Common 2011 Aston martin V8 vantage problems

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage, produced between 2005 and 2018, is known for its performance and unique driving experience. However, like any other vehicle, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported.

  • Sportshift Transmission Issues: The Sportshift transmission in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage has been a source of frustration for many owners. The system is not an automatic, but rather a single-clutch automated manual that relies on paddles for shifting. Drivers have reported issues such as gears not engaging properly, sluggish shifting, and random stalling. Some owners have also mentioned that the car stalls when backing up a hill, which is a significant inconvenience .
  • Electrical and Electronic Problems: Some owners have reported issues with the car's electronics, including the navigation system. There have been instances where the navigation randomly closes or forgets its job, which can be frustrating. Additionally, mechanical latches that control the boot and hood latch have been known to fail, leaving owners stranded .
  • Handbrake Shake: A lighter but still noteworthy issue is the Handbrake Shake, where the car shakes when the handbrake is applied, especially during cold weather.
  • Maintenance and Repair Costs: Aston Martin vehicles, including the V8 Vantage, are known for their high maintenance and repair costs. Parts and labor can be expensive, and annual inspections and warranty extensions are not inexpensive.
  • Tire Performance: The V8 Vantage's stock tires have been criticized for poor performance, particularly in cold weather and with high power engines. This can lead to issues with tire slippage and instability, especially in manual clutch vehicles.
  • Interior Quality: While the interior of the V8 Vantage is often praised for its elegance, some owners have reported issues with the quality of materials used, particularly in the V8 models. This can include loose trim and cut-rate leather quality.
  • Rust: Rust has been reported on the subframe of some V8 Vantage models, which can be a costly issue to address.
  • Gearbox and Clutch Wear: The six-speed manual gearbox and clutch in the V8 Vantage are known to experience excessive wear and tear, which can lead to expensive repairs.
  • Paint Issues: Some V8 Vantage models are prone to paint reactions around the door handles, lower parts of the doors, on the wiper arms, and a few other locations. This is a straightforward fix at a body shop, but it is still an inconvenience for owners.
  • Limited Glovebox Space: The V8 Vantage has a tiny glovebox, which is only large enough to fit gloves. This can be an issue for owners who need more storage space in the cabin.

In summary, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage is a high-performance vehicle that offers a unique driving experience. However, it is not without its common problems, which include transmission issues, electrical and electronic problems, handbrake shake, high maintenance and repair costs, tire performance issues, interior quality concerns, rust, gearbox and clutch wear, paint issues, and limited glovebox space.

2011 Aston martin V8 vantage recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2011 Aston martin V8 vantage.

2017-06-21
  • Manufacturer: Aston Martin The Americas
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: Aston Martin the Americas (Aston Martin) is recalling certain 2011-2014 V8 Vantage vehicles equipped with 7-speed Auto-Shift Manual (ASM) "SportShift II" transmissions. A connector for the clutch fluid line may break, resulting in a hydraulic fluid leak.
  • Consequence: The loss of hydraulic fluid may prevent the vehicle from shifting out of the gear that it is in. Additionally, if the vehicle is being driven when the fluid level significantly drops, the transmission may shift to an emergency neutral as the vehicle comes to a stop. If the driver ignores the dash warning message and exits the vehicle without applying the parking brake, the vehicle may roll away. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will install a support bracket to hold pipe securely in position, free of charge. The recall began July 18, 2017. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-949-379-3100. Aston Martin's number for this recall is RA-07-0024.
2017-06-21
  • Manufacturer: Aston Martin Lagonda of North America
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE
  • Summary: Aston Martin The Americas (Aston Martin) is recalling certain 2011-2012 V8 Vantage vehicles. The affected vehicles received updated transmission and engine control software which may conflict with the pre-existing clutch settings and may cause the transmission to shift to neutral, or enable clutch protection mode which give abrupt gear shifts.
  • Consequence: If the transmission shifts into neutral or does not operate as intended, there is an increased the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will reinstall clutch system software, free of charge. The recall began August 18, 2017. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-949-379-3100. Aston Martin's number for this recall is RA-07-0022.

The affected vehicles are equipped with interior door unlocking mechanisms that may not function when the vehicle has been locked from the outside. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
  • Consequence: If the doors cannot be opened by an occupant from inside the vehicle, they may be trapped inside, increasing their risk of injury.
  • Remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will disable the double locking feature by reprogramming the software, free of charge. The recall began August 10, 2016. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-888-923-9988. Aston Martin's number for this recall is RA-01-0021.

