The Buick Verano (Chinese: 威朗) is a compact car manufactured by SAIC-GM for the GM's Buick brand since 2010. It debuted at the North American International Auto Show on January 10, 2011, during a preview of Buick's then upcoming 2012 model. It is the first compact marketed by Buick in the United States since the 1998 Buick Skylark. Verano is Spanish for summer.
The Verano, the Buick Excelle GT, which was developed for the Chinese market, and the Opel Astra/Vauxhall Astra sedan share General Motors' Delta II platform with the Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Orlando, and Opel/Vauxhall Zafira Tourer. In the US, it was manufactured by General Motors from 2012 to 2017.
First generation (2011)
Jim Federico, Executive Director and Vehicle Chief Engineer for Verano, led the vehicle development team and David Lyon, Buick design director, styled the exterior.
The Verano is essentially a North American-market version of the Chinese-market compact Buick Excelle GT. The Verano's unibody construction uses galvanized steel for its front fenders, hood, roof and door panels and thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) bumper covers. It incorporates acoustical laminated glass, triple door seals, a five-layer interior roof liner, sound absorbing mats, recycled denim insulation and specially manufactured 18-inch forged alloy wheels, which minimize road noise. Buick's VentiPorts reappeared at the Verano's introduction, a styling feature unique to Buick dating back to 1949.
The standard powertrain is a 2.4 L Ecotec direct-injected DOHC I4 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4 L engine is rated 180 horsepower (130 kW; 180 PS) at 6,700 rpm and 171 lb⋅ft (232 N⋅m; 24 kg⋅m) of torque at 4,900 rpm. The engine is flex-fuel capable, meaning it can use either gasoline, or E85 ethanol (2012–13) • 2.4L, or any combination of the two fuels. EPA fuel economy estimates are 21 mpg‑US (11 L/100 km; 25 mpg‑imp) city and 32 mpg‑US (7.4 L/100 km; 38 mpg‑imp) highway for gasoline. A 2012 on-road mixed highway-city review by the website MPGOMATIC showed an average 26.5 mpg‑US (8.9 L/100 km; 31.8 mpg‑imp) on E85, and 29 mpg‑US (8.1 L/100 km; 35 mpg‑imp) for gasoline.
A 2.0 L turbocharged version became available in late 2012, for the 2013 model year, as did a 6-speed manual transmission. The 2.0 L turbo engine is rated at 250 horsepower (186 kW; 253 PS) and 260 lb⋅ft (353 N⋅m; 36 kg⋅m) of torque. GM estimated acceleration from 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) is 6.2 seconds, matching the number posted by the Buick Regal GS.
For 2016, the Verano added a new Sport Touring Edition which included unique 18″ aluminum black pocket wheels and a rear lip spoiler.
The Verano was phased out from the US market after the 2017 model year. The second generation Verano is sold exclusively in China, leaving Buick without an entry-level sedan in the US market.

- Summary: My vehicle was rear ended and when the wire connection was detached there was signs of corrosion cause by moisture. The insurance company wont pay for it because the Buick mechanic said this is a common issue with Buick Verano's. When moisture gets into the connectors all instruments on the dashboard goes haywire. it's my belief that this may cause the car to stall and if that happens no power steering or no power breaks.

- Summary: Took my car in due to the paint being damaged by normal sunlight just on my hood, roof and trunk lid was told that it looked like it was just scratched, if that was the case wouldn't my whole car looked like that. Heard back from the dealership auto body manager admitting that gm had messed up the clear coat when it came to the dark color vehicles. Said nothing could be done due to it being out of manufacturer warranty and that my extend warranty wouldn't cover it along with the extra care package that was separate that the dealership had offer that I purchased even though it included oxidation protection.

