- Summary: No warning or engine light appeared; the gas pedal did not function as intended and accelerated while trying to parallel park when I put the shift knob in reverse the car immediately accelerated on its own to full force and I nearly Crashed into a bus stop filled with people losing control of the car I immediately managed to stop the car by pressing on the brake pedal which the car still had slight force but then I put the car in park and only at that time did it completely stop. The gas pedal and shift linkage and accelerator linkage have some dangerous unprovoked issues. This car has always had a high idle problem as warned to me by the first owners, as soon as you put the car into drive it would immediately go. I have researched recalls for years on this and have also discovered many reports of people losing control in this manner coincidentally going unaddressed. Until this occurred, I became very very apprehensive to even drive this car as I could have been held responsible for this damn malfunction costing many lives and injuries unknowingly and unprovoked. The car only has 60k miles and so far the entire dash board has cracked from sunlight falling completely to pieces that would crumble as I would drive causing distraction. The power steering belt prematurely needed replacing due to some sort of issue with the pulleys, not so long after that the alternator belt snapped needing the alternator and pulleys to be replaced again. The car during those repairs had just reached 50k miles, two batteries and the car still has electrical problems, power steering issues. This car was never involved in any major accident that would explain this other than a manufacture defect costing hundreds of dollars but there’s no cost to the lives of myself but others that you can’t put a price tag on. It’s truly a crime and absolute obvious indication of negligence that none of these reports have called for any recalls on this vehicle!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. My wife actually bought it about 6 years ago with around 60,000 miles on it, and now it has 144,000 miles and is still going strong! Overall, it's been a very reliable car, with only a couple of minor issues like a bad oil pressure sensor and a tensioner pulley. But other than that, it's been great!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading about your Neon. It sounds like you've taken great care of it over the years! From the K&N air filter to the Pirelli tires, you've really gone above and beyond to keep it in top shape. It's great to hear that it handles so well and gets such good gas mileage. The only downside seems to be the seating, but that's a small price to pay for such a wonderful car. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my '04 SE base. I bought it as a leftover in 2005 for $11,200, and even though I had good credit, the dealer charged me 2 extra points at the very end of the deal. It was frustrating, but I needed a car since I had already sold my old one. Despite this, I have to say that I have been pleasantly surprised with how well the car has held up over the years. It now has 209K miles on it and has only broken down once. The repair was $125 total, including $65 for towing. I have kept up with all the maintenance, and I would take the car on a 5,000 mile round trip tomorrow if I needed to. As a tall person myself (I'm 6 foot 4), I find the car comfortable to drive and sit in for long drives. I love the manual transmission, and I think it's perfect for spirited driving. Although I live in the south, I have driven in deep snow in NH, and good quality tires help. The only recommendation I can make is to change the coolant every 2 years vs. 5. The A/C works great, although summer mpg's are about 25 and winter is 30 or 32. Book value now is about $1000, but I couldn't buy one this well maintained for the price. I will say if mine gets totaled for any reason, I would probably buy another one. New car prices are ridiculous, and I don't ever want to finance a car again. I will keep it until the wheels fall off. Even if the motor blows, I might just buy another motor. I still see a few 1st generation Neon's driving around; how many miles are on them? Hey there! I've been driving my 1998 Dodge Neon for five months now and it's been great! I had a bit of a scare when I got into a wreck and went sideways into a twelve-foot ditch, but thankfully I came out completely fine. The car had a few dents and scratches, but I got it fixed and now it's as fun to drive as ever. Even though it's an automatic, it still has great acceleration and a big engine sound. It's pretty fast for a 4-cylinder!

Other than the hassles with the initial purchase from a deceitful dealership, I'm glad to hear that the car itself has been truly surprising! This car seems to be lacking serious horsepower, or at least mine is. I have the worst gas mileage in the history of 4 cylinders (5spd to boot), approximately 16 mpg. Additionally, it has a major problem with the window sealing, causing a major leakage. Anytime it rains, it leaks and while driving, I hear a lot of air leaking through. But hey, what can I say? It's a used car!

I just wanted to start off by saying that this car has been great since I've had it. I've owned it for almost 2 years now, and it's a 1999 model with only 65,000 miles on it. The only issue I've had was a leak in the brake line, which was an easy and inexpensive fix. The car has great MPG and trunk space, making it a great choice for an elderly woman or a new driver. The only downside is its size - it's quite small and uncomfortable to drive, especially for someone who is not petite. Personally, I'm in the market for a new car because of this reason. However, I would still recommend this car to anyone who is looking for a reliable and affordable option, as long as they don't mind the small size. I hope this helps!

I noticed many positive reviews before purchasing this car, but unfortunately, I have experienced some issues. The turbo leaks are a common problem, and I have also had trouble with the transmission. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving the car. However, I am concerned about its durability and the transmission's performance, especially in colder weather. Perhaps I was just unlucky.

I purchased the car back in 2007 when it had 82,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I have had frequent problems with it, including issues with the brakes and transmission. The engine light has also been on and off, and now it makes a loud noise when the A/C is on. As a first-time car owner, I am not sure what to make of it, but it seems like the previous owner may have driven it quite hard. On several occasions, the electric has randomly gone out for a significant amount of time before coming back on, which can be frustrating. Despite these issues, I do love the car's interior and exterior design. However, the mechanics could use some improvement, and based on my previous experiences, I probably would not purchase a Neon again.

I purchased this car back in 2007 for almost 11 grand, which I now realize was not the best decision. At the time of purchase, it had 20k miles on it, and I ended up trading it in at 56k just this past May of 2010. Unfortunately, during the time I owned it, I didn't always feel safe while driving it. There were times when I would pull out into the road and it would stop me in the middle of traffic. I also had issues with fuses and my gauges not working properly. I had to replace 2 02 sensors and a battery. Additionally, I lived only 12 miles away from work, but it felt like I was constantly fueling up. In the winter, when I started it up, it would start jumping and the lights would flicker, and it would shut off on me frequently. It even left me stranded on several occasions. However, I recently traded it in, and it was the best decision I've ever made!
