Common Saturn Ion 2007 problems
The 2007 Saturn Ion has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. The most frequently reported problem is power steering failure, which affects a significant number of Saturn Ion owners. This issue occurs when the power steering system suddenly stops working, making it difficult for drivers to turn the steering wheel. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty power steering pump or a leak in the power steering system.
Another common problem with the Saturn Ion is ignition module/coil failure, which can trigger the check engine light and cause misfires. This issue is often caused by a faulty ignition coil, which can lead to a variety of engine problems. In some cases, the ignition module/coil failure can be caused by a faulty crankshaft position sensor or a faulty camshaft position sensor.
The Saturn Ion is also known for having issues with the gas cap, which can trigger the check engine light. This problem occurs when the gas cap is not properly tightened or if the gas cap is damaged. In some cases, the gas cap may need to be replaced to resolve this issue.
In addition to these common problems, the Saturn Ion has also been reported to have issues with the key becoming stuck in the ignition. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty ignition switch or a worn-out key. In some cases, the key may need to be replaced or the ignition switch may need to be repaired to resolve this issue.
The 2007 Saturn Ion has also been reported to have issues with the power steering system, with drivers reporting that the power steering goes out despite a recall issued in 2014. There are also 212 electrical complaints pointing to ignition issues, with drivers reporting that the key may remain stuck in the slot after turning the vehicle off. Ignition problems have resulted in three recalls, the last in 2014, with complaints still rolling in as late as 2022. There are 78 fuel system complaints on file, with drivers reporting a strong gasoline odor in the cabin. The car was recalled in 2009 for a fuel leak, and again in 2012 for a broken fuel pump module, but complaints have persisted as late as October, 2022. The 2007 Ion has been recalled 7 times in total, which is on the higher end of the median for a sedan this old.
The 2007 Saturn Ion has also been reported to have issues with the transmission, with drivers reporting that the transmission slips or shifts roughly. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty transmission solenoid or a worn-out clutch. In some cases, the transmission may need to be replaced to resolve this issue.
Overall, the Saturn Ion has been reported to have a number of common problems, including power steering failure, ignition module/coil failure, gas cap issues, key stuck in ignition, and transmission problems. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors and may require professional repair to resolve.

Saturn Ion 2007 recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 7 recalls for different components of the Saturn Ion 2007.
- Manufacturer: UCI-FRAM Group
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
- Summary: UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original ignition switch. The weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the affected ignition switches to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and disabling the air bags.
- Consequence: If the ignition switch moves from the run position to accessory, the car would stall and the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants.
- Remedy: UCI-FRAM Group has notified its purchasers to quarantine and return all inventory. Any switches already installed in vehicles will be replaced by GM dealers as part of NHTSA recall 14V-047, free of charge. UCI-Fram's purchasers should contact UCI-FRAM Group at 1-800-890-2075. GM vehicle owners requiring additional information on that recall campaign should contact GM at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac) or 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn).
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.
- Consequence: If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and for vehicles that were built with the defective ignition cylinder and have not previously had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. For vehicles that were built with the redesigned ignition cylinder or had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac owners at 1-800-762-2737, and Saturn owners at 1-800-553-6000. General Motors' number for this recall is 14113 for the ignition lock cylinder and key replacement, and 14133 for only key replacements. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2006 Malibu Maxx, 2009-2010 HHR (non-turbo), 2010 Cobalt, 2008-2009 Saturn Aura and 2004-2007 Ion, and 2005-2009 Pontiac G6. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
- Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will perform one of four bulletins. Parts are not currently available. GM expects to send an interim notification around May 28, 2014. When parts are available, owners will be mailed a second letter to come in to have the applicable bulletin applied. This is a fantastic car! I am absolutely loving my first Saturn experience. The mileage is impressive and the center dashboard is a great feature. The car is also very responsive. Although I have had a minor issue with a leak, the dealership has been very helpful and provided me with a loaner. Overall, the car has been superb and I appreciate the fact that it accelerates quickly without shifting into a 'passing gear'.

I see that you have a 2007 ION 2 four door sedan. It's great to hear that you've been able to use it as your second vehicle. With 73,000 miles on it, it sounds like it's been a reliable car for you. One of the things I love about this car is how easy it is to park, and the plastic doors are a great feature to prevent dings from careless people. Additionally, the trunk space is really impressive. Thanks for sharing your experience with this car!

I have always driven a GMC Z-71, but living in Atlanta, GA and driving 25,000 miles a year, I had to retire my truck to the driveway and get a car that fits my driving budget. This car has been great! I still love my truck, but I do not want to spend $1000 a month. The ION is fun to drive and gets about 30 miles per gallon, whereas my truck gets 12. If I had to switch, this is the car for me. With 16,000 miles and no problems, I am very satisfied with this car.

I recently purchased an 07 ION sedan 2.2l automatic with alloy wheels and a spoiler, and I was really excited about it. I loved the car for the first 6 months, but then I started to notice some of the poor quality that went into it. Unfortunately, the seats are extremely cheap and the fabric in the driver's seat is already coming loose, even though I've only driven 22,000 miles. Additionally, the light grey fabric throughout the interior stains very easily, which becomes more apparent as you own the car for a year or more. At 18,000 miles, the driver window fasteners failed and the window was loose inside the frame. Lastly, the sunroof creaks when you go over a bump or change in road incline, like up a steep driveway. However, the engine is great.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it brand new in Toronto and have taken it on some amazing road trips, from Toronto all the way to California, up the coast to Oregon, and all the way to Phoenix! I've put 39,000km on it in just over a year. While I've had a few issues with the car, such as having to replace the entire electrical system and the accelerator and brake system, I still enjoy driving it. I did have some trouble with the starter after one year, and once it wouldn't start at all for quite a few hours. I also found out that AAA won't unlock this car if your keys are locked inside, as they told me that this model's electrical system is quite delicate. The fuel economy is below average and far below the EPA estimate, but I still find it to be a reliable car overall. Thanks for listening!

I have had experience with Hondas and Toyotas in the past. Recently, I purchased a used Ion for my teenage daughter, but unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations. Despite having a clean CarFax and only 91,000 miles, the car required significant repairs such as ball joints, shocks/struts, and the transmission occasionally slips. The cost of repairs in the first year alone will be as much as I paid for the car, which is $3000. In hindsight, I should have invested in a good Honda or Toyota for $6000 instead. While I have had a negative experience with American cars, particularly GM, I will be more cautious in the future when making a purchase.

Hello there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with a used Saturn Ion. Unfortunately, I had a few issues with it, including four recalls during the short time I owned it. While I was disappointed, I'm still a big fan of Chevy/GM and I'm sure they'll make it right. My previous car, a GEO Metro, lasted an impressive 17 years, but unfortunately the Ion only lasted 6 years before the transmission gave out. Thanks for listening!

Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Saturn ION. I was really excited to buy an American car again, and the fuel efficiency and environmental impact of the ION really caught my eye. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with my car over the past year. I've had to spend a total of two weeks in a rental car due to some problems with my vehicle. For example, while driving on the highway, my vehicle started decelerating while I had my foot on the gas. It took a few tries to get that fixed. Currently, my passenger window won't roll up and my seatbelt light indicating that something is wrong with it goes on intermittently. The interior is a bit cheap, but the mileage is good overall. Thanks for listening!
