1999 Plymouth Voyager problems
Plymouth Voyager is a nameplate for a range of vans that were marketed by the Plymouth division of Chrysler. From 1974 until 1983, the Voyager was a full-size van, sold as the counterpart of Dodge Sportsman (later the Dodge Ram Wagon). Starting with the 1984 model year, the Voyager was marketed as one of the new Chrysler minivan, along with the Dodge Caravan. As a minivan, there were three generations of the Voyager from 1984 until 2000. Following the closure of the Plymouth division in 2000, the Voyager was marketed under the Chrysler brand as a lower-trim version of the Chrysler Town & Country through 2003.
From 1988 through 2016, Chrysler used the Chrysler Voyager name for export-market minivans; during the existence of the Plymouth brand, export-market Voyagers were produced with the body and trim of the Dodge Caravan. Including the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan with their rebadged Chrysler, Lancia, and Volkswagen variants, the Chrysler minivans collectively rank as the 13th best-selling automotive model line worldwide.
The Plymouth Voyager minivan was assembled by Chrysler at its Windsor Assembly facility in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; from 1987 to 2000, the Voyager was also assembled at Saint Louis Assembly in Fenton, Missouri (North plant from 1987 through 1995; South plant from 1996 until 2000).
The full-size Plymouth Voyager van was assembled from 1974 until 1983 at the Pillette Road Truck Assembly in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and at the St. Louis North Assembly Plant in Fenton, Missouri.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-03-10
- VIN: 1P4GP45R1XB
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: THERE ARE INSTANCES WHERE I AM OUT AND ABOUT AND AFTER RETURNING THE MY VEHICLE I GO IN AND WHEN I START THE VEHICLE IT WILL START AND SHUT ITSELF OFF. SEEMS TO HAPPENS WHEN I USE IT FREQUENTLY OR ON HOTTER DAYS. ALSO THE PANEL INSIDE THE CAR THAT TELLS YOU YOUR SPEED THE GAS YOU HAVE THE GEARS ALL THAT STUFF WILL STOP FUNCTIONING BUT THE CAR WILL STILL BE DRIVABLE. THAT WILL HAVE I'S OWN TIME WHEN IT TOO DECIDES WHEN IT WANTS TO WORK AND WHEN IT WILL WORK. THESE DO NOT HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME. THEY HAPPEN SEPARATELY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS AN ALARM ISSUES LOCKING THE VEHICLE BUT IT HAPPENS EVEN WHEN THE ALARM IS USED PROPERLY. THEN AT A LATER TIME THE VEHICLE WILL START AND WORK AS IT HAD ONCE BEFORE. VEHICLE RUNS GREAT IT JUST OCCASIONALLY WILL NOT TURN ON. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY SAY IT IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I GOT A SECOND OPINION AND THAT MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME IT WAS A ELECTRICAL ISSUE. NEITHER MECHANIC DOES ELECTRICAL WORK. ONE STATED THERE ARE SO MANY CODES HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO TELL ME AND SO HE GAVE ME THE VEHICLE BACK. AND SAID IT IS WORKING FINE NOW. AND THAT IS WHERE WHEN IT COMES TO THE ELECTRICAL PARTS FAILING THE MECHANICS WANT THE VEHICLE WHEN IT IS NOT FUNCTIONING. WHEN THEY GET TO IT IT IS FINE THEREFORE FEEL IT IS BEST TO JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE LIKE THIS IT HAPPENED THE SECOND DAY. THEN MECHANIC FIXED WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A LOSE WIRE. BUT IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED 5 TO EIGHT TIMES WITH A FEW OF THOSE RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE STARTING REMOVING FROM TOW OR RIGHT BEFORE GOING ON TOW. I USUALLY JUST GO PICK UP THE VEHICLE AT A LATER TIME WHEN IT HAS TIME TO REST. I GO BACK AND START IT AS IF NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. ONLY WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE NEVER WHILE DRIVING. THE GADGETS ARE THE ONES THAT STOP WORKING WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIMES WHEN I START THE VEHICLE THEY ARE NOT FUNCTIONING.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-05-20
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC
- Summary: I HAVE SEEN ON CERTAIN CHRYSLER MODELS, ESPECIALLY MINIVANS, WITH THE 2-PIN FLOATING CALIPER DESIGN THAT THE SURFACE OF THE STEERING KNUCKLE WHERE THE BRAKE PADS RIDE WEARS AWAY AND CAN CAUSE THE AFFECTED WHEEL TO LOCK UP EITHER DURING A STOP OR AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE BRAKE PADS WEDGING IN THE GROOVE. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN DURING A BRAKE APPLICATION, THE VEHICLE COULD VEER INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE MOUNTING DESIGN (IE: BOLTS AND SLIDE PINS,) IS FLAWED. THE BOLTS ARE TOO SHORT AND DO NOT MAKE ENOUGH CONTACT WITH THE THREADS, ESPECIALLY AFTER ROUTINE BRAKE MAINTENANCE THE HOLES CAN BECOME STRIPPED. CHRYSLER RECOMMENDS A TORQUE OF 119 IN/LBS OR 16 FT/LBS (SOURCE: ALLDATA 2011 LLC,) ALTHOUGH WHEN TORQUED TO SPECIFICATION, THE BOLT THREADS STRIP OUT. IF THE BOLTS WERE TO BE LOOSE OR ULTIMATELY FALL OFF THE VEHICLE, THE CALIPER WILL RIDE ON THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL, MAKING NOISE OR LOCKING THE WHEEL DURING ANY DRIVING MANEUVER; WHICH CAN LEAD TO A CRASH. CORRECTION TO THE FAILING KNUCKLE IS SIMPLE IF FOUND EARLY ENOUGH. THE EDGES CAN BE GROUND DOWN TO ALLOW THE PADS TO MOVE SMOOTHLY, SHIMS CAN BE ADDED TO COMPENSATE FOR THE REMOVED MATERIAL AND A DECENT HIGH-TEMPERATURE BRAKE GREASE SHOULD BE USED ON THE SLIDING SURFACE. CORRECTION TO THE CALIPER MOUNTING HARDWARE IS THREAD REPAIR WITH A HELICOIL SET FOR 9MM BOLTS. IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE EXTENDED BOLTS AVAILABLE (METRIC GRADE 10.9,) FROM THE MANUFACTURER. TOO OFTEN THAN NOT I HAVE SEEN THESE PROBLEMS WHERE BRAKE MAINTENANCE IS ALMOST/OVER DUE. *TR

