2008 Cadillac Dts problems
The Cadillac DTS is a full-size car that was built by the American company Cadillac from 2005 until May 2011. It is a four-door sedan that comes in five- or six-seat variants. The DTS debuted at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show and was manufactured at GM's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly factory. It uses GM's G-platform for front-engine, front-wheel-drive automobiles. The DTS was a very mildly revised iteration of the eighth-generation Deville, using the brand's new naming convention, set by the CTS and STS. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, noted reviewer Warren Brown called the DTS "a large, exceptionally comfortable front-wheel-drive luxury sedan." The nameplate DTS is an acronym for DeVille Touring Sedan.
Production and specifications
Compared to its Deville predecessor, the DTS was mildly restyled rather than fully redesigned, featuring revised front-end sheet metal, front fascia, as well as rear decklid, rear quarter, and rear fascia.
The DTS used GM's G-platform, as denoted by the 4th letter in the VIN), and was powered by a transverse 32V Northstar V8, which produced 275 bhp (205 kW) in "Standard", "Luxury" and "Premium" trims. The DTS Platinum was equipped with 292 bhp (218 kW) version.
The base MSRP for the DTS at time of introduction was US$41,195 (equivalent to $64,300 in 2023) which was over 10% lower than the DeVille model it had replaced.
The DTS offered front bucket seats with overall seating for five passengers, and six passenger (i.e., front bench) seating available as an optional feature.
Standard features included multiple airbags, bi-functional xenon high-intensity discharge HID headlamps, leather seating surfaces, and power seats. Optional equipment included heated and cooled front seats and a heated rear seat, rain-sensing wipers, Bose audio system, DVD navigation, automatic dimming headlights, adaptive cruise control and Magnetic Ride Control suspension. A Platinum package became available in 2007 with special interior trim, badging, and other amenities.
GM phased out its small GM fender badges for all its vehicles, starting during the 2010 model year, including those on the DTS.

TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-14
- VIN: 1G6KD57Y98U
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: Tire size: 235/55R17 99H In February 2022, I purchased a set of 4 Yokahama tires from Discount Tire Co., located at 2707 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78230. The mileage on the car was approx. 89,000. In February of 2024, my mechanic notice tread lifting on the tires, so I took the car to Discount Tire Co., located at 1755 SW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78227, and the service tech told me that I had not been rotating the tires property, which was what was causing this issue. I assured him that I had been rotating the tires. The tech said to let them rotate them again and the tire tread would "smooth out" over time. Mileage on the car at that time was approx. 118,000. In August of 2024, my mechanic again noticed the continued tread lifting on the tires. My mechanic stated that it appeared the tires had "dry rot". When I told him that Discount Tire had said it was from incorrect tire rotation, my mechanic said that what was happening to the tread could not possibly be from bad tire rotation. Further, he told me this type of tread lifting was dangerous for me to continue to drive on these tires. So, I took the car to Discount Tire Co., located at 3118 Goliad Rd., San Antonio, TX 78223. After explaining what my mechanic had just diagnosed, I requested the warranty that I purchased extra for all 4 tires be used to replace them. The manager at Discount Tire refused to replace my tires under warranty, which clearly appear to be defective. Mileage on the car at this point is approx. 126,000. The manager claimed they were not defective and safe to drive. I had him put this statement in writing prior to me leaving the store. The manager then offered to sell me a new set of tires for a discounted price of $800 +warranty cost for the 4 new tires. The manager refused to allow me to take MY "defective tires" with me for further analysis by another facility. I continue to drive on these Yokahama tires because they have been deemed "safe" by Discount Tire Co.

