Dodge Neon problems

The Neon is a compact car that was built from in January 1994 until 2005 by the American Chrysler Corporation over two generations. It has a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and came in two-door and four-door sedan body styles. In the United States it was sold as either a Dodge or a Plymouth, while in Europe, Mexico, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Egypt, Australia, South Africa, and South America it was branded as a Chrysler, the Neon was offered in multiple versions and configurations over its production life, which lasted from the 1995 model year until 2005. The Neon nameplate was subsequently resurrected in 2016 for the Dodge Neon, a rebadged variant of Fiat Tipo sedan for the Mexican market.
1991 concept car
The Neon nameplate first appeared as a concept car in 1991 under the Dodge brand. Although radically styled and clearly not production-ready featuring sliding suicide doors, the Neon concept resembled the future production vehicle.
The Neon concept was designed by Chrysler designers who had joined the company from Chrysler's buyout of American Motors Corporation (AMC) in 1987.

- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-20
- Date Complaint: 2022-08-29
- VIN: 1B3ES56C85D
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: No warning or engine light appeared; the gas pedal did not function as intended and accelerated while trying to parallel park when I put the shift knob in reverse the car immediately accelerated on its own to full force and I nearly Crashed into a bus stop filled with people losing control of the car I immediately managed to stop the car by pressing on the brake pedal which the car still had slight force but then I put the car in park and only at that time did it completely stop. The gas pedal and shift linkage and accelerator linkage have some dangerous unprovoked issues. This car has always had a high idle problem as warned to me by the first owners, as soon as you put the car into drive it would immediately go. I have researched recalls for years on this and have also discovered many reports of people losing control in this manner coincidentally going unaddressed. Until this occurred, I became very very apprehensive to even drive this car as I could have been held responsible for this damn malfunction costing many lives and injuries unknowingly and unprovoked. The car only has 60k miles and so far the entire dash board has cracked from sunlight falling completely to pieces that would crumble as I would drive causing distraction. The power steering belt prematurely needed replacing due to some sort of issue with the pulleys, not so long after that the alternator belt snapped needing the alternator and pulleys to be replaced again. The car during those repairs had just reached 50k miles, two batteries and the car still has electrical problems, power steering issues. This car was never involved in any major accident that would explain this other than a manufacture defect costing hundreds of dollars but there’s no cost to the lives of myself but others that you can’t put a price tag on. It’s truly a crime and absolute obvious indication of negligence that none of these reports have called for any recalls on this vehicle!

Vehicle year: 2005
As a junior in high school in 2005, I purchased a brand new car, one of the last two SXT's available on the lot. The orange one with a spoiler caught my eye, and I was able to purchase it for around 13K during the sale. From the moment I drove it, I fell in love with it. This car has proven to be extremely reliable, and I have always felt safe while driving it. Despite being a compact car, it is surprisingly roomy. I have taken great care to keep both the interior and exterior in immaculate condition, even as it has aged. While the car has had some issues, such as the need to replace the Camshaft sensor twice (a $25 part), and the fact that it can be tough on tires and brakes, I have always been prepared to address these issues. At 75K, I had to replace all four motor mounts, but even with these repairs, the car has continued to perform well. Currently, it has 81K miles on it, and I am confident that it will continue to serve me well for years to come.

Bought the 5speed manual version new in fall of 1997 for my 50-mile commute. It has never quit on me and has only required normal maintenance. The dealer called me in to replace the head gasket early on. Now, with 233,000 miles, it just keeps going. I check my gas mileage every fill-up, and it has averaged an impressive 35mpg. This car is undoubtedly one of the best automotive values in history!

I bought my Neon in April 2000 and have put 35K miles on it. So far, I haven't had any problems. The car handles beautifully on the road, with plenty of grip and stability on corners. It's pretty powerful for its size (5-speed manual) and shifting is smooth. Braking is also excellent. I was involved in an accident a year ago and the car handled it without any issues. Overall, I'm extremely happy with my Neon. It's simply a great car!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it brand new back in 2004 from a dealership in Gurnee, Illinois and got a great deal on it. Since then, I've taken good care of it with regular maintenance and it's been super reliable. I've already put 145,000 miles on it and just finished paying it off last year. I mainly use it for my daily commute, which is about 65 miles each way. For longer trips, I have a newer family car, a Subaru Tribeca. I plan on driving my Neon until it can't go any further! Interestingly, I was told that the timing belt didn't need to be replaced at 100,000 miles, which was a nice surprise. The only major repair I've had to do was the clutch at 90,000 miles, which cost me around $800. Overall, I'm really happy with my car and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and affordable option.

Vehicle year: 2002
I absolutely adore this car! I purchased it from a dealer in Suffolk (not my favorite place), but I fell in love with its handling and the way it drives (it's like driving a truck!). I have an automatic and have kept it in storage for many years due to a flooding incident in Ghent back in 2003. However, I have always made sure to keep the oil changed and the car in good shape. As long as I kept up with the oil changes, it has been a very low maintenance vehicle. I did have some issues with backfiring, but that was due to the workmanship of the repairs done after the flood damage. Overall, I absolutely love the sunroof, the reliability, the handling, and the sound system. This car was even named Car of the Year for Dodge back in 2002 and came with a Bose system! Unfortunately, I have to sell my car, but I truly enjoyed owning it and I hope that someone else will enjoy it just as much as I did!

Vehicle year: 2005
I recently traded my 99 model for an 05, mainly for the upgrades. Unfortunately, at 19000 miles, the temperature gauge stopped working, which was a part of the $515 instrument cluster. However, I was fortunate enough to have the Chrysler max care extended warranty, which only cost me $100 to fix. As these cars were the cheapest Chrysler made, I highly recommend getting an extended warranty. In my opinion, these cars were probably the only ones that Chrysler made any money on, and it was a shame when they stopped production. Although it may not have kept them out of bankruptcy proceedings, who knows, maybe they will bring it back as a Fiat!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Neon R/T. I bought it used with only 4,000 miles on it and have been driving it for 3 years now. I'm happy to report that it's still going strong with 70,000 miles on it! I did have to get the head gasket replaced under warranty at 35,000 miles, but other than that, everything still works as new. I'm really impressed with the reliability of the engine and transmission. Despite putting them through a lot, they're still running as strong as ever.

Hi there! I'm excited to share my experience with this car. I was lucky enough to buy it from the original owner at a great discount, even though I knew the head gasket would eventually need repair. It was in great shape and so much fun to drive! In fact, I drove it over 1000 miles on a trip to Maine in the first month alone. After about 4 months, my mechanic took care of the head gasket and also replaced the timing belt, major head bolts, and other necessary parts. Since then, it's been running smoothly and only uses about a quart of oil per 1500 miles (which is a huge improvement from before).

Decent car. The automatic transmission makes the performance poor, but overall the comfort is fine. In brief, it's a very good car if you're just looking for an engine, four wheels, five seats, and a roomy trunk. I would have preferred a manual transmission, but hopefully it's still a great car.

I absolutely love the 1996 Neon! After hearing great things from friends and experiencing the amazing driving myself, I knew I had to have one. Despite some minor flaws like the paint job, I have never had to take my car to a mechanic for service. Any issues that have come up have been minor and easy to fix. I frequently take this car on long trips and have never had any problems. The only issue I had was with a back-up light, which I thought would be expensive to fix, but it turned out to be a simple switch replacement. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my Neon!
