Cadillac Cts-v problems
The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations.
Initially available as a 4-door sedan on the GM Sigma platform, GM had offered the second generation CTS in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon also using the Sigma platform — and the third generation was offered only as a sedan, using a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform. High performance sedan variants were offered for each generation, as the CTS-V — with wagon and coupe variants offered for the second generation.
Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko designed the exterior of the first generation CTS, marking the production debut of a design language marketed as "Art and Science," first used on the Evoq concept car. John Manoogian III directed the second generation CTS design. Bob Boniface and Robin Krieg designed the exterior of the third generation CTS.
The CTS ended production in 2019 and was replaced by the CT5, which shared its platform with the third and final generation of the CTS in addition to the smaller CT4.

Common Cadillac Cts-v problems
The Cadillac CTS-V is a high-performance luxury car that has been praised for its impressive gas mileage, affordable ownership costs, and easy maintenance. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its common problems. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues by CTS-V owners and their solutions:
- Engine Overheating: Some CTS-V owners have reported problems with their engine overheating, which can be caused by a faulty radiator, a leaking water pump, or a damaged thermostat. To fix this issue, you'll need to locate the source of the problem and replace the faulty component. This can be a bit of a challenge, as it requires some technical know-how and specialized tools. However, with the help of a mechanic or a repair manual, fixing this CTS-V problem should be a breeze.
- Oil Leaks: Another common problem with the CTS-V is oil leaks. These leaks can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out gaskets, damaged seals, or faulty oil pans. To fix this issue, you'll need to locate the source of the leak and replace the faulty component. This can be a bit of a challenge, as it requires some technical know-how and specialized tools. However, with the help of a mechanic or a repair manual, fixing this CTS-V problem should be a breeze.
- Faulty Transmission: The CTS-V's transmission is another common source of problems. Some owners have reported issues with the transmission slipping, jerking, or failing altogether. To fix this issue, you'll need to either repair or replace the faulty component. This can be a costly repair, as it requires specialized tools and knowledge to complete. However, try to get this issue resolved as soon as possible, as a faulty transmission can lead to further damage and even costlier repairs down the line.
- Malfunctioning Air Conditioning System: The CTS-V's air conditioning system is another common source of problems. Some owners have reported issues with the air conditioning blowing warm air, not blowing any air at all, or making strange noises. To fix this issue, you'll need to locate the source of the problem and repair or replace the faulty component. This can be a bit of a challenge, as it requires some technical know-how and specialized tools. However, with the help of a mechanic or a repair manual, fixing this CTS-V problem should be a breeze.
- Faulty Suspension: The CTS-V's suspension is another common source of problems. Some owners have reported issues with the suspension causing the car to bounce or vibrate excessively when driving, making it uncomfortable and potentially unsafe to drive. To fix this issue, you may need to replace the suspension components or have them repaired. This can be a more expensive repair, but it is necessary to ensure the stability and comfort of your car.
- Faulty Fuel Pump: The CTS-V's fuel pump is another common source of problems. Some owners have reported issues with the fuel pump causing the car to have difficulties starting, or run poorly when driving. To fix this issue, replace or repair the fuel pump. This is usually a more affordable repair, but it is still important to have it done as soon as the problem is diagnosed.
By staying on top of repairs and maintenance, you can ensure that your CTS-V stays reliable for years to come. If you're looking to purchase this vehicle model and are confused about whether or not the investment would be a money pit, it's important to be aware of these common problems and their solutions. With this information, you'll make an informed decision or troubleshoot and fix your CTS-V, if you're currently stuck. Plus, learning about these potential issues can help you take preventative measures to avoid future problems.
How long does a CTS-V engine last?
With proper maintenance and repairs, a Cadillac CTS can easily surpass 150,000 miles, with many users still seeing strong performance well beyond 200,000 miles without any serious problems, which makes it a great investment for your next vehicle should it meet your needs.

- Date Complaint: 2024-09-22
- VIN: 1G6AX5S37F0
- Components: STEERING,POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: The primary issue with the vehicle is the failure of the front transmission pump seal (part #24225543) and the torque converter seal ( part #242337534 ) which caused a significant transmission fluid leak. THe original repair of the torque converter seal was done in Jan 2024 by Andrews Cadillac In Mt Juliet Tn. Failure to properly repair the torque converter seal led to internal damage within the transmission, resulting in the need for a full transmission replacement. THe front pump seal was not replaced as recommended by the service repair manual at the time of the torque converter seal replacement. The faulty component is available for inspection upon request. The safety of myself and others was put at risk due to the vehicle's hesitation to accelerate after stopping, a direct consequence of the low transmission fluid. This hesitation causes a sudden loss of power while driving, increasing the likelihood of an accident. THere is a delay and then a hard shift when off , a significant bump when shifting from first to second gear and when I stop it feels like I've been rear ended by another car. The issue has been confirmed by multiple service centers, including Parker Cadillac, ORR Cadillac, and Christian Brothers Automotive, all of which identified the transmission pump seal as the source of the leak and the resulting damage to the transmission. Additionally, Christian Brothers Automotive found that the torque converter seal was also leaking, further contributing to the vehicle's transmission problems. Despite efforts to have GM engineers inspect the vehicle at ORR Cadillac, they declined. However, Christian Brothers Automotive has provided a thorough inspection and diagnostic of the .There were no warning lamps or error codes indicating the issue, as it was a mechanical failure rather than an electronic one. The symptoms became apparent when the vehicle began hesitating after coming to a stop, and a transmission fluid leak was discovered during the inspection

