS! I HOPE THERE WILL BE A CLASS ACTION SUIT STARTED AGAINST HONDA/ACURA.

- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I OWNED AN ACURA TL 2014 SINCE NEW. I TOOK WELL CARE OF IT BUT THERE ARE MANY BIG CRACKS ON THE DASHBOARD. I FOUND MANY OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. IT IS A LUXURY CAR AND IT SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS KIND OF ISSUE.
VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-09-09
- VIN: 19UUA9F54EA
- Components: VISIBILITY
- Summary: AFTER FINISHING WORK, I OPENED THE CAR DOOR, TURNED THE IGNITION ON AND THEN SHUT THE FRONT DOOR WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A LOUD BOOM. I TURNED AROUND TO SEE MY REAR WINDSHIELD SPONTANEOUSLY SHATTERED WITH GLASS EVERYWHERE INCLUDING MY 2 CAR SEATS. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS OCCURRED SPONTANEOUSLY WITHOUT TRAUMA OR CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE AND IF THIS OCCURRED WHILE IN MOTION OR IF MY GRANDCHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR, THEY COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED. THIS CAR IS NEWLY PURCHASED APPROXIMATELY 3-4 WEEKS AGO AND SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION IT WAS ONE OF THE SAFEST CARS. NOW TO FIND THAT THIS IS NOT THE CASE, I AM ASKING FOR A NEW ACURA TL OR ELSE I AM CONSIDERING TRADING IT IN FOR ANOTHER NEW CAR. I CANNOT TAKE ANY CHANCES SINCE I CARE FOR MY GRANDCHILDREN AND NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE SAFE. ANOTHER CONCERN, IS THAT EVEN IF THEY FIX THE DAMAGE, THE WINDSHIELD WILL BE WEAKER THAN FACTORY INSTALLED AND MAY OCCUR AGAIN. THAT CANNOT HAPPEN. I AM EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH THIS ACURA TL AND WILL SETTLE FOR NOTHING LESS THAN A NEW CAR OR I WILL BE FORCED TO TRADE IT IN. *TR
VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-03-31
- VIN: 19UUA9F59EA
- Components: VISIBILITY
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING MY NEW CAR ACURA TL SH AWD (6 DAYS OLD) ON THE FREEWAY TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON A SUNNY DAY OUT IN THE OPEN WITH NO CARS IN FRONT OR ALONG SIDE ME, AND I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUN SHOT. I REALIZED THAT MY SUNROOF HAD EXPLODED. I HAD THE SUN SHADE OPEN AND A FEW PIECES OF GLASS WERE ON ME AND THE PASSENGER SEAT. THERE WERE ALSO A FEW PIECES IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, ON ME AND IN THE BACK SEAT, BUT MOST OF THE GLASS WAS BLOWN UPWARD AND OUT OF THE CAR. THERE WERE NICKS IN THE PAINT, IN TWO LINES ON THE ROOF AND ON THE TRUNK. SOME OF THE PIECES INSIDE THE CAR WERE VERY SMALL, BUT SOME WERE 3" TO 4" IN LENGTH. ACURA SAYS IT MUST HAVE BEEN A ROCK AND WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. SOME OF THE REMAINING GLASS IN THE SUNROOF (APPROXIMATELY 15%) WAS POINTED IN AN UPWARD DIRECTION. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST A ROCK HIT IT. THIS IS MY FIFTH ACURA AND PROBABLY MY LAST. *TR
2014 Acura Tl recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2014 Acura Tl.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013 Acura ILX, 2015 RDX, 2005-2010 and 2012 RL, 2009-2014 TL, 2010 and 2012 ZDX, 2007-2011 CR-V, 2011-2013 and 2015 CR-Z, 2009-2013 Fit, 2013 Fit EV, 2010-2011 and 2013 Insight and 2007-2014 Ridgeline vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with driver frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are S5B and W59.

The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.
- Consequence: An explosion of an inflator within the driver frontal air bag module may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver, front seat passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 2017. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are JY0, JY1, and JY2.

I love the car! However, I have had some trouble with the navigation system. It can be difficult to use and is often inaccurate and misleading. As a result, I have had to rely on my cellphone for navigation.
-
Great balanced car! Luxury, sporty, functional, fun.

