2010 Cadillac Dts problems
The Cadillac DTS is a full-size car that was built by the American company Cadillac from 2005 until May 2011. It is a four-door sedan that comes in five- or six-seat variants. The DTS debuted at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show and was manufactured at GM's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly factory. It uses GM's G-platform for front-engine, front-wheel-drive automobiles. The DTS was a very mildly revised iteration of the eighth-generation Deville, using the brand's new naming convention, set by the CTS and STS. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, noted reviewer Warren Brown called the DTS "a large, exceptionally comfortable front-wheel-drive luxury sedan." The nameplate DTS is an acronym for DeVille Touring Sedan.
Production and specifications
Compared to its Deville predecessor, the DTS was mildly restyled rather than fully redesigned, featuring revised front-end sheet metal, front fascia, as well as rear decklid, rear quarter, and rear fascia.
The DTS used GM's G-platform, as denoted by the 4th letter in the VIN), and was powered by a transverse 32V Northstar V8, which produced 275 bhp (205 kW) in "Standard", "Luxury" and "Premium" trims. The DTS Platinum was equipped with 292 bhp (218 kW) version.
The base MSRP for the DTS at time of introduction was US$41,195 (equivalent to $64,300 in 2023) which was over 10% lower than the DeVille model it had replaced.
The DTS offered front bucket seats with overall seating for five passengers, and six passenger (i.e., front bench) seating available as an optional feature.
Standard features included multiple airbags, bi-functional xenon high-intensity discharge HID headlamps, leather seating surfaces, and power seats. Optional equipment included heated and cooled front seats and a heated rear seat, rain-sensing wipers, Bose audio system, DVD navigation, automatic dimming headlights, adaptive cruise control and Magnetic Ride Control suspension. A Platinum package became available in 2007 with special interior trim, badging, and other amenities.
GM phased out its small GM fender badges for all its vehicles, starting during the 2010 model year, including those on the DTS.

