Common 2012 Aston martin V8 vantage problems

Based on the complaints from owners of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage 2012, several common problems have been identified:

  1. Sportshift Transmission Issues:
    • Owners have reported problems with the Sportshift transmission, including gears not engaging properly, slipping transmission, and difficulties backing up hills. The transmission system requires careful interaction and driving technique to avoid stalling and erratic gear shifts. Proper understanding and handling of the Sportshift system are crucial to prevent these issues.
  2. Mechanical Latch Failures:
    • Mechanical latches controlling the boot and hood have been known to fail randomly, leading to issues with opening these parts of the car. When these latches malfunction, owners may face challenges accessing certain areas of the vehicle. Resolving mechanical latch failures typically requires professional assistance to ensure proper functioning.
  3. Clutch Problems:
    • The clutch in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage is highlighted as a significant concern among owners. While the clutch itself is not faulty, improper usage by drivers can lead to premature wear and potential failure. The high engagement point of the clutch pedal requires drivers to allow full engagement before accelerating to prevent unnecessary strain on the clutch system.

These issues reflect common challenges faced by owners of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage 2012 model. Addressing these problems may involve a combination of proper driving techniques, regular maintenance, and, in some cases, professional assistance to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the vehicle.

Is the Aston Martin V8 Vantage reliable?

For such a high-performance machine, the V8 Vantage's dependability is impressive. Any early niggles have long since been addressed and the car enjoys a reputation for excellent reliability.

Is an Aston Martin V8 Vantage a good investment?

Not a bad investment! That said, we think a 1970's V8 is a perfect car if you're looking to invest in this range. If you hit the jackpot and manage to find one that's been properly serviced and with low mileage, we'd say it's the best car you can find for your money.

Is Aston Martin Vantage expensive to maintain?

The former Aston Martin owner mentions that annual servicing costs were approximately $692 at a specialist, or $1,038 at a dealer. Additionally, tires cost about $230 each and lasted 10,000 miles, while brake disks were $300/axle and lasted roughly 20k miles.

Who makes Aston Martin V8 Vantage engine?

Production of V8-engined Aston Martin cars resumed in 2005 with a new generation of the Vantage, powered by the Jaguar AJ-V8 naturally aspirated V8 engine. Since 2016, Aston Martin has switched to the Mercedes-Benz M177 turbocharged V8 engine, beginning with the DB11 model.

If the driver ignores the dash warning message and exits the vehicle without applying the parking brake, the vehicle may roll away. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will install a support bracket to hold pipe securely in position, free of charge. The recall began July 18, 2017. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-949-379-3100. Aston Martin's number for this recall is RA-07-0024.

Negative 2012 Aston martin V8 vantage car reviews

  1. Columbus Koelpin 2024-09-21

This car has been a bit of a disappointment. On the first day, the clutch went out and it had to be picked up by a flatbed. Unfortunately, the dealer needs it for 10 days and the part has to be ordered from the U.K. It's hard to trust a car again after it strands you, but I'm hopeful that once it's fixed, it will be a reliable vehicle. I did notice that the leather above the speedo/tach is coming off and you can see the staples that hold it down on the underside. It's not exactly what I expected from a luxury car. However, I'm still optimistic that it will be a great car once these issues are resolved. In the future, I may stick with BMW's and Lexus's, as they have a reputation for being reliable and well-made.

  2. Garett Sawayn 2024-04-16

I had some issues with the AM V8, such as failing gearboxes, lack of torque, and smouldering clutches. Unfortunately, the technical team at AM did not provide satisfactory explanations for the lack of quality. As a result, I decided to sell the car after only eight months. If you're looking for a reliable car that retains its value, I would recommend a Porsche 911 S with a sports exhaust and the sport chrono option. Although it may not be as visually stunning as the V8, it is faster, more reliable, and more affordable. It's worth noting that the quality issues with the AM V8 may cause its residual value to decrease. If you're considering purchasing a used car, be sure to check its warranty history.

  3. Henry Leuschke 2024-04-04

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2nd Aston Martin. I have to say, the engine is truly excellent and reliable, which is always a plus in a high-performance car like this. While the road holding is okay for regular highway driving, I did notice that the suspension can be a bit of an issue, especially in fast and tight corners. However, I still think it's a great car overall and I would definitely consider buying one again despite the unsophisticated ride. Thanks for listening!

Positive 2012 Aston martin V8 vantage car reviews

  1. Trystan Schaden 2024-11-01

I took delivery in May and have had my best driving experiences ever since then. The looks of this car get almost too much attention, but it always gets a 'thumbs up'.

  2. Jermey Reilly 2024-09-25

I recently took delivery of a 2011 N420 roadster with a 6-speed manual. I had previously owned two Porsche 911 C4s, and while I loved them, I was in the mood for a new driving sensation. The N420 is simply magnificent. It's very fast, comfortable, and beautiful. The torque is amazing in every gear, and the sport suspension strikes an excellent balance between firmness and compliance. The sport exhaust is perfectly tuned, with a subdued sound under 3K and a beastly growl when you cross 3K, especially under rapid acceleration.

  3. Tom Lubowitz 2024-09-18

I have to say, I absolutely love pushing the crystal ignition button and hearing the guttural vroom that gets me on my way. I adore the looks and drive of this vehicle. Previously, I drove a BMW 540i and I currently also own a Dodge Viper. I have had no major problems with the vehicle.

  4. Malcolm Eichmann 2024-09-08

Hi there! I just wanted to share my thoughts on my car. Although my ratings may seem a bit harsh, I want to assure you that I absolutely LOVE my car! It's the perfect weekend car that always puts a smile on my face. While it may not be as fast as some other exotics, the handling and braking are exceptional. The ride quality is a bit stiff, but that's a small price to pay for such an elegant and beautiful piece of machinery. Driving it makes me feel special and I'm so grateful to have it. I've had it for about 2.5 years now and have put a little over 17,000 miles on it. It's not just a garage queen, but a work of art that I truly enjoy. And the best part? I haven't had any mechanical issues with it so far!

  5. Fernando Senger 2024-08-17

I've been driving my Vantage since May and I have to say, I like it! Although I'm not head over heels in love with it, I do appreciate its unique qualities. As someone who has driven Porsches for the past few years, I do miss them a bit, but the Vantage has its own charm. While I do think the car could have been a bit wider and a few inches longer, the front exterior is simply gorgeous. The back may not be to everyone's taste, but it has a certain Japanese-inspired flair. In my opinion, the starting price for this car should be around $155,000 after improvements. At $110,000, it's a steal for this category of car!
