2014 Chevrolet Suburban problems

The Chevrolet Suburban is a series of SUVs built by Chevrolet since the 1935 model year. The longest-used automobile nameplate in the world, the Chevrolet Suburban is currently in its twelfth generation, introduced for 2021. Beginning life as one of the first metal-bodied station wagons, the Suburban is the progenitor of the modern full-size SUV, combining a wagon-style body with the chassis and powertrain of a pickup truck. Alongside its Advance Design, Task Force, and C/K predecessors, the Chevrolet Silverado currently shares chassis and mechanical commonality with the Suburban and other trucks.

Traditionally one of the most profitable vehicles sold by General Motors, the Suburban has been marketed through both Chevrolet and GMC for nearly its entire production. Along sharing the Suburban name with Chevrolet, GMC has used several nameplates for the model line; since 2000, the division has marketed it as the GMC Yukon XL. Since 2003, Cadillac has marketed the Suburban as the Cadillac Escalade ESV. During the 1990s, GM Australia marketed right-hand drive Suburbans under the Holden brand.

.The Suburban is sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Chile, Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Peru, Philippines, and the Middle East (except Israel), while the Yukon XL is sold only in North America (exclusive to the United States, Canada, and Mexico) and the Middle East territories (except Israel).

A 2018 iSeeCars.com study identified the Chevrolet Suburban as the car that is driven the most each year. A 2019 iSeeCars.com study named the Chevrolet Suburban the second-ranked longest-lasting vehicle. In December 2019, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce unveiled a Hollywood Walk of Fame star for the Suburban, noting that the Suburban had been in "1,750 films and TV shows since 1952."

Negative 2014 Chevrolet Suburban car reviews

  1. Jordan Carter 2024-11-02

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my 2012 Suburban LTZ. I've taken great care of it since I bought it new and it's been a reliable vehicle with 160,000 miles on it. I do want to mention that it burns a quart of oil every 4,000 miles, but it hasn't affected its performance. Unfortunately, after 7 years and 100,000 miles, I noticed some rusting on the hood and rear quarter panels where they meet the bumper cover, despite my efforts to keep it clean and waxed. When I reached out to GM, they didn't acknowledge the issue and claimed it was something they had never seen before. It's disappointing that a vehicle that cost $60,000 (in 2012) would start rusting after just 7 years. As a result, I've decided not to purchase another GM vehicle. Thank you for taking the time to read my experience!

Although this was my first American car, unfortunately, it will also be my last. Within six months of purchasing it, I had to visit the dealership four times to address various issues. The first issue was with the seating, which felt uncomfortable due to an extra bar pushing upwards. It was unbearable to drive for more than 5 miles. The second issue was with the A/C, which blew hot air even when it was turned on. This was not ideal, especially on a 100-degree day. Overall, I am disappointed with the quality of the car. I had expected much more from a company that has made such a dramatic financial turnaround.

  3. Kevon Nader 2024-05-27

I recently had to say goodbye to my beloved Chevy Tahoe after 16 years and almost 200k miles. I decided to stick with the brand and upgrade to a Suburban for the extra space. Unfortunately, it hasn't been the best financial decision I've made. While I can't speak to the car's mechanical performance yet, I was disappointed to find that much of the body is now made of cheap plastic. The technology in the car is also quite outdated, to the point where it's embarrassing to drive in Silicon Valley. In fact, my motorcycle helmet has a better-designed infotainment system! However, I'm hopeful that the car will serve its purpose and get me where I need to go.

  4. Keenan Kovacek 2024-04-10

I have only owned my suburban for 1.5 months and have already had to visit the dealership twice, with one of those visits lasting a week. Unfortunately, the sunroof leaks, which is quite frustrating. Despite the dealer installing a new piece of glass, the issue persists. While the drip pan is currently handling the water, I am concerned about the long-term effects of this issue. The dealer's explanation that sunroofs are designed to leak is not satisfactory, especially since this was not disclosed to me by the salesman. Additionally, the vehicle runs rough, and I was told that this is normal for a Chevy. However, I find this hard to believe and am disappointed with my purchase. I regret not sticking with my Ford diesel.

  5. Juvenal Wyman 2024-02-20

This is my fourth Suburban, and unfortunately, it's my least favorite. The air vents are in an inconvenient location, and the navigation system and knobs for the heat and air are positioned too low, making them difficult to see. It would have been better if they had placed them higher, like other cars. The cup holders in the older models were much more practical, and there is nowhere to put things in this one. The DVD system is also not very user-friendly, especially if you have kids. If the TV control gets lost, you can't even operate it from the back seat. It seems like the designers did not consider the needs of families. I miss my old Suburban and wish I had it back. Overall, this model is not very convenient for my needs.

Positive 2014 Chevrolet Suburban car reviews

  1. Paris Goyette 2025-01-05

It's great for long distance traveling! During the summer, we drove about 600 miles comfortably over Donner Pass and the Grapevine (both ways) without stopping for gasoline or needing a break. The outside temperature ranged from 80 degrees (Reno) to 113 degrees (Bakersfield), but inside it was about 72 degrees. I'm still showing 19.2 mpg with a mix of city and rural driving, but I usually drive lightly on the gas pedal except when climbing hills. So far, I'm very happy with my purchase and its ability to fit lots of people and infant seats. It's easy to access the 3rd row and the large cargo area for carrying weekly groceries or bulky items. I think a full-sized mattress would fit with the rear seat removed and the 2nd row folded. Plus, it has XM radio!

  2. Tito Rath 2024-11-23

I want to start my review by mentioning that I only rented this truck for a short period of time. However, during that time, I was able to get a good sense of what it was like. The interior space was absolutely massive, which was great for me as I'm 6ft. 3 and had plenty of room. The truck's excellent road manners were surprising considering its huge size, and it was a significant improvement over the old Suburbans. The V8 with active fuel management was impressive in how it seamlessly shut off cylinders, but I do think that a bit more power would have been helpful in moving this behemoth. While it was adequate for driving around town, I would definitely opt for the bigger engine if I had to tow anything.

    Great family car 🚗

  4. Lorenzo Witting 2024-11-21

We were interested in buying a larger car for our growing family and the salesman was incredibly helpful. He even brought the Suburban down to my home in Utah County so I could see it and test drive it. Throughout the week, we had frequent conversations about pricing and the type of car we wanted, and he was always patient and helpful. Thanks so much for your assistance! Best regards, Krista S.

  5. Weldon Boyle 2024-08-05

Great vehicle with lots of room! Although it may be a bit underpowered, it's still a fantastic choice. Plus, it has tons of room and impressive towing capacity.
