Bmw X7 problems
The BMW X7 is a full-sized luxury sport utility vehicle manufactured by BMW. It is BMW's largest and 2nd most expensive SUV in its line-up.
The X7 was first announced by BMW in March 2014. It was officially unveiled on October 17, 2018, with pre-orders being taken online. The X7 has been available at dealers since March 2019.
Launch and development
BMW provided a preview of the upcoming X7 with the showing of the Concept X7 iPerformance at the 2017 International Motor Show in Frankfurt. Production of the X7 started in 2018 at the BMW US Manufacturing Company plant in Greer, South Carolina.
The X7 is built on the same BMW CLAR platform as the G05 X5, however the X7 is taller and wider plus it has been stretched for increased cargo space and third row seating which is standard and more spacious for adults (the X5's third row seating, which is optional, is mainly for children). In contrast to the X5, it is not available with rear-wheel drive, instead using an all-wheel drive (xDrive) drivetrain for all models. In Europe, diesel and petrol engines are available, while the choice is limited to inline-6 and V8 petrol engines in the United States.
The G07 features a self-levelling air suspension system, with a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension. It can be raised or lowered by 40 mm (1.6 in) and will automatically lower the car by 20 mm (0.8 in) at speeds of over 138 km/h (86 mph). The boot capacity is rated at 326 litres (11.5 cu ft), and 2,120 litres (75 cu ft) with the seats folded down.
All petrol and diesel models feature engine particulate filters and meet the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard. The xDrive50i model is available outside the European markets, while the European markets will get the M50i models.
In July 2019, a pickup truck concept car was unveiled, though not intended for production.

What are the drawbacks of BMW X7?
However, BMW doesn't offer a massage function, and given the segment this SUV caters to, I feel that's a big miss. In fact, the bigger letdown is that the second-row seats get none of these creature comforts because I feel a lot of the owners would like to be chauffeured around in this X7.
Is the BMW X7 a good car to buy?
Buying & owning
Likewise, if you don't need that many seats but like the rest of the X7 package, you might be better off with the cheaper but still excellent BMW X5. However, if you're looking for maximum space, versatility and luxury, the X7 is untouchable – and a far better buy than the similar-sized Mercedes GLS.
Is the BMW X7 expensive to maintain?
BMW X7 Maintenance Costs
A BMW X7 will cost about $18,550 for maintenance and repairs during its first 10 years of service. This is more than the industry average for luxury SUV models by $2,836.
How long can a BMW X7 last?
Typically, you can expect your BMW X7 to survive 200,000 - 250,000 miles, with the high mileage point resting at 150,000 miles and the good mileage spot at 130,000. The more effort you put into careful driving and maintenance, the more life you will find in your BMW X7.

- Summary: On October 18, 2024 I got a check engine light after starting my vehicle when leaving the grocery store. I stopped at a mechanic shop near by and was told the code they pulled stated that there was an “Air Flap Control Malfunction.” I’ experienced this same issue a year earlier on December 15, 2024 when I got an engine warning light that stayed on and it gave this same error message. Before I could take the vehicle to the dealership it went out and did not come back on until October 18th. I currently have my vehicle at the dealership to be diagnosed by them, but the light was not on when I took the vehicle to them.

- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-17

- VIN: 5UX23EM04R9
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I brought my vehicle to my dealer in March to have my brake system repaired as there was a known recall on this vehicle and was told there is no remedy available but it was safe to drive. The power brake booster in my 2024 BMW X7 failed on October 17, 2024 while I was driving downhill with a child in the car around a blind turn. I was not able to stop for several hundred feet and would have potentially killed a pedestrian, myself or my child who was in the car with me if this happened on a road where there was more traffic. I relayed this to the BMW executive team and was told that they will not buy my vehicle back because they will fix the part now that it failed. They said that they did not have enough parts to issue to all the affected vehicles so unless the part fails they are not doing anything about it at this time. This has been going on for 8 months. This recall is still outstanding on about 80,000 vehicles at this time. TI am not confident that the part is going to work. If they have a fix why arent they pulling ALL the recalled vehicles off the road? The power brake booster was confirmed as failing by my local BMW dealership. The only time a warning light came on was when my booster failed, and at that point it was too late to do anything to get to safety.

