2007 Mazda Mazda3 problems
The Mazda3 (known as the Mazda Axela in Japan (first three generations), a combination of "accelerate" and "excellent") is a compact car manufactured by Mazda. It was first introduced in 2003 as a 2004 model, replacing the Familia/323/Protegé in the C-segment.
The second-generation Mazda3 for the 2009 model year was unveiled in late 2008, with the sedan premiering at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the hatchback at the Bologna Motor Show. For the 2012 model year, Mazda began offering the Mazda3 with their newly developed Skyactiv technology, including a more rigid body, a new direct-injection engine, and a new 6-speed transmission.
The third generation was introduced in mid-2013 as a 2014 model year. The third-generation model is the first Mazda3 to adopt the "Kodo" design language and a more complete Skyactiv range of technologies.
The fourth-generation Mazda3 for the 2019 model year was unveiled in November 2018 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. For the 2019 model, the all-new Mazda3 is equipped with the updated Skyactiv technologies, including a spark-controlled compression ignition engine marketed as the Skyactiv-X.
A performance-oriented version of the Mazda3 was marketed until 2013 as the Mazdaspeed3 in North America, Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan, and the Mazda3 MPS in Europe and Australia.
The Mazda3 became one of Mazda's fastest-selling vehicles, with cumulative sales in January 2019 of over 6 million units.

Common 2007 Mazda Mazda3 problems
The 2007 Mazda3 has been praised for its smooth ride, agile handling, impressive fuel economy, and high-end interior finish. However, there are common problems that owners have reported, which are worth considering if you're in the market for a used Mazda3 from this model year.
- Steering Problems: More than a third of the complaints filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are for steering problems, with drivers reporting power steering failure at various speeds. Despite a 2010 recall on the matter, some drivers have still experienced this issue.
- Airbag Issues: There are numerous complaints about airbag lights staying on, with a few reports of airbags failing to deploy in the event of an accident. A recall for shattered airbag covers took place in 2021, but there is no official response yet to many of the airbag complaints on file.
- Engine Problems: There are 22 complaints on file with the NHTSA for engine issues, including one driver reporting that their motor mounts simply broke while the car was parked in the garage, causing the engine to drop onto the axle and damage it. There have been no recalls on the matter, but the incidence rate is low.
- Front End and Suspension Problems: Rear shock absorbers can leak, causing the rear end of the car to feel 'loose' and bouncy on bumps. This issue is common in the 2004-2009 Mazda3 models.
- Rust: The 2004-2009 Mazda3 is prone to rust, especially in the Salt Belt, around the rear wheel wells, and in the engine. A small rust spot can be repaired, but major rust should be avoided.
- Transmission Control Module (TCM): The TCM is known to fail, causing the transmission to jerk and the 'AT' and 'Check Engine' lights to come on. This part is expensive to replace.
- Tire Noise: If not rotated regularly, rear tires tend to wear unevenly, which may result in a noisy ride.
- Engine Vibration: If the engine vibration is felt with the shifter in Drive, the top engine mount could be bad, although it's not very expensive.
- Excessive Vibrations: A handful of Mazda3 models received complaints about excessive vibrations while driving, which were later determined to be due to a faulty motor mount.
- Rattling from Rear Suspension: Mazda3 drivers have heard rattling from the rear suspension while driving on rough roads, which stemmed from either a loose rear stabilizer bar link or faulty rear brake light components.
These common problems should be taken into account when considering the purchase of a 2007 Mazda3. It is recommended to have any potential vehicle inspected by a mechanic before purchasing, especially if any of these issues are present or suspected.

