2023 Bmw X7 problems

The BMW X7 is a full-sized luxury sport utility vehicle manufactured by BMW. It is BMW's largest and 2nd most expensive SUV in its line-up.

The X7 was first announced by BMW in March 2014. It was officially unveiled on October 17, 2018, with pre-orders being taken online. The X7 has been available at dealers since March 2019.

Launch and development

BMW provided a preview of the upcoming X7 with the showing of the Concept X7 iPerformance at the 2017 International Motor Show in Frankfurt. Production of the X7 started in 2018 at the BMW US Manufacturing Company plant in Greer, South Carolina.

The X7 is built on the same BMW CLAR platform as the G05 X5, however the X7 is taller and wider plus it has been stretched for increased cargo space and third row seating which is standard and more spacious for adults (the X5's third row seating, which is optional, is mainly for children). In contrast to the X5, it is not available with rear-wheel drive, instead using an all-wheel drive (xDrive) drivetrain for all models. In Europe, diesel and petrol engines are available, while the choice is limited to inline-6 and V8 petrol engines in the United States.

The G07 features a self-levelling air suspension system, with a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. It can be raised or lowered by 40 mm (1.6 in) and will automatically lower the car by 20 mm (0.8 in) at speeds of over 138 km/h (86 mph). The boot capacity is rated at 326 litres (11.5 cu ft), and 2,120 litres (75 cu ft) with the seats folded down.

All petrol and diesel models feature engine particulate filters and meet the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard. The xDrive50i model is available outside the European markets, while the European markets will get the M50i models.

In July 2019, a pickup truck concept car was unveiled, though not intended for production.

Common 2023 Bmw X7 problems

The BMW X7, a full-size luxury SUV, has been reported to have several common problems by its owners. These issues range from minor inconveniences to significant safety concerns.

One of the most frequently reported problems is related to the headlight system. Some BMW X7 owners have experienced automatic headlights that remain activated, even during daylight hours. This can lead to rapid battery drain and potential electrical issues.

Another common issue is wheel corrosion. The BMW X7 features branded alloy wheels that are prone to corrosion, which can negatively impact the vehicle's appearance and resale value.

A more serious problem reported by BMW X7 owners is related to the fuel pump. The high-pressure fuel pump in some X7 models has a defect that can result in poor acceleration, contributing to transmission slips and engine failure. If you notice difficulty accelerating your X7, especially uphill or when carrying a heavy load, a defective fuel pump may be the culprit.

In terms of safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 22 recalls for the BMW X7, addressing various issues. These include a defective knee airbag that may not deploy properly in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Exterior lighting problems have also been reported, with only one of the front parking lights illuminating in certain X7 models. This issue led BMW to issue a recall to replace the defective parking light on affected vehicles free of charge.

Some X7 models have been found to have a seat backrest that is not installed correctly, which could dislodge or detach during an accident, posing a serious risk to drivers.

Lastly, the sunroof function in some X7 models has not been programmed correctly, causing the sunroof to close even when the driver does not have their key fob near the vehicle. This issue prompted BMW to issue a recall to address the problem.

These issues highlight the importance of reporting any problems with your BMW X7 to the manufacturer or dealer as soon as possible. If the manufacturer or dealer fails to address the issue within a reasonable time frame, you may be able to file a lemon law claim against them.

SERVICE BRAKES,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-16
  • VIN: 5UX23EM08P9
  • Components: SERVICE BRAKES,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: While coming to red lights or exiting the freeway I notice the brakes not braking while I press on the pedal. I have to push the pedal with extreme force to get it to stop. I was luckily able to stop it in time. My x7 braking systems reaction timing is not consistent, I feel like I am putting my family at risk if my wife is driving, or if someone else is driving and they cant hit the brakes with the extra force that the car requires sometimes. I have driven many car and have never had a car with inconsistent braking effort needed to stop.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-06-29
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 5UX23EM00P9
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: On June 29th, 2023 at approximately 8:45 AM we were pulling into a parking space slowly tapping the brakes to slow and stop the vehicle. About 2/3 of the way into the parking stall around 3 or 4 feet from the curb, the vehicle actually accelerated while pressing the brake jumping the curb. We pressed on the brakes again and the car accelerated even faster crossing the sidewalk crashing into a building. We believe the brakes caused the SUA (Sudden Unintended Acceleration) accelerating the vehicle twice and the vehicle failed to apply the brakes. We believe this would've been caused by a computer error on the vehicle. We also believe the vehicle to initiate the two safety systems failed, Crash Imminent Braking & Dynamic Brake Support thus being able to avoid the accident. To the best of our knowledge, no warnings or alerts were displayed on the vehicle before the crash. We had BMW inspect the vehicle and no defective part was found and the black box indicated the vehicle was accelerating a few seconds before the crash. We do not disagree with this and informed BMW that the car was accelerating on it's own.

Negative 2023 Bmw X7 car reviews

I received my vehicle in December of 22 and took it in for service in March due to noise in the brakes. However, I was told that it was normal and to give it time to break in. The oil change notification also popped up on the dash when it was not yet time to change, and the SOS malfunction light keeps appearing on the dash. Unfortunately, the brakes still have the same issue. Last month, I took the vehicle in because it was lunging forward while driving, and it turned out that the vehicle needed a transmission replacement at only fourteen thousand miles. After picking up the vehicle, I noticed that my windshield wipers were knocking on the driver's side, but I was told that it had nothing to do with the transmission. I took it back for the brake noise, but as of today, the problem persists. On Sunday, while coming back from church, the screen went blank all by itself. I drove home with a blank screen, turned off the vehicle, waited for about ten minutes, and decided to start it again. The screen came back on, but I am still concerned. I called my service advisor, and I was told to bring it in. I have an appointment for tomorrow and will keep you posted.

We're so happy with our new car! We were pleasantly surprised by how quiet and quick the inline 6 is. It's a true Autobahn cruiser.

The X7 M60i exceeded my expectations by far. I upgraded my 2019 X5 m-pack to this to be able to take long trips with my daily and dogs with luxury and performance and I got it all to perfection. The performance is excellent, and the UI is easy to navigate. The seating is super comfortable in all three rows, with the second row having captains seats. The Bowers & Wilkins audio system is also worth mentioning, as its sound truly puts you in the studio or concert hall. It's the best BMW I've owned so far, and I've owned about a dozen of them. If you drive it, you will feel the difference!

The X7 is a great vehicle for its price point. Despite its size, it handles well, although certain maneuvers may require some anticipation. The build quality is solid and the interior is as quiet as a library. While the IDrive 8 system may be a bit of a learning curve, once you become familiar with it, you'll be fine. However, it can be frustrating that many features are hidden in menus and the climate control functionality is not user-friendly. As for reliability, it's too early to tell since I've only had it for 3 months. Overall, the X7 is a tech powerhouse with good driving dynamics.

    Luxurious, reliable, elegant, and fun.

  5. Karson Klocko 2024-07-29

We've had this vehicle for a month now and we couldn't be happier. The massage seats are a great addition and the only downside is that sometimes I feel so comfortable that I could take a nap. I absolutely love this car!
