1998 Chevrolet Chevy van problems
The Chevrolet Van or Chevy Van (also known as the Chevrolet/GMC G-series vans and GMC Vandura) is a range of vans that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1964 to 1996 model years. Introduced as the successor for the rear-engine Corvair Corvan/Greenbrier, the model line also replaced the panel van configuration of the Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle was sold both in passenger van and cargo van configurations as well as a cutaway van chassis that served as the basis for a variety of custom applications.
Produced across three generations (1964–66, 1967–70, and 1970–96), the model line was sold under a wide variety of model names under both the Chevrolet and GMC brands. The first two generations were forward control vehicles (with the engine placed between the seats); the third generation adopted a configuration placing the engine forward of the driver. The second and third generations shared powertrain commonality with the C/K pickup truck model line.
After the 1996 model year, GM retired the G-Series vans, replacing them with the GMT600-platform Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Common 1998 Chevrolet Chevy van problems
The 1998 Chevrolet Express 2500 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include engine problems, electrical issues, fuel system problems, transmission problems, and body problems.
One of the most common engine problems is excessive oil consumption in the 5.3L Vortec 5300 engine from 2010-2014. This problem is due to multiple design flaws that led to excessive oil consumption, which can cause soiled spark plugs, bent pushrods, and timing chain wear. This issue was so prevalent that it led to a lawsuit against GM.
Another engine problem is related to the Passlock security system, which is designed to prevent theft. However, it has been reported to cause issues for the actual owner, as the system can prevent the car from starting. This problem has been reported in the 1998 Chevrolet Express 2500, and it can be frustrating for owners who are unable to start their vehicles.
Electrical issues have also been reported in the 1998 Chevrolet Express 2500. For example, there have been reports of electrical shorts in the heating system, which can cause components to overheat and catch fire. This issue can be particularly dangerous, as it can start a fire in the headliner of the van. GM has not yet announced a recall for this issue, so owners are advised to keep the heat down in the meantime.
Fuel system problems have also been reported in the 1998 Chevrolet Express 2500. For example, there have been reports of fuel pump failure in the 1999 Express, with three complaints recorded. Additionally, there have been reports of paint flaking off in the 2006 Express, with three complaints recorded. These issues can be frustrating for owners, as they can lead to additional repairs and maintenance costs.
Transmission problems have also been reported in the 1998 Chevrolet Express 2500. For example, there have been reports of torque converter failure in the 2009 Express, with two complaints recorded. This issue can be particularly problematic, as it can lead to a loss of power and difficulty driving.
Body problems have also been reported in the 1998 Chevrolet Express 2500. For example, there have been reports of poor paint jobs in the 2003 Express, with two complaints recorded. Additionally, there have been reports of peeling paint in the 2005 Express, with two complaints recorded. These issues can be frustrating for owners, as they can lead to a loss of value and additional maintenance costs.
In summary, the 1998 Chevrolet Express 2500 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include engine problems, electrical issues, fuel system problems, transmission problems, and body problems. Owners of this vehicle should be aware of these issues and take steps to address them as needed.

I love my 1993 G20 with a 5.7 liter V8! It has plenty of power, great mileage on the highway, and can haul just about anything. I bought it with 53,000 miles and now has 65,000 miles on it. I have had to do nothing to it but general maintenance. I am so pleased with it and hope to have it for years to come. It drives and runs like it is brand new.

Lots of room for people and cargo. The Beauville trim option adds a nice touch to the already great styling.

I recently installed poly bushings in the sway bar and added poly air bags to the front springs, resulting in a superb ride. Unfortunately, the T.P.S. went bad at 75,000 miles, causing a high idle, and the air conditioner compressor seized at 70,000 miles, which burned up the serpentine belt, leaving me without water pumping, alternator or power steering. However, I was able to fix the issue by installing a bypass pulley and a new belt. Additionally, the exhaust fell off, but I was able to install a clamp on a new one from the cat. converter. Although the trip counter gears stripped out, the odometer and counter are still in good condition. Overall, I am very happy with my van, which has been very dependable with 75,000 miles on it now.

I'm so glad I bought this 93 G30/5.7L van, even though it had a lot of miles on it. It starts and runs like a dream, getting me through every day with ease. I've had to do minimal maintenance on it, and it's been incredibly reliable.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my G20 full conversion van. It's been a great addition to my family, especially when we're towing our race trailer around. The amount of room it provides is amazing and it's been a better option for us than any SUV. Although, I did have a bit of trouble recently when the ignition lock busted at 93000 miles, but overall it's been a great investment for us!

I hope you had a great trip! It sounds like the vehicle was pretty dependable and fuel efficient (20+mpg/hwy) considering the size. Although, it may have been under powered when climbing up hills. Overall, it seems like an excellent economical work horse when it's fully loaded.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my conversion van. I bought it back in '95 with only 26,000 miles on it, and it's been quite the journey since then! While I've had to replace the brakes every year and deal with some front end problems during inspections, it's always started up and shifted smoothly. Unfortunately, I did have to replace the axle bearings every year, but I think that's just because I made the van heavy duty without using heavy duty parts. After 10 years, the A/C finally went out, but that was to be expected. Recently, the van was totaled, but I'm actually glad because it's time for a new adventure! Thanks for listening to my story.

Hi there! I noticed that your car has had some issues with the u joints and right rear axle rusting out. It sounds like you've had to replace quite a few parts already. Would you like some help finding a solution to these problems?
