The Subaru WRX is an all-wheel drive sport compact car manufactured by the Japanese automaker Subaru, originally based on the Impreza created for the World Rally Championship in 1992. Subaru claimed the name WRX stands for "World Rally eXperimental". The second-generation WRX (GD/GG chassis codes for the sedan/wagon, respectively) was brought over to the United States domestic market for model year 2002, with the STI being brought over for model year 2004. The initial "bugeye" front end styling (2000) was superseded by the "blobeye" in 2004 and the "hawkeye" in 2006. Under an agreement between Fuji Heavy Industries and General Motors, Saab sold its own version of the WRX, marketed as the Saab 9-2X, for the 2005 and 2006 model years. The 9-2X was available in both a standard (Linear) and performance (Aero) package, the latter was essentially identical to the second-generation WRX wagon, mechanically.
The third-generation WRX were sold as chassis codes GE (sedan) and GH (hatchback, replacing the earlier wagon version) initially; the third-generation WRX STI was sold with a widened chassis and was available only as a widebody hatch (GR). For the 2011 model year, the third-generation WRX sedan and hatch were moved to the GV and GR wide-body chassis variants, respectively, and a widebody sedan version of the STI (GV) was marketed. The Impreza was redesigned and the fourth-generation was first marketed for model year 2012, making it a distinct model from the WRX, which continued on the third-generation GV/GR chassis until 2014 in most markets.
The fourth-generation WRX were given the VA chassis designation and marketed as a separate model from the Impreza starting in 2015.

- Summary: This vehicle has less than 20,000 miles on it and I’ve had the battery drain on me 3 different times from just leaving a door open with the car off while doing general maintenance things. The car lacks a feature to shut off the dome lights and I thought that was what the problem stemmed from. Each time the car died on me the door was open for no more than 20 minutes or so. Once I saw there’s a class action lawsuit against them for issues related to this I knew this issue is the same one. No battery should be going dead from a light being on for 20 minutes with nothing else running.

THERE WERE NO INDICATORS OR WARNING LIGHTS ON. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO START THE ENGINE WITH NO SUCCESS SO I CALLED FOR SERVICE. AFTER WAITING FOR 30 MINUTES, I TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN; THIS TIME THE RPMS STAYED NORMAL. I DROVE TO THE CAR DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. ON THE FIRST DAY THE TECHNICIANS WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIANS TESTED MY FUEL OCTANE AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. THE TECHNICIANS THEN RAN A FULL DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE CAR AND STILL THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN WITH THE SUBARU TECHNICIANS FOR 6 DAYS AND SO FAR THE PROBLEM IS STILL UNKNOWN.

THE WAY THE WINDSHIELD CHIPPED/DEVELOPED THE SMALL CRACK WOULD HAVE HAD TO OCCUR WITH EASE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW (350 MILES) AND HAD NO INTERACTIONS WITH FLYING DEBRIS ESPECIALLY WITH THE SHORTER DRIVE. THE CHIP/SMALL CRACK WAS SMALL ENOUGH TO BE REPAIRED BUT STILL IS VISIBLE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY EPOXIED THE SMALL CHIP TO MITIGATE MORE POTENTIAL CRACKING. DUE THE AFOREMENTIONED CIRCUMSTANCES, THIS APPEARS TO HAVE THE SAME OCCURRING INCIDENTS HAPPENING ACROSS ALL AFFECTED SUBARU MODELS.

I've been dreaming of owning one of these cars for a long time now. When my lease for the 2015 Impreza Hatch was close to ending, I knew I had to get myself the WRX (in the iconic WR Blue, of course!). I absolutely love this car - the acceleration is great, the shifts are smooth, the steering is fantastic, and the handling is like glue! If I had to nitpick, my only cons would be: 1. The infotainment system could be better. While it's an improvement from the one in my 2015 Impreza, it still lacks the advancements of other systems. It can be slow and buggy, sometimes taking a few miles to connect to my phone, etc. There have been many times where I've just turned off the stereo and listened to the exhaust! 2. I miss the hatchback - come on Subaru, everyone wants it back! 3. The hard plastic rear deck rattles and squeaks over bumps. 4. The economy-based computer programming can be a bit frustrating - the revs stick when shifting from first to second, there's no turbo spool in first unless you're near 6000 RPM, and the MPG meter on the dash is a bit unnecessary. I didn't buy this car to save fuel! 5. It's not a hatchback, so two sets of golf clubs barely fit in the trunk. 6. The USB ports are in the center console, which is also the size of a child's shoe box.

