- Summary: While driving the car has issues with power steering when turning the wheel either direction the steering will lose power steering and jerk the opposite direction turning. I have almost been in numerous accidents now the worst going 75 on highway passing semi around a corner and it jerked and almost sent me right not the semi. This has happened numerous times as I was passing vehicles. Its not a steady no power steering it will do it out of the blue and anymore it's more times than not and again only when turning the wheel. It's scary. Our vin # isn't specified with the recall but has serious power steering issue. No warning lamps or anything like that. We have not had this vehicle inspected yet by a dealership. As far as the incident date it's not one specific date. It does this every day the car is driven.

- Summary: UCI-FRAM Group is recalling certain LS1328 ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1328, Duralast LS1328, Airtex 1S6097, and Carquest 53-27479, and LS1497 Ignition Switches sold as Wells LS1497, Duralast LS1497, Airtex 1S10961, and Carquest 53-27967, for use on various General Motors model and model year vehicles during repair and replacement of the original ignition switch. The weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the affected ignition switches to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and disabling the air bags.
- Consequence: If the ignition switch moves from the run position to accessory, the car would stall and the air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants.
- Remedy: UCI-FRAM Group has notified its purchasers to quarantine and return all inventory. Any switches already installed in vehicles will be replaced by GM dealers as part of NHTSA recall 14V-047, free of charge. UCI-Fram's purchasers should contact UCI-FRAM Group at 1-800-890-2075. GM vehicle owners requiring additional information on that recall campaign should contact GM at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac) or 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn).

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR, 2007-2010 Pontiac G5, 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, and 2007-2010 Saturn Sky vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "Off" position.
- Consequence: If the key can be removed from the ignition when the ignition is not in the "off" position, the vehicle could roll away: (a) for an automatic transmission, if the transmission is not in the "Park" position; or (b) for a manual transmission, if the parking brake is not engaged and the transmission is not in the "Reverse" position. This potential for rollaway increases the risk for a crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and for vehicles that were built with the defective ignition cylinder and have not previously had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will replace the ignition cylinder and cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. For vehicles that were built with the redesigned ignition cylinder or had the ignition cylinder replaced with the redesigned part, dealers will cut and, if necessary, re-learn two ignition/door keys for each vehicle. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac owners at 1-800-762-2737, and Saturn owners at 1-800-553-6000. General Motors' number for this recall is 14113 for the ignition lock cylinder and key replacement, and 14133 for only key replacements. Note: Until a vehicle has been remedied, owners and operators are advised that when exiting, to be sure that the vehicle is in "Park," or in the case of a manual transmission, that the vehicle is in the "Reverse" position and the parking brake is engaged.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, 2004-2006 Malibu Maxx, 2009-2010 HHR (non-turbo), 2010 Cobalt, 2008-2009 Saturn Aura and 2004-2007 Ion, and 2005-2009 Pontiac G6. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
- Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will perform one of four bulletins. Parts are not currently available. GM expects to send an interim notification around May 28, 2014. When parts are available, owners will be mailed a second letter to come in to have the applicable bulletin applied. Bulletin 14115 covers model year 2004-2007 Saturn Ion, 2009-2010 Chevrolet HHR and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts. Dealers will replace the EPS motor. Bulletin 14116 covers model year 2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, 2005-2006 Pontiac G6 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from March 1, 2008, through June 27, 2008. Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly. Bulletin 14117 covers model year 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from February 1, 2008, through February 28, 2008. Dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly and EPS motor controller unit. Bulletin 14118 covers model year 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura built from October 1, 2007, through January 31, 2008. Dealers will replace the EPS motor controller unit. The recall began on July 17, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, Saturn at 1-800-553-6000, and Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668. GM's number for this recall is N140115. Note: GM bulletin number 14119 will be implemented for model year 2006-2008 and early production of 2009 Chevrolet HHR (non-turbo) and model year 2003 Saturn ION to provide EPS Motor replacement for the life of the vehicle.

On February 25, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 748,024 model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR and Pontiac Solstice vehicles and 2003-2007 Saturn Ion vehicles and 2007 Saturn Sky vehicles. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. On March 27, 2014, GM notified the agency that the defective ignition switches may have been used as service replacement parts on other vehicles, and as a result GM will be recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, and Pontiac G5 and Solstice, and 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR vehicles. The part numbers for the service parts are 10392423 (a/k/a ACDelco D1461F), 10392737, 15857948, 15854953, 15896640, and 25846762. This expansion represents an additional 823,788 vehicles.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. An interim notification was issued to owners of 2007 and earlier models on March 10, 2014, informing them of the safety defect. Owners of 2008 and later vehicles will be mailed an interim letter on April 21, 2014. All affected owners will receive another letter once parts are available. The recall began on April 18, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737 or Saturn at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for the initial recall is 13454 and 14063 for the expansion. GMs recall number for the vehicles that may have received the replacement parts is 14092. Note: Until the recall repairs have been performed, it is very important that customers remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the vehicle key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Always wear your seatbelt.

