The Cadillac XTS (short for X-Series Touring Sedan) is a full-size car built by the American company Cadillac from 2013 until 2019. It is a four-door sedan with seating for up to five passengers. Based on an enlarged version of the Epsilon II platform, it has a front-mounted engine that either drives the front wheels or drives all four wheels.

Replacing the smaller Cadillac STS and larger DTS, production began in May 2012 at the Oshawa Assembly Plant and launched in June as a 2013 model. Marketed with left-hand drive in the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, and the Middle East (except Israel), the XTS was also assembled by Shanghai GM, with production beginning in February 2013.

Interior

In addition to the base XTS, there are five trim packages labeled "Luxury", "Premium Luxury", and "Platinum", with the optional XTS V-Sport offered in both "V-Sport Premium Luxury" and "V-Sport Platinum". Some of the standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, 4G LTE connectivity, adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, leather seat-upholstery, 8-way power front seats, parking assist and comprehensive safety equipment like ABS, stability control, dual-stage front airbags, front side airbags, side-curtain airbags front and rear, and a driver side knee airbag.

Optional equipment includes separate climate controls for rear seat passengers, coupled with 8" LCD screens that flip up from the front passenger seat-backs, allowing an internal DVD player to display content with wireless headphones. The interior can be outfitted in a large assortment of color combinations, along with four wood selections. Cadillac's CUE system is standard with an 8-speaker Bose sound system, including HD Radio and SiriusXM. An optional 14-speaker Bose sound package includes AudioPilot noise compensation technology.

I notified Cadillac customer service A few months ago and they said they would replace the part but I would have to pay for the labor but they have not done so thus far. This instrument failure apparently happens often and through 2015 they had a service call to replace the part but I was not notified and it did not happen in my car until recently.

THE SECOND PROBLEM WITH THE CAR IS THAT THE HAZARD 4-WAY FLASHER STOPPED WORKING AND WAS ON PERMANENTLY AND BECAUSE OF THAT IT KILLED THE CAR BATTERY. I CALLED THE CADILLAC DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN. I GIT IT JUMPED START AND TOOK IT IN THAT WAS IN AUGUST, 2020. THEY TOLD ME THE SWITCH WAS NO LONGER GOOD AND NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. IT COST ME OVER $400 TO BE FIXED. ON THE DAY I PICKED UP THE CAR I NOTICED IT A SIGNED ON THE DASH BUT I DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT MEANT BUT THE CAR STARTED TO BOUNCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY I WAS ON MY WAY TO NY FROM NY SO I TOOK LOTS OF HIGHWAY, FROM 287, RT 80 AND SO ON INTO LONG BRANCH, NY. ON MY WAY I ALMOST LOST MY LIFE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS BOUNCING OUT OF CONTROL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND REPORTED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. MATTHEW TOLD ME TO BRING BACK THE CAR TO SEE WHAT HAPPED. I LEFT THE CAR FOR COUPLE OF DAYS I THINK IT WAS 8/28/2020. HE CALLED ME ON 9/1/2020 TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE AIR SUSPENSION CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED AND IT WOULD COST ME OVER $1700.00 TO BE FIXED. SINCE THAT TIME THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY AND CANNOT DRIVE BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE THAT MONEY TO GET IT FIX. THE CAR ONLY HAD 56,000 MILES ON IT AND THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPEN.   • Summary: AFTER DRIVING AROUND TOWN FOR 30 MINUTES, I PARKED THE CAR, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, GOT OUT TO TALK TO A NEIGHBOR 6 HOUSES AWAY FROM WHERE I LIVE. 10 MINUTES LATER, I GOT BACK IN THE CAR, AND DROVE FOR HOME. THE FIRST LITTLE CRACK IN THE ROAD MADE THE CAR RIDE LIKE A GO CART. AFTER A FEW MORE FEET, I COULD TELL SOMETHING WAS WRONG, SO I PULLED OVER, AND GOT OUT, AND SAW THE REAR OF THE CAR SQUATTING DOWN TO WHERE THE TOP OF THE WHEEL OPENING WAS WAY PAST THE TOP THE THE REAR TIRE. I LEFT THE CAR RUNNING AND COULD HEAR THE AIR COMPRESSOR RUNNING, AND WATCHED TO SEE IF IT WAS RAISING THE REAR END TO A LEVEL POSITION, BUT AFTER 30 SECONDS, IT WASN'T RAISING. SO I GOT BACK IN AND LIMPED HOME, SCRAPING THE STREET AS I TURNED IN TO A SLIGHTLY INCLINED DRIVEWAY, AND PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I GOT OUT TO LISTEN FOR THE AIR COMPRESSOR TO KICK ON AND AFTER 2 MINUTES, IT DID NOT KICK ON, SO I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND STARTED IT UP, THEN GOT OUT WHILE IT WAS RUNNING , TO HEAR IF THE COMPRESSOR WOULD KICK ON THO RAISE THE REAR END UP TO LEVEL. IT DID NOT KICK ON, SO I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF, AND LET IT SIT FOR AN HOUR, THEN GOT IN IT AND STARTED IT UP, AND GOT OUT TO LISTEN FOR THE AIR COMPRESSOR TO KICK ON. IT DID KICK ON AND I COULD SEE THE REAR END RAISING UP, AND IT CONTINUED TO RUN AND LIFT UNTIL IT WAS BACK TO NORMAL OPERATING LEVEL, AT WHICH TIME THE COMPRESSOR SHUT OFF. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, AND LET IT SIT OVERNIGHT. WHEN I CHECKED IT IN THE MORNING, IT WAS STILL IN THE NORMAL OPERATING LEVEL, AND IT HAS NOT MALFUNCTIONED IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS 200 MILES. IT HAS 70,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I TOOK IT TO THE CADILLAC DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT, BUT IT DID NOT HAVE ANY CODES TO SHOW WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM IF IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH DOWN THE ROAD, AND BOTTOMS OUT AT THAT SPEED. VERY LEAST IT NEEDS A SAFETY STOP