- Summary: Radio/Infotainment would turn itself off and then back on while driving and heat/ac would do the same. Then service side detection system alert would come up on screen. Heat stopped working 90% of the time which wasn't safe during winter when I needed the defrost on. Multiple times had to wipe windshield to get condensation off while driving due to no defrost working. Took it to the shop and replaced left sensor due to corrosion (waited a week for the part) and less than a week later the right sensor (waited a month for the part)stopped working. I was then advised if you replaced one sensor the other with fail if not replaced at the same time. How? Why? Because sensors are $755 a piece that's why. I live alone and am the sole bread winner and this made it extremely difficult to get to work. Add on the $2,500.00 to repair. I wouldn't have bothered to repair it but I needed defrost for safety reasons. Ridiculous that these things are married together in a system that isn't protected at all from the elements and the manufacturer is aware of this. Complete rip off and money grab.

- Summary: Not sure if this is a safety problem or is just a freak, isolated incident. In either case, I am reporting this since it might impact vehicles other than just my own. I own a 2015 Buick Verano. On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, upon parking my car, I noticed that my driver’s door wasn’t closing correctly. There was a small gap preventing it from closing flush. Upon inspection, it became apparent what was causing the problem: The door lock striker plate had pulled away from the doorframe post to which it was anchored. It was secured by two Phillips head screws. My attempt to tighten same was for naught, the screws kept spinning. Fortunately, the door lock striker plate was still operable since it hadn’t pulled away from the post for more than a fraction of an inch, so my door latch was able to catch on to it, but that fraction of an inch was enough to cause the gap when I closed the door. I took the car the next day to a Buick dealer and they referred me to a nearby body shop. The owner looked at the problem and concurred with my initial assessment. He said that in all his years in the field he had never encountered a problem like that. Fortunately, he was able to get the latch striker to lay flush against the column, but he did say it could happen again. So, coming full circle, as I said up front, I don’t know if this is a systemic problem affecting other Buick vehicles from that year, or if it was just an isolate incident. But I guess recall issues have to start somewhere. Rather be safe than sorry, hence my putting this in you court.

- Summary: The Service Side Detection System (SSDS) maintenance light appears on my dashboard and remains unless I cancel it out by pressing the menu button on the turning signal. Both sides of the vehicle cannot accurately detect when vehicles are approaching and passing…the SSDS indicator lights in the side mirrors come on and off randomly. Currently, my left mirror indicator light remains lit even when the vehicle is turned off. The problem started with my fan…it stopped blowing air. I made a stop and when I restarted my vehicle the fan started again. This problem started about 6-8 months ago. Now…it is getting worst…I am getting errors on all my systems when I start my car. Yesterday, I couldn’t turn my car off…finally when I did, I couldn’t start it. I was not able to engage the brake pedal and couldn’t turn over the vehicle. I remote started the vehicle; however, when I tried to actually start the vehicle by pressing the Engine start button it would not turn to green…now, unable to turn over the car completely and again unable to turn off the car I utilized the remote to shut the engine off. This morning, engine turned on and only the SSDS light came on and Theft Detection…fan blower going off and on randomly. A recall is needed.

