- Summary: I have a 2008 Suburban. Beginning in August, there was an accident on the highway and traffic was backed up. I was idling, waiting for the traffic to move, like every other car on the hightway and the suburban just shut off and said "Stablitrak off." It happened numerous times after this, just when idling. I took to the dealership I bought it at. They charged a ton to fix something but it didn't' take care of the problem. It's gotten so much worse. I took back a few months ago and they fixed it again, but didn't charge us this time. Now it's so much worse. Anytime I'm iding, just picking my daughter up at school or just stopped at a red light, a warning comes across, "service stabilitrak" or "stablitrak off." and the car immediately shuts off. It usually restarts in 5 minutes or so and I can usually make it to my destination as long as I don't idle again. Monday I was picking up my daughter and it stalled in the parking lot at her high school with tons of cars behind me- I waited, restarted it as I have done in the past. But then, going down this steep high school hill, the car shut off, lost steering and brakes wouldn't even work. I had teen drivers ahead of me that I nearly crashed into, teens in my car. This is not ok. We took it back to the dealership and now they say it's an electrical problem. I've read a ton online forums that this is something that happens with a lot of other people. I'm afraid to drive my car. I'm also not sure what to get fixed because these other people have spent tons of money, just like me with no results.

The Suburban is a strong and high-quality SUV that is definitely worth the price. As someone who previously owned a Durango and loved it, I can confidently say that the Suburban is a considerable upgrade. It provides more than enough room for the family on long trips and boasts great towing capability. I spent a long time researching before deciding to trade in, and I am glad I did. Not only does it get better MPG, but it also rides better and is more comfortable. While the MPG may not be the best, it has features that crossovers do not. I even added a K&N filter to help increase the MPG, and I am overall very satisfied with my purchase of the Suburban.

I purchased the dealer's model with 10,000 miles on it, but unfortunately, it has been in the shop 8 times and counting with only 36,500 miles. After just 1 month, the vehicle died while I was driving it. The dealer had it for 2 weeks and informed me that they were 'talking to Detroit' before replacing the fuel pump. However, just 1 week later, when I started the truck and was letting it warm up, it shut off and would not restart. The engine light has come on multiple times, and despite the dealer's efforts, they have been unable to find the problem. Additionally, the front passenger door has broken twice, and I had to have the CV boot replaced just 2 months ago. Now, there is rust and bubbling on the driver's door, which the dealer will not cover. Furthermore, there are still unresolved issues such as whistling through the radio that increases with acceleration and turning on the rear defrost causing the radio to go out.

The Suburban's interior quality is impressive and the standard suspension provides a smooth ride. The redesigned gauge faces and sound system are also great features. The Ebony Leather seats are comfortable and the V8 Power is impressive. Your wife's trip from LA to Phoenix with an average of 17 MPG is fantastic! I love this vehicle! It's such an upgrade from my 2003 burb. The ride is much smoother and the gas mileage is surprisingly good for a truck this size, especially with the deactivation mode. The transitions are seamless and unnoticeable. The seating refinements are fantastic. I recently drove all the way to Georgia (about 8 hours) and I wasn't tired at all - it was a great experience. Keep up the good work, Chevy - I love you!

The Active Fuel Management System has caused some major issues on this vehicle. I have spent $2,000 on repairs so far, but unfortunately, the problem still persists. Even World Class trained Chevy Technicians are having trouble figuring out how to deal with the AFM and how to fix the problem. The next step is to spend $4,500 to have a closer look and maybe fix the problem. It's disappointing because Suburbans were supposed to have a great engine, but the Active Fuel Management has caused some problems. It's important to be aware that there is a special memo inside of Chevy mechanics only talking about a high oil consumption problem that needs 11 parts added to the vehicle to fix the problem at your own cost. Chevy won't tell anyone outside of their network that they had to have Chevy engineers come up with a band aid. Unfortunately, they also won't cover any of the cost. I would advise against buying a 2008 Suburban from anyone.

I purchased a 2008 Suburban 15 months ago, but unfortunately, it has been experiencing some issues. The tire sensors and power locks have been failing, and I had to replace both front hub rings at different times. One time, the left front wheel almost came off while driving on the highway at 65 MPH. This experience has led me to question the reliability of this model compared to my two 2001 Suburbans. However, I still have faith in GM and their ability to produce quality vehicles.
