The Chevrolet Orlando is a three-row compact MPV manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand since 2011. The first-generation model was mainly developed and manufactured by GM Korea, while also assembled in four other countries. Its main markets were South Korea, Europe, Canada, Latin America, and several other Asian countries. It was not marketed in the United States, after GM announced in May 2010 that it would not do so.

The second-generation model launched in 2018 is solely built and sold in China by SAIC-GM joint venture, sharing the same platform with the Buick GL6. It also marked the end of Orlando production in South Korea.

First generation (J309; 2010)

Concept

The Orlando concept was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show and later at the 2009 North American International Auto Show. It was said to be a 5-door, 7-seat vehicle based on Chevrolet Cruze sedan. The concept model features a two-tier grille, headlamps that flow into the front fenders and muscular fender forms that wrap around the wheels, 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine rated 150 PS (110 kW; 148 hp) and 320 N⋅m (236 lb⋅ft).

In 2010, GM showed the GMC Granite small MPV concept, which is similar to the Orlando.

Common 2015 Chevrolet Orlando problems

The Chevrolet Orlando 2015 has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. One of the most frequently reported issues is with the fuel level indicator or sensor, which sometimes malfunctions, showing incorrect readings or even resetting to zero despite the presence of gasoline in the tank

Another common problem is with the clutch pedal, which can fail due to issues with the clutch hydraulic drive, leading to problems with the clutch return spring

. The clutch usually lasts over 150,000 kilometers, but this issue can occur earlier.

The automatic transmission in the Chevrolet Orlando 2015 has also been known to have issues, with some owners reporting jerks during shifts, particularly during the first three gears and after stopping

. While dealers have shrugged off this issue, some service centers have offered firmware updates to smooth out the transmission's operation.

After 70,000 to 120,000 kilometers, the semi-axle oil seals can become scorched, leading to a noisy operation of the suspension

. Extraneous sounds from the rear can be caused by the rattling of the plastic boot of the shock absorber, and the calipers can sometimes make their contribution, particularly the front ones

Shock absorbers usually last over 100,000 kilometers, but the silent blocks of the front levers and the rear beam can go around the same amount of time

. After 80,000 to 120,000 kilometers, the parking brake cables can sometimes turn sour

The paintwork of the Chevrolet Orlando body is not very durable, with chips soon appearing, and chrome not resisting external influences for long

. The radiator lining and the bar on the tailgate can swell, and the button to open the fifth door can fail

. There can also be fogging of the front and rear optics with frequent folding and unfolding of the side mirrors, which can become freely oriented due to deformation of the soft lock washer and the latch popping out

Drips from the ceiling light in winter are not uncommon, due to the formation of condensate in the space between the roof and the upholstery of the ceiling

. This issue is common to many modern cars and is treated by gluing the roof with heat and noise insulating material.

The interior plastic of the Chevrolet Orlando can scratch easily and start to creak after a while, and knocking in the rear of the cabin may occur due to the loosening of the spare wheel

. Some Orlando owners have noted a glitch of the air conditioning system, with the air recirculation damper stuck in the closed position, leading to climate freezes

The timing drive belt needs to be changed after 150,000 kilometers or 10 years, and the oil pressure sensor can leak, giving a signal about a pressure drop in the lubrication system

. A couple of cases of spontaneous combustion in the engine compartment have been recorded, presumably due to the etching sensor becoming the culprit of the incident

After 100 to 150,000 kilometers, the heat exchanger gaskets can fail, leading to oil entering the cooling system or being squeezed out

. The owners have also had to change the failed ignition module, and the engine speed can behave unusually during warm-up, floating and not falling evenly

After 100 to 150,000 kilometers, plastic heater dampers can break, requiring repair, and the front panel must be completely removed to get to the heater

. The heated driver's seat can also fail after a hundred thousand kilometers, and the wiper leash on the driver's side can stop moving due to a broken hinge joint

Is Chevrolet Orlando a good car?

a very good solid dependable car for the larger family. a bit heavier than some on fuel but averaging 42+ mpg . took a bit of getting used to as it is quite large and feels bigger than it is when on narrow roads . a good ride although a bit wallowy when cornering on a full load with a top box .

Is Chevrolet Orlando fuel efficient?

Fuel economy

It's okay but rivals do perform better as far as fuel consumption is concerned. Predictably the 2.0-litre diesels are the most frugal, returning an official average of 47.1mpg while that is cut to 40.1mpg with the auto box.

What happened to Chevrolet Orlando?

Worldwide production of the first generation Orlando ended in 2018, following its discontinuation by GM Uzbekistan and the closure of the Gunsan plant in South Korea which produced it.

What engine does the Chevrolet Orlando use?

2.4L DI VVT 4-cylinder engine delivers 174 hp and 171 lb. -ft. torque. Variable Valve Timing (VVT) enhances efficiency throughout the engine's powerband (standard).