GAUGES GOING BACK AND FOURTH CONSTANTLY, RADIO TURNED OFF, FANS TURNED OFF, AND BLIND SPOTS KEPT BLINKING. THE MECHANIC FOUND A CORROSION ISSUE. THEY WERE ABLE TO UNPLUG IT BUT IT ALSO MADE IT SO MY REAR BRAKE LIGHT ON THE RIGHT WOULD NOT WORK (WHICH IS ILLEGAL). IT WOULD COST ME OVER $1,000 TO FIX THIS ISSUE SINCE THE CORROSION ISN'T COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. THIS VEHICLE WAS MADE WITH A FAULTY ITEM GOING OUT OF THE FACTORY THAT WAY. THE BLINKERS DO NOT WORK, HEATED SEATS (THOUGH THAT IS MINOR) RADIO STOPS WORKING. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE TEMPERATURE OF THE ENGINE IS, HOW MUCH FUEL WE HAVE AND HOW FAST WE ARE GOING. THERE IS ONLY 68,800 MILES ON IT. WHEN I CALL THE DEALERSHIP (THEY'RE THE ONLY ONES WITH THE TECHNOLOGY TO LOOK AT THIS AND TROUBLESHOOT) THEY TELL ME IT'S A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS JUST TO RUN DIAGNOSTICS. THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT THE CAR IS THIS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BUT I HAVE TO PAY TO DIAGNOSE IT. THEN I FIND OUT JUST TO REPLACE THE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM WILL COST ME LIKE $700. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO FIX THIS BIGGER ISSUE. - Summary: BOTH SIDE DETECTION SENSORS OF MY 2015 BUICK VERANO ARE BOTH INOPERATIVE IN UNDER 5 YEARS AFTER PURCHASING BRAND NEW VEHICLE. "SERVICE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM" MESSAGE PERSISTS. GM MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS WATER PRESENT IN MOUNTING BRACKETS FOR BOTH MODULES AND THERE IS NO COMMUNICATION WITH EITHER ONE. CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ACCIDENTS AND SERVICE ADVISOR AGREED THAT PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW. THERE IS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE TO INDICATE A PROBLEM, SINCE THE SENSORS ARE HIDDEN. SENSOR MODULE FAILURE SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN GM PRODUCTS, SINCE I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A NATIONAL SHORTAGE ON SENSOR MODULES AND THAT REPAIR WOULD HAVE TO HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE. REPAIR ESTIMATED AT $1200+. AFTER I EXPRESSED MY DISSATISFACTION TO THE SERVICE ADVISOR, I WAS TOLD THAT GM WAS WILLING TO REDUCE THE REPAIR COST BY $337. I REFUSED THE REPAIR, SINCE I BELIEVE THIS SAFETY EQUIPMENT FAILED AS A RESULT OF THE DESIGN AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY GM.

COMING ON WHEN THERE WAS NO VEHICLE IN MY BLIND SPOT, AND NOT COMING ON AS IT SHOULD. AFTER NOTICING THAT, THE SERVICE SIDE DETECTION MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE CENTER COUNSEL. I CONTACTED THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME IT'S A VERY COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE PLACEMENT OF THE SENSOR MODULES IN THE BUMPER THAT COLLECT WATER, SNOW, SALT AND CAUSES CORROSION. A VERY POOR DESIGN FOR A SAFETY FEATURE! APPROXIMATELY $1,000 TO FIX! I DID PURCHASE AN AFTER MARKET WARRANTY WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT I BELIEVE IT WILL NOT COVER THIS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A CLAUSE ABOUT CORROSION. I DECIDED TO JUST TURN OFF THE FEATURE FROM THE SETTING PANEL AND JUST CALL IT A DAY, SEEING I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 50 YEARS AND NEVER HAD TO RELY ON A SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM TO VIEW MY BLIND SPOT. NOW I GET TWO MESSAGES WHEN I START THE CAR'SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM IS OFF, AND SERVICE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM. WELL ANYWAY, YESTERDAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE RIGHT-SIDE MIRROR CAME ON, BUT THE SYSTEM WAS OFF. THE LIGHT STILL STAYED ON EVEN WITH THE CAR SHUT OFF. AFTER A WHILE OF DRIVING AND TURNING ON AND OFF THE SYSTEM FROM THE SETTINGS, THE LIGHT FINALLY WENT OFF. WHY WOULD THAT LIGHT COME ON WHEN I MANUALLY TURNED OFF THE SYSTEM? DO I NEED TO PULL THE FUSE FOR THE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM? I AM JUST AFRAID THAT THIS IS GOING TO CREATE OTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLES ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND BECOME A SAFETY PROBLEM. THERE WAS A SPECIAL PROGRAM GM INITIATED IN APRIL OF 2019 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BUT ONLY FOR THE CHEVY CRUZE. THE BUICK VERANO AND CHEVY CRUZE ARE BASICALLY THE SAME CAR. This car is truly amazing! The build quality is top-notch, with perfect panel gaps and an incredible black paint job that always receives compliments. I've owned several luxury cars in the past, including BMW 7 series, Corvette, Lexus, and Miata, but none of them come close to the combination of handling, quiet interior, convenience, performance, and economy that this car offers. The styling and design are also fantastic, and I love how comfortable the front seats are, especially during long trips. The car also comes equipped with many great features, such as 2 zone temperature control, satellite radio, front crash and blind spot warning, and a large trunk. I'm also impressed with the powerful engine and the fact that I can get 32 mpg at 80 mph. On my last trip, I even hauled a 600# trunk load of books, plus luggage, 3,000 miles up and over mountains, around sharp curves, and the car responded beautifully! One of the design choices I really appreciate is how the transmission is set up - when you touch the gas, you get immediate acceleration with no lag, and when you touch the brake, the transmission downshifts to help brake the car. Although it took some time to adjust the electric driver's seat settings to keep my thighs from getting pinched and sore, I'm now completely comfortable in the car. The only minor issue I've encountered is a blind spot caused by the passenger side windshield/roof pillar, but it's something I've gotten used to. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the quality of this car and have had nothing but positive experiences with it so far!