Some of these vehicles have a condition in which the plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module may crack, which could cause a fuel leak.
- Consequence: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Notification to owners began on on November 21, 2012. Owners were instructed to not bring their vehicles in for repair until January 2013. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-521-7300.

I think the Ion is an excellent car, although it's not a luxury vehicle. It's a reliable, no-nonsense car that I've been very satisfied with. I've owned three Saturns, including this one, and they've all been great transportation. Based on cost per mile, I couldn't be happier. Unfortunately, the polymer exterior panels were discontinued in 2007, but that was one of the reasons I chose to buy a Saturn. They're tough, don't rust or corrode, and the paint finish still looks as good as new after five years. Of course, these cars aren't perfect, and I've had a few minor problems. However, none of them ever put the car out of service, and they were all repaired to my satisfaction under warranty.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my ION 3 Quad Coupe that I bought brand new in April of 2007. I have to say, it was a solid car with great build quality despite the relatively low price. Over the course of 4 years, I put over 131,000 miles on the car and only had two major problems: the throttle position sensor and the power steering motor failed. Additionally, I had to replace the original tires (Chinese Hancooks which were 3 years older than the ION) because they had dry-rotted to a dangerous level. Although I was devastated when my ION was totaled in a rollover accident (which was not the fault of the ION), I am grateful that it kept me alive. Looking back, I only regret that GM decided to try to make Saturn into an outlet for German Opels and thus killed the Saturn product line. Thanks for listening!

This is definitely the best car I've ever had in terms of quality. I've put 19,000 miles on it and haven't had any major repairs. All the work done on the car has been routine maintenance. My son-in-law has the same car without the fancy features and he's had a similar experience to mine.

Your Ion 3 seems to be holding up well with 120k miles on it! At around 100k, you experienced the infamous power steering glitch, but it seems to have resolved itself after a week and hasn't happened in the last 20k miles. Keeping up with regular maintenance and changing the oil every 3-5k miles is key to ensuring your car lasts a long time. It's worth noting that if you're a bigger person, getting in and out of the car may be a bit uncomfortable, but other than that, there's nothing to complain about. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2007 Level 2 that I purchased brand new back in November 2006. Overall, it's been a pretty good car, but I did run into some trouble a couple of years ago when it started leaking gas. Unfortunately, even though there was a recall on the fuel pump, Saturn refused to fix it. Then, just last year, I received a letter warning me that the power steering might go out on the car. And wouldn't you know it, not long after that, it did! Once again, Saturn refused to fix it. Despite these issues, I have to say that the car still gets great mileage and has been pretty dependable overall, even with 190k miles on it. Thanks for listening!

I purchased this car used in 2009 with around 32k miles on it. I was initially drawn to its stylish appearance and it drove wonderfully. However, after about a year, I began experiencing a series of issues. From wheel bearings to front bushings, and even a malfunctioning AC, I was constantly dealing with expensive repairs and check engine light problems. Despite my efforts to fix these issues, they persisted and I ended up spending more money on this car in just a few years than I had on all my previous cars combined. Although I was able to refresh the AC for a reasonable price, the check engine light still comes on and off randomly. I've had to replace the muffler twice, tie rods, steering column, fuel lines, and the shocks, struts, and springs. I may have even replaced more parts, but I can't recall at this point. Despite all of this, I'm still driving this car and it has been okay for the past couple of years since I replaced pretty much every suspension-related part. The check engine light still comes on and off, but other than that, the car has been fine. It currently has 118k miles on it and I plan to keep driving it until it dies.

My dad bought me this car back in 2007. It was brand new at the time, and I've definitely put it through its paces over the past 5 years. Despite that, I've been lucky enough to avoid any major issues with it, and have only had to do general maintenance to keep it running smoothly. The only real problem I've had is with the ignition, which can be a bit finicky at times. One time, the key even got stuck in the ignition, which was a real headache. I had to take it to a repair shop and let it run out of gas because I couldn't get the key out. But, all things considered, it only cost about $100 to fix and I haven't had any issues since. It may not be the most well-built car out there, but it was the perfect first car for me.

I'm so glad you found your Saturn Ion sedan! It sounds like you got a great deal at $6000 from a private party. As an engineer, I can see why you value your Ion so much. It's fun to drive and has a sporty feel for a compact sedan. Plus, it's made in Tennessee and has comfortable seats. With the 2.2 engine, you can expect decent fuel economy - I'm impressed that you averaged about 27-30 in mixed driving! The engine is also very reliable and easy to work on compared to imports. It's great that it only takes two bolts to remove certain parts. I understand that some people may not be fans of the styling, but the composite panels will definitely help it last on salty Wisconsin roads. You won't have to worry about it looking like Swiss cheese in 10 years! In fact, it's like a more durable Chevy Cobalt. I'm happy to hear that you haven't had any problems with your Ion. It sounds like a great car!
