The Audi A3 is a subcompact executive/small family car (C-segment) manufactured and marketed by the German automaker Audi AG since September 1996, currently in its fourth generation.

The inline four-cylinder engines were transversely mounted. The Audi A3 was the eighth model in the Audi lineup to use five valves per cylinder. The dashboard was also used by the first generation SEAT León and second generation SEAT Toledo.
The United Kingdom market first received the Audi A3 in November 1996.
In 1999 Audi expanded the range with the introduction of more powerful versions: a 1.8 turbo rated 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp), and a 1.9 TDI diesel engine with unit injector "Pumpe Düse" (PD) technology and variable geometry turbocharger. The four-wheel-drive A3 1.8T quattro used either the 150 PS (110 kW; 148 hp) or 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) engine, and the same Haldex Traction-based four-wheel-drive system as the Audi S3 and the Audi TT. Also in 1999, Audi also introduced a five-door body.
In late 2000 the A3 range was revised with new headlights and rear lamps, other minor cosmetic changes, an improved interior, and the introduction of a six-speed manual gearbox, on the 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) 1.8 Turbo and the new 130 PS (96 kW; 128 hp) 1.9 TDI.
Audi's electronic stability control, traction-control, and brake force distribution computer became standard equipment in some countries.
Although the first-generation Audi A3 was replaced in Europe in 2003, the first generation model continued to be sold in some markets. Production of the first generation model stopped in Brazil in 2006.

ON DEC 15, 2018 I LOST TIRE PRESSURE WHILE DRIVING IN SHELBY TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN AND WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS SIDEWALL DAMAGE. ON MAY 31, 2018 I WENT OVER A POTHOLE AT THE INTERSECTION OF HURONTARIO & EGLINTON IN MISSISSAUGA ONTARIO, WHERE ONE OF THE TIRE GOT PUNCTURED (COMPLAINT FILED WITH CITY OF MISSISSAUGA, TRANSPORT CANADA AND PICTURE ATTACHED). (Volkswagen) is recalling certain front-wheel drive 2015-2020 Audi A3 Sedan, 2015-2019 Audi A3 Cabriolet, 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, 2018 Golf Sportwagen GP, 2018-2019 Golf Sportwagen A7, 2015-2017 Golf Sportwagen, 2015-2020 Golf GTI, and 2015-2020 Golf A7 vehicles. Due to a problem with a suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, fuel may flow into the evaporative emissions (EVAP) system and possibly leak out of the charcoal canister.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the suction pump, free of charge. Final owner notification letters for Audi owners were mailed on July 25, 2024. Love the car. It sounds like you've got everything you need: great handling, a super sunroof, a great stereo system, and a comfortable ride!

I'm happy to share my thoughts on my Prestige level Cab. The handling is fantastic, especially with the sport package that includes larger wheels and tighter suspension. The steering is precise and becomes even more so at higher speeds. The Quattro feature is a game changer, providing excellent traction on both dry and wet roads. I appreciate the high-quality materials used in the interior, and the simplified controls make it easy to navigate without any clutter. While there is no inside gas cap or trunk release, the cover still locks when the car is locked, and the lack of clutter is a plus. The only downside is that the seats are a bit too hard for my liking, which can become uncomfortable on longer drives. Additionally, the Cab did not have power seats in this year's model, which may be a drawback for those with multiple drivers. However, the B and O sound system (standard on Prestige and optional on other trims) is a standout feature. It has a natural sound and enough power to remain clean and balanced even at 75 MPH with the top down. Although the Cab does not have a sub-woofer like the sedans, the amp with a channel for every speaker and each balanced to the speaker and environment is impressive. The roll bar that deploys if the car senses a roll over is a great safety feature, and open air driving is a blast in the right weather. Overall, I highly recommend the Cab for anyone looking for a fun and stylish convertible.But I completely understand your concern for safety. I have to say, this car has received more compliments from strangers than any other car I've owned before. My wife, who values reliability above all else, sometimes thinks I choose my cars based on other people's opinions. But I assure you, that's not the case. Fortunately, I only have a few bad habits, one of which is my tendency to buy lots of vehicles! Over the years, I have owned many, some of which were good (1986 GTI, 2008 Lexus GS350), and some, well, not so good (1982 Plymouth Reliant, 1999 Chevy Blazer). My A3 Quattro is a nice blend of the two good ones mentioned. It's a true sports sedan. I have had no problems with the car in my one year of ownership (I bought it used). Please note that maintenance costs may be higher, but so far, I feel that the A3 is well worth it.

