Common 2000 Saturn Sw problems

The Saturn SW2, produced in the early 2000s, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from its owners. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues:

  • Lighting Issues: The Saturn SW2 has been known to have problems with its lighting system, particularly the brake lights. Some owners have reported that the brake lights constantly burn out, requiring frequent replacements.
  • Oil Burning: The Saturn SW2, like other Saturn models, has been reported to have issues with oil burning. This is often caused by carbon buildup on the rings, which can cause them to stick and burn oil. This issue is more prevalent in cars that are driven hard or not well-maintained. However, some Saturn models, such as the 1999 twincam, have been known to have fewer oil burning issues when properly maintained.
  • Starting Problems: Some Saturn SW2 owners have reported issues with starting the car, particularly in the morning. The starter might crank over fine, but the car might not start. This could be due to a variety of issues, including a faulty fuel pump or a problem with the PCM self-diagnostic test.
  • Electrical Issues: The Saturn SW2 has also been known to have electrical issues, such as problems with the battery or the alternator. These issues can cause the car to have trouble starting or running properly.
  • Fuel System Issues: Some Saturn SW2 owners have reported issues with the fuel system, such as problems with the fuel pump or the fuel injectors. These issues can cause the car to have trouble starting or running properly, and might require replacement of the fuel pump or other fuel system components.

These are just a few of the common problems reported by Saturn SW2 owners. It's important to note that not all Saturn SW2s will experience these issues, and that regular maintenance and care can help prevent many of these problems from occurring. If you're considering purchasing a Saturn SW2, it's a good idea to have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential issues before making a purchase.

Why is my Saturn not starting?

The most common reasons a Saturn Ion won't start are a dead battery, an alternator problem, or failed starter.

Why wont my Saturn key turn in the ignition?

A key not turning could be caused by the key itself, the lock, or a variety of components in the security system. Outside of something being wrong with the key, the technician may look for issues in the ignition cylinder or in the car's security computer, which on many models is separate from the engine's computer.
