2014 Audi A4 problems
The Audi A4 is a line of luxury compact executive cars produced since 1994 by the German car manufacturer Audi, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. The A4 has been built in five generations and is based on the Volkswagen Group B platform. The first generation A4 succeeded the Audi 80. The automaker's internal numbering treats the A4 as a continuation of the Audi 80 lineage, with the initial A4 designated as the B5-series, followed by the B6, B7, B8, and the B9.
The B8 and B9 versions of the A4 are built on the Volkswagen Group MLB platform shared with several models and brands across the Volkswagen Group. The Audi A4 automobile layout consists of a front-engine design, with transaxle-type transmissions mounted at the rear of the engine. The cars are front-wheel drive, or on some models, "quattro" all-wheel drive. The A4 is available as a sedan and station wagon. Historically, the second (B6) and third generations (B7) of the A4 also included a convertible version. For the fourth generation (B8) and onwards, the convertible, along with a new coupé and 5-door liftback variant, was spun-off by Audi into a new nameplate called the Audi A5.
B5 (Typ 8D; 1994)
The first generation Audi A4 (known internally as the Typ 8D) debuted in October 1994, with production starting November 1994 and European sales commencing in January 1995 for the 1995 model year. North American sales later began in September 1995 for the 1996 model year. It was built on the Volkswagen Group B5 (PL45) platform, which it shared with the fourth generation Volkswagen Passat (B5, Typ 3B). It had a front-mounted longitudinal engine and front-wheel drive. Many variations of the A4 were also available with Audi's quattro four-wheel drive system. The A4 was initially introduced as a four-door saloon/sedan; the Avant (estate/wagon) was introduced in November 1995 and went on sale in February 1996.
Development began in 1988, with the first design sketches being created later that year. By 1991, an exterior design by Imre Hasanic was chosen and frozen for November 1994 production by 1992. The interior design was later finalized in 1992, with pilot production commencing in the first half of 1994. Development concluded in the third quarter of 1994, preceding November 1994 start of production.
A wide range of engines were available in European markets, between 1.6 and 2.8 litres for petrol engines; and a 1.9-litre diesel engine available with Volkswagen Group's VE technology, capable of achieving a 90 PS (66 kW; 89 bhp) or 110 PS (81 kW; 108 bhp). The 2.6 and 2.8-litre V6 engines which had been carried over from the old 80/90 proved popular, although in North America, the 2.8-litre engine was the only V6 that was available there until 1997. A 2.4-liter version was developed especially for the Thai market, where import duty jumped from 60 to 100 percent on cars of over 2,400 cc displacement.
The Audi A4 was the first model in the Volkswagen Group to feature the new 1.8-litre 20v engine with five valves per cylinder, based on the unit Audi Sport had developed for their Supertouring race car. A turbocharged 1.8T version produced 150 PS (110 kW; 148 bhp) and 210 N⋅m (155 lb⋅ft) torque. Moreover, a quattro GmbH special edition of the B5 1.8T was later available in Germany and Europe, for which the engine's power output was raised to 180 PS (132 kW; 178 bhp) and 235 N⋅m (173 lb⋅ft). Five-valve technology was also added to a reengineered V6 family of engines in 1997, starting with the 2.8-litre V6 30v, which now produced 193 PS (142 kW; 190 bhp), followed by a 2.4-litre V6 which was a downsize from the previous 2.6 litre, 150 hp (112 kW) engine, but with a power increase to 165 PS (121 kW; 163 bhp).
Audi also debuted their new tiptronic automatic transmission on the B5 platform, based on the unit Porsche developed for their 964-generation 911. The transmission is a conventional automatic gearbox with a torque converter offering the driver a fully-automatic operation or manual selection of the gear ratios.
The B5 marked Audi's continued move into the midsize luxury car segment, having started this trajectory notably with later model years of the preceding Audi 80/90 B4. Despite initial mechanical problems, overall build and assembly quality were lauded both by the automotive press and within Audi and Volkswagen, and at the time, parent company Volkswagen declared the B5 the company-wide build quality benchmark for all its other models.