I purchased my A3 back in 2019 with 64k miles. I opted for the Premium Plus model with the virtual cockpit, Quattro and the B&O sound system (which is a must-have; I wouldn't buy it without it). This car is a beast, and the AWD makes it incredibly quick off the line. There are very few cars that can beat me off the line, and I absolutely love it. It's also incredibly sturdy. My fiance accidentally ran over a metal support beam on the highway in the middle of the desert at over 80mph (think building support) while I was asleep, and the car handled it like a champ. There was a huge thud, and the tire light came on. We pulled over and saw that the beam had knocked out both tires and cracked the rear rim. Despite all of this, she was able to maintain control of the car as if nothing had happened. I got a flat tire when I was racing someone at 155mph (stage 1 removed the governor) and the car still didn't lose control. I now have 138k miles on the car and have only had minor issues. The first was a leaking fluid reservoir ($20 from the Audi dealership) and a misfire issue due to a bad spark plug. The only thing I have a complaint about is the start/stop system. It's very jerky.. not sure how they messed that up. Stage 1 upgrade has it disabled on startup, and I never turn it on. Also, start/stop apparently doesn't care too much about battery drain as my battery has died twice while parked. One more thing... Oddly, if the start/stop is activated and the car is 'off', taking off the seatbelt stops it from turning back on. This is especially dangerous in traffic, and the car doesn't do a good job of letting you know why it all of a sudden won't start again! Very poor design on Audi's part. Other than that, the car is amazing. I have people offering to buy it off of me weekly. With all of the miles the car has now, I drive it less because I feel like I'm pushing my luck. It still pulls as hard as it ever did, and everything works flawlessly. Maintenance has always been cheap.It's great to hear that you're enjoying your German vehicle so much! I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for a new ride. It sounds like you're really happy with it, and I'm glad to hear that it's your favorite car so far. If you're ever in the market for a new car, the RS3 is definitely worth considering!

I was disappointed to find out that my 2018 Audi A3 Quattro convertible did not come with a spare or a donut. I was not informed of this during the sales pitch, and unfortunately, I had two unrepairable flat tires in less than 18 months. This caused me some inconvenience as I had to buy new tires each time. I am currently in a dispute with the Audi dealer that sold me the car for not disclosing this information. I have owned several cars in the past, including a Fiat, a Capri, a previous Audi, several Mazdas, and several Toyotas, and all of them came with full-size spares or usable donuts. I hope that this issue can be resolved soon. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I love the look of this car and it handles fantastic at highway speed. However, I have had some issues with it since the day I drove it off the lot 2 years ago. Unfortunately, I am about to trade it in for a different German make. I have found that this car is not meant to be driven in the city as the ride on bumpy city streets can be quite rough and the interior rattles as a result. This has been frustrating for me and not what I expected from a luxury vehicle. I have to turn the radio up to drown out the noise. Additionally, the moon roof area squeaks and rattles after every rain, which is quite annoying. When the engine is cold, the transmission shifts into gear really hard, which has been uncomfortable. Audi could never explain this to me. One of my vents would blow ice cold while the others blew hot, which was inconvenient. Sometimes I had to turn the temperature all the way up to get any heat at all. Finally, I had some issues with the dealership service department at multiple locations, but they did their best to help me troubleshoot the problems.

When I first considered Audi, I was under the impression that the A4 was the smallest sedan they offered, and was pleasantly surprised to discover the A3. I initially loved my purchase, as the car is visually appealing, handles well, has a powerful engine, and boasts impressive interior appointments. However, I have experienced some reliability issues that have dampened my enthusiasm for the car. Over the past three years, I have had to deal with a failed water pump, a failed main computer (which Audi struggled to fix), a failed thermostat, and a few other issues that have required the car to be in the shop for several days at a time. Additionally, my A3 has been subject to three recalls during my ownership, two of which Audi has declined to fix. With my warranty set to expire in a few months, I am reluctantly considering other brands. While I would like to keep my Audi, the cost of a 2-year extended warranty (almost $3000) is simply too high given the issues I have experienced. It is a shame, as I really appreciate the styling of Audi vehicles. Consumer Reports suggests that the A4 and A5 have better reliability, but I prefer the size of the A3. I suppose I will have to look into the BMW 2 series instead.