Your car doesn't have to be flashy to be great. I got my Voyager for a great price from a private owner when it was only 2 years old and had almost 89,000 miles on it (it was a former fleet car). Now, in 2008, it has over 178,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. I've only had to replace the tires, brakes, and fluids, and I've had no major problems with it. Last year, I had to replace the tie rods and wheel bearings, and just yesterday I replaced the spark plugs and wires (which is to be expected given its age and use). I'll be sad when my minivan finally gives out, but until then, I'm enjoying every moment with it.

Your van sounds like an amazing family vehicle! It's impressive that you've already put 30000 miles on it in just a year and a half. You've taken it on some long trips too, from MN to Colorado and even all the way to TX. It's great to hear that you've never had any problems with it and that it's been extremely reliable. Based on your experience, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one myself.

This is a fantastic family car! It's perfect for both in-town and out-of-town trips. Plus, if you fold down the back seats, you have a covered truck. The only thing that's missing is a DVD player in the back.

I'm so happy with our first mini-van! I can't believe we didn't get one sooner. The ride is so much smoother compared to my husband's SUV, which always feels so rough. I feel much safer driving the mini-van because I can see everything around me. Whenever we go out as a family, we always take the mini-van instead of the SUV. It's been over 50,000 miles and we haven't had a single problem with it. Plus, with the seats out, it can carry a lot, so we use it as a truck whenever we need to!

This thing is giving me a lot of trouble. I've been experiencing constant engine problems such as massive oil leaks and burned valves. Unfortunately, when I reached out to Chrysler, they were not able to help me out. I'm feeling quite frustrated and disappointed, and I don't think I'll be purchasing another Chrysler product in the future.

Hi there! I see you're in the market for a family hauler after your third child arrived. I've come across a few vans that might interest you. They're quite common on the used market and can be a great option for buyers looking to save on depreciation. I've personally owned one for almost two years now and it's held up really well, thanks to regular maintenance. The only downside is that it's a bit underpowered with the Mitsubishi 3.0l 6cyl engine. If you're looking for more power, I'd recommend going for the larger 6's with the 4 spd auto trans, either the 3.3l or the 3.8l. On the bright side, the gas mileage is pretty decent, with 24mpg on the highway and a couple less in the city. Overall, I can't complain and I think this vehicle is definitely worth considering if you're looking for value for your dollar. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi there! I'm writing to share my experience with my van. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it. After purchasing it, I had to return it to the Chrysler service team to resurface the rotors. Since then, they have attempted to fix the problem three times, which is a shame because most people never experience these kinds of issues with their cars. I've also had to fix the rotors myself once, and now they need repairing again. On top of that, I've had problems with the cruise control and transmission. Recently, I've noticed that it's been using 2 quarts of oil every 3000 miles. Additionally, I had to replace all four tires at 23,000 miles because the belts were busted. Despite these issues, I'm hopeful that we can find a solution and get my van running smoothly again. Thanks for your help!

I've had this car since 2003 and it's been great. Of course, I've had to replace every pipe and wire on it because they were all burned and broken.

Your van looks great with the black exterior and gold leather interior, and it has a powerful V6 3.8 litre engine. However, it seems to have some issues with overall quality and reliability. You mentioned that the engine light came on during the first week, the cruise control failed, the transmission leaked, the water pump broke, some interior lights flicker, and the power steering pulley broke off. Fortunately, you had the gold package warranty transferred to your name for only $200, which was well worth the investment. It's worth considering a Toyota or Honda for better quality and reliability.
