2013 Audi A3 problems
The Audi A3 is a subcompact executive/small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by the German automaker Audi AG since September 1996, currently in its fourth generation.
The first two generations of the Audi A3 were based on the Volkswagen Group A platform, while the third and fourth generations use the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.
First generation (Typ 8L; 1996)
The original A3 (or Type 8L) was announced back in June 1995, but introduced first in the European market for more than year in September 1996, marking Audi's return to the production of smaller cars following the demise of the Audi 50 in 1978. This was the first Volkswagen Group model to use the "PQ34" or "A4" platform, bearing a close resemblance to the contemporary Volkswagen Golf Mk4, which arrived a year later. Within three years, this platform was used for total of seven cars.
The A3 was initially available only with a three-door hatchback body, to present a more sporty image than the Golf, in both front and four-wheel drive. The inline four-cylinder engines were transversely mounted. The Audi A3 was the eighth model in the Audi lineup to use five valves per cylinder. The dashboard was also used by the first generation SEAT León and second generation SEAT Toledo.
The United Kingdom market first received the Audi A3 in November 1996.
In 1999 Audi expanded the range with the introduction of more powerful versions: a 1.8 turbo rated 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp), and a 1.9 TDI diesel engine with unit injector "Pumpe Düse" (PD) technology and variable geometry turbocharger. The four-wheel-drive A3 1.8T quattro used either the 150 PS (110 kW; 148 hp) or 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) engine, and the same Haldex Traction-based four-wheel-drive system as the Audi S3 and the Audi TT. Also in 1999, Audi also introduced a five-door body.
In late 2000 the A3 range was revised with new headlights and rear lamps, other minor cosmetic changes, an improved interior, and the introduction of a six-speed manual gearbox, on the 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) 1.8 Turbo and the new 130 PS (96 kW; 128 hp) 1.9 TDI.
Audi's electronic stability control, traction-control, and brake force distribution computer became standard equipment in some countries.
Although the first-generation Audi A3 was replaced in Europe in 2003, the first generation model continued to be sold in some markets. Production of the first generation model stopped in Brazil in 2006.

Common 2013 Audi A3 problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Audi A3 2013 model, several common problems have been reported. Here is a detailed list of these issues:
- Gearbox Problems: Some drivers have experienced stiff gear changes in their Audi A3 models, which can be attributed to wear and tear on the gear linkage. Symptoms include difficulty shifting gears, grinding noise, thumping noise, and transmission fluid leaks. Prompt attention from a specialist is crucial to address gearbox issues effectively.
- Clutch Problems: Owners have reported power loss while driving, often caused by a failing clutch. A worn-out or defective clutch can lead to a lack of acceleration due to inadequate clamping of the flywheel by the clutch disc. Repairing clutch issues is essential to restore proper functionality and driving performance.
- Starting Problems: Some Audi A3 owners have faced difficulties starting their engines. Starting issues can stem from various causes such as engine coolant sensor problems, inadequate fuel pressure, or ignition issues. To accurately diagnose and repair starting problems, consulting a trained specialist is recommended.
- Front Suspension Noises: The front suspension of the Audi A3 may develop rumbling noises and occasional squeaks over time. These noises can be disconcerting and may indicate underlying issues with the suspension system that require attention to maintain driving comfort and safety.
- Steering Grinding Noise: A common problem reported by Audi A3 owners is a grinding noise from the steering, often attributed to a faulty control unit on the steering column. Replacing the control unit can resolve this issue, and with proper guidance, it can be a straightforward task to address.
- Air-Conditioning Issues: Some owners have experienced problems with the air-conditioning system, characterized by whistling sounds. This issue is often linked to a faulty expansion valve that needs replacement. Addressing air-conditioning problems promptly can ensure optimal comfort while driving.
- Oil Pressure Sensor: Owners have encountered issues with the oil pressure sensor, leading to warning lights and chimes while driving. Replacing the faulty sensor can resolve this problem, ensuring proper monitoring of oil pressure levels and engine health.
These common problems reported by Audi A3 owners highlight the importance of regular maintenance, prompt repairs, and professional diagnosis to ensure the longevity and performance of the vehicle.

POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-29
- VIN: WAUKEAFM4DA
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Car stalled in fast moving traffic, and then lurched forward. In the stall the car behind me almost ran into me. In the lurch, I almost rear ended someone. Fortunate that both times there was no collision. Took the vehicle to Audi and the car has been diagnosed with failed mechatronic - a $4,000 repair. It was shared that this is a known issue with Audi for my model year (faulty mechatronic), and as such has been recalled in several countries, but not the US. I called Audi USA and was informed that yes it is a known issue and has been recalled in other countries, but that NHTSA has not required Audi USA to open a recall here, and so they can't help me. I'm asking for some assistance. Thank you very much