Bmw X7 2020
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-16
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-21
- VIN: 5UXCW2C05L9
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,SEATS
- Summary: The failed component was observed when the Restraint warning icon appeared. There was no accident because the vehicle was taken to the BMW dealership for investigation. There is a warning not to drive because the Restraint system may not work properly. This is a safety issue with no work around to operate the vehicle in a safe manner. After reviewing multiple threads online, it appears that my situation is not uncommon with BMW. I took the vehicle to BMW service and they confirmed there is a fault in the harness that allows the airbag, seat belt and tensioner to not operate properly in the case of a collision. The service advisor admitted they have seen this before and knew how to repair it. The repair is too costly to investigate the harness where the defect in the wiring occurred, so the opt to replace the harness in a parallel manner, which still takes 7 hours and over $2200. The vehicle is only a few months out of warranty and has less than 18,000 total miles. They is no way that the harness experienced normal wear over the years to cause this with such low miles. They attempted to blame the Arizona heat as possible cause, but the vehicle was in Illinois to 2 of the 4 years and while in Arizona, it is parked in my air conditioned garage. Heat is not the cause. This situation is a design defect during assembly or a defective harness at manufacturer. BMW would not accept any responsibility for the issue, which is a safety liability to passengers.

- Summary: I received a recall notice in Feb of 2024 for a faulty integrated brake module and issues with the antilock breaking system which may result in seemingly catastrophic issues. There is still no fix for this issue-- 9 months seems like a long time to be driving around a car which may "lose control". I'm not sure if I am safe in my car. I'm not totally sure if this is a reasonable amount of time? But I wanted to report this because it seems worthy of a complaint... Thank you for your time.

This is, without a doubt, the best car I have ever driven. It is incredibly smooth, fast, and comfortable. My family is thrilled for me, and my kids absolutely love it. I have owned many different types of cars, including BMWs, Benzes, Audis, Range Rovers, and Teslas, but this SUV is truly exceptional! The acceleration is so powerful that it easily overtakes slow drivers who try to speed up when I pass them. They don't stand a chance! :)

I owned the X7 for two years (2019) and drove it for 42,000 miles. While passing through a school zone, I experienced a complete loss of steering and brakes as children were crossing. Fortunately, I was going uphill and there was a bend in the road, so I went off the road without causing any harm. BMW acknowledged that there was a software issue, but unfortunately, they did not stand behind the vehicle. As a 61-year-old man, I strongly advise against purchasing this vehicle. Please be aware. If you have any concerns, you can contact Bernhard Kuhnt, VP of BMW, or Caitlin De Siervo, Executive Customer Relations and Services, National Service Director. They may be able to assist you.

This car always needs to be taken to service for recalls. I paid 120000 dollars

After experiencing multiple issues with my 2020 X7, including repairs to the car computer, suspension strut, brakes, water pump, moon roof shade, and charging pad, I am considering selling or trading it. Despite my initial love for the car, I am concerned that the warranty may not be sufficient to keep it in my possession.

Your X7 is beautifully finished inside and out, with superb road manners and unbeatable comfort. However, the technology can be overwhelming with numerous unprompted options that require attention and can become annoying. The climate controls require manual adjustment of the fan speed, which can be mystifying given all the technology available that is seldom needed or used. Accidentally pressing the speed limit control and anti-rolling buttons (which is easy to do) can be disconcerting. We understand your frustration and will work to ensure that your driving experience is as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

I have owned this car for 6 months and unfortunately, I have had a very negative experience. The car has been unreliable and I have had some issues with the customer service. I am disappointed with the quality of the car and the service I have received. I hope that BMW can improve their customer service and the reliability of their cars in the future.
