2006 Cadillac Dts problems
The Cadillac DTS is a full-size car that was built by the American company Cadillac from 2005 until May 2011. It is a four-door sedan that comes in five- or six-seat variants. The DTS debuted at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show and was manufactured at GM's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly factory. It uses GM's G-platform for front-engine, front-wheel-drive automobiles. The DTS was a very mildly revised iteration of the eighth-generation Deville, using the brand's new naming convention, set by the CTS and STS. Writing for the Los Angeles Times, noted reviewer Warren Brown called the DTS "a large, exceptionally comfortable front-wheel-drive luxury sedan." The nameplate DTS is an acronym for DeVille Touring Sedan.
Production and specifications
Compared to its Deville predecessor, the DTS was mildly restyled rather than fully redesigned, featuring revised front-end sheet metal, front fascia, as well as rear decklid, rear quarter, and rear fascia.
The DTS used GM's G-platform, as denoted by the 4th letter in the VIN), and was powered by a transverse 32V Northstar V8, which produced 275 bhp (205 kW) in "Standard", "Luxury" and "Premium" trims. The DTS Platinum was equipped with 292 bhp (218 kW) version.
The base MSRP for the DTS at time of introduction was US$41,195 (equivalent to $64,300 in 2023) which was over 10% lower than the DeVille model it had replaced.
The DTS offered front bucket seats with overall seating for five passengers, and six passenger (i.e., front bench) seating available as an optional feature.
Standard features included multiple airbags, bi-functional xenon high-intensity discharge HID headlamps, leather seating surfaces, and power seats. Optional equipment included heated and cooled front seats and a heated rear seat, rain-sensing wipers, Bose audio system, DVD navigation, automatic dimming headlights, adaptive cruise control and Magnetic Ride Control suspension. A Platinum package became available in 2007 with special interior trim, badging, and other amenities.
GM phased out its small GM fender badges for all its vehicles, starting during the 2010 model year, including those on the DTS.

- Summary: While driving at night in July, 2023 on [XXX] , both headlights began to go out intermittently but not simultaneously. Continued driving for approximately 3 hours to final destination. Took to local Cadillac dealer for diagnostics (Invoice [XXX]) and after dialogue with dealer had both assemblies replaced as was informed the electronics have been noted to fail in these assemblies. I replaced both assemblies for approximately $2,950.00 (Invoice [XXX}). As a follow-up, during a recent 5,000 mile trip during February 2024, driving in cold, rain, snow and road spray conditions for days, both headlight assemblies accumulated a significant amount of moisture (see photo) behind the lenses. Cadillac dealer did replace left assembly (drivers side) under parts warranty but not the right side. Both headlight assemblies are operating without incident since replacement, except as noted above on assemblies not sealed against environment/elements. It they didn’t either I believe and even if we didn’t say anything they honestly should’ve just repaired the part that was messed up for us and then let us know: now we have spent so much money towing our car back to our house so that it is safe, and have missed appointments, been stranded, I mean we have really, honestly and truly, very very compromised but this issue with the electrical system Our car is having all the time since this recall repair was administered: NOW IT HAS JUST GOTTEN SO BAD WE CAN NOYT EVEN DRIVE IT. We will get stuck where ever we turn it off unfortunately. I’ve not looked online at information taken all the necessary needs to find out if my vehicle was given the recall before we owned it just to be sure too, it was not. I know that everything that I have read relates directly perfectly to Every single issue that we are have ig Now on our car. The recall from 2014 the key doesn’t come out the ignition anymore and that’s very good, but I know that The CADILLAC Dealer, DID NOT!! Install any other part into the car but that service it asked for. Like beyond a doubt I don’t know what to do and would love to be able to get some answers soon. Thank you very much. - VIN: 1G6KD57986U
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I OWN A 2006 CADILLAC DTS WHICH I BOUGHT AT AN AUCTION WITH 138,000 MILES. WELL MAINTAINED AND ZERO OBD2 CODES. IT RAN GREAT BUT HAD A SMALL OIL LEAK WHICH HAS PROGRESSED TO THE WHOLE UNDERSIDE OF THE PASSENGER ENGINE BEING WET WITH OIL. SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM EITHER THE CRANKCASE OR OIL PAN GASKET WHICH ARE BOTH REQUIRED TO PULL THE ENGINE TO REPAIR, EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE AND THE AVERAGE PERSON CANNOT AFFORD THESE REPAIRS. HORRIBLE DESIGN FOR SUCH A DIFFICULT ENGINE TO WORK ON. OTHER THEN THAT THE CAR RUNS EXTREMELY WELL, NO OTHER PROBLEMS AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED BY ME AND PREVIOUS OWNER. I LOVE THE CAR BUT IF I HAVE TO PAY OVER $2K FOR THESE KIND OF REPAIRS THAT I CANNOT DO MYSELF THEN I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER GM CAR. NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON BOTH THE CRANKCASE AND OIL PAN AS THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS OF THESE ISSUES. OIL SHOULD NOT LEAK FROM A PARKED CAR NOT RUNNING. DANGEROUS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER DRIVERS. NO WONDER WERE HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ENVIRONMENT, ALL GM CARES ABOUT IS THE MONEY THEY WILL HAVE TO PUT OUT. BUT THIS IS THE REASON THEY'RE SALES HAVE DECLINED AND HAD TO STOP MAKING DEVILLED, NOBODY BUYS THEM BECAUSE GM WON'T RECALL THESE ISSUES. DUH GM ALMOST WENT OUT OF BUSINESS YRS AGO FROM STUFF LIKE THIS, THEY DON'T CARE. SO WHY WOULD ANYONE BUY A GM VEHICLE? THIS WILL BE MY LAST IS THESE ISSUES ARE NOT RECALLED AS THE LABOR IS THE ONLY REASON CADILLACS ARE EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, PARTS ARE REASONABLE.

