Cadillac Dts problems

The Cadillac DTS is a full-size car that was built by the American company Cadillac from 2005 until May 2011. It is a four-door sedan that comes in five- or six-seat variants. The DTS debuted at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show and was manufactured at GM's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly factory. It uses GM's G-platform for front-engine, front-wheel-drive automobiles. The DTS was a very mildly revised iteration of the eighth-generation Deville, using the brand's new naming convention, set by the CTS and STS. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, noted reviewer Warren Brown called the DTS "a large, exceptionally comfortable front-wheel-drive luxury sedan." The nameplate DTS is an acronym for DeVille Touring Sedan.
Production and specifications
Compared to its Deville predecessor, the DTS was mildly restyled rather than fully redesigned, featuring revised front-end sheet metal, front fascia, as well as rear decklid, rear quarter, and rear fascia.
The DTS used GM's G-platform, as denoted by the 4th letter in the VIN), and was powered by a transverse 32V Northstar V8, which produced 275 bhp (205 kW) in "Standard", "Luxury" and "Premium" trims. The DTS Platinum was equipped with 292 bhp (218 kW) version.
The base MSRP for the DTS at time of introduction was US$41,195 (equivalent to $64,300 in 2023) which was over 10% lower than the DeVille model it had replaced.
The DTS offered front bucket seats with overall seating for five passengers, and six passenger (i.e., front bench) seating available as an optional feature.
Standard features included multiple airbags, bi-functional xenon high-intensity discharge HID headlamps, leather seating surfaces, and power seats. Optional equipment included heated and cooled front seats and a heated rear seat, rain-sensing wipers, Bose audio system, DVD navigation, automatic dimming headlights, adaptive cruise control and Magnetic Ride Control suspension. A Platinum package became available in 2007 with special interior trim, badging, and other amenities.
GM phased out its small GM fender badges for all its vehicles, starting during the 2010 model year, including those on the DTS.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-14
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-15
- VIN: 1G6KD57Y98U
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: Tire size: 235/55R17 99H In February 2022, I purchased a set of 4 Yokahama tires from Discount Tire Co., located at 2707 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78230. The mileage on the car was approx. 89,000. In February of 2024, my mechanic notice tread lifting on the tires, so I took the car to Discount Tire Co., located at 1755 SW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78227, and the service tech told me that I had not been rotating the tires property, which was what was causing this issue. I assured him that I had been rotating the tires. The tech said to let them rotate them again and the tire tread would "smooth out" over time. Mileage on the car at that time was approx. 118,000. In August of 2024, my mechanic again noticed the continued tread lifting on the tires. My mechanic stated that it appeared the tires had "dry rot". When I told him that Discount Tire had said it was from incorrect tire rotation, my mechanic said that what was happening to the tread could not possibly be from bad tire rotation. Further, he told me this type of tread lifting was dangerous for me to continue to drive on these tires. So, I took the car to Discount Tire Co., located at 3118 Goliad Rd., San Antonio, TX 78223. After explaining what my mechanic had just diagnosed, I requested the warranty that I purchased extra for all 4 tires be used to replace them. The manager at Discount Tire refused to replace my tires under warranty, which clearly appear to be defective. Mileage on the car at this point is approx. 126,000. The manager claimed they were not defective and safe to drive. I had him put this statement in writing prior to me leaving the store. The manager then offered to sell me a new set of tires for a discounted price of $800 +warranty cost for the 4 new tires. The manager refused to allow me to take MY "defective tires" with me for further analysis by another facility. I continue to drive on these Yokahama tires because they have been deemed "safe" by Discount Tire Co.

I replaced both assemblies for approximately $2,950.00 (Invoice [XXX}). As a follow-up, during a recent 5,000 mile trip during February 2024, driving in cold, rain, snow and road spray conditions for days, both headlight assemblies accumulated a significant amount of moisture (see photo) behind the lenses. Cadillac dealer did replace left assembly (drivers side) under parts warranty but not the right side. Both headlight assemblies are operating without incident since replacement, except as noted above on assemblies not sealed against environment/elements. Cadillac Dts 2007
- Date Of Incident: 2022-08-06
- Date Complaint: 2022-12-13
- VIN: 1G6KD57Y07U
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: We purchased this vehicle four months ago and love it except for: 1)There seems to be some kind of tint on the rear view mirror which makes it very hard to see other vehicles at night, especially at dusk before some drivers turn their headlights on. We know to be very careful, but there is a very high risk for an accident. 2)Exhaust fumes enter the vehicle when stopped while the engine is running, made worse by the fact that the vehicle automatically resets to let outside air in even if we push the button to recirculate the inside air. I can’t imagine that this is healthy for anyone: I’ve had to use my inhaler more often. The situation could be life-threatening for some if one had to sit in traffic for an extended period of time.

The Cadillac 2009 DTS is a high performer among luxury cars. I purchased mine in 2014 with only 17 thousand miles on it, and it has been a joy to drive ever since. Even with 55 thousand miles on it now (which is still low, as I garage it in the winter and use my AWD SUV), it still feels smooth and quiet. My friends who own luxury foreign brands even compliment me on the ride quality. Timeless features like heated and cooled seats and a moon roof make it even better. I have had to put about $3000 worth of maintenance work into it over the last four years, but that seems like a bargain for an eleven year old car. Knock on wood, I haven't had any problems with this vehicle. I highly recommend it for its great build quality and finishes.

