2006 Honda Pilot problems
The Honda Pilot is a mid-size crossover SUV with three-row seating manufactured by Honda since 2002. Primarily aimed at the North American market, the Pilot is the largest SUV produced by Honda. Pilots are currently manufactured in Lincoln, Alabama, and the Pilot was produced in Alliston, Ontario until April 2007. The first generation Pilot was released in April 2002 as a 2003 model.
The Pilot shares its platform with the Acura MDX, as well as the North American market Odyssey minivan. The Pilot's unibody construction and independent suspension are designed to provide handling similar to that of a car, and it has integrated perimeter frame rails to permit towing and light off-road use.
Prior to the introduction of the Pilot, Honda marketed the compact crossover CR-V and the Honda Passport (a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo). The Honda Passport that was sold between 1993 and 2002 was a truck-based design. The Pilot is Honda's largest SUV, although the 2010 Crosstour surpassed the Pilot in length. The Pilot is now currently in its fourth generation, with multiple design changes occurring from getting bigger and resembling a truck to downsizing and becoming sleeker to now a slight mix of both.
The Pilot is sold in North America and the Middle East, while the Honda MDX (first generation Acura MDX) was marketed in Japan and Australia for several years. The second-generation Pilot was also sold in Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, Latin America, and the Philippines.

- Summary: I just purchased a 2006 honda pilot 4 wheel drive....i did not get under the suv to look at the frame structure, i had the differential fluid changed, the suv was put on a lift and noticed there is extreme rusting going on under the vehicle. in reading some complaint from previous owners, the possibility of the frame separating from the body is a possibility , in addition to other parts doing the same thing, this presents a severe safety issue for me and my family. IF HONDA did not protect the under carriage with the proper rust prevention inhibitors , this might cause the under parts to fall apart.... I THINK HONDA NEEDS TO DO WHAT IS NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE RUST AND COAT THE NECESSARY PARTS TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENING BECAUSE OF THE RUSTING , COULD HAVE PEOPLE KILLED IN GOING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS. THIS LOOKS LIKE A TREMENDOUS LAWSUIT AGAINST HONDA FOR NOT PROPERLY INSULATING THE METAL TO AVOID THE RUSTING.. THIS NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION BY THE HONDA CORP TO AVOID FUTURE LAWSUITS............................................................... PLEASE EXPEDITE THIS COMPLAINT TO THE PROPER HONDA PERSONNEL TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM............................................................................................................................. Not even for 5 minutes. Subframe holds all your suspension One severe bump could make wheels fall off and roll away Im thinking the recall on the older CRVs should probably be extended to Pilots as well since I'm having similar issues as listed in this recall article. [XXX] Honda Corportate told me to bring to nearest dealership and have them inspect and provide diagnosis so they can assess what they can do for me. They’ve have it for 2.5 months. I’ve called and emailed 30 times and still have not been given an answer. I see online that tons of people in rust belt states are having the exact same problem with this exact same model and year. As fellow teachers and car enthusiasts, my wife and I are always on the lookout for the perfect vehicle. We've had good experiences with Honda and Toyota in the past, but our six months with the Pilot have been nothing short of exceptional. We're thrilled to report that this is the first car we've owned that has performed flawlessly. We're getting over 22 mpg (city and some freeway), and the comfort on long trips is simply amazing. During a recent drive into L.A., we had a close call with an obstacle on the freeway. Thankfully, the VSA (vehicle stability assist) worked exactly as it was supposed to and saved our lives. We're so grateful to Honda for exceeding our expectations.

This car was amazing! It lasted through so much and was incredibly reliable, even reaching an outstanding 310,000 miles with only one major repair at 180,000 miles when the transmission died. Our family put a lot of miles on the car, averaging almost 40,000 miles a year towards the end of its life. As long as we maintained it properly, the car ran really well. Although the engine began to burn oil pretty badly around 270,000 miles, it still lasted another 40,000 miles. Overall, it's a great car for a kid's first car or a family car because it's very roomy! I would definitely recommend it 10/10!

