- VIN: WA1C2AFP5HA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My SUV had stopped heating/defrosting and vehicles car charging ports appear to not be working any longer. It was discovered that my coolant pump was blocked with debris. The heat has returned, still no power to the charge points in vehicle. While driving on highway, my vehicles dash started to light up instructing me to turn off engine coolant low (electric). However, my H C coolant gauge was just below midpoint. It appears to be a bit faulty. Nonetheless, I pulled off highway and asked a local car supplier store and mechanic shop to look, they reported that it appears to be leaking coolant inside the vehicle puddling the coolant in the undercarriage of the vehicle not leaving any visible signs of leaks on driveway. Please advise.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-30
- VIN: WA1C2AFPXHA
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Catastrophic engine failure, Audi Q5 2017 2.0 Turbo, suddenly stopped/disabled on State highway traveling approximately 45 mph September 2022. Engine re-started after waiting period, then moved to shoulder while experiencing limp mode with EPC light and low oil pressure light activated just prior to engine sutting off again. Vehicle 66,539 miles at time of incident, had just received complete vehicle diagnostic in December 2021 (8 months prior, 7,406 miles incurred) at Audi Tucson and successfully passed complete engine inspection. Vehicle towed to Audi Chandler with diagnostic recommendation to replace complete engine due to piston failure (long block replacement estimated at $16,881.79). Since engine failure, multiple attempts to resolve with Audi USA customer service have been unsuccessful, finally stating “all issues start and end with the dealer”. For customers nationwide, there appears to be no issue resolution with Audi USA customer service - they do not authorize any repairs based on this statement. Vehicle is disabled with no current recourse for replacement of same engine as Audi has discontinued manufacturing 2.0 Turbo engines for this model, per Audi dealership.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-09-17
- VIN: WA1C2AFP5HA
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: 1st occurrence(9/17/21): While traveling the power steering failed. I stopped roadside to check to make sure there were no issues with tires. I resumed traveling and found steering to be stiff and over steer(feeling as if the wheels tilted) when turning left or right. After stopping for approximately 20 minutes I returned to my vehicle to resume my trip. The stirring operated normally. 2nd occurrence(9/27/21): Approximately three weeks later the power steering completely failed and remained that way until I returned to my residence. Since there was no recall listed and the original warranty has expired I called a repair shop to have the vehicle checked(first available appointment was two weeks out but I could leave the vehicle and they would do an assessment if they could fit it in their schedule. 3rd occurrence(9/30/21): Power steering failed but I was able to maintain control. The power operated the following day but travel was limited. I hope an assessment can be completed within the next two days. I did purchase an extended warranty through the dealership. Note: each event occurred during favorable weather conditions(no rain, ice, snow or storms of any kind).