Vehicle year: 2009
I got my first car at the age of 16, a 1994 Honda Accord. Later, I upgraded to a 2002 Lincoln Continental when I turned 20. After that, I got a 2004 Cadillac SRX when I got married, had a baby and turned 23. Now, at the age of 33, I drive a 2008 Cadillac DTS. I bought this car 10 months ago with 84,000 miles for $7,500. Since then, I have had to do some routine maintenance (brake, bearing, battery, a couple of spark plugs), but I still think it was a great buy. I revamped the audio system, adding dual 12” subs in the trunk and JL audio speakers and tweets throughout the cabin. I will also be throwing Vogue whitewalls on this big boi once the winter is over. I love the stock rims, so I don't feel the need to replace them. My Lac has a landau roof and looks so classy. I added a giant naked chrome lady (Sabrina) on the hood to give it a bad grandpa look. The interior is a creamy linen throughout. I upgraded to some custom Lloyd mats with the Cadillac name written in script. Also put in Cadillac crest logo welcome-lights for the front doors at night. The front seats are heated and cooled, rear seats are heated. Steering wheel is heated. I added a car alarm and remote start. It’s heavenly having a warm seat and nice cozy car on these cold New England mornings. The car is a beast to maneuver and park for the uninitiated, but I've always been a lover of large American sedans. There are nice wood accents throughout the cabin, which look really nice. I love the good, clean, creamy beige interior leather, it's so plush and luxurious (for the price point). However, the stock radio was hideous, and I did not have the model with the DVD navigation screen.Don't worry, I replaced that old system with a Kenwood touch screen. The car is really comfortable and fun to drive, and I've received compliments from people of all ages and genders. It's a real head-turner! While I've heard some criticisms of the 2008 Cadillac DTS, I can only speak to my own experience. I didn't buy the car new, and I certainly didn't pay $50,000 for a platinum DTS with an oil leak. For $7,500 and 84,000 miles, you won't find a better balance of luxury and affordability. This car is in the same class as the 300, Lucerne, and Town Car. It's not a sporty car for whipping around corners, but rather a large, luxurious, classic American land yacht. I understand that maintaining a vehicle like this requires some upkeep, such as using premium gas and full synthetic oil, leather wipes for the seats and doors, and weekly car washes. If you're not comfortable with that, then this might not be the car for you. But if you're looking for a true Cadillac experience, then this is the car for you!

Hello! I just wanted to share my love for Cadillacs with you. Ever since I was 5 years old and rode with my Granny in her many Cadillacs, I have been a huge fan of these cars. Even though I may not be the typical age of a traditional Caddy buyer, I still love the size, comfort, and style of large American cars. My family has always driven Caddys or Lincolns, and I carry on that tradition with a great amount of pride. I purchased a Certified-Used 2008 DTS in early 2011, after trading in a 2005 Deville DTS that I loved. While the 2008 DTS is not a sports car, nor is it intended to be, I have been disappointed with its reliability issues. This is not only due to the cost, but also for sentimental reasons. Thank you for listening!

First off, what a beautiful car! It's comfortable and has decent mpg. However, I noticed that this car was always serviced at a Cadillac dealership. At 38,000 miles, the braking system needed a complete rebuild and it wasn't as good as new. Then, both valve cover gaskets and front seat electronics needed to be replaced. At the 40,000 mile service, all seals in the lower engine were replaced, which was a big expense. Although it's a very nice car, I can't help but wonder if a Lexus, Mercedes, or other competitive luxury car would need this much maintenance. I no longer trust this car to be reliable, but it is pretty. This is my fourth Cadillac, and it's a shame that Cadillac doesn't have the reliability to match its price. The prestige is just not worth it.

Two years ago, I purchased a 2008 Cadillac DTS with 62,000 miles to replace my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis with 156,000 miles, which unfortunately had seen better days. While the Cadillac looks and runs like a brand new car, I found the ride to be a bit noisy on city streets and there were too many buttons to push, which I found distracting. I would have preferred to buy another Mercury, but unfortunately, they are no longer being manufactured. The Mercury had fewer buttons to push and a much smoother ride, both in the city and on the highway. I did find the headroom in the Cadillac to be a bit poor, but my wife, who is much smaller, loves the car. The recent oil leak in the engine cover was a bit of a setback, and the repair costs quoted by the dealer were quite high. I have decided to trade in the Cadillac for a new KIA Optima, which I find to be more comfortable and easier to handle. Overall, I have had a mixed experience with the Cadillac, and while it may not be the car for me, it may be perfect for someone else.

I recently upgraded my car to the 2008 DTS Luxury III Platinum model, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with it. I reached out to the customer service line for assistance, but I was not able to speak with a decision maker and did not receive the help I needed. I am currently working with the dealership to resolve the issue, but I have not been able to speak with the GM Rep yet. As a loyal customer with three GM cars, I hope to find a solution soon so that I can continue to enjoy their products in the future.

I have owned my DTS for 2 years now (23,000MI) and I feel confident in saying that, having previously owned a 09 Avalon, there is simply no comparison. The Avalon pales in comparison to the superior DTS. It seems that the gentleman who claimed there was no comparison had not driven the DTS. I did experience some front wheel balancing issues initially, but after a few attempts, the problem was resolved. While the fit and finish of both the interior and exterior are not perfect, they are still quite good. There is some road and wind noise, but it is not too noticeable, and the engine noise is not bothersome. While some may only buy the DTS for the name, I believe it is a great car overall. I made the mistake of buying it for that reason, but I am glad I did.