Common 2010 Cadillac Dts problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2010 Cadillac DTS, several common problems have been identified:
- Water Pump Issues: The water pump on the 2010 Cadillac DTS is located on the backside of the engine, making it challenging to access. Symptoms of water pump problems include low coolant levels, lack of heat, or engine overheating. Replacing the water pump may require removing significant components for access .
- Engine Oil Leaks: Owners have reported oil leaks that are not just from the oil pan but also from the engine's case half. The engine design, where the engine is sandwiched together, can lead to oil leaks. Detecting oil dripping on the ground may indicate this issue .
- Transmission Cooler Lines: Issues with transmission cooler lines have been noted. Specific details about these problems are not provided in the search results, but it is a known concern for some Cadillac DTS owners .
- Door Latch Actuators: Problems with door latch actuators have been reported. These issues may require replacing the actuator or addressing the latch mechanism to ensure proper door operation .
- Steering Wheel Position Sensor: Complaints have surfaced regarding the steering wheel position sensor. Malfunctions in this sensor can trigger the service stability light on the dashboard, indicating potential issues with the sensor located at the base of the steering column. Addressing this problem may involve sensor replacement or checking the wiring connections .
These common problems with the 2010 Cadillac DTS highlight various mechanical and electrical issues that owners have encountered. Proper maintenance and timely repairs can help mitigate these issues and ensure the optimal performance of the vehicle.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2014-06-01
- VIN: 1N4AL24E68C
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING,WHEELS
- Summary: (1) MY 2010 CADILLAC DTS IS EQUIPPED WITH THE FACTORY OPTIONAL CHROME RIMS. THE CAR WAS BUILT THE END OF MAY, 2010, AND BY JUNE, 2014, WITH APPROXIMATELY 54,000 MILES, ONE RIM WAS SO BADLY CORRODED IT WOULD NO LONGER HOLD AIR. ONE OTHER RIM WAS ALSO CORRODING BADLY, BUT WAS STILL HOLDING AIR BEFORE I REPLACED IT. THE OTHER TWO RIMS HAD SOME CORROSION, BUT TO A MUCH LESSER EXTENT THAN THE OTHERS. THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SENSOR HAD STOPPED WORKING ON THE TIRE THAT WAS LOSING PRESSURE, BUT IS WORKING SATISFACTORILY ON THE NEW RIM. IN MY OPINION, CADILLAC SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL ANY OF THESE RIMS THAT HAVE CORRODED--TRUE, MICHIGAN USES SALT ON ITS ROAD DURING THE WINTER, BUT THIS IS SOMETHING CADILLAC CERTAINLY KNEW ABOUT AND THAT IT SELLS A LARGER NUMBER OF CARS IN MICHIGAN. FURTHER, THE LIST PRICE FOR REPLACEMENT RIMS FROM CADILLAC IS APPROXIMATELY $900.00 PER RIM--$3600.00 FOR ALL FOUR! I COULD LIVE WITH THE CORROSION IN TERMS OF APPEARANCE, BUT A RIM THAT WILL NOT HOLD AIR IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD, AND IT OCCURRED FAIRLY EARLY ON IN THE VEHICLE'S OPERATIONAL LIFE. (2) MY 2010 CADILLAC DTS HAD THE BULB ON ITS UPPER DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT TURN SIGNAL BURN OUT AFTER FOUR YEARS AND 54,000 MILES. IT TURNED OUT IT IS A TWO-PERSON JOB TO REPLACE THE BULB (WHICH IS A MUNDANE, TRADITIONAL INCANDESCENT BULB, NOT A LED) AND A LABOR COST OF MORE THAN $200.00. THE REPLACEMENT IS NOT SOMETHING EVEN A FAIR-TO-MIDDLING SHADE TREE MECHANIC CAN UNDERTAKEN--IT REALLY REQUIRES A DEALERSHIP. I AM AFRAID THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE, WHEN THEY FIND OUT THE COST OF REPLACING THE BULB, WILL SIMPLY SAY TO HELL WITH IT. THE SAFETY HAZARDS CAUSED BY THAT IS INTUITIVELY OBVIOUS TO EVEN THE MOST CASUAL OBSERVER. CADILLAC SHOULD BE FORCED TO WARRANTY ALL OF ITS EXTERIOR LIGHTS AND NOT EXCLUDE THEM FROM THEIR WARRANTY, EXTENDED OR OTHERWISE. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES HAD TO BE UTILIZED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE AIR CONDITIONER AND THE RADIO WOULD POWER OFF INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT BEING INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-12-01
- VIN: 1G6KH5EYXAU
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: HEAD RESTRAINT CANNOT BE ADJUSTED, WHICH CAUSES A DRIVING HAZARD. POSITIONED TOO CLOSE TO MY HEAD WHEN I SIT UP STRAIGHT, THE HEAD RESTRAINT CAUSES MY HEAD TO POINT TOWARD MY LAP . IF I POSITION THE SEATS BACK SO THAT I CAN LOOK STRAIGHT AHEAD WITH MY HEAD ERECT, THE SEAT BACK DOES NOT TOUCH MY SHOULDERS AND UPPER BACK AND I HAVE TO HOLD TIGHTLY TO THE STEERING WHEEL TO STEADY MYSELF TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR, WHICH IS BOTH DISTRACTING AND VERY TIRING. I AM 5'9", 133 #, SLIGHTLY BUILT IN THE SHOULDERS. MY HUSBAND HAS MORE SHOULDERS AND HAS NO PROBLEM. OUR 2006 CADILLAC DTS HAD ADJUSTABLE HEADRESTS, WHICH WE ADJUSTED EACH TIME WE USED ONE OF THE FRONT SEATS. IN THE 2010 DTS, I HAVE PUT THE SEAT BACK A FEW INCHES AND SUPPLEMENTED WITH A SMALL PILLOW TO SUPPORT MY UPPER BACK, BUT HAVING TO ADJUST THE PILLOW FREQUENTLY AFTER I TURN TO LOOK TO THE SIDE OR BEHIND, DISTRACTS FROM MY DRIVING. WE RENTED BOTH A 2009 HONDA ACCORD AND A 2010 FORD FUSION AND I HAD EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THOSE VEHICLES. OUR DAUGHTER AND HER HUSBAND RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2010 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE; SHE IS 5'4" AND SLIGHT AND HAS THE VERY SAME PROBLEM WITH THE HEAD RESTRAINTS AS I DO. THEREFORE, HEIGHT IS NOT THE ISSUE; HAVING A THINNER FRAME THAN THE DOT "TEST DUMMIES" USED TO DETERMINE THE DISTANCE IS THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WHICH CANNOT BE ADDRESSED IN A CASUAL MANNER BY THE USER. THE DOT MUST ADDRESS THIS BEFORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS OCCUR.
SEAT BELTS,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2010-11-01
- VIN: 1G6KH5EY0AU
- Components: SEAT BELTS,SEATS
- Summary: 2010 CADILLAC DTS. CONSUMER STATES SERIOUS DESIGN FLAWS IN VEHICLE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE HEAD REST ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO ADJUST THE HEAD REST, WHICH WAS TILTED FORWARD WHICH MADE SITTING ALL THE WAY BACK IN THE SEAT IMPOSSIBLE. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE MECHANIC TURNED THE HEAD REST BACKWARDS SO THAT IT WOULD NOT STRIKE THE PASSENGER'S HEAD. ALSO, THE REAR SEAT BELTS WERE DIFFICULT TO FASTEN. THE DEALERSHIP DID CONFIRM THERE WAS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE REAR SEAT BELTS. THE MOUNTING BRACKETS FOR THE SEAT BELTS WERE NOT LONG ENOUGH. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER AGREED TO REIMBURSE HIM FOR THE COST OF EXTENDING THE SHANK OF THE SEAT BELT AND SECURING THE HEAD REST THAT HAD TO BE TURNED BACKWARDS SO THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER COULD SIT IN THE VEHICLE COMFORTABLY. UPDATED 04/17/12. *JB
SEATS PROBLEM

