1995 Buick Riviera problems
The Buick Riviera is a personal luxury car that was marketed by Buick from 1963 to 1999, with the exception of the 1994 model year.
As General Motors' first entry into the personal luxury car market segment, the Riviera was highly praised by automotive journalists upon its high-profile debut. It was a ground-up design on a new GM E platform debuting for the 1963 model year and was also Buick's first unique Riviera model.
Unlike its subsequent GM E platform stablemates, the Oldsmobile Toronado and Cadillac Eldorado, the Riviera was initially a front engine/rear-wheel drive platform, switching to front-wheel drive starting with the 1979 model year.
While the early models stayed close to their original form, eight subsequent generations varied substantially in size and styling. A total of 1,127,261 Rivieras were produced.
The Riviera name was resurrected for two concept cars that were displayed at auto shows in 2007 and in 2013.

Common 1995 Buick Riviera problems
The 1995 Buick Riviera, while a classic and powerful car, has been known to have several common problems that owners have reported. These issues range from electrical problems to transmission concerns.
One of the most frequently reported problems is related to the electrical system, specifically the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). These modules are crucial for the proper functioning of the engine and transmission. When they fail, the car may experience issues such as poor acceleration, shaking, and poor performance. In some cases, the Check Engine Light may also illuminate. It is essential to diagnose and address these issues promptly, as they can lead to more severe problems if left unattended.
Another common issue reported by owners is the transmission's performance. Some owners have reported that the car struggles to accelerate, especially when trying to speed up from low speeds. In some instances, the car may even decelerate instead of accelerating. This problem can be particularly frustrating for drivers, as it can make the car challenging to control and operate. It is possible that the transmission may need to be inspected and potentially repaired or replaced.
The 1995 Buick Riviera has also been known to have problems with oil leaks, particularly from the intake and valve covers. These leaks can result in a loss of engine oil, which can lead to severe engine damage if not addressed promptly. Regular inspections and maintenance can help identify and prevent these leaks.
In addition to these issues, some owners have reported problems with the high-pressure power steering hose, which can leak fluid and cause the power steering system to fail. This issue can make the car difficult to steer, particularly at low speeds, and can pose a safety hazard.
In summary, the 1995 Buick Riviera has several common problems that owners have reported. These issues include electrical problems related to the ICM and PCM, transmission performance concerns, oil leaks, and power steering hose leaks. Regular inspections and maintenance can help identify and prevent these issues, ensuring the car remains safe and reliable for years to come.

I really enjoy my 1996 Riveria. It has been really good to me. The only thing is that the trunk is starting to rust, but I guess that's no big deal. The interior has hardly any wear and the outside is equally perfect. I have the supercharged version and I sometimes race it, and I do really well with it. I really love this car!
-
The 1995 Buick Riviera is the ultimate in luxury and styling, often overlooked. When you look at the Riviera from the outside, you can't help but notice the flowing design and sharp curves that wrap around this beauty. And if the exterior impresses you, wait until you see the interior! The luxurious 6-way heated bucket seats and sound system are just a few of the many features that make this car stand out. The supercharged 3800 series motor provides road-burning takeoffs, easily passing other cars in a hurry without blowing your eardrums. That's right, all you hear is a soft, calming purr. This car is truly excellent and the best car I've ever encountered. It's a must-buy!
-
From the leather seats to the supercharged engine, the only thing to complain about is that you can't hear the engine roar. However, she purrs like a kitten. Although it may be a little pricey, it is definitely worth the extra comfort.
-
The car is absolutely stunning, and it always catches people's attention and generates compliments. It's a fantastic vehicle for the road, and it's incredibly fun to drive. What I appreciate the most is that I don't come across other Riviera's frequently, as it has a distinctive design.
-
Hi there! I absolutely adore driving my Riviera, especially in the year-round sunshine of Southern California. The interior is fantastic, with all the necessary controls conveniently located on the steering wheel. However, I have had some issues with this vehicle. It seems to require repairs even when it's just sitting in the garage, which has been a bit of a headache. Since purchasing it five years ago with around 64,000 miles on it, I've spent approximately $12,000 on repairs. Despite this, I still love my car!

I'm so glad you're considering a 1995 Riviera! I bought mine with only 26,000 miles on it and it was trouble-free for a while. However, between 45,000 and 70,000 miles, I did end up spending about $5,000 on repairs. Despite this, I absolutely love the styling of this car, and it's fast and has a great ride. On the highway, I was able to get an impressive 25-27 mpg. If you do decide to get one, just be prepared to spend some money on maintenance and repairs. It's definitely worth it though! I sold mine in July of 2003, but luckily they're still very reasonably priced if you're interested in buying one.

I bought this car from a lovely little old man who had driven it for under 43000 miles. Since day one, I have been supporting my local mechanic's kids' college education. Unfortunately, I have had to spend over $3000 on repairs in just two years. The air conditioner went twice (I'm in Florida!), the transmission, intake manifold, and more. Due to my experience with this car, I am hesitant to purchase another American car.
Fernando Lockman 2024-05-10
Sorry to hear about your engine trouble at 78k. The car's handling may not be what you were expecting, as it doesn't quite have a sporty feel. However, it rides well and gets decent gas mileage, especially on the highway. The exterior styling is great, but the interior could be improved for the price. It's worth noting that GM is known for having less-than-stellar interiors. The resale value may not be the highest, but if you can find a low mileage one in good condition, you can get a lot for your money. As for my engine failure, it was a fluke related to the pan leaking oil from some undercar damage that I was unaware of, which starved oil to the main bearings and spun a few out.
