Common 2022 Kia Stinger problems
Based on the search results, the following are common problems with the Kia Stinger 2022 based on complaints from owners of this car:
- Transmission Issues: According to a Reddit post, some owners of the Kia Stinger 2022 have reported transmission issues, such as shifting delays and slight jerking. However, it is important to note that the transmission issues in the K5 and Forte models are different from the Stinger's transmission and are not expected to affect the Stinger. The post also mentions some cases of shaking/rattling when accelerating and extreme cases of engines catching on fire or blowing a head gasket, but these are not common issues.
- Valve Casket Caps Leaking: A post on StingerForum.org describes a problem with valve casket caps leaking in a 2022 Kia Stinger GT Line. The owner of the car had to replace the coil and spark plug, which were covered in engine oil. Despite no visible leak, the oil level was completely depleted, and the car began misfiring and emitting excessive smoke. After three weeks, the dealership diagnosed the problem and resolved it, but the car started emitting excessive smoke and a strong burning smell the next day. The dealership's process requires them to report everything to the Kia tech line and await their response, leaving the owner without a working car and making monthly payments.
It is important to note that the number of complaints for the Kia Stinger 2022 is relatively low, and it is not clear if the issues mentioned above are widespread or isolated incidents. If you are considering purchasing a Kia Stinger 2022, it is recommended that you do thorough research and consider purchasing from a certified dealer to ensure that any issues are covered under warranty.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-29
- VIN: KNAE55LC1N6
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: I have a vehicle that has a safety recall for the oil feed line that can leak and catch fire and Kia is refusing to perform the recall because my VIN is not in there system. I have the recall notice and the fact my car dies in fact need the recall work and have proved that to them and they still refuse to help
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-09-15
- VIN: KNAE55LC6N6
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: Having an issue with my driver’s door switch lighting and the changing of different ambient lighting colors. They seem to be related. About a few months into owning my car (purchased May 2021) I was driving to work at night and the lighting on the driver’s door switches would randomly all flicker off/on. There was no pattern and the duration of how long they were off would be a half second to upwards of a few seconds. Just by chance, I started messing with things in the infotainment screen and noticed my ambient lighting wouldn’t change sometimes and it gave me a body control module error. This has probably happened 7 times total from September 2021 to March 2023 where both the door switch lights and ambient lighting do this together but never have they done it separately. Took the car to VanDevere Kia in November 2021 and they couldn’t reproduce either error and there were no stored codes. They claim to have reset the pin tension on the harness for the switches and packed it with dilectric grease. March 25 2022, had the same issue driving home from work. Restarted the car and that stopped the door switches from flashing. However the infotainment screen said “vehicle system connection is unstable. Please try again later”. Ie., I tried to pick default blue option in ambient lighting, that error would pop up, but if I kept trying blue it would eventually select blue. Some colors would throw the error and some wouldn’t. This time there was no BCM error. Dealer replaced my driver door switch module April 27 2022 due to a short. I didn’t have issues with those lights flickering for 7 months then it came back. In March of 2023, (2) separate times at night I had all interior lights, including instrument cluster lighting, flick off then immediately back on. I have videos and dealer work orders. Several others have this issue located here: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-02-20
- VIN: KNAE55LC4N6
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I brought my 2022 Kia Stinger GT -2 in to Greenway Kia, West Palm Beach FL on 02/20/2023 for routine maintenenace, check front end alignment and brake check as there was significant vibration while applying breaks and choppy breaking. The mileage is 4000 and driven primarily city/low speeds. Later that day I was told that the rotors needed to be resurfaced as they were warped. I questioned how a new $70,000 vehicle with low milage could have warped rotors this soon, as I work from home and rarely drive it. I was told by the service manager that this was a design flaw in the Kia Stinger and the vehicle should have been fitted with high performance slotted rotors by the manufacturer. I was charged $425 for the resurfacing because the 12/12 waranty has expired on the exact day the car was brought in for service. I stated that 12/20/23 does not end until midnight and I should not be charged anything for a design flaw in the vehicle, particularly a safety flaw involving the breaking system. The service manager stated that they have had similar issues with the Stinger GT with low milage as well and that I would have to file a compliant with Kia Motors. I do not beleive that I should have been charged anything for this repair and that the vehicle Stingers should be recalled due to being a safety hazard to owners as well as other motorist's on the roads. A high performance vehicle; 6 cylinder twin turbo with 368 HP 3.3 L engine should have appropriate and safe breaking system to stop the vehicle. Aside from the vehicle being unsafe with innapropriate rotors I believe that I was intentionally ripped off by KIA Motors, Greenway KIA or both. I advise all vehicle consumers to consider these facts before purchasing a high performance Stinger, or fo rthat matter any KIA product
VISIBILITY PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-03
- VIN: KNAE55LC8N6
- Components: VISIBILITY
- Summary: I was driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph when I heard the loudest bang I’ve ever heard before. I then heard glass shattering and thought glass was going to fall all over my 9 month old baby and I. I was in shock and I could have wrecked or drove off the highway from how scared I was. It was the loudest sound I’ve ever heard before and my ears are still ringing from it. I immediately took an exit, I was in shock and had no idea what happened because nothing hit my car. No one was behind me and no one was in close proximity of my car in front of me either. I pulled over into a parking lot and my sunroof glass was completely shattered and it looked as if it blew out from the inside of the car rather than the outside. There was no warning, nothing happened prior to this that would indicate there was any type of issue with my sunroof and I rarely use (open/close) my sunroof at all.

