2006 Cadillac Cts-v problems

The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations.

Initially available as a 4-door sedan on the GM Sigma platform, GM had offered the second generation CTS in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon also using the Sigma platform — and the third generation was offered only as a sedan, using a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform. High performance sedan variants were offered for each generation, as the CTS-V — with wagon and coupe variants offered for the second generation.

Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko designed the exterior of the first generation CTS, marking the production debut of a design language marketed as "Art and Science," first used on the Evoq concept car. John Manoogian III directed the second generation CTS design. Bob Boniface and Robin Krieg designed the exterior of the third generation CTS.

The CTS ended production in 2019 and was replaced by the CT5, which shared its platform with the third and final generation of the CTS in addition to the smaller CT4.

Common 2006 Cadillac Cts-v problems

The 2006 Cadillac CTS-V has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. According to CarComplaints.com, there are over 300 NHTSA complaints and six recalls for this model year, making it one of the worst years for the Cadillac CTS-V in terms of general reliability.

One of the top three problems for the 2006 Cadillac CTS-V is coolant leaking into the transmission. This issue can lead to significant engine damage, as one CTS owner claimed that the vehicle's engine compression was lost, and it took over a month to get the engine replaced. The fix for this issue is relatively expensive, as the entire cooling system and the transmission must be replaced.

Another problem that plagued the 2006 Cadillac CTS-V was the steering wheel position sensor failure. This issue can cause the car to display a "Service Stability" message, which can result in the vehicle acting unexpectedly, such as engaging the cruise control, jerking side to side, or trying to brake. Replacing the steering wheel position sensor can cost around $100 outside of labor.

The 2006 Cadillac CTS-V also had issues with the internal engine oil cooler failure. This problem can lead to significant engine damage and may require costly repairs to fix. Additionally, the 2006 model had problems with no engine compression, which can also lead to significant engine damage and require costly repairs.

The 2006 Cadillac CTS-V also had issues with the differential, particularly in the first-gen models, but especially in the '04s and '05s, which are more prone to disaster under the strain of the Vette engine. Both LS V-8s can be thirsty for oil, but the LS6 had a valley cover prone to leaks. GM issued various recalls for the first-gen CTS-V and even offered to install the later differential in earlier cars at the owner's expense. It's worth taking any CTS-V you're looking at to a GM dealer for a thorough inspection.

In summary, the 2006 Cadillac CTS-V had several common problems, primarily related to the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. These issues can lead to significant engine damage and require costly repairs to fix. It is essential to thoroughly inspect any CTS-V you're looking at, particularly the differential and engine oil cooler, before purchasing.

Negative 2006 Cadillac Cts-v car reviews

During my first month of ownership, the radio had to be replaced. Unfortunately, the keyless entry stopped working after only 6 months. Additionally, there was a strange 'thud' noise when applying the brakes that had to be fixed - I am still not sure what caused it. The design of the car is quite low to the ground, which may be why the 'plastic' front strip became loose and I accidentally ran over it. While the engine has power, it is not equally distributed over the wheelbase, resulting in unsightly 'black' soot on my chrome wheels. Despite these issues, I still think the car looks really good. However, I do believe that it is not worth the money for all the little quirks that need to be worked out. This experience has made me reconsider purchasing another GM car in the future.

I have been driving this car for 95 days since I leased it new. What do you think, is it worth it?

Positive 2006 Cadillac Cts-v car reviews

I am so happy to be the owner of this Z06 in sheeps clothing. It has everything you could ask for - neck-snapping power, comfort, handling, and great looks. I don't baby this thing at all. In April, I put over 60 laps of hard driving at Road Atlanta, going almost 130 on the back stretch in fourth. I even did a 180 in the first turn. Even in competitive driving mode, the stability control activated and worked perfectly to get the car under control. My friends were impressed by my driving skills (if they only knew). The car never disappoints. I drove 3,300 miles on the Power Tour and didn't have a single problem, although I did wear out the tires.

  2. Zion Grant 2024-11-12

My 2005 Cadillac CTS-V is an amazing car! It has great power and handling, and the stereo is fantastic. I absolutely love the awesome acceleration it provides. When I was looking for a car, I considered the Audi S4 and BMW M5, but I got so much more for my money with the Cadillac. As a 45-year-old, I never thought I would own a Cadillac, but I'm so glad I do!

  3. Damien Quitzon 2024-11-09

I'm so glad I bought the Cadillac performance vehicle! I was really intrigued by it and it has not disappointed me at all. My wife drives a Corvette, but I actually prefer the Cadillac. I've only had to take it in for routine service and haven't had any trouble with it. The only downside I can think of is that the Goodyear tires that came with the vehicle were quite expensive to replace, even though they were great. I ended up replacing them at 11,000 miles. Overall, I would definitely buy another CTS-V!

  4. Corbin O'Kon 2024-11-03

My experience with the CTS V has been awesome. The car has excellent power yet can provide 25 mpg when necessary. This vehicle drives like it's on rails. I do wish that the nav system was touch screen like the system on other Cadillac models. Other than that, I have no complaints about this car.

  5. Monroe Kreiger 2024-10-27

Simply AWESOME! This car is quicker than an M5, has better handling, and comes with excellent Navigation/XM Radio/DVD Player. It has everything you could want from the factory. I couldn't find anything that could compete with this package. And the most odd thing? It's a Cadillac!
