2012 Bmw X6 problems
The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof). It is built in BMW's North American plant in Greer, South Carolina alongside the BMW X5, whose platform it shares. Prior to the release of the X7, the X6 was considered a flagship SUV for BMW.
The first generation (E71) was released for sale in April 2008 for the 2008 model year, while the second-generation X6 (F16) was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 2014. The third-generation X6 was revealed in July 2019.
BMW Concept X6 (2007)
The concept model debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show and the production X6 officially debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and Montreal International Auto Show. While slightly longer and wider than the X5, it is significantly lower and seated initially only four, and since 2011, optionally five.

Common 2012 Bmw X6 problems
The BMW X6, produced between 2008 and 2014, is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV that combines the capabilities of an SUV with the sleek style of a coupe.
- Tailgate spoiler: The tailgate spoiler on the BMW X6 has been reported to wobble or vibrate excessively during driving, with some cases resulting in the spoiler coming off entirely. This issue is caused by an incorrectly bonded rear spoiler, which tends to come loose on the top edge of the tailgate on the right-hand side, where it meets the rear of the roof. To resolve this issue, a new bumper will need to be installed.
- Swirl flap: On diesel-engined BMW X6 models, there is a part called the swirl flap that is prone to breaking. If this part breaks, it can allow metal debris into the engine, leading to serious consequences, including the need for a new engine. The best way to check for this problem is to look for oil leaks around the intake manifold. Replacing the swirl flap is necessary if it is broken, and it is recommended to have the engine checked by a specialist to detect any engine damage.
- Electrical gremlins: Some owners have reported electrical issues with their BMW X6, including problems with starting, battery life, air-con, sat-nav issues, and electrical warning lights. These issues are mostly related to electrical systems and can be a result of wear and tear or manufacturing defects.
- Rear seat comfort: The tapering rear roofline of the BMW X6 can make the rear seats less comfortable for taller passengers. While BMW has contoured the roof to make the best of the available space, the rear seats may still feel cramped for some individuals.
- Boot loading sill: The boot of the BMW X6 has a high loading sill, which can make it difficult to load heavy or bulky items. This is a design feature that may not be an issue for all users, but it is worth noting for those who plan to use the X6 for transporting large or heavy items.
- Expensive repair costs: Some parts of the BMW X6, such as headlamp pods and xenon bulbs, can be quite expensive to replace. This is something to consider when purchasing a used X6, as repair costs can add up quickly if the vehicle requires maintenance or repairs.
In summary, the BMW X6 is a reliable vehicle overall, but like any vehicle, it can experience common issues. The tailgate spoiler, swirl flap, electrical gremlins, rear seat comfort, boot loading sill, and expensive repair costs are some of the issues that have been reported by owners. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and consider them when purchasing a used BMW X6.

I understand that you got the car with all the features you wanted after having to give up your 335i coupe for a more family-friendly option. It sounds like you're enjoying the speed and excitement of your new car! I'm glad to hear that the navigation has improved since your last car. While the active seats may be a bit overwhelming, it's great to hear that the heads-up display is impressive!
-
This is the rarest car in town and I hope to keep it that way for a long time. As someone who has owned a 325is, 325i, M3, 740il, and the latest addition, the X6, I can confidently say that this is the most amazing car I have ever bought. It's not just an X5, it's a pure 4-door coupe sports car! I absolutely love the design and it's all I needed, even though I have to drive my wife and two children around every day. I'm still getting used to the X6.
-
I've owned three previous X5 models, but the X6 is a completely different vehicle. It's wider, bolder, and makes more of a stylistic statement. I opted for the sport package with 20-inch wheels, which really make the car look pumped up. However, be prepared for a harsh ride if the road is rough. The wide cabin and big seats are great, and I love the design. The 6-cylinder engine provides great power, and the transmission is top-notch. Although it only seats four passengers, you'll ride in style. Rear visibility is okay with the camera, and the car has a king-of-the-road feel with looks to match.