A FEW LIGHT INDICATES FLASH ON MY DASH AND THE RADIO RESETS. I EVEN SAW MY RADIO RESET IN BETWEEN THE MAJOR EPISODES WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH. I WAS TRAVELING AT THE 3 TIMES IT HAPPENED ROUGHLY 25-30 MPH AND WAS TURNING THE VEHICLE. I LOCATED A RECALL I BELIEVE # 6010H FOR STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM, BUT IT IS FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AFTER APRIL 2, 2017. MY CAR WAS ASSEMBLED ON NOVEMBER 7, 2006. IT STATES THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY CAR MANUFACTURED 5 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE RECALL IS NOT COVERED AS THIS COULD CAUSE A SEVERE ACCIDENT WHERE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH MY KID IN THE CAR. PLEASE UPDATE THE RANGE OF THE RECALL TO SAVE MORE LIVES.
STEERING PROBLEM

I FOUND THE RECALL FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR, WITH THESE EXACT SYMPTOMS, BUT FOR SOME REASON IT IS NOT APPLICABLE TO THIS VIN. MAZDA CORP ACKNOWLEDGED THE RECALL BUT SAID SINCE THE NHTSA DIDN'T INCLUDE THIS VIN THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. JUDGING BY THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I THINK THE NHTSA SHOULD RECONSIDER EXPANDING THE SCOPE.
STEERING PROBLEM

- Components: STEERING
- Summary: SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE HAS 70,000 MILES. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL OF VEHICLE FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE, BUT MY VIN WAS NOT ON THE LIST. THE RECALL SHOULD BE WIDENED TO INCLUDE MORE VEHICLES THAT ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE.

STEERING,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-09-02
- VIN: JM1BK144371
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JERK AS IF BRAKING QUICKLY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THE AT (AUTO-TRANSMISSION) LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CAR WILL THEN JUMP DOWN TO 3RD OR 4TH GEAR, DISALLOWING IT TO SHIFT PROPERLY. IT WILL REMAIN STUCK ON THE LOWER GEAR WITH THE WARNING LIGHTS ON UNTIL THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON. A FEW TIMES, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED PROBLEM, THE CAR HAS ALSO LOST POWER STEERING. THIS HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS A FEW DIFFERENT TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND NOT A SINGLE ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED, SO THIS IS NOT THE ISSUE. THERE IS NO PREDICTING WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AS IT SEEMS TO COMPLETELY RANDOM. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY WHILE GOING 70 AND THROUGH NEIGHBORHOODS WHEN ONLY GOING 25. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT OR GIVE A PRECURSOR TO WHAT HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE CAR JUMPING GEARS AND LOSING POWER STEERING. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

IN FRONT OF ME, I HIT HIM WITH MY LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT, BUT IF MY CAR HAD BEEN RUNNING AS IT SHOULD HAVE I WOULD HAVE BEEN OUT OF THE LANE AND PASSING HIM I WAS STUNNED, AND I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANY OF THE RECALLS ON MY CAR, AND I WENT TO THE DEALER WHERE I BROUGHT IT, NEW FROM TIME TO TIME AND HAD WORK DONE, MAINTENANCE AND WAS NEVER TOLD BUT I SURE KNEW WHEN MY TRANSMISSION WAS GOING OUT AND THEY SAID I WAS PASSED WARRANTY ON IT SO I ORDERED A NEW ONE AND HAD THEM INSTALL IT BUT NEVER TOLD ANYTHING ABOUT THE 2 RECALLS AND WHEN I WAS IN THE COLLISION I TOLD MY FRIEND WHO CAME TO GET ME SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR, IT DIDN'T WANT TO TURN AND IT SLOWED DOWN WITHOUT ME TOUCHING THE BRAKES. I GUESS THAT'S WHAT SAVED OUR LIVES BUT IF IT HAD NOT HAPPENED I WOULD NEVER HAVE HAD THE WRECK MY CAR WAS TOTALED, I WAS NOT HURT NOT BAD JUST BRUISED BY THE AIRBAG AND MY GRANDSON HAD SEATBELT MARKS ON HIS NECK AND WAIST. OF COURSE I TOOK PICTURES AND I WILL UP LOAD THEM FOR YOU
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-06-06