In the affected vehicles, the electronic control module for the driver and front passenger seat heaters may fail, preventing the seat heaters from being able to be turned off.
  • Consequence: If the electronic control module fails, the seat heater could get hot enough that areas of the seat may overheat and smolder, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
  • Remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional module to the circuit that can interrupt the power to the seat heaters in case the electronic control module for the seat heaters fails, free of charge. Due to a manufacturing error, the accelerator pedal arm may break.
  • Consequence: If the accelerator pedal arm breaks, the engine will return to idle and the driver will be unable to maintain or increase engine speed, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will replace the accelerator pedal assemblies. The recall began on February 11, 2014. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service by calling 1-888-923-9988. Aston Martin's recall number is RA-03-0017. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes recall 13V-228. Any vehicle that has been remedied under the previous recall needs to have the current remedy applied.

Negative 2011 Aston martin V8 vantage car reviews

  1. Hardy Feil 2024-10-18

This car has been a bit of a disappointment. On the first day, the clutch went out and it had to be picked up by a flatbed. Unfortunately, the dealer needs it for 10 days and the part has to be ordered from the U.K. It's hard to trust a car again after it strands you, but I'm hopeful that once it's fixed, it will be a reliable vehicle. I did notice that the leather above the speedo/tach is coming off and you can see the staples that hold it down on the underside. It's not exactly what I expected from a luxury car. However, I'm still open to giving it a chance and seeing how it performs in the long run. Although, if you're looking for a more reliable option, you might want to consider BMW or Lexus. They have a great reputation for quality and performance.

  2. Hal Moore 2024-06-25

I had some issues with the AM V8, such as failing gearboxes, lack of torque, and smouldering clutches. Unfortunately, the technical team at AM did not provide satisfactory explanations for the lack of quality. As a result, I decided to sell the car after only eight months. If you're looking for a reliable car that retains its value, I would recommend a Porsche 911 S with a sports exhaust and the sport chrono option. Although it may not be as visually stunning as the V8, it is faster, more reliable, and more affordable. It's worth noting that the quality issues with the AM V8 may cause its residual value to decrease. If you're considering purchasing a used car, be sure to check its warranty history.

  3. Darrick Metz 2024-05-20

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2nd Aston Martin. I have to say, the engine is truly excellent and reliable, which is always a plus in a high-performance car like this. While the road holding is okay for regular highway driving, I did notice that the suspension can be a bit of an issue, especially in fast and tight corners. However, I still think it's a great car overall and I would definitely consider buying one again despite the unsophisticated ride. Thanks for listening!

Positive 2011 Aston martin V8 vantage car reviews

  1. Kirk Schowalter 2024-10-28

I recently took delivery of a 2011 N420 roadster with a 6-speed manual. I had previously owned two Porsche 911 C4s, and while I loved them, I was in the mood for a new driving sensation. The N420 is simply magnificent. It's very fast, comfortable, and beautiful. The torque is amazing in every gear, and the sport suspension strikes an excellent balance between firmness and compliance. The sport exhaust is perfectly tuned, with a subdued sound under 3K and a beastly growl when you cross 3K, especially under rapid acceleration.

  2. Thurman Erdman 2024-10-27

I traded my 2006 coupe for a leftover 2007 roadster and I couldn't be happier. The '06 had several early production problems, which were sorted out by AM nicely. This car, on the other hand, is simply perfect. In my opinion, it looks even better than the coupe and the sportshift (once you get used to it) is even more fun than the manual, allowing for even more aggressive driving on the twisties. The top fits well and the car is quiet with it up. Wind buffeting is not much of a problem top down. I get even more thumbs up and admiring looks in the roadster than in the coupe. This is a very special, very exclusive car. To the best of my knowledge, there are only three in KC and I have yet to see the other two.

  3. Remington Lubowitz 2024-10-11

I just bought this car and I absolutely love it! It puts a smile on my face every time I get in. The interior is the nicest I've seen in its price range and it drives perfectly. My only complaint is that I'm now spoiled when it comes to other cars.

  4. Vernon Schinner 2024-10-04

Truly the most exciting car out there in its price range. Not seen everyday like its competitors. The craftsmanship is out of this world. Power, beauty, and soul - if you buy one, you'll know what I mean.

  5. Nikko Gleason 2024-09-01

An amazing car! You've driven Porsches for the past 7 years and this car tops any of them. It's beautiful to look at, feels incredible, and sounds amazing. You bought yours without ever driving one and couldn't be happier.