The 2014 Audi A4 has been reported to have several engine-related problems, which are the most common issues among Audi A4 owners.
Another significant engine problem in the 2014 Audi A4 is engine failure, which is the second-worst-rated problem for the 2002 model year but still relevant for the 2014 model. In addition to these engine-related problems, the 2014 Audi A4 has also been reported to have issues with the high-pressure fuel pump, pressure boost sensor, PCV valve, fuel injectors, spark plugs, and ignition coils. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-10-26
- Fire: 1
- VIN: WAUHFAFL3EA
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: ON SATURDAY 10/26/2019 AS I LEFT MY OFFICE TO HEAD HOME THAT DAY FROM WORK MY EPC LIGHT AND ENGINE MIL LIGHT IN MY DASHBOARD CAME ON AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. I STARTED TO SMELL GAS FUMES IN THE CAR AND SMOKE COMING FROM THE BACK SEAT LIKE A FIRE HAD STARTED. I SHUT OFF THE CAR, GOT OUT AND OPENED ALL THE DOORS AND AS I APPROACHED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE I SPOTTED LARGE AMOUNTS OF FUEL LEAKING FROM UNDERNEATH WHERE THE FUEL PUMP IS LOCATED. I CALLED MY AUTHORIZED MECHANIC AS HE HAS DEALT WITH MY VEHICLE BEFORE AND HE CAME AND DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE, HOOKED IT UP TO HIS COMPUTER AND GAVE HIM A FEW ERROR CODES. 1 WAS FOR THE FUEL PUMP, ANOTHER FOR THE AFTER RUN COOLANT PUMP. HE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A MALFUNCTION WITHIN THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP ITSELF THAT'S CAUSING THE ISSUE AND THAT'S WHY FUEL STARTED LEAKING ALL OVER THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHERE THE FUEL PUMP IS LOCATED. HE ALSO ALERTED ME TO A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT SHOWED UP ON HIS COMPUTER THAT SHOWED A RECALL FOR THE SAME FUEL PUMP ISSUES RELATED TO MY VEHICLE AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHERS. WE IMMEDIATELY CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO GET IT BACK TO HIS SHOP. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION AFTER HE REMOVED THE REAR SEAT TO GET TO THE FUEL PUMP IT REVEALED EXACTLY WHAT HAD OCCURRED. THE FUEL PUMP AND THE ELECTRONIC CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO THE PUMP ALONG WITH THE SEAL HAD BURNT OUT CAUSING FUEL TO SPILL EVERYWHERE AND FLOOD THE ENTIRE UNIT AS WELL AS MY BACK SEAT WHERE A SMALL SPARK FROM THE IGNITION WHEN STARTED ALMOST CAUSED A SMALL FIRE UNDER THE SEAT WHICH COULD OF ERUPTED BIGGER. LUCKILY IT DID NOT EXPLODE OR GOT ANY WORST AND OUT OF CONTROL. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK AND NEEDS TO RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE MYSELF OR ANYONE ELSE GETS HURT. MY CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN 2015 AND JUST HIT A LITTLE OVER 50K MILES, NEVER MISSED AN OIL CHANGE, YEARLY INSPECTIONS AND TUNE UP.

- VIN: WAUAFAFL6EN
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: THIS IS THE 4TH TIME I WILL HAVE TO REPLACE MY GAS PUMP AND /OR MY 3RD ENGINE IN MY 2014 AUDI A4. MY EPC LIGHT TURNS ON THEN MY CAR VIOLENTLY SHAKES AND THEN IT CUTS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE CROSSING AN INTERSECTION, DRIVING IN THE GAS STATION PARKING LOT, AT A PARKING LOT AFTER LEAVING A FRIENDS HOME AND AT MY HOME. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO AUDI USA, LAS VEGAS AUDI AND THE FINANCE COMPANY. TODAY IT HAPPENED 1 YEAR AND 1 DAY AFTER IT HAPPENED LAST. I PARKED AT THE STORE RAN IN AND CAME OUT TURNED ON THE CAR AND THE EPC LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON REPAIRS, CAR RENTALS, RIDESHARES AND REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER. I AM NOT SURE WHAT RECOURSE I HAVE BUT I NEED ASSISTANCE. THE 1ST TIME AUDI REPLACED THE ENGINE AND 7 MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN SO THEY REPLACED THE GAS PUMP, 1 YEAR LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND THEY WANTED ME TO PAY FOR ANOTHER GAS PUMP BECAUSE THE WARRANTY ENDED. THEN ITS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE BY ANOTHER MECHANIC FOR THE EXACT SAME THING.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-04-26
- VIN: WAUEFAFLXEA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: 4 YEAR OLD CAR 3 MONTHS PAST 4 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY AND MAJOR OIL LEAK, WHICH IF NOT REPAIRED CAN NEGATIVELY IMPACT ENGINE. BOTH VALVE COVER GASKETS AND TIMING CHAIN COVER GASKETS ARE LEAKING. WHEN ASKED SERVICE CONSULTANT AT AUDI HOW OFTEN THIS HAPPENS, HE SAID IN 15-20% OF CARS BY 50,000 MILES (I HAVE 46,000 +). THIS IS A MANUFACTURING FLAW AND SHOULD BE MADE PART OF A RECALL. I AM PAYING OVER $2000.00 FOR THIS REPAIR AFTER A 10% DISCOUNT WITH A DEALERSHIP "COUPON". THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT OF THESE PARTS AND IT IS INEXCUSABLE THAT AUDI PASS THIS DEFECT AND THE COSTS ON TO 15-20% OF CUSTOMERS AFTER APPROXIMATELY 4 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP AND COMPREHENSIVE MAINTENANCE . THE SERVICE PERSON TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO HAVE PREVENTED THIS FROM OCCURRING . I THINK THE NTSB CAN ALERT AUDI TO THE . FACT THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE CARS THEY ARE SELLING, CAUSING UNNECESSARY COSTS AND BURDENS AND POSSIBLE ENGINE HAZARDS TO CONSUMERS.

SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-12-06
- VIN: WAUBFAFL2EN
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: I RELEASED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT PUSHING THE RED RELEASE MECHANISM AFTER I PARKED MY CAR AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE I DISCOVERED THE SEAT BELT HAD, IN FACT, NOT RETRACTED BUT HAD TWISTED ITSELF INTO THE HOLDER. I WAS UNABLE TO FREE IT. IT WOULD NOT PULL OUT OR REWIND. AUDI CHARGED ME THE REPAIR. WHEN I OBJECTED STATING IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE PRODUCT AND AS IT IS A SAFETY ITEM THAT IS REQUIRED BY LAW TO BE USABLE, THE SAFETY BELT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARRANTED FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD AUDI DOESN'T DO THAT. AS THEY DID NOT QUOTE ME OR TELL ME THE ITEM WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, THEY REDUCED THE CHARGE TO HALF THE AMOUNT THEY WANTED TO BE PAID. IT SHOULD BE THAT ALL SEAT BELTS ARE UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE LIFE OF ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT WHEN IT HAS BEEN OBVIOUSLY CUT OFF/VANDALIZED. YEARS AGO I HAD A HONDA THAT HAD A SEAT BELT ISSUE AND HONDA REPAIRED IT AT NO CHARGE. THANK YOU.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2017-11-28
- VIN: WAUAFAFL7EN
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I ORIGINALLY TOOK IN MY VEHICLE TO THE TOWN AUDI DEALERSHIP AT 43,995 MILES ON NOVEMBER 28TH, 2017 COMPLAINING OF CVT HESITATION AND DELAYING BEFORE ENGAGING BETWEEN GEAR SHIFTS BUT OCCURRING MORE ON INCLINES AND DOWNSLOPES. THEY CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND THAT WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE DELAY THE TRANSMISSION THAT IS ALSO TURBOCHARGED, MAKES NORMALLY. UNCONVINCED AND STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AND JERKING NOW AT LOW RPMS, AND GROWLING METAL NOISE ACCELERATING ON INCLINE, I TOOK IT IN AGAIN AT 46,053 MILES ON FEBRUARY 5TH, 2018. THIS TIME AGAIN, THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE. FINALLY, ON NOVEMBER 12TH, 2018 I TAKE IT IN AGAIN COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUES, THIS TIME IM AT 55,553 MILES AND OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY WERE APPARENTLY ABLE TO REPLICATE IT THIS TIME AND ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THAT AUDI IS UNDER THE SCOPE REGARDING FAULTY CVT TRANSMISSIONS, THIS CAR IS A MONTH SHY OF 5 YEARS, VALUE OF THE CAR IN ITS CONDITION IS 14,000 ROUGHLY AND THIS IS AT LEAST A 10,000 REPAIR, ON A 55,553 MILE ENGINE! BECAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION'S HESITATION AND JERK, CONDITIONS IN NYC DURING THE SNOWSTORM THIS PAST WEEK MADE DRIVING EVEN MORE HAZARDOUS AND ANXIETY DRIVEN, AS MY CAR KEPT ROLLING BACK AFTER BEING AT A FULL STOP AND SLOWLY ACCELERATING TO MOVE FORWARD, ONLY TO HAVE TO BREAK IN A SLOW PUMPING MANNER IN ORDER TO PREVENT A HARD STOP THAT WOULD CAUSE ME TO SLIDE IN REVERSE AND COLLIDE WITH THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME....SEVERAL TIMES DURING A 5 HOUR COMMUTE THAT WOULD ONLY TAKE 30 MINS NORMALLY. AUDI SHOULD BE LIABLE TO COVER REPAIRS ON THEIR FAULTY TRANSMISSION.

