2011 Bmw X6 problems

bmw logo

The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof). It is built in BMW's North American plant in Greer, South Carolina alongside the BMW X5, whose platform it shares. Prior to the release of the X7, the X6 was considered a flagship SUV for BMW.

The first generation (E71) was released for sale in April 2008 for the 2008 model year, while the second-generation X6 (F16) was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 2014. The third-generation X6 was revealed in July 2019.

BMW Concept X6 (2007)

The concept model debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show and the production X6 officially debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and Montreal International Auto Show. While slightly longer and wider than the X5, it is significantly lower and seated initially only four, and since 2011, optionally five.

Common 2011 Bmw X6 problems

The 2011 BMW X6 has been reported to have two major issues that are worth noting, making it a less reliable choice compared to its peers. The two problems include an overheating engine and a persistent TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) light.

The overheating engine issue is a significant concern, as it can lead to severe engine damage if not addressed promptly. This problem has been reported at around 70,000 miles, indicating that it may be a more prevalent issue in higher-mileage vehicles. Overheating engines can be caused by a variety of factors, including a malfunctioning cooling system, low coolant levels, or a faulty thermostat. It is crucial to have this issue inspected and resolved by a professional mechanic as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the engine.

The second issue with the 2011 BMW X6 is a persistent TPMS light, which can indicate that tire pressure might be too low for safe driving. This problem has also been reported at around 70,000 miles. A TPMS light can be triggered by a number of factors, including low tire pressure, a faulty TPMS sensor, or a problem with the TPMS system's wiring or computer module. It is essential to have this issue diagnosed and repaired by a professional mechanic to ensure safe driving conditions and prevent potential tire damage.

While these issues are concerning, it is important to note that the 2011 BMW X6 still has relatively few problems compared to other vehicles. However, given the availability of other, more reliable year models, it may be worth considering one of those options instead to minimize the risk of encountering these issues.

Negative 2011 Bmw X6 car reviews

  1. Antone Johnston 2024-07-23

Today, I went shopping for a new car to replace my 2009 Mercedes Benz SL550. As someone who has always driven sports cars, I love the style, handling, and thrills they offer. While I adore my SL, I can only drive it for 2/3 of the year due to living on the side of a mountain with snow. During the summer, I enjoy taking it on road trips, but luggage space is always an issue, and my wife dislikes highway driving in it. She always says things like, 'Slow down!', 'Don't pass that truck!', 'We're too low to the road!', and so on. I'm sure you've heard it before. Every review I've read about the X6 complains about how impractical it is, how it lacks purpose and focus. They just don't understand, do they?...continued

  2. Jed Abshire 2024-04-13

During my test ride, my salesman took me on a freshly paved highway and secondary road, which I found quite pleasing. However, I did notice a downside to this car only after driving off the lot onto a less than perfect road. The ride quality on minor road imperfections was quite unpleasant, and it felt like being hurled around the cabin like a rag doll. As a result, I found myself seeking out the smoothest routes to avoid this discomfort. It seems that BMW engineers may have prioritized the X6's performance over other driving aspects that are expected in a luxury vehicle ride, SUV or otherwise. Therefore, unless you only drive on freshly paved, perfectly smooth road surfaces, you may regret buying this vehicle.

  3. Geo Dietrich 2024-01-25

Nothing compares. A fantastic driving experience. This car is truly the ultimate driving machine. Picked up the BMW i50 X6 and have been totally satisfied. Traded in a 2011 Porsche Cayenne S! No comparison this time the BMW IS better than the Porsche (Couldn't say that about my 911 vs M5). You will be happy with your decision if you purchase one of these.

Positive 2011 Bmw X6 car reviews

  1. Grayce Zboncak 2025-01-04

I've been a BMW owner since 1996 and I must say, these cars just keep getting better and better. Currently, I own both an X5 4.4 V8 and an X6 35idrive (diesel) and I couldn't be happier. While I do miss the oomph of the V8, the gas consumption of the X6 is way better at 10.8 L/100 km. It's more economical and cheaper to gas up, only needing to do so once every 10 days compared to 5 days with the V8. The X6 has great steering and incredibly comfortable seats, making it a joy to drive. Although it can be a bit tricky to park, I highly recommend it. It's a modern marvel that is sure to turn heads and earn signs of approval from all.

  2. Demarcus Leuschke 2024-11-16

I'm so glad to hear that you purchased the 2011 X6, loaded with every option available. It sounds like you're really enjoying your first BMW, and I'm sure it won't be your last. The car sounds like it's an absolute blast to drive, and the turbo V6 has all the power you'll ever need, especially with the 8 speed transmission. Although there is slight turbo lag from a dead stop rapid acceleration, the car still sounds like it's a lot of fun to drive. The interior sounds classy, refined, and very comfortable on long drives. It's great to hear that you're getting about 17 mpg around town in every day driving, and on the high way, you averaged about 26 mpg on a recent 250 mile trip (not bad for a big vehicle and AWD). I completely agree that the premium sound system is a must-have, and it sounds like it provides unbelievable sound.

  3. Jermain Goodwin 2024-10-26

I'm 50 years old and have been married for over 29 years. Throughout our marriage, my wife has always gotten the newest cars, until now. We have reached a new stage in our family cycle where our children have grown up and left home, and our mini-van has outlived its usefulness. That's why we decided to get the BMW X6, the next generation of 'man toys'. This car is exclusive, powerful, and stylish. While it may not be the best family car, it's perfect for those who are ready to accelerate and enjoy the next stage of life. On weekends, my wife and I can pack a small bag and hit the road on a whim. This car is truly a joy to drive! :)

  4. Wilhelm Smith 2024-09-01

This is the rarest car in town and I hope to keep it that way for a long time. As someone who has owned a 325is, 325i, M3, 740il, and the latest addition, the X6, I can confidently say that this is the most amazing car I have ever bought. It's not just an X5, it's a pure 4-door coupe sports car! I absolutely love the design and it's all I needed, even though I have to drive my wife and two children around every day. I'm still getting used to the X6.

  5. Sylvan Wehner 2024-06-26

You're so lucky! You've owned over 250 vehicles, that's amazing! Out of all the cars you've driven and owned, the BMW X6 is definitely your favourite. You purchased a BMW X6 50i with the V8 twin turbo, but unfortunately, the design of having the twin turbos in the V of the engine caused some issues with the valve guides. This resulted in using a litre of oil every 500 kilometres. You went to get it fixed and were told it was better to put a new engine in, so you did. You were so happy with it until 2 days ago when someone tried passing you over a double yellow line and took out your driver front fender and front end. Unfortunately, it was a right off. But don't worry, you're going to buy a BMW X6 35i to avoid any engine problems and continue enjoying the best ride of your life!
