The Buick Verano (Chinese: 威朗) is a compact car manufactured by SAIC-GM for the GM's Buick brand since 2010. It debuted at the North American International Auto Show on January 10, 2011, during a preview of Buick's then upcoming 2012 model. The Verano, the Buick Excelle GT, which was developed for the Chinese market, and the Opel Astra/Vauxhall Astra sedan share General Motors' Delta II platform with the Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Orlando, and Opel/Vauxhall Zafira Tourer. In the US, it was manufactured by General Motors from 2012 to 2017.

Jim Federico, Executive Director and Vehicle Chief Engineer for Verano, led the vehicle development team and David Lyon, Buick design director, styled the exterior.
The Verano is essentially a North American-market version of the Chinese-market compact Buick Excelle GT. The Verano's unibody construction uses galvanized steel for its front fenders, hood, roof and door panels and thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) bumper covers. It incorporates acoustical laminated glass, triple door seals, a five-layer interior roof liner, sound absorbing mats, recycled denim insulation and specially manufactured 18-inch forged alloy wheels, which minimize road noise. Buick's VentiPorts reappeared at the Verano's introduction, a styling feature unique to Buick dating back to 1949.
The standard powertrain is a 2.4 L Ecotec direct-injected DOHC I4 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4 L engine is rated 180 horsepower (130 kW; 180 PS) at 6,700 rpm and 171 lb⋅ft (232 N⋅m; 24 kg⋅m) of torque at 4,900 rpm. The engine is flex-fuel capable, meaning it can use either gasoline, or E85 ethanol (2012–13) • 2.4L, or any combination of the two fuels. EPA fuel economy estimates are 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp) city and 32 mpg‑US (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg‑imp) highway for gasoline. A 2012 on-road mixed highway-city review by the website MPGOMATIC showed an average 26.5 mpg‑US (8.9 L/100 km; 31.8 mpg‑imp) on E85, and 29 mpg‑US (8.1 L/100 km; 35 mpg‑imp) for gasoline.
A 2.0 L turbocharged version became available in late 2012, for the 2013 model year, as did a 6-speed manual transmission. The 2.0 L turbo engine is rated at 250 horsepower (186 kW; 253 PS) and 260 lb⋅ft (353 N⋅m; 36 kg⋅m) of torque. GM estimated acceleration from 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) is 6.2 seconds, matching the number posted by the Buick Regal GS.
For 2016, the Verano added a new Sport Touring Edition which included unique 18″ aluminum black pocket wheels and a rear lip spoiler.
The Verano was phased out from the US market after the 2017 model year. The second generation Verano is sold exclusively in China, leaving Buick without an entry-level sedan in the US market.

- Summary: Vehicle is consuming oil at an excessive rate (with still less than 70000 miles on the odometer) and I have had to keep a close watch on the levels. It is burning a quart right now about every 1400 miles and the problem is only likely to get worse with time. This could cause the engine to fail or catch fire while operating the vehicle, which is quite dangerous, especially at interstate speeds or on mountain roads. Buick has not issued a recall, and yet there is a service bulletin dating from 2016 (Bulletin No.: 13-06-01-003H). I have also read many complaints from other Verano owners about this problem. An engine is one of the most expensive parts of any vehicle, and if Buick will not voluntarily recall this model year to make the needed repairs, the NTSB ought to take a hand in getting a recall of affected vehicles. I don't want to risk my life on the road if this engine fails while the vehicle is in operation.

Now a passenger can shift weight slightly one way or another and cause the indicator status to change which disables the airbag. Dealer also confirmed (4/16/24) DTC code B0081(internal malfunction with passenger presence module). I have recently learned there was a warranty extension for this failure (which had expired) which I was unaware of. I now have a vehicle which I feel is unsafe to travel with a passenger! If GM is aware of the problem and the dealer (imperial Chevrolet) has charged me $160 diagnostic fee for a known problem and tells me it will cost approx. $1,800 to repair/replace the sensor and module.

Steering happened 1 other time we were during and within a 1/2 mile it came back.