2006 Cadillac Dts recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2006 Cadillac Dts.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
- Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, 2000-2005 Cadillac DeVille, 2006-2011 Cadillac DTS, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, and 2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the weight on the key ring and road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
- Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, a key knocked out of the run position will cause loss of engine power, power steering, and power braking, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 23, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), and 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet). GM's number for this recall is 14299.

A RECALL WAS IMPLEMENTED IN 2008 TO ADD A FUSE TO THE CONTROL CIRCUIT HARNESS TO ADDRESS THE POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES OF A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) ELECTRICAL SHORT. HOWEVER, THERE HAVE BEEN NEW REPORTS OF THERMAL INCIDENTS ON HWFS MODULES AFTER THIS IMPROVEMENT WAS INSTALLED. THESE INCIDENTS RESULTED FROM A NEW FAILURE MODE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DEVICE'S THERMAL PROTECTION FEATURE. THE SIGNIFICANCE VARIES FROM MINOR DISTORTION TO CONSIDERABLE MELTING OF THE PLASTIC AROUND THE HWFS FLUID CHAMBER.
- Consequence: IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE HEATED WASHER MODULE TO IGNITE AND A FIRE MAY OCCUR.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL PERMANENTLY DISABLE AND REMOVE THE HEATED WASHER FLUID MODULE. AN UPDATED PAGE FOR THE OWNER MANUAL WILL BE PROVIDED AND INSERTED IN THE OWNER MANUAL TO DOCUMENT THAT THE FEATURE HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY DISABLED AND REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 11, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BUICK AT 1-866-608-8080, CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2339, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, SATURN AT 1-800-972-8876, GMC AT 1-866-996-9463 AND HUMMER AT 1-800-732-5493 OR AT THE OWNER CENTER AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my lovely car. I purchased it after having a Cadillac with only 60,000 miles. I really liked the styling and overall, it's a joy to drive. I get very good gas mileage (27-29) on long trips and in town, normally 20-21. The only issue I've had is with the tire monitoring system. I've had 2 sensors replaced and am having problems again. But, despite that, I still love my car! Thank you for letting me share.

The 2006 DTS is a great car that offers both comfort and reliability. It has adequate power and stability, making it a great choice for driving on mountain roads. As with any vehicle, the highway mileage will depend on how aggressively it is driven. However, you can expect to get around 28-29 mpg when cruising on the highway, while more aggressive driving may result in a lower mpg of around 22-23. If you're planning a long haul trip, you'll be pleased to know that the car can handle 400-450 miles between fuel and food stops. Just make sure you're comfortable sitting for that long!

I really love this car! It has plenty of zip and is very classy. The interior is nicely laid out with lots of room and comfortable seats. Although I don't use the remote start much, it's nice to have in the winter. I absolutely adore the XM radio - it's extremely addictive and I can't imagine living without it now. In fact, I loved it so much that I installed it in my second car and plan to get it in my next one too!

I was a bit hesitant to buy the DTS Performance after years of driving Toyotas and Volvos, but after almost 4 years, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Aside from some minor complaints about the brakes and gas mileage, this car has been exceptional! Despite reading many complaints about the factory tires, mine have held up well with regular rotation and correct pressures, and I believe they will easily reach 60k miles. While I would be pleased if the gas mileage improved and a 6-speed transmission was added, I hope that comfort is not sacrificed for handling, as I find the DTS handles extremely well with the various electronic handling augments.

I'm so glad I decided to try out this vehicle, especially after driving an SUV for so many years! The DTS is incredibly comfortable, and I absolutely love the XM radio. It's still early, but I have a feeling this car is going to be great. I do have one small complaint, though. Sometimes, I sit in the back seat and rest my left arm on the armrest because I recently had shoulder surgery. Unfortunately, the seat belts in the back seat are quite uncomfortable and rub against my neck. Additionally, I think some of the interior trim could be a bit more refined and made with better quality materials. Other than that, though, I'm really enjoying this car!

This car is quite large and gives a similar feeling to that of the Titanic passengers as it floated aimlessly on the water highway prior to colliding with an iceberg. However, there seem to be some issues with the car's design. While the looks are okay, some of the accessories are not functioning properly. For example, upon exiting the car, the tilt wheel does not fully retract and tilt upward, and when you unlock the doors, it returns to the driving position, which is not ideal. Additionally, the car consumes a lot of fuel, which is not very economical. Perhaps a Lexus or Mercedes-Benz would have been a better choice, as Cadillacs are known for their poor resale values. Lastly, the fuel door seems to be accessible to anyone, which is a bit concerning.

I've been a Cadillac owner since 2000 and have always admired the exterior design of the DTS models from 2000-2005. When I purchased a 2006 model, I was hoping for an even better experience, but unfortunately, I found it to be worse. The cup holders are very shallow, causing me to spill my coffee on several occasions. Additionally, the car can be a bit noisy during hard acceleration, although the cruising noise level is fine. I also find the torque steer at highway speeds to be a bit annoying, as it is front-wheel drive. However, the OnStar system is excellent, and the ability to use my Verizon cell phone numbers with it is a nice feature.

My vehicle is only 14 months old and has only been driven 5,350 miles, but it has been giving me some trouble lately. Unfortunately, it wouldn't start one day after 11 months of driving while I was in mid-town NY. I took it to a dealer and they were able to repair it, but one and a half months later, the same issue occurred again. It was frustrating to have to take it back to the same dealer for another 5-day repair job. Last night, after midnight, it wouldn't start again, but thankfully it started up 40 minutes later. While it's a shame that I have to get rid of an otherwise great looking and driving automobile, the lack of reliability is just too much for me to handle.
