Common 2015 Nissan Frontier problems
The Nissan Frontier, a popular midsize pickup truck, has been known to have several common problems across its 2015 model year. These issues have been reported by numerous owners and are worth considering if you're in the market for a used Frontier.
- EVAP Issues: The Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP) is responsible for capturing and storing fuel vapors from the fuel tank. In the Nissan Frontier, there have been reports of EVAP-related problems, such as the vehicle erratically spamming the dashboard warning message .
- Fuel Leaks: Some 2015 Nissan Frontier owners have reported fuel leaks, which can be caused by various factors, including faulty fuel lines, fuel injectors, or the fuel pressure regulator .
- Timing Issues: Timing problems in the Nissan Frontier can be caused by the timing chain and tensioner. The VQ40DE timing chain, in particular, has been known to face issues, so it's essential to be mindful of this component when considering a used Frontier .
- Transmission Slipping Out Of Gear Into Neutral: This issue affects many 2nd generation Frontier models, including the 2015 model year. The problem can be attributed to a misaligned shifter assembly or a small steel spring that becomes stuck inside the shifter, physically preventing it from engaging drive .
- Engine Stalling: Some owners have reported instances of the engine stalling, which can be caused by various factors, including electrical issues, sensor malfunctions, or fuel system problems .
- Car Going Into Limp Mode: Limp mode is a safety feature that reduces the vehicle's power and speed to prevent further damage when a severe issue is detected. In the Nissan Frontier, this can be caused by various problems, including transmission issues, engine problems, or electrical faults .
- Engine Fire: There have been reports of engine fires in the 2015 Nissan Frontier, which can be traced back to a wire harness used to install a circuit breaker that could cause a short circuit near the A-pillar .
- Wiring Harness Issues: Wiring harness problems can lead to various issues, including electrical faults, short circuits, and even engine fires. In the 2015 Nissan Frontier, a wire harness used to install a circuit breaker has been identified as a potential problem .
- Issues With The Rearview Camera: The rearview camera in the Nissan Frontier has been reported to have issues, which can affect visibility and safety when reversing .
- Ignition Switch Issues: Ignition switch problems can lead to various issues, including difficulty starting the vehicle or the car stalling while driving. In the 2015 Nissan Frontier, there have been reports of ignition switch-related problems .
- AEB Issues: Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB) systems are designed to help prevent or mitigate collisions. In the Nissan Frontier, there have been reports of AEB-related problems, which can affect the vehicle's safety features .
- Shifter Assembly Issues: The shifter assembly in the Nissan Frontier has been reported to refuse to shift in various ways, which can affect the vehicle's drivability and safety .
- The Car Rolling Away When In Park: This issue is a serious safety concern, as it can lead to the vehicle rolling away and causing accidents. In the 2015 Nissan Frontier, there have been reports of this problem, which is attributed to a faulty parking pawl or a malfunctioning brake system .
- Tank Splashing Fuel Out While Refueling: This issue affects models from 2014 to 2018, where the vehicle either won't accept more fuel or occasionally sends it back out. This problem is attributed to the fuel tank pressure becoming unstable when the tank reaches a specific level of capacity .
- Seats Issues: The seat anchor points on 2014 Nissan Frontier models appear to be attached to the car's body as intended, which can increase the risk of injury during a collision. Additionally, there is an issue related to loose seat belt brackets, where the seat belt anchor can easily break in a crash, resulting in the loss of seat restraint and thereby raising the risk of injury .

I previously owned a 2008 Frontier SV Crew-Cab 4X4 4.0L 6cyl 5A truck and absolutely loved it. Recently, I purchased a 2015 SV CC 4X4 4.0L 6cyl 5A with Value Package, no Nav, and it's been a great truck overall. However, I have experienced some issues with the bluetooth. Unfortunately, the system defaults to automatically replying to text messages, which both Nissan Consumer Affairs and the dealership have acknowledged as a defect. Despite this, Consumer Affairs has not provided any support or updates to fix the issue, only stating that they are aware of it. I highly recommend testing your phone's connection before making a purchase. Despite the faulty software programming and lack of support from Nissan, I still love my truck.

Make sure to properly tie down the straps that hold the catalytic covers in place. If they become loose or broken, it can sound like the transmission or engine is grinding. When doing the repair, check for rusted straps. I personally bought Alum clamps and tied them down, which eliminated the noise and made my truck purr like a kitten. It's disappointing that Nissan uses cheap straps that rust out at only 23,000 miles. I recommend using stainless steel straps to avoid any issues. Despite this, my truck has been solid and runs great at 56,000 miles. I even found a rusted ground from the CAT to the body, which I replaced myself. Although there are many complaints on the Nissan forum for the Gen3 units, I still love my 2015 Frontier. It's the best running truck I've ever had!

