- Summary: No warning or engine light appeared; the gas pedal did not function as intended and accelerated while trying to parallel park when I put the shift knob in reverse the car immediately accelerated on its own to full force and I nearly Crashed into a bus stop filled with people losing control of the car I immediately managed to stop the car by pressing on the brake pedal which the car still had slight force but then I put the car in park and only at that time did it completely stop. The gas pedal and shift linkage and accelerator linkage have some dangerous unprovoked issues. This car has always had a high idle problem as warned to me by the first owners, as soon as you put the car into drive it would immediately go. I have researched recalls for years on this and have also discovered many reports of people losing control in this manner coincidentally going unaddressed. Until this occurred, I became very very apprehensive to even drive this car as I could have been held responsible for this damn malfunction costing many lives and injuries unknowingly and unprovoked. The car only has 60k miles and so far the entire dash board has cracked from sunlight falling completely to pieces that would crumble as I would drive causing distraction. The power steering belt prematurely needed replacing due to some sort of issue with the pulleys, not so long after that the alternator belt snapped needing the alternator and pulleys to be replaced again. The car during those repairs had just reached 50k miles, two batteries and the car still has electrical problems, power steering issues. This car was never involved in any major accident that would explain this other than a manufacture defect costing hundreds of dollars but there’s no cost to the lives of myself but others that you can’t put a price tag on. It’s truly a crime and absolute obvious indication of negligence that none of these reports have called for any recalls on this vehicle!

This car was bought as a simple commuting vehicle. However, I soon discovered how much fun it is to drive! The 5-speed transmission and DOHC engine were more than sufficient. And now, with a polished and ported head, racing cams, headers, bigger throttle body, and exhaust, it makes for a truly exciting driving experience. Plus, a body kit is being added so the looks match the performance.

When I was looking for a small car to transport my newborn child and keep the mess out of my show car, I considered all the small compacts available. After test driving them all, I decided to try out a Neon. I was pleasantly surprised to find that once I got in the car, I forgot I was in a 'Neon' and it felt more like a high-end sedan. While the engine power is just okay, with a few bolt-ons, the car can easily keep up with everyday Hondas. The handling is comparable to my old Mustang, and the looks of this car are definitely Mopar. I love the attention I get when passing people on the highway or when I'm in a parking lot and have people ask, 'Is that a Neon?!'

It's great to hear that your car has been running smoothly for almost four years now! Other than gas and oil, you've only had to replace a set of tires, spark plugs, and a battery. With just over 59,000 miles, it still runs like new. It's possible that dollar for dollar, this may be the best car sold in the U.S. in 2004.

It's a good car! It handles very well and the fuel economy is awesome. You won't have to spend a lot of money on fuel. The interior design is fun, sleek, and roomy, making it very comfortable. Overall, it's a great car and it's priced very well.

I see that you've already read this page before, but still decided to buy the car. Unfortunately, it seems like you've had some trouble with it so far. The head gasket had to be replaced once, the air conditioning needed to be recharged and will need to be replaced this summer, and now you've found out about a brake recall on these cars. It sounds like quite a hassle and has cost you a fair amount of money for a car that is just okay.

Despite the car only having 5000 miles, the brakes are making noise. Despite having taken the car back three times for this issue, the area representative from Chrysler has stated that this is normal. However, it is important to note that noise from the brakes is not an available option.

I bought the Neon for my girlfriend, but I've found it to be quite fun to drive! Despite a few little noises and the driver's door opening sensor not working (even after having Dodge fix it), this little car is a brisk accelerator. I've even started modifying it, beginning with a cold air intake and moving on to the exhaust (since the manifold and muffler are shot). I bought the car with 62,000 miles on it.

During the first two years, I had to visit the shop about a dozen times for repairs that shouldn't have been necessary for a new car. Unfortunately, it vibrates too much, the engine surges, and the gearshift doesn't disengage sometimes when the brake is pressed. Additionally, the auto sunroof broke and the engine mounts had to be replaced. I understand your frustration, but please know that I am here to help. I've been driving this car for around 2 years now, and it's been great! Although the brakes can be a bit noisy and the parking brake needs re-adjusting from time to time, I haven't had any major problems with it. It's a reliable and fun car to drive, even if you're not a 'car' person. The only thing I wish it had was ABS, but that's okay. It can be a bit slippery on wet roads, but overall it's been a great experience.