Your car is absolutely stunning! I can't help but admire it sitting in your garage. It offers both comfort and performance, making it the perfect practical sports sedan for anyone who wants both. While the build quality could be improved with less cheap plastics, the cabin still feels sturdy overall. The car transforms as soon as you put it in sports mode, becoming louder and more peppy. The comfort factor also makes for an amazing and comfortable driving experience. All in all, this car is perfect for anyone who wants practicality and fun in one package!

UPDATE: No major issues approaching 40k miles. Had drivers side rear window die but covered under warranty. Still a hoot to drive! We've been eyeing the Stinger since its release and we finally got around to buying one. This is our sixth new Kia from Peak Kia in Littleton, CO and 8th overall, so it's safe to say we're big Kia fans. I've always been impressed with Kia's return on investment, and the 2021 Stinger GT2 AWD is the best example of that. It's very well designed, making for a leisurely commute and a high-performance ride that's always under your control. It has enough power to get you into trouble, but enough features and tech to keep you out of it. This car is certainly a 'halo' car for the brand, and has been instrumental in introducing some of the newer tech that's filtered down into the rest of the lineup this year. I take the head-up display HUD for granted a lot and really would like to see it standard on more cars because it really keeps your focus on the road and not looking down at the instrument panel. It's especially useful on a commute as you can see the blind spot indicators on the HUD without even turning your head. The 360 camera is also great. Moving the ride mode to 'Sport' mode is really great as the driver seat bolsters move in to 'hug' you, just to let you know that you may be in for some g-forces (which you can call up on a gauge, by the way). The only 'complaint' is that the Apple CarPlay version in the 2021 requires a charging cable connected to it for communication, but the vehicle also has wireless charging and Bluetooth which is a bit inconvenient, and when you have a large phone like an iPhone 12 pro max it barely fits to begin with (once you trim the rubber pad on the charger). Wireless connections would be appreciated here. 17k miles later: We went on vacation from Colorado to Illinois/Michigan and back the summer of 2021 and long runs are definitely a pleasure in the Stinger. The Stinger was a lifesaver during a torrential downpour. The radar speed control and lane detection still worked, keeping us alerted to anything ahead and making sure we stayed in the lane. Throughout the winter, we had no problem getting anywhere. Even with my longer commute after moving to Greeley, which went from 20 minutes to 51 minutes, I wouldn't consider anything but the Stinger. While there have been some intermittent issues with the backup camera (blue screen), occasional interruption of downward pointing side mirrors when in reverse, and resetting HUD height occasionally back to default, overall it has been a reliable and enjoyable car to drive.

