Common 2013 Dodge Journey problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Dodge Journey 2013, several common problems have been reported:

  1. Brake Issues: Owners have reported premature brake and rotor wear, noisy brakes, and calipers that lock up. Proper brake function is crucial for safety, especially at high speeds. Premature brake wear can lead to increased stopping distances and compromised braking performance, posing a significant safety risk to drivers and passengers.
  2. Engine Problems: Complaints include the engine dying while driving, ticking sounds from the engine, and the check engine light constantly being on. Engine issues can be costly to repair and may result in unexpected breakdowns, leaving drivers stranded. A malfunctioning engine can compromise the vehicle's performance, fuel efficiency, and overall reliability.
  3. Interior Accessory Troubles: This category encompasses various issues with interior components like doors and windows. Problems with interior accessories can range from inconvenience to safety hazards. Malfunctioning interior features can affect the comfort, convenience, and overall usability of the vehicle, leading to potential costly repairs and decreased satisfaction for owners.

Addressing water leaks promptly is essential to prevent further damage and maintain the integrity of the vehicle's interior.
  5. Malfunctioning Remote Keyless Entry: Issues with the remote keyless entry system can result in difficulties locking or unlocking the vehicle, leading to inconvenience and potential security concerns. A malfunctioning keyless entry system can compromise the vehicle's security and may require repairs or replacement of key components.

Owners of the Dodge Journey 2013 experiencing these problems should consult with a qualified mechanic to diagnose and address these issues promptly. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can help mitigate these common problems and ensure the continued reliability and performance of the vehicle.

The active headrest sprung forward hitting me in the back of the head. Luckily I was not driving at that moment or it could have caused me to crash, being that it was night time and raining. I got home where I could get my flash light out and give it a good looking over and realized that it the clips on the inside of the active headrest broke. I tried to reset the headrest to dee if there was some other mechanism that would let it re-clip back in place and it just keeps springing forward. I have not taken it to get it looked at yet as I am writing you on the same night of the incident. I tool a picture of the headrest in it sprung forward state. I have also read alot of reviews on cargurus website about other dodge journey owners having the same issues. Over 20 complaints regarding this same issue. There were jo warning signs other than me noticing my head position felt strange before the headrest completely sprung forward.

These transmission units are exorbitantly expensive and fail time and again paired with these engines on vehicles such as CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY, 200, AVENGER, JOURNEY. This was a serious misstep and miscalculation by these companies, and they are costing their customers thousands upon thousands of dollars. Dodge and Chrysler (now Stellantis) should be held accountable, especially since they are now a conglomerate of the most consistently unreliable vehicles (Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, Ram, Fiat).

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-11-02
  • VIN: 3C4PDDBGXDT
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: In the past 3 years I have had my transmission go out on my vehicle 3 times. All 3 times I was driving when it happened and my car just stopped shifting or would not shift past 2nd gear. I have spoken to numerous mechanics about this issue, and every single one has told me that is a know issue with my specific type of dodge. It is an extreme safety issue to be getting on the freeway and have your transmission suddenly stop working. It is also ridiculous that consumers should have to come out of pocket 5K every 20,000 miles or so to fix or replace a defective transmission that dodge refuses to deal with. I contacted Dodge customer service to try and get my transmission fixed and was told that since they have not recalled it, they will not help me cover the cost. What I don't understand is why they have not issued a recall. If dodge service centers know about the issue, then dodge corporation should, and they should have dealt with this year's ago. I have documentation of the first 2 repairs, and an estimate for this latest one but can not include them from the device I am on.

This is available for inspection as I cannot put the broken headrest back into my vehicle. Fortunately, my son was not injured as far as we know. We will be having the local dealership look at the headrest tomorrow 11/5/22

Negative 2013 Dodge Journey car reviews

  1. Enos Conroy 2024-11-05

The 2013 Journey has been a challenging vehicle for me. However, I have learned a lot about how to maintain it properly. I have had to replace the tires and brakes a few times, but with regular maintenance, I have been able to keep it running smoothly. The display screen can be difficult to read in bright daylight, but I have found ways to adjust it to make it more readable. The car has a lot of storage space, which is a great feature. While there have been some issues, I have been able to manage them and keep the car in good condition.

  2. Samir Weimann 2024-09-11

    1. Always use FULL synthetic oil, no blend. My engine blew at 150,000 miles and my alternator failed at 182,000 miles. 2. I never changed the brakes, but I did rotate the tires. 3. The car is very safe - someone hit me and totaled the car, but I walked away unharmed. Overall, I would not purchase this car again.

  3. Alek Gulgowski 2024-09-08

After owning 7 Dodge Chrysler vehicles, I must say that this has been the most disappointing purchase. Unfortunately, we had to have the engine replaced at 100,000 miles and now, 30,000 miles later, we are once again experiencing engine problems. Although we love the look of our 2013 6 cylinder Dodge Journey, it has turned out to be a huge lemon. I would highly recommend going to a Toyota dealership instead. Best regards!

  4. Rhiannon Oberbrunner 2024-08-18

The battery draining when the car is off and failing to start is a common issue reported by many Chrysler owners. Despite numerous complaints, Chrysler has been unable to provide a solution. Additionally, customers have reported that when contacting the dealership, they are often met with unhelpful responses and false claims that the issue has not been previously reported. Despite multiple attempts to repair the issue at the dealership, it has yet to be resolved.

  5. Hayley Powlowski 2024-08-10

I wouldn't recommend this car, but let me explain why.

Positive 2013 Dodge Journey car reviews

  1. Brannon Yundt 2024-10-25

Congratulations on finding the best deal online after months of searching! You made a great choice by purchasing it through a Volkswagen dealership. Additionally, you received a gas card and a one-month car warranty, which is fantastic!

  2. Erich Howe 2024-09-21

I recently decided to downsize my vehicles and ended up selling my 2012 fully loaded Malibu and 2006 Honda Element AWD. I was looking for a car that combined the comfort of the Malibu with the space and AWD of the Honda. After considering the Edge and Journey, I found that the Journey offered more value for the price, especially with my supplier discount. The dealer even gave me a great deal on a new black version, which I wasn't initially a fan of until they painted the calipers red. The only issue I had was with the brake switch on a rear taillight, which would stay on or come on for no reason. Despite this, the car has performed well this winter and I have been very satisfied as a driver. Although, I have noticed that passengers are not as comfortable in the front passenger seat.

  3. Mackenzie Buckridge 2024-08-18

I've been on my journey for 5 years now and I couldn't be happier with my SUV! I've only had to take it to the Dodge dealer once, and that was just for recalls. Other than that, it's just been basic maintenance. I highly recommend doing a yearly preventative maintenance check to keep everything in top shape. Overall, I'm so grateful for this SUV - it's been perfect for everything from road trips to grocery shopping, and it's held up great with kids and dogs too!

  4. Arely White 2024-06-15

You won't find a better midsize, 7 passenger, AWD SUV at this price!

  5. Melvina Lind 2024-04-02

The car's seats are set very low, making it difficult to get in and out of. However, the gas mileage is okay.