- Summary: I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 40-45 MPH COMING TO AN INTERSECTION. TRAFFIC LIGHT WAS RED AND SOME CARS WAITING. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND PUT IT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE APPROACHING THE STOPPED TRAFFIC. I TRIED TO BRAKE BUT THE PEDAL WENT SOFT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS DRIVING A 2008 CADILLAC DTS , AND I HIT THE CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. THERE WAS A FAILURE IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. MY CAR HAS ABOUT 5,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I AM REPORTING THIS TO MY CADILLAC DEALER ON MON 22 OF FEB, 2010. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. NO KNOWN INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS OF THE OTHER CAR. I SUSTAINED HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND WAS TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO WELLSTAR COBB HOSPITAL EMR. I RETURNED HOME THAT AFTERNOON, BUT THE NEXT MORNING I HAVE SORENESS IN NECK AND CHEST. *TR
2010 Cadillac Dts recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2010 Cadillac Dts.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

I began driving a Cadillac when Oldsmobile ceased production of the original Aurora. The ride from Florida to Atlanta, GA is comfortable, quiet, and smooth, allowing my companion to read a book during the drive. On one trip, my cruise control stopped working, but after hitting my OnStar button, they promptly made an appointment for me at a nearby dealership. The service manager was waiting for me and the problem was solved. He even called me to ensure that everything was completed to my satisfaction. This experience exemplifies the quality and service that Cadillac provides.

I have been a loyal Suburban owner for years, but this time I decided to switch things up and go for a sedan. I chose this Cadillac because it has the same features as my Suburban, but offers a much more comfortable and quiet ride. The Northstar engine provides great power, and there is plenty of passenger room and a huge trunk. The interior is also very nice. Unfortunately, the fuel pump went out in the first week, but thankfully the 90-day warranty and dealer contribution covered the repair costs. It is important to note that repairs can be expensive, so it may be worth considering an extended warranty based on the mileage of the car purchased and the limits of the warranty.

Congratulations on your new 08 DTS! I understand that as a big guy (6'5

I've owned several full-size Cadillacs, including a 2006 model prior to this one. While the 2006 DTS averaged 25 MPG or better on the road, this one only averages closer to 23 MPG. It's a bit disappointing, but overall, I'm very pleased with the car.
-
I love my car, but repairs can be expensive. I have an oil leak and was quoted $4600 to fix it.

I have owned my DTS for 2 years now (23,000MI) and I feel confident in saying that, having previously owned a 09 Avalon, there is simply no comparison. The Avalon pales in comparison to the superior DTS. It seems that the gentleman who claimed there was no comparison had not driven the DTS. I did experience some front wheel balancing issues initially, but after a few attempts, the problem was resolved. While the fit and finish of both the interior and exterior are not perfect, they are still quite good. There is some road and wind noise, but it is not too noticeable, and the engine noise is not bothersome. While some may only buy the DTS for the name, I believe it is a great car overall. I made the mistake of buying it for that reason, but I am glad I did.

I have found that my Town Car is superior to the DTS in almost every way, except for a few areas such as pedal position, ride, brake feel, and power. The DTS engine can be quite noisy and expansion joints can cause booming throughout the structure. On the other hand, the TC's body on frame is much quieter with much less road noise. While the DTS steering is too firm, making small corrections difficult without yanking the wheel, the Town Car's steering is much more comfortable. Additionally, the DTS lacks a locking fuel filler door, a trunk lid pull down, and a trumpet horn, and its occupants sit too low. When compared to the TC, the DTS seems like a mid-sized car. However, the Town Car rides too firmly, and the accelerator and brake pedals are too close together and too far to the right. Furthermore, the engine is not as responsive as the one in the DTS, which is rear-wheel drive.

Although the DTS was my dream car, I have found that the ride quality is not up to my expectations. Despite this, I appreciate the spacious back seat and the functionality of the FWD. I have explored other options such as the Lincoln Mkx, Town Car, and Chrysler 300, but ultimately chose the DTS for its features. I have brought up my concerns about the ride quality with the dealer, but unfortunately, they were unable to offer a solution. While I am disappointed with the ride, I am confident in my decision to choose the DTS for its other benefits.

I had my brake lights on the trunk replaced twice, and it didn't cost me a penny. However, I did have to replace the water pump at 6500 miles, which cost me $900. Unfortunately, at 74000 miles, I had an oil leak and was told by the dealer that the North Star engine was notorious for this issue, which cost me $3000 to fix. Additionally, my power steering was leaking, and it cost me $1500 to repair. I also noticed that the lights on the dashboard flicker all the time.

I purchased a pre-owned 2010 DTS with 74k miles on it. While it is true that some components may require maintenance after a decade of use, I have found that this vehicle has experienced a number of oil leaks and persistent error codes that have been difficult to resolve. Additionally, the check engine light has been known to illuminate frequently, even in response to minor bumps in the road. Overall, I have found this car to be less reliable than I had hoped.