As a lifelong car enthusiast, I have owned several classic cars as daily drivers leading up to my purchase of a gently used 2016 Buick Verano Turbo. It is loaded with nearly every option available and beautiful white diamond tricoat paint. Despite being the newest car I've owned by nearly 20 years, it has exceeded my expectations. I chose the Verano for its general characteristics coupled with its great price (half of MSRP with only 20k miles and nearly two years left on the powertrain warranty). In just over half a year, I've put another 14k miles on the car, including two trips up and down the California coast and one from California to Yellowstone that included 2,500 miles of driving in 10 days. The Verano Turbo is engaging because it has enough power throughout its range to make it fun off the line or quick about passing. It is confident around twisty roads and urban cornering, and the steering is centered and responsive. When cornering hard, the rear end can swing out rather easily, which I personally find entertaining and controllable. Although there are some little rattles in my car's cabin, such as the driver's seat belt adjuster vibrating just behind my ear and something else doing similarly in the rear passenger area, the Verano's fit and finish is impressive. Overall, I am confident in my choice of the Verano Turbo and would highly recommend it to others.Hard acceleration at low speeds can cause the front wheels to lose traction and the car to bob around, which can be disconcerting. The car rattles more over uneven pavement, giving it a typical compact car feel rather than a luxury sedan. Despite my careful driving, my fuel economy in mixed driving with lots of highway or country road (55mph) commuting has been a lackluster 26-27mph, which is disappointing. However, the rear seats fold down to allow for larger items to be transported, and the regular trunk space has plenty of room for luggage for two, even on a ten-day trip. Buick's Intellilink infotainment system works easily and assuredly, and my Android phone connects promptly. The Bose sound system has a crisp quality, but could be louder. Comfort and safety options such as the heated front seats, rear camera, and parking sensors create a cozy feeling in the compact cabin, which maintains an airy and slightly larger feel due to the light-colored leather upholstery. While the Verano Turbo was everything I wanted in a new car for a while, as a driving enthusiast, I'm already finding the niggling issues with interior quality and overall lack of engagement to have me searching for something more engaging. In hindsight, and true to the numerous reviewers' words from when the Verano Turbo was still new, I think that an enthusiast should consider something like an Audi or BMW that's just a couple of years older with slightly higher mileage. My Verano has been totally reliable and presently everything indicates that it will be for years to come, but for a truly great experience, sacrifices must be made!I am willing to pay more to maintain a high-quality automobile, rather than settling for a compromise in performance and luxury. The Buick Verano Turbo may have been marketed as a compromise, but I believe in investing in a vehicle that truly meets my standards.

I'm so glad I decided to give the Buick a chance! After test driving several midsize cars and encountering issues with each one, I was pleasantly surprised by the positive reviews of this car. As soon as I got behind the wheel of the turbo, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. The amount of features you get on a turbo sedan for under $30K out the door is truly amazing. Even after searching for any flaws, I could hardly find any. While some may find the rear leg room limited, it's not a problem for me.

The Verano is based on the same GM platform as the Chevy Cruze Limited, but it feels like a completely different car. You'll feel greater power right off the bat. No, it's not sports-car-Camaro power, but I disagree with the Edmunds review that acceleration is merely adequate. The Verano feels more powerful than either the Cruze Limited or the new Cruze for 2016, possibly because the entire car feels much more solid, thus dissipating less energy in parasitic vibrations. The Verano gives you a sure, solid feeling on the road. An important contributor toward that end is the stark difference in steering and handling between any of the Cruze models and the Verano. The short of it is that the Cruze - particularly the newly redesigned 2016 Cruze - feels incredibly insecure and unstable during fast acceleration or highway speeds, while the Verano is almost the opposite of that. Its steering and handling feel stable and secure, with only a mere trace of lost control to clue you into the fact that it's built with electronic - rather than traditional mechanical - steering. To take the point further, compared to any of the [now many] Cruzes, the Verano is rock solid. With the handling nicely under control, the suspension provides an excellent combination of road feel balanced against absorptive comfort. In other words, it handles beautifully, without turning you into scrambled eggs while doing so. The interior is, as you'd expect, at or near luxury car levels. It's quiet and plush. Some might object to the two-tone white-on-black color scheme [Buick calls the interior grey - but it's pretty much white], but that seems to be the thing with luxury cars. The designers of the Verano did, however, make one major mistake. The steering wheel blocks your view of the instrument gauge cluster. No matter how far you tilt it up or down, you're just not going to see the speedometer, nor much else of your gauges.They seemed to have taken great care with the design of the car, but unfortunately, there were some issues. Good luck with speed cops on the road. Another minor issue is a matter of personal taste. The front grill is almost aggressively tasteless, with Buick taking its vertical design a bit too far. The grill extends upwards and folds into the hood, and it's made of plastic. So, you get a lot of plastic grill in your face every time you approach your car. Overall, I thought the Verano was a very nice small vehicle that, at least as far as driving impressions go, leaves its stablemate Cruze well behind and makes the Corolla and the 2016 Civic almost non-competitive (especially the almost shockingly crude, cheap-feeling, and sounding Corolla). The other question is, of course, reliability, and it's only on that measure that the latter two may (or may not - who knows?) have an edge.