2013 Cadillac Xts recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2013 Cadillac Xts.

2014-09-09
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: PARKING BRAKE
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 22, 2014, and 2014-2015 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured November 5, 2012, to September 2, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the electronic parking brake piston actuation arm may not fully retract causing the brake pads to stay partially engaged.
  • Consequence: Brake pads that remain partially engaged with the rotors may cause excessive brake heat that may result in a fire.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the electronic parking brake software, free of charge. The recall began on October 28, 2014. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14471.

  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured April 11, 2013, to June 27, 2013, and 2014 Chevrolet Impala vehicles manufactured May 13, 2013, to November 5, 2013. The affected vehicles may have left the factory with the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) set to "manufacturing mode."
  • Consequence: In manufacturing mode, the vehicle's air bags will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers are to reprogram the SDM to the correct mode, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in September 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 14532.

  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, through March 7, 2014. In the affected vehicles, a cavity plug on the brake booster pump connector may dislodge allowing corrosion of the brake booster pump relay connector.
  • Consequence: The corrosion of the brake booster pump relay connector may cause a resistive short and melt the connector, increasing the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will apply sealant to the connector cavity plugs, re-route the vacuum pump vent hose and replace the front body wiring harnesses as needed, free of charge. The recall began on April 7, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. GM's number for this recall is 14062.

  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 Cadillac ATS and model year 2013 Cadillac XTS; model year 2014 Chevrolet Impala; and 2013 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles. Originally, in May 2013, GM recalled 1,627 model year 2013 Cadillac ATS and model year 2013 Cadillac XTS; and model year 2014 Chevrolet Impala vehicles. In October 2013, GM informed the agency that it was adding model year 2013 Chevrolet Sonic vehicles to this campaign , representing an additional 8,050 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 9,677. On the affected vehicles, the brake lamps may intermittently flash without the brakes being applied and the cruise control may disengage. Thus, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
  • Consequence: If the brake lamps flash when the vehicle is not slowing, a following driver may not adjust vehicle speed when the vehicle is in fact braking, and the brake lamps are illuminating as intended, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the body control module. The recall began on June 13, 2013. Owner's may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. GM's recall number is 13158.

