2013 Ford Edge problems

The Ford Edge is a range of crossover SUVs manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Edge is the first mid-size CUV marketed by Ford in North America; the model line is currently in its second generation. Deriving its name from a trim package of the Ford Ranger, the Ford Edge is positioned between the Ford Escape and the Ford Explorer within the Ford product line.
Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Fusion sedan, Ford has also produced the model line as the Lincoln MKX (since 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus). The second generation is also marketed by Ford of Europe, positioned between the Kuga (Escape) and the Explorer PHEV.
All production of the first two generations of the Ford Edge is sourced from Ford of Canada at Oakville Assembly (Oakville, Ontario) alongside the Nautilus.
The third generation launched in 2023 is called the Edge L, and was first produced and sold exclusively in China.

Common 2013 Ford Edge problems
The 2013 Ford Edge has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to broken electrical sensors, stalling engines, and transmission issues.
Broken electrical sensors, specifically for the doors, are a widespread complaint from owners. The door ajar sensors fail repeatedly, leaving the lights and chimes on, which can drain the battery. To fix the problem, the latch assembly must be replaced for approximately $500 per door. These problems seem to recur multiple times, leading to endless repairs.
Stalling engines are another common problem found on the 2013 Ford Edge. A failing throttle body causes the engine to stall suddenly while driving. Replacing the throttle body costs around $600, depending on local labor rates.
Transmission issues, leading to a “shift to park” warning light, are also mentioned by many owners. Replacing the gear shift selector usually fixes the issue, although in some cases there are problems inside the transmission. The gear shift selector costs around $550 to replace, and transmission repairs are over $1,500.
In addition to these problems, there are two serious recalls on the 2013 Ford Edge. The first recall covers a fuel leak which can cause a fire, and Ford will replace the fuel line. The second recall is for the half shaft which can become disengaged, leading to a rollaway situation. Ford will replace the half shaft for free on affected models.
When it comes to the longevity of the 2013 Ford Edge, a well-maintained model will last around 150,000 miles, which is only half as long as top-rated competitors like the Toyota Highlander. Regular annual maintenance costs are more expensive than average, according to data from Repair Pal, at $673 per year. Since most 2013 Edge models have over 100,000 miles, buyers should be prepared to replace items including the yaw sensor for $2,000, and the A/C blower motor which costs around $250.

2013 Ford Edge recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2013 Ford Edge.
- Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company
- Components: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT
- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.
- Consequence: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.

The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process. A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage, or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. The safety recall began on February 25, 2014. Owners may contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 13S13. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes recall 12V-438. I love this car inside out! It's so solid and there's very minimal road noise, which I really appreciate. Although it does slide a little in heavy snow, the AWD kicks in quickly and rights itself. Luckily, I haven't had to repair anything at all and with about 24000 miles on it, I haven't had any problems so far. The V6 engine has good get up and go when you need it. I would definitely recommend this car over and over!

When my partner and I were in the market for a new car, we took our time to find the perfect fit. Over the course of two months, we test drove 15 different makes and models. We made it clear to the dealers that we were just shopping around and they were more than willing to work with us. In the end, we chose the Edge because of its high-quality feel and sleek design. While the Ford touch took some getting used to, we haven't had any issues with it since. When it came time to make the purchase, we found two cars 30 miles apart and worked the dealers against each other over the phone. We were able to secure a great deal in less than an hour and paid with our own financing. Overall, it was an easy and enjoyable shopping experience. Despite some minor issues with the rear view camera and front end sound, we have been very happy with our decision to keep the Edge. We recently replaced the struts and brakes and it's running great. We plan to keep it for at least another year as the interior is still in like-new condition and we continue to enjoy driving it.