I love the overall appeal and feel of this vehicle! I recently purchased the 2021 Kia Stinger GT Line with the 2L turbo engine. Although it may not have a lot of power initially, it definitely has a lot of potential. The handling and overall feeling of the car is almost perfect. I do think that upgrading the sway bar would give it a little less flex around turns, but the overall strength of the structure is perfect. The car is very spacious for a sports sedan, which is great. The aesthetics of the car are absolutely amazing, although I did have to swap out the halogen bulbs in the headlights for LEDs. While I do think that there could be more safety features that come standard, I still give this car four out of five stars.

Looking for a replacement car for my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 took a lot of time and research. I considered Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and even the new mid-engine Corvette, but it was during a road trip to Arizona that I first saw two Kia Stingers. After researching the vehicle and watching countless YouTube videos, I was impressed by the Stinger's performance and features. I ended up ordering a Blue GT 1 with a sunroof, upgraded stereo system, and a few other options through a broker who got me a great deal. Upon first looks, I was blown away by the Stinger's interior layout and quality. The initial driving experience was with great caution, but the car is smooth, accelerates effortlessly, and the steering is crisp and accurate. This is truly the best car I have ever owned and I am pleased with my choice. I have received a lot of positive comments in parking lots and thumbs up from other drivers. On a recent road trip, we got 29 mpg on the fuel trip computer, and verified with calculating mileage divided by gallons purchased. Post break-in period, the car is an animal, easily outperforming Mustangs, Infinities, BMWs, and other vehicles at a much higher price point. If you're considering buying this car, you won't be disappointed!

Had this car for 3 months now and I have no complaints. I like the comfort of the drivers seat the heads up display is great. You now your speed, which when driving this car you need to keep track, and with the lane assist you always know when you get distracted. It’s fast and yet doesn’t get the attention from the police. People who had look at, driven or read car magazines knows this car and how it performs. Couldn’t be happier.

The car's handling leaves room for improvement, and the braking system could be more responsive. However, it is an aesthetically pleasing vehicle.
Consuelo Green 2024-09-16
Within the first couple of days, I experienced some lights popping up on the dashboard, which was a bit of a turnoff. But I guess that's what you should expect when purchasing a used car.
Berta Marks 2024-06-03
I appreciate the stylish design of the car and its performance. However, it falls short of the high standards set by the Kia brand. The build quality could be improved, and there are some issues with the cruise control and rattling in the rear hatch and sunroof. Despite these concerns, the car looks great and has a lot of potential. I understand that Kia has had some quality issues in the past, but I hope they will continue to work on improving their products. While I may not purchase a Kia product again, I am still grateful for the opportunity to drive this car and will make the most of it until I am able to make a change.
Scottie Dicki 2024-05-08
Although the car looks great, it did not meet my expectations. Despite purchasing the peppy 2.0t, I found it to be lacking in power compared to my previous 500+ hp V8. However, I appreciate the transmission, which is really good. The interior is also pretty good, although some features are not easily accessible. The rear visibility is poor, and the legroom is only adequate for younger children. Unfortunately, remote start is not available without purchasing the OEM part. Overall, I am not completely satisfied with my purchase, but I am confident that I made the best decision at the time.
Maxime Farrell 2024-04-21
Although the car has good trunk space, there are several negative aspects that need to be addressed. Firstly, the auto hold problem is a major issue as the engine does not turn on and it takes a considerable amount of time to turn back on. Secondly, the horsepower is weak and the acceleration response is slow, taking around 2 seconds. Additionally, there is no dimming mirror or side mirror defrost heat, and not enough storage space in the front seat. Lastly, there is no engine start button and using Uvo requires a lot of steps, such as taking out the cellphone, turning it on, finding Uvo, logging in, finding the turn on button, and entering the password again. Despite these issues, the car can still be improved to meet the expectations of its users.