This car is always listed as one of the top used cars to buy. It is trouble-free, comfortable, and although it doesn't have great gas mileage, it is a full-sized auto. After coming out of a Toyota Prius, it took some adjustment, but Acura made this model a true road warrior. I replaced the very noisy Michelin tires with Yokahama's, which made it much quieter and improved the road handling. The leather is good, and the sound system is top drawer. Although the trunk could have been bigger, overall I have been very happy with my purchase. I have owned it for over 2 years now, and it has only 57K on the odometer.

I've had mine for a year and just got my first oil change. This car is fantastic! It's like a super Accord with some added class.
-
This is an excellent and powerful 305 hp sports luxury sedan. If you replace the stock exhaust with hi flow cats and a more aggressive tune, you can get even more performance out of it. To keep it running smoothly, make sure to change the oil and ATF and filter every 15 to 30k miles. The AWD is especially helpful on ice and snow packed roads. It's important to replace the timing belt, water pump, and serpentine belt every 100k miles. Be sure to use Asin OEM or other known quality parts, as cheap made in China parts can cause problems.

I was disappointed to find that my Acura's dashboard developed several large cracks after just a few days parked in my work parking lot this summer in North Carolina. Despite always garaging the car when not in use, the dealership claimed that it was due to maintenance. In my experience, I have never had a dashboard crack on any of my other cars ranging from 1974 to 2006. Additionally, the TL has more rattles than your average newborn child and the cover over my cup-holder broke after just a few weeks. While I appreciate some aspects of the car, I do wish I had considered other options such as Lexus, BMW or Mercedes.

I purchased a brand new Acura AWD Sport package 2012 TL and had an exceptional purchasing experience. However, during my two-hour drive home, I noticed that the front end shimmied and pulled to the left, making it unsafe to drive. I immediately took it to a local Acura dealer, who balanced the tires for $50. Despite this, the issue persisted, and I returned to the original dealer to have the left drifting on interstate highways fixed. They checked and said everything was in spec, but the problem persisted during my two-hour drive back. I even took videos to show them the issue, but they only recommended different tires for over $900, which did not solve the problem. Despite requesting to escalate the issue with Acura, I received no response. As the issue posed a serious safety risk, I elected to trade in my 2012 AWD TL before any serious injury occurred.

I have replaced the transmission twice in less than 100 K miles. However, I am confident that my driving is not the cause, as I have never experienced this issue with my previous non-Acura cars.

I've owned this car for about seven months now, and I bought it used for around twenty thousand dollars with twenty-eight thousand miles on it. Currently, I own this vehicle along with a rear-wheel-drive G37 coupe from Infiniti. The Acura has been very good to me. Let's begin with the outward appearance. The car is definitely different from most on the road today, and I believe the later models of the TL are the best-looking of the newer body style. To me, the car is still much more attractive than the newer TLX sedans. The performance of the car is very good, considering the sheer size of the vehicle. It goes around corners like it's on rails, and the ride is not as harsh as one would imagine with stock 19-inch wheels. The TL definitely rides smoother than the G37, but the steering upon takeoff can get a little wild when sending 280 HP to the front wheels. The torque steer is something I would be wary of if purchasing again. I would have preferred to get an AWD model, but they have problems burning oil in their 3.7L engines. The engine noise is very minimal unless you are really giving it some gas, so it keeps with the luxury feel. The brakes on this car are very good and seem to stop this tank well. The biggest miss for this car is the lack of features compared to other competitors. I actually was someone who specifically looked for a stripped-down luxury car to keep future repair costs low. I believe that the more tech in a car, the quicker it will become outdated, so this TL is actually all you need. With XM radio and Bluetooth, I do not feel like there are a lack of options. The stereo speakers are terrible in any Acura and will in no way compare to the Bose audio in the Infiniti. So far, the only issues I have had were a driver's side window that is extremely slow to roll up, and they attributed this to a lack of lubricant. I also experience hard transmission shifts in cold weather, but this is solved by letting the car warm up for a few minutes.Overall, I would definitely consider buying another TL, although I might choose it over an Infiniti G37.
Olin Conroy 2024-05-03
The TL has not been a great car for me. I have experienced a lot of bumps and noise during my rides. Even tiny bumps on the road can be felt and there are rattles from the center console when going over bumps. The suspensions also make thumping and popping sounds when going over bumps. Additionally, the engine runs rough after just 10k miles. I regret my decision to purchase this car and wish I had done more research before buying it. However, I understand that everyone's experience may differ and this is just my personal experience. Thank you for considering my feedback.