I bought my 2013 Edge used at 70,000 miles. As soon as I got it, I had Ford change all the fluids. I did encounter two minor problems, but I was able to fix them myself. The first issue was with the canister purge valve, which only cost me $50 at Autozone and about 10 minutes of my time. Ford, on the other hand, wanted $80 for diagnosis and $150 for repair. The second issue was the annoying door ajar problem, which I fixed by buying a $7 can of electronics spray for moving parts and spraying it into the door latch mechanism. Again, Ford wanted $80 for diagnosis and $300 for repair. I haven't had the issue come up again, and it's been five months. Other than that, I absolutely love the car. Mine came without Sync, which I didn't mind. I average about 23-25 miles per gallon in the city and 28-30 miles per gallon on the highway. I hope this helps!

The Ford Edge Sport is a capable SUV with impressive acceleration in sport mode. While the ride can be a bit rough due to the 22-inch wheels, the back seats are spacious and comfortable. Despite some minor issues with the driver side door and a faulty sensor, the Edge Sport is a reliable vehicle overall. However, it is important to note that the night visibility is poor and the lights are not up to par. Based on my experience, I would not purchase this SUV again, but it may still be a suitable option for some drivers.

I'm glad to hear that you find the entry and exit process easy. It's great to know that the ride comfort is very good and that you don't feel tired after a long trip. It's also good to hear that the fuel mileage is within the posted figures, and that you sometimes get 26 on the road and mostly 17 around town. Additionally, I'm pleased to hear that you like the layout of the interior.

This car had the potential to be great, but unfortunately, Ford's build quality and lack of attention to known issues, as well as its poor resale value, make it a vehicle and manufacturer to avoid. Despite this, the ride is fairly smooth, the cabin is comfortable and quiet, and the engine has plenty of power, even for a slightly overweight crossover like this one. The MyFord Touch system could have been made simpler, and the transmission can be a little rough when shifting at times. While the AWD is better than not having any, it is not as capable as some of its competitors, such as Subaru, Audi, or even Toyota. So far, there have been issues with the brake booster, ABS sensor, hard drive, and door sensor, all of which are common problems with this car, but Ford has yet to acknowledge half of them.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you have been experiencing with your 2013 Limited with 301A package and other features. It must have been frustrating to have the tire alert come on just two days after purchasing the car, but I am glad to hear that there was nothing wrong with the tires. However, it is concerning to hear about the violent lunge you experienced while driving at around 40 mph, and the subsequent difficulty downshifting into first gear with clunking. I understand that the service team found metal in the transmission and attempted to repair the valve body, but the issue still persists. It is unfortunate that your Edge has been with Ford service for 12 days now and they have not been able to fix it yet. I can imagine that this has been a difficult experience for you, especially since you have only owned the Edge for 51 days. Please know that we are here to support you and will do everything we can to help resolve this issue. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Although the front seating lacks good support for road trips, the multi adjustable power seat is a nice feature. It would be great if there was a good placement of a

After owning a 2010 RAV4 for the last 3 years, we decided it was time for a change. While the RAV4 Sport was capable, it wasn't very comfortable or rewarding to drive. Fast forward to the Ford Edge, and we were pleasantly surprised. This car is quite nice - quiet, powerful, and comfortable. We were also impressed by the engine note from the base V6, and while it's not an eco-buster, the MPGs are above average for a heavy SUV. Now that it's broken in a bit, we're seeing even more improvement. The Sync system can be a little clunky, and unfortunately, it has trouble keeping accurate time. We're not sure if it's a bug, but it's a minor issue. Overall, we're very happy with our decision, although we do wish we had opted for the panoramic sunroof.

My 2013 Ford Edge ran smoothly for the first 60,000 miles and 5 years. However, at around 67,000 miles and 6 years, I encountered an issue with a leak under the hood. Despite my good maintenance practices, the transmission failed and I was unable to drive. I took it to the dealership for service and was informed that the leakage was from the transmission fluid. Although disappointed that this occurred just after the 5yr/60k powertrain warranty had expired, I paid the $1,800 to fix the issue. Unfortunately, the problem persisted and the car continued to leak the very next day. As a result, I am frustrated with FORD and its Dealership Service and have decided not to purchase a FORD again. I hope others can learn from my experience.
