The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs.

Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.

Ford also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV.

The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.

Common 2011 Ford F-250 problems

The 2011 Ford F-250, while a popular choice for its hauling capabilities and reliability, has faced several common problems reported by owners. One of the most significant issues is the "death wobble," a dangerous vibration in the front end of the vehicle that can make controlling the truck extremely difficult.

The death wobble can occur at any time, but it often starts with a small bump, and the only way to stop it is by reducing the vehicle's speed to 25 to 35 mph.

Another common problem with the 2011 Ford F-250 is engine troubles, which have been reported across various model years, including 2002, 2006, 2008, 2011, and 2017.

Suspension issues have also been reported for the 2011 Ford F-250, as well as other model years, such as 2006 and 2017.

Steering difficulties have been reported for several versions of the Ford F-250, with the 2017 model being the most prominent.

In summary, the 2011 Ford F-250 has faced common problems, including the dangerous and difficult-to-repair death wobble, engine troubles, suspension issues, and steering difficulties. These problems can be costly and inconvenient for drivers, and they may require expensive repairs or replacements. It is essential to be aware of these issues when considering purchasing a used Ford F-250, particularly the 2011 model year.

  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: At 122,000 miles the vehicle no has begun to have the "death wobble." Extreme shaking at 40mph+. Ford has no recall for this issue. My local dealer/service center is charging full price to remedy the issue. However, the exact repair is unclear to them (e.g. steering dampener, shocks, u-joints, ???, etc). I suspect this will become a "throw parts at it" strategy and very expensive. Ford should back this issue up, based on so many reports of occurrences online from owners.

STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-09-18
  • VIN: 1FT7W2BT8BE
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
  • Summary: I own a properly maintained 2011 Ford F-250. Today, 14 instances of what is commonly know as "Ford Death Wobble" occurred to me on the interstate highway while I drove 250 miles. Violent front end shaking at speeds over 55mph after driving over rough bridges or bumps in the road. Several times I almost lost control of my truck it shook so badly. I had to sharply decrease speed below 35 mph before shaking would stop and I could regain control. I can easily reproduce this problem, but I learned to drive no faster than 50 mph the rest of the way home on the interstate in order to mostly avoid further cases of violent shaking. In addition to almost losing control of my truck, having to slam on my brakes to reduce speed put myself and other vehicles at risk on a highway with fast-moving vehicles. I will be taking it to a Ford dealer tomorrow to see if they can resolve this very dangerous defect.

STEERING,SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-04-18
  • VIN: 1FT7W2B64BE
  • Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION
  • Summary: Death Wabble. Truck uncontrollably shakes in the front end while driving on the highway over 50mph. Extremely scary. It seems like the truck may flip over. Reducing speed below 25mph is the only way to stop it from shaking. Cannot apply brakes while shaking because the truck shakes even more. Allowing the truck to reduce speed on its own is the only safe option.