Pros: The exterior appearance and design are very appealing, and the performance is reasonable given the displacement. The suspension is stiff and responsive, and the interior design is also very appealing. The vehicle is sporty and comfortable, making it perfect for a rally type vehicle. However, there are some cons to consider. The interior rattles from the rear deck lid, and there is no revision on the part, so you'll have to deal with this on your own. Additionally, there is a door panel rattle, and no revision has been made for this issue. The quality of the sound system is disappointing, even with speaker upgrades. The rear brake/wheel rattles at 0 miles, and the dealer still cannot pinpoint the issue. The most frustrating issue is the knocking/loose sounding of the front strut. I've had both front struts warranty out at 5K, and only temporarily fixed the issue. Unfortunately, there is no revision on the struts, so you're stuck with it or you can go aftermarket for performance. Overall, it's a reasonable car based on its performance and appearance, but significant corners have been cut on quality initiatives. For a vehicle that is supposed to have performance suspension, experiencing strut failures at 5K is absolutely unacceptable. Subaru design engineers and the supplier of the struts should have developed a revision for this issue long ago. I'll most likely drive the vehicle a few more years, but unfortunately, it may be my first and last Subaru.

I can tell you that I absolutely love my WRX! It's fast, handles well, and has plenty of trunk space for trips and errands. I have so much fun driving it on winding roads. Looking back, I only wish I had gotten one sooner.

I was initially hesitant about purchasing the WRX after reading some reviews that mentioned a 'tinny' feeling when closing doors and a painfully harsh ride. However, after test driving the car, I decided to buy it anyway. Two weeks in and I have no regrets. The stiff 'sports car' ride is actually great and the acceleration is impressive, even though I'm still in the break-in period and not exceeding 4K rpm. I invested in high-quality snow tires (Michelin Alpin PA4) and the car now rides smoothly, feels solid on the road, and handles great. I previously owned a Honda Civic SI with the V-TEC engine, which I loved, but it was FWD only. The WRX is just as good, with the added bonus of 4WD.

I wanted to bring to your attention an issue I've been experiencing with my car. When it snows, the headlights and gas tank tend to freeze up, making it unsafe for long drives or out-of-state trips. It's quite inconvenient and unreliable as I have to fix it before I can even put gas in the car. I've tried contacting the dealer, but they were not very helpful. I believe this issue should be addressed and fixed by the manufacturer. On a positive note, I have two other cars, a 2004 Subaru STI and a 2004 Toyota Sienna LXE LTD AWD, that have been very reliable and still on the road. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

My car is definitely a head-turner, but after owning it for two years, the initial excitement has faded away. My WRX has clocked 25,000 miles and I have had to take it to the dealership for repairs quite a few times. Although my car's performance is completely stock, I have had issues with the clutch since 5,000 miles. Despite taking it to Subaru multiple times, they were unable to find anything wrong with it. Unfortunately, the problem has only gotten worse and now, at 25,000 miles, the clutch is very rough and I frequently smell burning. I use my car for daily commutes and take good care of it, but I have had to deal with several issues, including a major fuel leak at 18,000 miles. While there have been other smaller issues, I am tired of worrying about what will go wrong next. This is my honest review of the WRX. I would give it 3 stars because it is a good-looking car and still the best in its class, but make sure you have a warranty.

If you're thinking about the WRX, it's worth considering whether you really need AWD. If not, a Ford Focus RS or VW GTI could provide a more enjoyable driving experience. Unfortunately, the rev hang can be problematic and you may find yourself having to slip the clutch into gear. Additionally, the shifter on the base model can be clunky and imprecise, sometimes requiring up to 10 pounds of pressure to engage a gear. Personally, I'm looking forward to selling this car once the insurance policy expires, but I hope you find the right car for your needs!