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-11-12
- VIN: WA1D7AFP5HA
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: VEHICLE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS ABRUPTLY WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP. TRANSMISSION SLAMS INTO EACH GEAR AS YOU SLOW CAUSING AN UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN ENGINE BRAKING. THIS OCCURS REGARDLESS OF DRIVE SELECT MODE (COMFORT, AUTO, OR SPORT). THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS BEHAVIOR ACROSS AUDI OWNER FORUMS FOR VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION COMBINATION (3.0L SUPERCHARGED V6 MATED TO ZF 8HP TRANSMISSION). ADDITIONALLY, THERE'S A FREQUENT LONG DELAY FOR THE REVERSE CAMERA IMAGE TO DISPLAY ON THE SCREEN WHEN SELECTING REVERSE. IT CAN TAKE UP TO 7-10 SECONDS. IF THERE IS A SOFTWARE UPDATE AVAILABLE, AUDI DEALER ADVISES IT WILL COST MONEY TO HAVE INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. AS THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN I WOULD IMAGINE THE MANUFACTURER WOULD HANDLE AS A TSB, REGARDLESS OF YEAR OR MILEAGE.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-05-18
- VIN: WA1C2AFPXHA
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY
- Summary: THE ROOF OF MY 2017 AUDI Q5 IS GLASS, AND IT MAKES A CONSTANT RATTLING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO THE AUDI SERVICE CENTER TO BE SERVICED, AND THE SUNROOF FRAME ALONG WITH ALL OF THE BOLTS WERE REPLACED IN DECEMBER 2019. AS OF TODAY, THE RATTLE IS STRONGLY PRESENT AGAIN. THIS ISSUE IS ONGOING, AND IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME. THE GLASS ROOF COULD LITERALLY SHATTER AND RESULT IN A FATAL INJURY. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AUTO LINE, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT AN INVESTIGATION COULDN'T BE CONDUCTED BECAUSE A TWO YEAR DEADLINE THAT I MISSED EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 15K MILES ON IT. I HAVE ALSO REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE FROM AUDI, AND MY REQUEST WAS REJECTED. AS OF MAY 2020, THE AUDI SERVICE CENTER MANAGER FACILITATED ANOTHER REPLACEMENT REQUEST ON MY BEHALF. *TR
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-03-09
- VIN: WA1M2AFP2HA
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: ON MONDAY 3/9/2020 AROUND 6:45PM EDT, I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL ZONE APPROX. 25-30 MPH. I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN AND PRESSED THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. THE CAR SLOWED SLIGHTLY BUT DID NOT STOP, DESPITE MY INTENSE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. INSTEAD, THE ENGINE REVVED SPONTANEOUSLY SEVERAL TIMES AND I PROCEEDED HALF-WAY THROUGH THE (THANKFULLY EMPTY) INTERSECTION. I CONFIRMED I WAS IN REGULAR DRIVE GEAR (NOT THE SEMI-MANUAL MODE), THEN QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN PARK TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON, THEN CONTINUED DRIVING WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THAT NIGHT, I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND ANOTHER CUSTOMER REPORTED A NEARLY IDENTICAL EXPERIENCE WITH A 2017 AUDI Q5 ON MARCH 16 2017 (BRAKES FAILED PROBLEM). THAT CUSTOMER'S DEALER FOUND A FAULT WITH THE ABS BRAKE MODULE, WHICH WAS REPAIRED. I TOOK MY CAR TO AN AUDI DEALER (ZIP CODE 48301) THE FOLLOWING DAY BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY "FAULTS" AND THEREFORE MAKE ANY REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE IS 2017 WITH APPROX. 17K MILES, STILL UNDER OEM WARRANTY.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-02-12
- VIN: WA1L2AFP0HA
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: FRONT BRAKES APPEAR TO SQUEAK LOUDLY AFTER INITIATION WITH MOISTURE; MORE SERIOUSLY THERE IS CONSIDERABLE LOCKING/SLIDING OF THE BRAKES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP ON SNOW AND ICE -- AT A MORE DANGEROUS DISTANCE THAN OUR OTHER 2 VEHICLES IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS. VEHICLE (2017 Q5) HAS 22K MILES WITH THE ABS SYSTEM/TIRES APPEARING TO BE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. MY WIFE AND I HAVE USED MULTIPLE STOPPING TECHNIQUES (PUMPING BRAKES, APPLYING SOFT PRESSURE, AND ALSO HARD PRESSURE) WITH THE SAME RESULT: ON 2 OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE ESSENTIALLY LOCKED UP AND SLID 1/2 WAY THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY NO PEDESTRIANS/VEHICLES WERE NEARBY. I READ SEVERAL BLOGS REGARDING THIS WITH OTHER OWNERS CITING THE SAME PROBLEMS. THERE APPEARS TO BE VW/AUDI OBSERVANCES REGARDING ISSUES WITH 2018 VEHICLES WITH THE LACK OF EITHER A SUPPLIER-DEFICIENT CALIPER SPRAY/LOOSE BOLT IN THE FRONT BRAKING AREA. WE ARE KINDLY ASKING TO REVIEW THIS SITUATION TO DETERMINE IF OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM. WE WILL ALSO BE ASKING OUR DEALER TO FULLY INSPECT THE VEHICLE. WE ARE AWARE THAT SNOW/ICE REPRESENT CHALLENGES -- BUT THIS VEHICLE HAS SCARED MY WIFE/I MULTIPLE TIMES BY NOT STOPPING WITHIN A REASONABLE DISTANCE DESPITE THE ADVERSE CONDITIONS.

- Remedy: Audi will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the inflator and either coat it or replace it, as necessary, after removing the surrounding foam, free of charge. The recall is expected to began March 2017. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69P1.
- Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM

(Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Audi A5, A5 Cabriolet and Q5 vehicles, 2013-2016 Audi Allroad and Audi A4 vehicles and 2012-2015 Audi A6 vehicles. These vehicles, equipped with 2.0l Turbo FSI engines, have an electric coolant pump that can be blocked with debris from the cooling system, resulting in the pump overheating.

For an objective review, I recommend reading Edmunds. When compared to the Acura RDX, Volvo XC60, BMW X3, and MB GLK350, my 2014 Q5 with 24000 miles has had zero problems on two trips from Florida to Boston. The AC works great, and while the MMI can be difficult, once mastered, it becomes somewhat intuitive. However, it needs to be simplified. The position of the Cruise Control stalk is bad and can be confusing, as it gets mixed up with the Turn Signal at times. The controls on the steering wheel need to be moved (Are you listening Audi?). Would I buy again? In a heartbeat!