We have owned our 14 Verano Leather for almost 5 years. The car has been a great ride with comfortable seats and excellent mileage. Despite putting over 60k miles on it, the only issue we encountered was a wonky blind spot sensor/system. Overall, the car has performed exceptionally well.

I can tell you that I absolutely love the style of Buick cars! Did you know that the Buick family were the designers of Cadillac Automobiles before starting their own company? My Verano is amazing when it comes to gas mileage. I drove from Florida to New York City and averaged 379 miles on a tank of gas. Using cruise control as much as possible extends fuel economy. The cabin is so spacious, it can easily accommodate five adults. And the trunk is just as impressive, fitting two full-sized suitcases plus smaller luggage with ease. I've owned the car for three years now and I'm happy to say that I haven't had a single breakdown!

In 2015, I purchased a brand new car from Faulkner Buick and for the first three years, I had no complaints except for the car's take-off speed. However, starting in May of this year, I have experienced major problems with the car. Although it has high mileage (130,000), I have another car with more miles and have never had any major issues with it. Unfortunately, this Buick has been nothing but trouble. I had to replace the catalytic converter for about $500-600, followed by the camshaft, belt, and timing sensor for about $6-700. After getting these parts replaced, my car stopped moving on me mid-drive with no warning. I had it towed back to Faulkner, where they informed me that the check engine light was for the transmission. While it is frustrating to have a transmission issue, I am confident that it is not a common occurrence. I am currently waiting for a replacement transmission, which is on backorder. Although it is unfortunate that I have to pay for the service without any discounts or courtesy vehicles, I am still satisfied with my decision to purchase this car. I believe that the transmission issue is an isolated incident and I would still recommend this vehicle to others. I have had some expensive issues with my car, including the recent replacement of the blower which cost around $800. Despite the cost, I have invested a lot of money into the car because I am on payments, and it will be paid off next year. I am confident that I can handle any future repairs that may arise. While I have had some issues with my current Buick, I am not deterred from considering an upgrade to an Enclave. I understand that every car model can have its own unique issues, and I am willing to take that risk. I am currently experiencing some issues with the gear shift, but I am taking the necessary steps to have it replaced. I am confident that I can afford this replacement and any future repairs that may be necessary. Overall, I am satisfied with my current car and am looking forward to the future with confidence.

I have been driving this Verano for 3 weeks and I must say, it has been an interesting experience. While it is a company car and I am grateful for that, I don't think I would personally buy it. The rear seats may not be the most spacious for adults and the trunk lid doesn't open as much as I would like, which can be a bit of a hassle. Additionally, I have to be careful not to hit my head on the trunk lid, which can be painful. However, I have been able to adjust the steering to a comfortable level, although it does block out the temperature and fuel gauge, as well as the top of the speedometer. In terms of fuel efficiency, I am averaging 26-27mpg over a combination of interstate and rural US highways. It's worth noting that Buick no longer offers this vehicle, but I am still grateful for the opportunity to drive it.

This is my 5th Buick. I've had two Regals and two Park Avenue's. I chose the Lacross initially because I wanted a car with extra space, but I find this car just as luxurious and comfortable. It's packed with safety features and despite being a compact car, it rides and feels like a full-size car. If you're a Buick enthusiast, this car will definitely meet, if not exceed, your expectations.