- Summary: 2008 CADILLAC DTS (100K MI) WAS PARKED AND ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START. I DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO FUEL TO ENGINE BY CHECKING SCHRADER VALVE ON FUEL RAIL. PROCEEDED TO CHECK FUEL PUMP (FP) FUSE (OK) AND FP RELAY (BURNED ON PIN 30 ALONG WITH FUSE BLOCK). REPLACED FP RELAY; HOWEVER, AFTER A FEW MINUTES FROM VEHICLE START, THE RELAY HEATS TO ABOUT 200 DEGREES F. AFTER READING SEVERAL FORUMS, THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON: IT APPEARS THE FUSE BLOCK (UNDER REAR SEAT ). IS DEFECTIVE. I HAVE ORDERED GM BLOCK 19116810 WHICH APPARENTLY SUPERSEDES THE ORIGINAL FACTORY GM BLOCK 13599106. THIS PROBLEM CLEARLY POSES MANY SAFETY ISSUES: FIRE, ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING, ETC. GM NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROBLEM. MOREOVER, I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE BURNED OUT CONNECTOR (UNDER PASSENGER SEAT) FOR THE HEATED SEATS. FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT HAVE THE HEATED WINDSHIELD WASHER OPTION WHICH ALSO EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL ISSUES. SHAME ON GM FOR NOT CORRECTING THESE ENGINEERING DESIGN DEFECTS. SAFETY SHOULD BE PARAMOUNT WITH THESE TYPES OF ISSUES ON YOUR VEHICLES ESPECIALLY YOUR PREMIER BRAND (CADILLAC).

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-01-28
- VIN: 1G6KD57Y18U
- Components: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
- Summary: THE CHECK ENGINE CODE SHOWED THE INTERNAL POWER MODULE FAILURE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN WHILE TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THIS WAS WITHOUT WARNING AND MADE THE CAR'S POWER BRAKES AND STEERING TO BECOME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER AND BRAKE THE CAR BY MY WIFE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME WITH THE CHECK ENGINE OFF THEY SAID I HAD TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND AGAIN AN ACCIDENT WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED. THE DEALER DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND REPLACED THE MODULE PLUS THE COMPUTER AT A COST OF $750. THIS IS THE NINTH CADILLAC I HAVE OWNED SINCE 1980 WHEN I PURCHASED A SEVILLE WITH A DIESEL ENGINE AND THIS IS THE FIRST THAT HAD A DEFECTIVE POWER MODULE AND COMPUTER. THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD AND BOTH CADILLAC AND I WERE LUCKY THAT THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES. NOW WITH THE PROBLEM CORRECTED MY WIFE IS HESITANT ABOUT DRIVING AFTER THE CLOSE CALL SHE HAS EXPERIENCED. SHE ALWAYS INSISTED ON DRIVING A CADILLAC BECAUSE OF THEIR SAFETY RATING AND BECAUSE THEY WON THE MALCULAM BALDRIDGE QUALITY AWARD BACK IN THE 1980'S. I THINK A RECALL TO REPLACE THOSE MODULES AFTER HIGH MILEAGE OF AT LEAST 65K MILES. MY 2008 CADILLAC DTS MILEAGE INDICATOR SHOWS 84,000 MILES.

2008 Cadillac Dts recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2008 Cadillac Dts.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

A RECALL WAS IMPLEMENTED IN 2008 TO ADD A FUSE TO THE CONTROL CIRCUIT HARNESS TO ADDRESS THE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) ELECTRICAL SHORT. HOWEVER, THERE HAVE BEEN NEW REPORTS OF THERMAL INCIDENTS ON HWFS MODULES AFTER THIS IMPROVEMENT WAS INSTALLED. THESE INCIDENTS RESULTED FROM A NEW FAILURE MODE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DEVICE'S THERMAL PROTECTION FEATURE. THE SIGNIFICANCE VARIES FROM MINOR DISTORTION TO CONSIDERABLE MELTING OF THE PLASTIC AROUND THE HWFS FLUID CHAMBER.
- Consequence: IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE HEATED WASHER MODULE TO IGNITE AND A FIRE MAY OCCUR.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL PERMANENTLY DISABLE AND REMOVE THE HEATED WASHER FLUID MODULE. AN UPDATED PAGE FOR THE OWNER MANUAL WILL BE PROVIDED AND INSERTED IN THE OWNER MANUAL TO DOCUMENT THAT THE FEATURE HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY DISABLED AND REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 11, 2010. I recently traded my BMW 745 for a Cadillac DTS. Although the Cadillac may not have all the advanced technology of the BMW, it is much easier to maintain, rides beautifully, and is simple to service. According to Consumer Reports, this car is highly reliable, in part because it forgoes some of the cutting-edge technology in favor of affordability and dependability. The spacious trunk and back seat make it perfect for carrying passengers and luggage, which is great for longer road trips. Additionally, the car runs on regular gas, parts are easy to find, and there is an extensive dealer network. Overall, GM has done an excellent job with this car.