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-11-01
- VIN: WAUKJAFMXDA
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: 2013 AUDI A3 TDI., SERVICED FOR 65K MAINTENANCE 10/31/15. NEXT DAY , THE CAR BEGAN ABRUPTLY LOOSING FORWARD MOMENTUM UNDER ACCELERATION, AND DIED IN AN INTERSECTION. TOWED TO AUDI, AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS BAD DIESEL. THEY FLUSHED THE DIESEL AND REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. (KROGER DENIED MY BAD DIESEL CLAIM.) ON 11/2/15, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SAME ISSUES. DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS THE ENGINE SPEED SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. ONE MONTH LATER, 11/6/15, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, WITH THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHING. THIS TIME THE DEALER SAID IT IS WAS THROTTLE SENSOR FAULT. THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART, AND TOLD ME IT WAS 'SAFE TO DRIVE'. IN THE TIME BETWEEN, I WOULD REGULARLY EXPERIENCE THE LOSS OF FORWARD MOMENTUM WHILE ACCELERATING UP HILLS. I HAD THE WORK DONE 1/7/16. 9 DAYS LATER AFTER THE THROTTLE SENSOR REPLACEMENT, SATURDAY, 1/16/16, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE CAR BEGAN UNEXPECTEDLY LOSING ACCELERATION IN AN EXTREME FASHION, AND STALLED OUT TWICE WITHIN A 15 MINUTE DRIVE. IT HAD BEEN SUDDENLY AND BRIEFLY LOSING ACCELERATION WHEN ACCELERATING WHILE GOING UPHILL FOR SEVERAL DAYS. IT ALSO STALLED OUT WHILE ACCELERATING INTO AN INTERSECTION (EXTREMELY DANGEROUS) AND WHILE PARKING. I HAD AN ERROR # P2101, AND IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 40 MPH WHILE GOING UPHILL UNTIL I STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE CAR. ON 1/18 (MONDAY) I TOOK MY CAR INTO AUDI SERVICE. THEY HAVE HAD IT UNTIL NOW, 2/9/16, AND HAVE REPLACED THE ENTIRE COMPUTER, AND IT HAS NOT FIXED THE ISSUE. THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE, BUT HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION. THEY NOW SAY THAT THEY RECOMMEND REPLACING THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. THIS IS A CONCERNING SAFETY ISSUE, GIVEN THE ABRUPT DROP IN ACCELERATION GOING UPHILL, THE LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND THE MULTIPLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING.

At 4,000, I am thoroughly in love with this car! It's a blast to drive, with lots of torque and great mountain road control thanks to the paddle gear selectors. Plus, I'm averaging an impressive 40.8 mpg combined (no commute traffic, lots of freeway). The corners are tight and flat, and the control is excellent.

You're going to love driving this car! It's functional, comfortable, and zippy.

I'm so glad you traded in your 2008 Prius for the A3! It sounds like you're really enjoying all the amazing features it has to offer. The upscale interior and exterior, excellent mpg, and thrilling torque are all fantastic qualities. I'm also impressed by the organized iPod interface and the clear Bose sound system. The real-time traffic and crisp navigation screen are great features too. The LED lights and black open sky roof give the car a very European look, especially in Ibis white. It's great to hear that the transmission feels like a manual without all the work, and that the storage room is even a little better than the Prius. Overall, I highly recommend the A3 TDI for its practicality and impressive MPG. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Congratulations on your new A3 TDI! It sounds like you're really enjoying it so far. The peppy acceleration and quick steering make for a fun driving experience, and the build quality and economy are impressive. While the ride may be a bit choppy, it's great to hear that the A3 feels sure-footed on the road. The interior and exterior design are also show-stoppers, which is always a plus. It's understandable that downsizing from a 540 BMW may take some adjustment, but it's great to hear that you're giving the A3 a big thumbs up. I hope your upcoming 500 mile shakedown on the interstate goes well and that you continue to enjoy your new car!

I tend to drive vehicles with a bit of a heavy foot, not necessarily slamming on the brakes, but I do enjoy going fast. However, the Audi A3 2013 TDI premium hatchback did not quite meet my need for speed compared to my previous Lexus. On the bright side, it has great gas mileage and the catalytic converters are easy to remove. I highly recommend removing them as the emissions system requires more maintenance than other cars and is not necessary. Removing them actually improved the car's fuel economy and speed. The car runs on diesel, which typically makes it last longer than a gas-powered car. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with diesel fuel at a gas station in Arkansas, which ruined the car. Despite cleaning out the system and replacing various parts such as the water pump, fuel pump, injectors, and glow plugs, the car still did not run properly. It was a shame because I loved the car and it had the potential to run for a long time consistently. I even took it on a road trip from Louisiana to Canada and back, which actually helped clear out the emissions and allowed it to drive faster for a while. It's a great car for road trips and can cut corners quickly due to its small size. However, the interior is not very comfortable or spacious, except for the decently sized trunk. It's easy to weave in and out of traffic with this car, but it does have some downsides such as occasional AC issues and the problematic emissions system.

I will never purchase another VW, Audi or VAG product again. The total inaction after years of waiting on the Takata airbag recall was unacceptable. The TDI BuyBack process was beyond tedious, as I had to wait over 6 months for an offer letter.