- Summary: My rear differential gear is failing on my 2015 Cadillac CTS luxury 2.0T. I just reached approx 69,000 miles upon returning from an approx 2,200 mile trip to the east coast from Texas. I noticed a whine like noise after my drive back to Texas that seemed to get louder and louder coming from the rear of the vehicle. I took my vehicle to Firestone for inspection and it was confirmed the rear differential was failing. i was also advised the the seal were leaking as noted in the attached report. I was shown the drain plug which had an abundance of metal shavings present to confirm. The fluid was replaced and I was advised to follow up ASAP. Upon researching the issue I discovered this is a common issue confirmed on the Cadillac forums. This issue could’ve left me stranded or worse, caused an accident as I was traveling around the Christmas and the New Year to visit family during peak travel times. There were no warning signs or indications via my vehicle warning systems nor was there any contact from my Cadillac dealer or GM representatives. My vehicle is currently available for inspection as the issue has not been resolved.

- Components: TIRES
- Summary: I purchased a Cadillac CTS 3.6, Performance Model, in late 2015 with Pirelli 245/40 R18 Pzero Run Flats as OEM tires. I replaced those tires with the exact same Pzero tires in February, 2019, after 35,250 miles on the OEM tires. I never had a problem with the OEM tires, and expected a similar driving experience and performance from the replacement Pzeros. To my surprise, the experience from the new replacement tires was completely different from the originals. I complained to the dealer on numerous occasions about the way the replacement tires rode and performed. I had the dealer re-check the front end alignment. I complained to the dealer that the tires lost air pressure to the extent of two psi per week. I complained to the dealer that the tires, as opposed to the driver, steered the car. I was at the Cadillac dealership on December 31, 2021, for a typical oil change and asked the dealer to check the front end alignment. At the time, the car had 48,458 miles on the odometer, and to my surprise, the dealer advised that there was no point in rotating and balancing the tires, or checking the alignment, because the wear on the tires was to the point of being dangerous to drive. Thus with 12,923 miles on these replacement tires, they needed replacement. I immediately complained to he tire dealer about the premature wear of the Pzero tires, They examined the tires, and agreed that there was obviously a defect resulting in the premature wear, and would file a claim with Pirelli on my behalf. I’ve heard nothing from them to date. As evidenced by the above information, please consider this a claim on my behalf, for tire defects in the Pzero tires, causing dangerous driving conditions, and premature wear shortening the life of the tires. The remaining life of the Pzero tires, the mileage shortened by the defects, amounts to $xxx, prorated, and herewith being claimed. THIS IS AN EXCERPT FROM A LETTER TO PIRELLI N.A. FURTHER INFO CAN BE FURNISHED ON REQUEST.

Great car. I've been an Audi and BMW guy for years, but I decided to give the General a try and I'm glad I did. They've really put together a complete package of luxury and power at a bargain price. If you're in the market for a luxury sports sedan, you owe it to yourself to check out this car.

I am so happy to be the owner of this Z06 in sheeps clothing. It has everything you could ask for - neck-snapping power, comfort, handling, and great looks. I don't baby this thing at all. In April, I put over 60 laps of hard driving at Road Atlanta, going almost 130 on the back stretch in fourth. I even did a 180 in the first turn. Even in competitive driving mode, the stability control activated and worked perfectly to get the car under control. My friends were impressed by my driving skills (if they only knew). The car never disappoints. I drove 3,300 miles on the Power Tour and didn't have a single problem, although I did wear out the tires.

When this car was designed, the manufacturers had all the right ideas for both performance and appearance. It's a great looking car, but unfortunately, I've had some issues with it. I bought the car new last October and have already put 50,000 km on the odometer. One month ago, they changed the supercharger, and just two weeks ago, they had to order new chims for the differential due to a recall. Today, they informed me that they need to change the transmission. Additionally, they quoted me £700 just for the front brake pads (and that's just for the parts), and £300 for the rear. All in all, given the price, I expected more reliability!

During my first month of ownership, the radio had to be replaced. Unfortunately, the keyless entry stopped working after only 6 months. Additionally, there was a strange 'thud' noise when applying the brakes that had to be fixed - I am still not sure what caused it. The design of the car is quite low to the ground, which may be why the 'plastic' front strip became loose and I accidentally ran over it. While the engine has power, it is not equally distributed over the wheelbase, resulting in unsightly 'black' soot on my chrome wheels. Despite these issues, I still think the car looks really good. However, I do believe that it is not worth the money for all the little quirks that need to be worked out. This experience has made me reconsider purchasing another GM car in the future.

This car seems to go through run-flat tires quite quickly, and unfortunately GM has not yet addressed this issue. It can be frustrating to have to spend $880 on new tires every 10k miles or less. Additionally, the differential can sometimes make a loud clanking noise, which the dealer has said is normal. On the bright side, the car is lightning fast and has good brakes. The interior does have a fair amount of plastic, but overall it's still a solid choice.

I have been driving this car for 95 days since I leased it new. What do you think, is it worth it?

When this car was designed, the manufacturers had all the right ideas for both performance and appearance. It's a great looking car, but unfortunately, I've had some issues with it. I bought the car new last October and have already put 50,000 km on the odometer. One month ago, they changed the supercharger, and just two weeks ago, they had to order new chims for the differential due to a recall. Today, they informed me that they need to change the transmission. Additionally, they quoted me £700 just for the front brake pads (and that's just for the parts), and £300 for the rear. All in all, given the price, I expected more reliability!