This car is really nice to own! The navigation system is very clear and easy to use, and you can even personalize it with your own choice of colors and voice (male/female). The car rides great, has a powerful engine, and seems to be very solid and well-built. While there are a couple of minor issues, such as having to unlock the door before opening it after turning off the ignition, and the stereo sound quality not being the best, overall it's a great vehicle to have!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with the 2006 Pilot. I absolutely love it! The ride is so smooth and the interior is incredibly comfortable. As someone with lower back problems, I was worried about driving it on long trips, but I've never had any issues. Plus, the 3rd row seats are perfect for my kids and they have plenty of room. I know some reviews mention the gas mileage isn't great, but I've been keeping track and I average about 17 mpg with mostly city driving, which I'm really happy with. I'm definitely considering upgrading to the newer model when it comes out. Overall, I just wanted to say that I truly love my Pilot!

Our 2006 Honda Pilot has been a reliable vehicle for the past 14 years, with almost no issues until recently. Despite accumulating an impressive 256,000 miles (410,000 kilometres), it is now starting to show its age. Although the gas mileage has declined over the years, we have been satisfied with its performance. However, as our needs have changed, we have decided to downsize to a Subaru Outback. While it is difficult to say goodbye to the Pilot, we are confident that the Outback will meet our needs.

We purchased our 2006 Pilot EX-L used in 2014 with 119k miles. It has been a great car for around town, road trips, and even trips to Home Depot 😂. The engine runs smoothly and the leather interior is quite nice. However, we have had some trouble with all four windows. They have a tendency to fall down in the door frame without any warning. We have had to replace all four windows a couple of times. Our auto glass place informed us that the material that holds up the glass is not very durable. Even the Honda dealer only provides a one-year guarantee on the replacement. It is quite frustrating! Although there are many complaints about this issue on the internet, including a failed class action lawsuit, Honda has not acknowledged the problem nor taken any responsibility for it. They do offer a repair service for $400 per window, but it is not a permanent solution.

Our 2006 Pilot has been a reliable vehicle with great gas mileage averaging 22 miles per gallon in combined city and highway driving. Although we have experienced some issues with the rear speaker and tire sensor, these were resolved after a few visits to the dealer. However, we have had ongoing trouble with the front seat back cover, which has required multiple trips to the dealer for replacement. Despite this issue, we remain confident in the overall quality of our Honda Pilot.

Primarily bought for my wife, currently we have 12000 miles on the pilot and have had no problems. The leather seats, DVD, AWD are great features and it's definitely a bargain compared to what other SUVs cost and charge extra for.

We have known six people with 06 or later Pilots, and all of them have had to take their cars to the dealer because mice crawled into the HVAC. This is due to a design flaw, as it is not covered enough in the undercarriage. Each visit costs $250. Additionally, the side trim on the front leather seat on our car (and three others we know of) has worn through due to cheap material. If you live in an area with snow, we advise against buying a Pilot with 4WD and expecting good control on slippery or steep roads. The ABS locks up and the auto 4WD has no bite, even with new mud/snow tires. These are design flaws. If you need a car with ample room, good traction, and no issues with mice or trim, we recommend considering other options.

Hi there! I've had my Pilot for 18 months now and wanted to share my experience. I've noticed a creaking noise from the door seals and driver's side B-pillar, but luckily the service guy at the dealer has been able to help by lubing all the seals during my oil changes. While the noise usually goes away after being lubed, it does tend to come back once the lube dries out. Unfortunately, the noise from the B-pillar hasn't been fixed yet, even after a few attempts. Additionally, I've had some issues with broken/leaking struts that need to be replaced. Despite these issues, I've found the gas consumption to be pretty average, averaging 18-20 mpg with mixed city and highway driving, which is pretty close to the advertised number of 18-24 mpg. Thanks for listening!