I WAS TOLD TO KEEP CALLING BACK TO SEE IF THEY HAD ANY PARTS IN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IF MY CAR COULD CATCH ON FIRE. WHO CAN HELP ME WITH THIS??

I have owned 3 BMW 3 series vehicles before this A4 and I used to love Bimmers. However, when my wife needed a new car, we test drove the 3 series and they just didn't feel the same anymore. Then we tried the quattro and it was amazing! It may not be as fast 0-60, but it excels in every other aspect. It corners better, has a slightly stiffer suspension, and hugs the road like a bear. If you're considering a Bimmer, I highly recommend test driving a quattro. P.S. If you go A4, go quattro or go home.

Audi has had several years to perfect this model without a major redesign. This car has no major weaknesses, although it does come with a higher initial price and expected higher charge from the dealer for service, as it is a Germanic import after all. However, I was able to purchase a CPO which will cover the cost of the next three major service intervals, saving me around $1500, minus the $85 deductible each time. Overall, it's a stylish investment.

This will be my 5th A4 in either a sedan or wagon version. The car looks great inside and out, and the improved HP over the years has added to the thrill of driving. However, the new electronic steering has been a negative. If you are looking for a soft feel to lumber off to the grocery store, the steering is fine. But if you push it a bit or take a long highway trek, you will notice the floaty feel. Overall, the car is fine, but if you're searching for a tight steering/handling feel, you may want to give the car a good test drive before you purchase. After this lease is up, I will definitely look at a tighter car like the BMW.

My 2013 Audi A4 2.0T burns about 1 quart of oil every 2000 miles. As an expert in the field, I can confirm that this is a known issue with older A4 models, despite what the dealer may have claimed. It is important to address this issue promptly to ensure the longevity and performance of your vehicle.

I've owned a variety of car brands, from Japanese to domestic, but unfortunately, my experience with this particular car has been the worst. Initially, I was drawn to its sleek appearance, impressive handling, and performance. However, after a couple of years, I began to experience problems. Despite keeping up with scheduled maintenance, the car frequently breaks down, with each repair costing between $1,000-2,000+. The most recent issue was with the fuel pump, and now it's the ECM/ECU. The most frustrating part is that it always seems to break down unexpectedly, leaving me stranded. This has become such an issue that I now rent cars when travelling out of town or to rural areas, as I can't rely on this car. I want to emphasize that I have always kept up with scheduled maintenance. In my opinion, this is the type of car that is better leased than owned. Just a friendly warning.

I experienced some issues with my Audi, including a safety recall for the electric coolant pump and a steering system failure. I have been driving the car with the pump disconnected for four months and am concerned about the longevity of the turbocharger. Recently, I also had trouble opening the fuel gate and received error codes P2293 and P053F. Unfortunately, I cannot afford the expensive repairs and may need to sell the car. The Audi dealer recommended a timing chain replacement for $2500, but I have already had the transmission, differentials, transfer case, and brake fluid changed at a certified mechanical shop using Audi OEM fluids. The fluids were in poor condition and should have been replaced much earlier. It is important to note that Audi suggests only changing the engine oil, as the other fluids have a lifetime warranty.

This car has had some issues, including needing to replace the struts and water pump after a year of use. Currently, I am experiencing problems with the Engine Control Module, which only the dealership is willing to address. Despite its attractive appearance, the car's ride is uncomfortable and it consumes a significant amount of oil.

Hello, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my Audi A4 (VIN: WAUAFAFL9DA143522 / IEN913) that I purchased on April 25, 2013. Recently, I noticed that the car was vibrating vigorously while driving, so I took it to the service area. Unfortunately, the diagnosis was that a piston was broken and a whole engine replacement was required. However, my service advisor informed me that the cause of the damage was related to a factory defect. Despite these issues, I have been very responsible with the recommended service schedule, including oil and filter changes, and the car only has a current mileage of 21,997. I have had some problems with the car since I bought it, but I am confident that the issue will be resolved. I left the car in the service area with the keys and I am looking forward to getting it back soon. Thank you for your help!