The Nissan Frontier may be an old school truck, but it still packs a punch. While some may argue that there are more modern competitors available, the Pro-4X trim turns this truck into an off-road warrior. Opting for the luxury package adds electronically adjustable leather seats with heaters, leather interior, sunroof, and a rugged roof rack. When it comes to taking a truck into the wilds, old school can be a good thing. The engine and drive system have been proven and improved upon over the past decade, with the 4.0 V6 providing power to spare. The part-time 4-wheel drive includes HI and LO ranges, locking rear differential, and hill start/hill descent control, ensuring that this truck can handle any terrain without complaint. Fit and finish are top-notch, and the Rockford Fosgate sound system is as good as they come, with excellent sound quality and plenty of bass to keep you entertained while you're climbing over rocks and boulders. As someone who has owned 3 Frontiers and 2 Xterras in the past, I can attest to the capabilities of these trucks. When it came time to purchase my next vehicle, I knew that this was the truck I wanted. It provides the most bang for your buck and is a solid investment that will last for many years of on and off-road adventure. The new trucks may be more luxurious, but they come with a much higher price tag. Do you really want to invest $40k on something that you intend to get down and dirty with? Not to mention that they'll be working out the kinks in the new models for a while. UPDATE FEBRUARY 2017: After driving the truck for 18 months and almost 28,000 miles, I have nothing much to complain about. The stock Hankook Dynapro ATM tires have grown a bit louder, but that seems to be the norm for all-terrain tires.Other than regular maintenance, the vehicle has been perfect. It's still rock solid with no rattles, and the fit and finish remain excellent. Maintenance costs have been extremely low, especially considering that I only have it serviced at my local dealer. I'm not sure if the low cost is just for this dealer or reflects generally low maintenance costs for this vehicle. The off-road capabilities are excellent, and on-road manners are quite civilized (other than the slight growl from the A/T tires). The mileage typically varies from 17.5 - 18.5 MPG. Although the factory nav/audio system has an occasional glitch and sometimes freezes up, it's easily remedied by a hard reset of the system (holding down the power button for several seconds). Since purchasing the Frontier, I've had the opportunity to review all the new truck models. While there are newer and more modern trucks available, the Frontier remains an excellent choice, offering as many (if not more) premium features for fewer dollars.

You made a great choice with the 2015 truck! Although it may not have all the bells and whistles, it's perfect for your work needs. The price difference between the 2018 and 2015 models is significant, and it's great that you were able to save almost $9000.00. It seems like the truck will serve you well, and although the gas mileage may be on the low side for a 4 cylinder, it's still a great value for the price. Let's see how it performs over time!

I had a 2008 Ford F-150 and you can quote me on this: the Frontier SV V-6 is like a tiger tank compared to an outdated Grant tank when comparing the two. The Ford needed repairs almost daily, but the Frontier is all I ever expected it to be - a great truck. It's just the right size and fits into the garage without having to get out and close the mirrors. It was well worth the cost of buying. In an updated review, I am very pleased with the truck. It's the down east beast. This is an update: we have put 10,000 miles on it and it suits us fine. No problems. 05-31-18.

I am a mild driver and have been driving for almost 60 years. Unfortunately, my Nissan has had some issues. At 12,500 miles, the right rear main seal failed, and the rotor, pads, caliper, and seal all had to be replaced. At 22,500 miles, the check engine light came on, and the emissions system failed. The canister, vent valve, filler pipe, and bolt all needed to be replaced. Thankfully, all of the above was covered under warranty, but I am concerned about what will happen after the warranty period ends at 36,000 miles. It is too much of a risk to keep this vehicle past the warranty period. It is a shame because it could be a good old school truck. UPDATE--5/31/18--35,500 miles--rear backup sonar failed. This will be my final rating on this vehicle before I trade it in. Unfortunately, there were too many problems.

Using the 1/2 doors can be a bit challenging in parking lots where space may be limited. Unfortunately, the acceleration is not very impressive (I was even beaten by a Prius last week). Additionally, I got stuck on flat ground in wet grass and had to be pushed off. The vehicle struggled to handle a trailer that was 18The half doors may be a bit awkward, but they do the job of storing work stuff in the back. Although, it's worth noting that people won't fit back there.

I recently purchased a Nissan Frontier SV 4x4 Crew Cab, my first new vehicle. Unfortunately, I have encountered a few issues with it. Firstly, there was no hole drilled for the air conditioner drain, which caused water to leak all over the interior and blow out of every vent. Although Nissan has fixed this issue, I have also noticed that the 'paint' on the rear wheel wells is falling off after only 5,000 miles. Despite several attempts, Nissan has refused to fix this issue, claiming it is environmental. Additionally, the rear sonar stopped working at 8,000 miles. Despite some challenges, I remain confident in the quality of my Nissan Frontier.

I've been driving my Nissan truck for a year and a half now, and it has clocked 43500 miles. My daily commute is 48 miles each way to work, and I get an average of 16MPG. I bought this truck for a few reasons, and after some negotiation, I managed to get it for $27,300, which is a great price for a well-equipped 4x4 truck. Although other manufacturers have updated their small trucks, you could hardly do better than this one. The seats are comfortable, and the seat warmers are a nice touch. The web material is also nice, but the back seat is too small for long trips with even small-medium sized passengers. I have three kids, and it works out for shuttling them to and from school. However, on longer trips, they tend to complain. The storage under the rear seat is a nice feature. Recently, I found a puddle of rainwater inside the truck after returning from vacation. The antenna for the XM radio had come loose, and water leaked into the truck from the roof. Fortunately, there was no headliner damage. Despite being 18 months old, the dealer wouldn't fix it due to the mileage, and neither would Nissan. (Nissan's customer service is poor.) The truck runs well and has good power. For a rear-wheel-drive truck, it handles well, and the ABS works great. I have the rails in the truck bed, which is a nice option. When I added gasoline and maintenance estimates, it was by far cheaper than the Colorado or the Toyota.

I am writing this because my Frontier has only 87,000 miles on it, which is not even close to being considered an old truck by today's standards! I followed all the service intervals suggested by the manufacturer, but now the check engine light is on after Concord Nissan serviced it. I have been going back and forth with them, only to find out that they are not fixing the check engine light problem. It seems like they are just turning the check engine light off without properly fixing the problem. Now, I am out $2,200 and have no solution. I am left with no choice but to contact the state of California DMV office and all appropriate agencies about this, which could take a long time. However, I am hopeful that this issue will be resolved soon.