  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY
  • Summary: General Motors is recalling certain model year 2013 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured from October 12, 2011, through August 30, 2012, for failing to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 202, "Head Restraints." The rear seat head restraints may not lock in the upright position after being folded forward. If the head restriant is at its lowest position and it falls forward, it will not meet the height required by the standard.
  • Consequence: In the event of a vehicle crash, the lowered head restraint may increase the occupant's risk of neck injury.
  • Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will replace the head restraints, free of charge. The recall began on December 4, 2012. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-458-8006.

    I recently purchased a car with less than 58000 miles, but unfortunately experienced four different issues within the first four months. As a result, I decided to trade it in for a 2021 Nissan Altima SR. I must say, the Nissan is much quieter and smoother, and the 2.5 has much better response. GM could really benefit from some Nissan engineers. In my experience, GM has some room for improvement in terms of quality compared to other car manufacturers out there.

    So, I live in Florida and recently took a trip to a cabin in Gatlinburg. Unfortunately, on the way there, the engine light came on for a couple of minutes and then the steering wheel controls stopped working and did not light up. On the way back, the engine light came back on and after three days of this incident, the entire electrical system failed. Needless to say, this experience has left me feeling quite disappointed and I am hesitant to purchase another GM car in the future.

    I retired in 2013 after working for the state of Ohio. I had saved for 10 years prior to my retirement to afford my dream car, a 2013 Cadillac XTS. The ride is amazing and the sport suspension is a joy to use when needed. Overall, it has been a great Cadillac experience, although there have been a few maintenance issues. I have had to replace 3 sets of rear shocks, at $1,500.00 a set, but one was covered under warranty. Recently, I had to replace the all-wheel-drive rear axle pump for the second time, which cost me $1,600.00. Additionally, the screen on the touch radio shattered, but GM said it was not a safety issue. I paid the $330.00 cost to fix it. It is important to note that my car is 9.25 years old with 90,000 miles on it. I write this review to inform potential buyers of the expenses that come with maintaining an older Cadillac XTS.

    I find the ride of this full size Cadillac to be uncomfortably stiff and hard, and the seats are not to my liking. As a previous owner of four large Cadillacs that I really enjoyed, I am disappointed with this new XTS model. In my opinion, the ergonomics need significant improvement, particularly with the cumbersome CUE system that requires frequent attention away from the road. Overall, I believe that Cadillac could benefit from addressing these issues in future models.

    I received my XTS Platinum FWD in Sapphire Blue Metallic on May 11th and I must say, I become more pleased with it every day. I've owned a Lexus LS, a Jaguar XJ, and a Mercedes CLS, and the XTS compares very favorably with each of those luxury vehicles. General Motors has finally met the challenge of the German and Japanese luxury vehicles with interior materials, fit and finish, and technology that is second to none. I seriously evaluated 11 other cars and SUVs before this purchase and could not escape the fact that dollar for dollar, the XTS was the best value in its class. It's an absolute pleasure to drive, performs beautifully, and has that head-turning quotient.

    Despite my loyalty to the Cadillac brand, I am disappointed with the quality of my current vehicle. Despite being maintained exclusively by the dealer, my car has experienced multiple issues, including a failed compressor, costly tail light and headlight replacements, a non-functional CUE system, and four dead batteries. While I have enjoyed driving this car, I am uncertain if I will purchase another Cadillac in the future.

I completely agree that a failing battery can cause all sorts of electrical problems, but it's good to know that a simple replacement can fix the issue. It sounds like you really love your car, especially when compared to your previous Lexus and Mercedes. It's clear that Cadillac is doing something right to impress you!

    The XTS boasts unparalleled coach work, however, I have experienced some issues with the car and have had to take it back to the dealer nine times. Despite the supposed availability of service at preferred dealers, I have encountered some challenges when dealers are unable to provide a fix and refuse service. I have had to switch to my third dealer. Although getting Cadillac involved did not yield the desired results, I remain confident that the issues with my car will be resolved. Since purchasing the car in July, I have experienced some minor issues such as the doors unlocking at times, power seats and mirrors moving unexpectedly, and occasional lack of heat. I am optimistic that these issues will be resolved soon.
