- Summary: No warning or engine light appeared; the gas pedal did not function as intended and accelerated while trying to parallel park when I put the shift knob in reverse the car immediately accelerated on its own to full force and I nearly Crashed into a bus stop filled with people losing control of the car I immediately managed to stop the car by pressing on the brake pedal which the car still had slight force but then I put the car in park and only at that time did it completely stop. The gas pedal and shift linkage and accelerator linkage have some dangerous unprovoked issues. This car has always had a high idle problem as warned to me by the first owners, as soon as you put the car into drive it would immediately go. I have researched recalls for years on this and have also discovered many reports of people losing control in this manner coincidentally going unaddressed. Until this occurred, I became very very apprehensive to even drive this car as I could have been held responsible for this damn malfunction costing many lives and injuries unknowingly and unprovoked. The car only has 60k miles and so far the entire dash board has cracked from sunlight falling completely to pieces that would crumble as I would drive causing distraction. The power steering belt prematurely needed replacing due to some sort of issue with the pulleys, not so long after that the alternator belt snapped needing the alternator and pulleys to be replaced again. The car during those repairs had just reached 50k miles, two batteries and the car still has electrical problems, power steering issues. This car was never involved in any major accident that would explain this other than a manufacture defect costing hundreds of dollars but there’s no cost to the lives of myself but others that you can’t put a price tag on. It’s truly a crime and absolute obvious indication of negligence that none of these reports have called for any recalls on this vehicle!

hi I own a 1998 4dr five speed manual dodge neon its absolutely amazing well one its not your typical neon I have your standard 2.0 DOHC 16v but the difference is its got stage 2 fuel injectors and stage two fuel pump and stage 3 racing clutch and I hollowed out the caddy and cut off the muffler and installed a 200$ exhaust tip on it and it truly sounds amazing no not a car fartin in a tin can sound its fast and furious sound quality but one thing I cant figure out is it gets 48 mpg highway and 39 in town but according to the specs its 41 and 32 my neon is so fast it suprizes me ive never lost to a race best example I can think of how fast she is I smoked a 08 mustang gt and 2014 jeep and and suv mercedezes and 2001 turbo charged five speed Toyota celica ive that's just some examples here is a good one this guy has a 90's model hatch batch civic or accord not sure but we raced one day and he didn't win or loose we stayed neck and neck and after the race we pulled over and talked and he asked how much cash I put under the hood he said he has dumped 3gs so far and I said none I bought the car with 112000 on body and 60,000 on motor for 1400 bucks I used to have all the paper work on all the performance parts installed but 12/08/14 my house burnt to the ground lost everything and even two of my dogs but long story short I can do 0-60 on a good 4.8 secs flat but average is 5.3 to 5.0 secs fastest ive had the car is 135 rev limiter is set at 7500 I cant do 90 in third gear with tac at 6500 rpms yup super high geared oh and one more thing I have a aftermarket racing spoiler on it 700$ bought off a friend for 100$

If you're looking for a car that will give you the confidence to merge onto the highway without worrying about getting rear-ended, this is the car for you. It's got plenty of power, although I haven't had a chance to take it to the 1/4 mile yet. If you want to lay down some rubber, just push the trac-off button. But even if you don't, the traction control is a big plus, especially when I hit the strip in a couple of weeks. If you're over six feet tall, you might find it a bit uncomfortable, but for everyone else, it's perfect. And the wheels are easy to clean - just spray on some Mean Green scrub, give them a quick sponge, and hose them off. Overall, this is a great compact car that's sporty, fast, and perfect for families with toddlers.

I purchased my car at an auction last year and have been driving it every day since. Fortunately, I have not encountered any major issues, except for two minor ones. Firstly, the 4 cyl has a valve cover gasket that is known to leak oil into the spark plugs. Although I have yet to replace the gasket, a mechanic informed me of the issue and I have been able to clean the plug and keep it running smoothly for a few more months. Secondly, the oil pan gasket is bad, which means I have to add oil regularly. Despite these issues, I am still happy with my purchase. It is worth noting that these cars are known for having bad heads that often blow, but I have not experienced this problem yet. Additionally, the engines are easy to find and work on, which is a plus.

I really love my car and the way it drives. It's quick, responsive, and fun. The engine is perfect for this car, as it provides great performance without consuming too much fuel. However, I have noticed that the brake system is quite noisy and flawed. Whenever I start the car and step on the brakes, I hear an awful grinding/squealing sound coming from the wheels. Although the noise reduces with every subsequent stop, it still bothers me. I have taken it to the dealership, but they told me that the brakes are fine and there is nothing they can do. I find this quite frustrating. What do you think could be the issue?

This vehicle was purchased to be towed behind our motorhome and used upon arrival at our destinations while travelling. It has been an absolute pleasure to own and has served us well for six years without a single problem. We recently changed out the OEM battery after six and one-half years, but no other repairs have been needed.

Hey there! As a fellow college student, I totally get the need for a car. I went to a few dealerships near me and found a neon for $2,000. At first, it ran smoothly, but unfortunately, it broke down after just 20 minutes. Since then, I've had some trouble with it and have only been able to use it for around 6 days out of the 3 months I've owned it. I've spent about $1500 on repairs, including taking it to the best mechanic in town, but it still broke down after just one day. If you're in the market for a reliable and affordable car, I highly recommend checking out the Civic!

I've owned my neon for 2.5 years and unfortunately, I've had to take it in for several repairs. I've experienced some electrical issues with the plugs and wiring. Additionally, the brakes tend to make noise, but I've been told that this is common for neons. The frameless doors can make the car feel a bit flimsy and create a loud noise when closing the door with the window open. Lastly, the front speakers don't work half the time and the back ones have stopped working altogether. While these cars may seem nice and economical, the frequent trips to the garage for repairs can be frustrating. Overall, I would not recommend this car.

If you happen to come across this car, it might be best to consider other options. Although the price may seem attractive, I personally had a negative experience with it. The resale value was not as high as I had hoped and it required frequent repairs. Just wanted to share my experience with you!

Since summer 2010, I have spent over $2000 on my car. Unfortunately, it has had a lot of issues, including blown gaskets, a faulty alternator, a problematic radiator, faulty brakes, and a water pump that required the whole engine to be taken out for replacement. Even though it was only a $20 part, it ended up costing me $500. I used to love driving my car, but now I am constantly worried about strange sounds and when it might break down again. If the transmission fails, I will have to scrap the car for parts. It has been a frustrating experience, and I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone.

I purchased my neon from a less expensive lot when it was 5 years old and had 75000 miles on it. I should have been more cautious when they informed me that there was no warranty, not even for 30 days. After 2 months, a hose ripped off the radiator and stripped it, which required a new radiator costing $400.00. Then, after a year, the transmission failed, which was a costly repair of $2,400. The mechanic informed me that neons have a transmission flaw for this year. Even after the repair, the transmission would act up every time the air conditioner was on, so I stopped using it. I am not confident that the car will last much longer and I would not recommend it to anyone, not even a kid. If you own a neon, it is advisable to dispose of it after it reaches 5 years old. These cars are considered disposable.