I hope your son enjoys his used Verano! It's great to hear that it comes with plenty of safety features and offers a smooth ride. I do agree that the side mirrors could be bigger, but overall it sounds like a great car.

The Verano is an absolute joy to drive, especially with the radio off and the climate control turned down low. When using Bluetooth on the phone, most people don't even realize that I'm driving on the highway. The laminated front glass areas are a testament to the manufacturer's attention to detail, as they do an excellent job of eliminating wind noise. The ride is both smooth and quiet, yet sporty when you need it to be. The steering is incredibly responsive, and it matches the responsiveness of the brakes. Even with the AC blasting, the highway fuel economy exceeds EPA estimates. The seats are perfect for long trips, as the foam density is among the best I've recently experienced, yet they still hug you for a sporty feel. Update: We needed an automatic transmission and AWD, so we traded it for a Cadillac ATS 2.0T. The Verano was worth what we owed on it. I can't say the same about Cadillac, but the ATS is still a dream to drive and handles so well. Update II: While I love the AWD and the styling of the ATS, I do miss the vault-like quietness and those cushy seats of the Verano.

While driving my 2015 Verano on the highway at 75 MPH, my car suddenly shut off, even though I had 3/4 of a tank of gas. The experience was quite frightening, especially with an 18-wheeler behind me honking its horn. Fortunately, I was going downhill at the time. I took my car to the dealer, who conducted a free analysis, but no codes came back. Despite being told that nothing was wrong with my car, I expressed my discomfort with it. The dealer offered to trade my car in, but with a $7000 depreciation, which was a significant loss considering I had only purchased it 7 months ago. I left feeling undervalued and disappointed that my safety was not prioritized.

I purchased my Verano back in April 2012 and I must say, I really enjoy the comfort it provides, especially on long drives. The styling is also impressive and can easily be compared to cars that are several thousands more expensive. However, I would like to mention that it is a bit under-powered, not extremely weak, but not as quick as a Camry for instance. Additionally, I noticed black soot at the tailpipe within 2 months of purchase. I took it to the dealer's service manager twice and he informed me that he contacted GM about it. Unfortunately, there is little that can be done as it has to do with valve timing. Although this may be a disappointment, I do not believe it qualifies as a

In 2015, I purchased a brand new car from Faulkner Buick and for the first three years, I had no complaints except for the car's take-off speed. However, starting in May of this year, I have experienced major problems with the car. Although it has high mileage (130,000), I have another car with more miles and have never had any major issues with it. Unfortunately, this Buick has been nothing but trouble. I had to replace the catalytic converter for about $500-600, followed by the camshaft, belt, and timing sensor for about $6-700. After getting these parts replaced, my car stopped moving on me mid-drive with no warning. I had it towed back to Faulkner, where they informed me that the check engine light was for the transmission. While it is frustrating to have a transmission issue, I am confident that it is not a common occurrence. I am currently waiting for a replacement transmission, which is on backorder. Although it is unfortunate that I have to pay for the service without any discounts or courtesy vehicles, I am still satisfied with my decision to purchase this car. I believe that the transmission issue is an isolated incident and I would still recommend this vehicle to others. I have had some expensive issues with my car, including the recent replacement of the blower which cost around $800. Despite the cost, I have invested a lot of money into the car because I am on payments, and it will be paid off next year. I am confident that I can handle any future repairs that may arise. While I have had some issues with my current Buick, I am not deterred from considering an upgrade to an Enclave. I understand that every car model can have its own unique issues, and I am willing to take that risk. I am currently experiencing some issues with the gear shift, but I am taking the necessary steps to have it replaced. I am confident that I can afford this replacement and any future repairs that may be necessary. Overall, I am satisfied with my current car and am looking forward to the future with confidence.