I began driving a Cadillac when Oldsmobile ceased production of the original Aurora. The ride from Florida to Atlanta, GA is comfortable, quiet, and smooth, allowing my companion to read a book during the drive. On one trip, my cruise control stopped working, but after hitting my OnStar button, they promptly made an appointment for me at a nearby dealership. The service manager was waiting for me and the problem was solved. He even called me to ensure that everything was completed to my satisfaction. This experience exemplifies the quality and service that Cadillac provides.

On August 31, 2008, we became the proud owners of our third Cadillac. The 2008 DTS is generally comfortable and the engine has a lot of power. However, I have noticed that it is noisier than my previous 2002 Deville. There is some gear noise that can be heard between 25-30mph from the front of the vehicle, but it disappears when I release the accelerator. Fortunately, the gear noise cannot be heard below 25 or above 30 mph. I suspect that the transaxel may be the cause. Additionally, the side seat buckles in the back seat are set too low, making it difficult for an average-sized adult to connect the latch to the buckle. By the way, have car companies stopped using undercoat on vehicles? Thank you for your help!

Absolutely a great ride! Breaking would be my only complaint, but it is a large, heavy vehicle. You just have to get used to it...

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with Cadillacs. I've actually owned several, including a 2006 DTS. I've found that they can get pretty good gas mileage, especially on the highway. However, I have noticed that my current DTS gets slightly lower mileage than my 2006 did. Despite that, I'm still really happy with the car's looks and comfort. Thanks for listening!

Hey there! Have you ever had to locate the starter in a Northstar engine? It's actually located under the intake. If you're ever in need of a torque converter solenoid repair, it should only cost around $28.00. However, if you need to change the entire solenoid, it can be a bit pricey at around $2300. It's also worth noting that most Northstar engines tend to use about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. Lastly, if you ever need a head gasket repair, it can be quite expensive. Unfortunately, this is a common issue with Northstar engines. As someone who has owned 4 Northstar Cadillacs, I can definitely say that they can be a bit of an engineering disaster. However, I hope this information helps you out! Let me know if you have any questions.

Two years ago, I purchased a 2008 Cadillac DTS with 62,000 miles to replace my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis with 156,000 miles, which unfortunately had seen better days. While the Cadillac looks and runs like a brand new car, I found the ride to be a bit noisy on city streets and there were too many buttons to push, which I found distracting. I would have preferred to buy another Mercury, but unfortunately, they are no longer being manufactured. The Mercury had fewer buttons to push and a much smoother ride, both in the city and on the highway. I did find the headroom in the Cadillac to be a bit poor, but my wife, who is much smaller, loves the car. The recent oil leak in the engine cover was a bit of a setback, and the repair costs quoted by the dealer were quite high. I have decided to trade in the Cadillac for a new KIA Optima, which I find to be more comfortable and easier to handle. Overall, I have had a mixed experience with the Cadillac, and while it may not be the car for me, it may be perfect for someone else.

I owned a 2000 Deville and absolutely loved it. Recently, my wife and I decided to upgrade to the 2008 DTS. In my opinion, the new model is not as quiet or smooth as the 2000. Additionally, it has a whining noise at approximately 15 to 30 mph, which I read about in another review. It also tends to get sluggish at 45 mph, which is puzzling. The 2000 had much softer and more comfortable seats. Although my wife loves the car, I am disappointed with it. I do not believe it is worth the $51,000 price tag.

The car is certainly comfortable and handles well, especially for its size. However, I did experience some issues with the drivetrain and electronics, which required me to take it to the shop at both 500 and 2000 miles. Unfortunately, the dealership did not offer a loaner car during these times, which was disappointing given the price I paid for the car. Overall, while I may not purchase another American car in the future, I appreciate the positive aspects of this one.