I've been experiencing issues with my car's sound system for the past two months. Initially, it was intermittent, but now it happens quite frequently. I purchased my X6 in January and didn't have any sound problems until around June. Unfortunately, the sound has been going off, including for the radio, CD, reverse-alert, SOS, and more. Sometimes restarting the engine helps, but not always. BMW Service suggested that the issue may be due to my old version of Bluetooth on my blackberry, which I had previously connected to the car. However, even after deleting the blackberry from my phone list and keeping my phone off while driving, the sound still goes off. I'm currently taking my car to BMW for the second time, and I hope they can fix the issue. It's frustrating, especially considering the amount I paid for the car, which was $87,000!

I first owned a 325CI, which was my first BMW, and I absolutely loved it. Even now, it remains a great driving machine. However, as I've grown older, I felt the need to upgrade. I thought driving a 6-series would be the perfect upgrade for me. When I saw the X6, I asked to test drive it, and it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. It's not as big as a true SUV, but it sits up high and is larger, while still maintaining a cool, sporty look. I immediately started negotiations, and everything was wrapped up in about two to three hours. I can't get enough of driving it!

After enjoying my BMW X6 for 6 wonderful months, Judy (who gracefully clocked in at 56,000 miles) encountered a few issues that required costly repairs. Unfortunately, the expenses added up quickly, including $1,400 for a high-pressure fuel pump, $2,200 for a transfer case, $616 for a replacement coolant expansion tank, 2 oil changes at $150, $170 for a stripped oil pan screw, $400 for tinting, and an unattended battery light and need for a blower motor replacement. After careful consideration, Alice, a Subaru Outback, became my new car. I hope to develop a beautiful relationship with her. My advice to you is to avoid buying an $80,000 car (Judy was used and I paid nowhere near that, but that was her MSP new) because, as I was told in the repair shop, it’s normal to expect $16,000 a year in maintenance. If you're interested in Judy, she's available at the Subaru lot in Charleston, SC. She's a beauty, Clark... a beauty...

During my test ride, my salesman took me on a freshly paved highway and secondary road, which I found quite pleasing. However, I did notice a downside to this car only after driving off the lot onto a less than perfect road. The ride quality on minor road imperfections was quite unpleasant, and it felt like being hurled around the cabin like a rag doll. As a result, I found myself seeking out the smoothest routes to avoid this discomfort. It seems that BMW engineers may have prioritized the X6's performance over other driving aspects that are expected in a luxury vehicle, whether it's an SUV or not. Therefore, unless you only drive on freshly paved, perfectly smooth road surfaces, you may regret purchasing this vehicle.

My wife's X6 sound system was not working properly, so we sent it back to the dealer. Although they fixed it by installing new software, the problem reoccurred twice. I decided to take action and wrote a complaint letter to BMW Germany. Within two days, our local dealer contacted me and asked me to bring the car back. They identified the problem as being with the amplifier and replaced it under warranty. Since then, the sound system has been working perfectly. However, I have noticed another issue with the back camera occasionally not working. Despite these reliability issues, BMW still produces great cars.

Today, I went shopping for a new car to replace my 2009 Mercedes Benz SL550. As someone who has always driven sports cars, I love the style, handling, and thrills they offer. While I adore my SL, I can only drive it for 2/3 of the year due to living on the side of a mountain with snow. During the summer, I enjoy taking it on road trips, but luggage space is always an issue, and my wife dislikes highway driving in it. She always says things like, 'Slow down!', 'Don't pass that truck!', 'We're too low to the road!', and so on. I'm sure you've heard it before. Every review I've read about the X6 complains about how impractical it is, how it lacks purpose and focus. They just don't understand, do they?...continued

We bought our car used from the dealership and it was in excellent condition. It had only 30,000 miles on it at the time and now has around 50k. Unfortunately, we have had to take it to the shop for four major repairs in the almost two years we’ve owned it - two different valve systems issues, axel replacement, and leaking tubes. However, we are grateful that our secondary warranty has covered the cost of these repairs, which have amounted to over $15k. We wanted to share our experience with you, so you can make an informed decision when purchasing a car.