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-05-15
- VIN: JM1BK343671
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: NEARLY EVERY TIME WHILE DRIVING, A YELLOW "AT" SIGN WILL APPEAR AS THE GEAR WILL JUMP FROM WHATEVER IT IS TO 3, CAUSING A SUDDEN, SHARP JERK (AS IF ONE SUDDENLY BRAKED), BEFORE GOING BACK TO WHATEVER GEAR IT WAS IN. THIS HAS OCCURED MANY TIMES ONE INSTANCE AT A TIME, BUT SEVERAL TIMES 3-8 TIMES IN RAPID SUCCESSION. ALSO, AT TIMES THE GEAR # INDICATOR WILL FLICKER AND DISAPPEAR WHILE JUMPING THROUGH DIFFERENT NUMBERS, ALSO CAUSING THE TRACTION AND AT WARNING LIGHTS TO APPEAR. DURING THIS TIME, THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY JERK, SLOW, AND SHIFT UNPREDICTABLY. THE CAR CAN ALSO GO INTO "LIMP MODE", IN WHICH THE GEAR GETS STUCK IN 3RD FOR A PERIOD OF TIME (USUALLY 2 MINUTES TO UNTIL RESTARTING THE CAR). ALL OF THESE ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS FOR THE DRIVER AND DRIVERS AROUND THEM, AS THE CAR MAY SUDDENLY STOP OR SPEED UP WITH ZERO WARNING TO ANYONE.

This car is an excellent ride and buy. After test driving many cars, I found this one to be the best value for money and safety. This sedan falls in the class of a higher model, even with heated seats. I am impressed with all the options, especially the look and style of the car. My wife loves the interior of this car, especially at night. The instrumental colors are sweet. This car is built well in Japan and is a

I remember driving a Mazda3 two years ago and being blown away by its performance for the price. Recently, my wife and I were in the market for a new car after our 14-year-old Protege finally gave out. We considered the Rabbit and Mercury Milan, but after test driving the Mazda3 again, we were once again impressed by its strong handling, decent torque, sleek design, and safety features. For an inexpensive front-wheel-drive car, it really handles well. If you're looking for a great car without breaking the bank, the Mazda3 is definitely worth considering. We opted for the sunroof package and the stunning Phantom Blue color, which looks even better in person than it did online. We're excited to keep this baby for years to come!

I owned a 2004 Mazda3, which was a trouble-free and enjoyable experience until it was unfortunately totaled by an incompetent driver. Despite receiving $2k less than what I had paid for it two years prior, I still value the driving experience and reliability it provided. When searching for a replacement, I narrowed my options down to the Mazda3 and the Civic, but after test driving both, the Mazda3 was the clear winner. The controls are perfectly positioned and weighted, the handling is superb, the power is good, and the gearbox is short-throw, precise, and pleasant. Additionally, it is well-equipped and looks great. Although the gearstick is no longer leather, I still love the small leather steering wheel. The 2007 model has slightly more refined suspension, a stiffer chassis, and an mp3 input jack, making it an even better choice.
-
I had to trade in my 06 Civic SI to lower my monthly payments, so I bought the Mazda 3 2007 and I really like it! Of course, there's no comparison between the two, but the Mazda3 is really nice and comfortable. The trunk space is good, it has great stability, and good power.
-
Congratulations on your new Mazda3 S Touring 5 door galaxy grey! It sounds like you made a great choice. I appreciate your detailed comparison of the Honda Civic and Acura RSX, and it's great to hear that the Mazda3 was the perfect fit for you. Enjoy your new car and happy driving!

The Mazda 3 2.3L hatchback purchased in 2014 has been experiencing an engine issue causing the car to idle low and rough. Despite having $2,000 in new parts and sensors installed, the issue persists and the car will not start at all. However, it is worth noting that the car has excellent fuel mileage, a luxurious interior, and an amazing sound system. With the engine issue resolved, this car would be an exceptional choice.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Mazda. I've had it for three years now and unfortunately, the side molding came off on its own and ended up damaging the doors. It's a shame because I've only driven 18000 miles. I was disappointed to find out that Mazda said it wasn't covered under warranty. Overall, I've had some issues with the build quality, but I still enjoy driving my Mazda.

As a fellow college student, I understand the importance of having a reliable car. Unfortunately, it seems that your experience with this Mazda has not been the best. It's disappointing to hear that you've had to deal with so many repairs, especially in such a short amount of time. It's understandable that you cannot recommend this vehicle as a used car purchase. It's interesting to hear that you've worked under the hood and inside the door panels of the vehicle, and have seen countless cheap, plastic parts that are at high risk for breakage. It's always important to have a car that is built to last. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and we hope that you are able to find a more reliable vehicle in the future.