I've been driving BMWs since 1999, and I must say, they've been quite a ride! I've owned a 2000 540i, a 2004 X-5 4.4, a 2008 750iL, and a 2011 535i with the sport package. However, I must admit that at some point, between the 2008 and 2011 models, BMW seemed to have lost its charm and turned into something more like a Lexus. The 2011 535i was a competent vehicle, but it lacked the excitement and personality that I was looking for in a car. That's why I decided to switch to a 2016 Q5 3.0T, and boy, am I glad I did! It's great to be driving a true German car again. The steering in this car is so responsive that you can feel the road beneath you. The suspension is firm and engaged, yet it doesn't feel harsh at all. Plus, there are plenty of luxury features that make driving this car an absolute pleasure. In short, if you're someone who loves driving but also needs the convenience of an SUV, then this is simply the perfect car for you!

This car is really comfortable and enjoyable to drive. There's plenty of legroom in the front seat. It also comes with the Technology Package. The Information/Entertainment center may take some time to learn, but it's worth it. It can be a bit challenging to use while driving, but overall, this is a really fun SUV to drive, especially after driving a MB CLK350 for the past 5 years.

Superb! I love this car!

I love my Audi, but I have to admit that the technology feels outdated for a 2016 vehicle. Unfortunately, there are no USB ports, and unless you have an Apple phone, the interface is not compatible, which can be frustrating. Additionally, the navigation system can be difficult to work with when using voice recognition.

It is outrageous that the Audi dealership in Santa Clara is charging over $3,400 to replace the MMI (multiMedia Interface) that failed in less than 3 years. This exorbitant price is highway robbery considering that the display costs less than $300 and the other electronics interface cost less than $800 altogether. It is perplexing that car manufacturers tie the electronics warranty to the mechanical warranty, limiting the electronics warranty to 50,000 miles even if the car is less than 3 years old. While some electronics devices require frequent updates and replacement, the MMI display is a device that just displays mediocre graphics that never can be improved once installed, and the software is marginal and doesn't require frequent updates. The labor cost is likely more than 50% of the replacement cost, and charging what appears to be 700% of the material cost with a nominal $40/hr labor rate is absurd. If you are looking for a car with far less cost of ownership and acquisition cost, I strongly recommend considering non-European cars for daily use and every aspect of mechanical performance. In my experience, the most reliable and cost-effective cars have been from the Far East, and while European models have great engine performance, more than 50% of the repair budget is spent on electronics and electrical repairs.

I recently leased a car that I wasn't planning on buying. Unfortunately, at just 16,000 miles, I was told that I needed new brake pads. I was surprised by this, as I have owned five vehicles and two motorcycles in the past and have never had to replace brake pads at such low mileage. Despite this setback, I did some research and found that Audi parts may not be the best quality. I have decided to explore other options and have received some offers from Lexus. I am hoping that BMW will also have some good offers, as that is the brand I am interested in. Additionally, I have experienced some recalls with my current car, which has been frustrating. Overall, I am looking forward to finding a car that better suits my needs and preferences.

We had to replace the engine on our used Q5 after just over 30k miles from Audi Natick (Mass). Unfortunately, the engine lost compression on more than one cylinder after only 30k miles. However, we were able to find a used replacement engine for the cost of $10k+. If you are considering an Audi, we highly recommend having your own mechanic check it over and most importantly, perform a compression check on the engine itself. Despite this issue, we must say that every other aspect of the car, including the driving, amenities, and handling, are truly awesome.

I experienced some issues with my paperweight after the first four weeks of ownership. Specifically, the timing shaft tensioner and camshaft failed on two separate occasions. Despite this, Audi refused a buyback, stating that they were not responsible for the issues.

I really like the way the Q5 drives and handles, it's very smooth and mobile with good power. However, I would not recommend it due to the outdated tech and hard-to-use features for simple things. It's surprising that push start only comes standard on the premium plus model, and that you have to make sure the Q5 you want to buy comes with the technology package to get Bluetooth. The wipers can be difficult to control, and the MMI is not user-friendly. It would be great to have shortcut buttons and quick push buttons for presets. Additionally, ending a call on Bluetooth can be a pain. The gas remaining indicator is also not very helpful, as you have to restart the engine and look closely for a quick flash to see how many miles are left until empty. Lastly, it's disappointing that a 2016 Audi Q5 Premium Plus does not tell you which tire is low, only that the tire pressure is low. Overall, while I like the vehicle for its driving and handling, the outdated tech and difficult-to-use features make it hard to recommend.
