Common 2014 Nissan Frontier problems
The Nissan Frontier, a popular pickup truck, has been known to have several common problems, particularly in the 2014 model year. This article will delve into these issues, providing a detailed analysis based on complaints from owners of this vehicle.
One of the most frequently reported problems is related to the EVAP (Evaporative Emission Control System) issues
. This system is designed to prevent fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. However, in the 2014 Nissan Frontier, owners have reported erratic behavior, such as the vehicle spamming dashboard warning messages. The exact cause of this problem remains unidentified, but it appears to affect multiple 2022 Frontier models as well.
Shifter assembly issues are another common problem in the 2014 Nissan Frontier. Many owners have reported that the vehicle refuses to shift in various ways, with some experiencing difficulties moving the shifter out of "Drive" or out of "Park" altogether. This issue seems to affect many second-generation Frontier models, from 2014 to 2021
. The problem is attributed to either a misaligned shifter assembly or a small steel spring that becomes stuck inside the shifter, physically preventing it from engaging drive.
The Nissan Frontier's tendency to roll away while in park has been a significant concern for owners. Despite some 2020 and 2021 Frontier owners reporting the problem, Nissan allegedly failed to acknowledge it until 2022, leading to two separate recalls. The problem is attributed to a software issue that causes the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of injury or damage.
Fuel tank issues have also been reported in the 2014 Nissan Frontier. Models from 2014 to 2018 have experienced problems with the fuel tank pressure, causing the vehicle to either refuse more fuel or occasionally send it back out. This issue appears to be related to EVAP problems and can be resolved by replacing a release valve
Seat anchor points in 2014 Nissan Frontier models have been found to be attached to the car's body, increasing the risk of injury during a collision. Nissan recalled a few 2014 Frontier models due to this issue. Additionally, there have been reports of loose seat belt brackets, which can break in a crash, leading to the loss of seat restraint and increasing the risk of injury
In summary, the 2014 Nissan Frontier has been known to have several common problems, including EVAP issues, shifter assembly problems, fuel tank issues, and seat anchor point concerns. These problems have been reported by many owners and have led to recalls and repairs. It is essential for Nissan to address these issues to ensure the safety and satisfaction of their customers.
Is the 2014 Frontier reliable?
The Nissan Frontier is a fine pick if you're shopping for a used compact pickup truck . It offers robust payload and towing abilities, and its available V6 gives the truck plenty of punch. Also, the Frontier rates above average for reliability, and used models are often the least expensive in the class.
Are there any recalls on 2014 Nissan Frontier?
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2014 Frontier Crew Cab vehicles manufactured June 11, 2014 to June 26, 2014. The affected vehicles were manufactured with an out of specification anchor nut installed on the weld nut plate where the rear seat belt anchor is attached.
How many miles will a 2014 Nissan Frontier last?
With proper care and maintenance, this truck is designed to last over two decades and can easily clock more than 200,000 miles or up to 20 years of service. This long-lasting performance is thanks to the Frontier's robust engine, superior corrosion protection, and high-quality production standards.
What is the best year of the Nissan Frontier?
The golden age of Nissan Frontier reliability is hard to beat. This includes the 2013 and 2014 model years as well as the 2019 model year.

They said since this is covered under the 5 year 60 K miles that they would not cover the cost. My 2014 truck has 66K. I said to them I felt that this is a safety issue and there should not be a time or mileage limit attached to a safety issue since the airbags will not deploy and that this problem is occurring often, according to Nissan's own service technicians. Also, from one of Nissan's website "How often do Air Bag Clocksprings need replacement? The airbag clock spring is designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. I feel this should be investigated by your agency.

I previously owned a Tacoma TRD crew cab and although I enjoyed the truck, I didn't enjoy paying for it. Recently, I found myself in the market for another vehicle and decided to give the 2014 Frontier SV 4x4 a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's just as great as the Tacoma, but without the high price tag. The Frontier handles great, rides smoothly (even over potholes in Northern Virginia), has plenty of power, and the interior is even more comfortable than my old Tacoma. I'm excited to own this truck for many years to come. In an unfortunate incident, I was rear-ended by another Nissan Frontier at 50+ mph while sitting at a red light. Although my Frontier didn't survive, I was fortunate to escape with only a mild concussion and a little whiplash. Overall, I'm impressed with the safety of the Frontier, especially in rear impacts.

I recently traded in my trusty 2003 Toyota Tundra base model with regular cab, 5-speed manual transmission and a 3.4 liter V6 engine. Unfortunately, I had badly injured my left foot in a falling accident and kicking the clutch was painful. As much as I love Toyotas, the price on the used Tacomas was too much for my budget. Luckily, I found a well-maintained 2014 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab with the SV package. Although it's not as big as the Tundra, the Frontier is quite comfortable and its automatic transmission and cruise control were blessings to my injured left foot. I also found the Frontier tracked well in its lane rather than wandering the way my Tundra had. The only fault was in the limited rear view along the driver's side of the car via the door-mounted rearview mirror. After a few hair-raising moments, I learned to lean forward and look back along the driver's side of the truck to watch out for traffic. Once I got used to that, it wasn't a problem. I absolutely love the 4.0 liter V6 engine, which offers 60-plus more horsepower than I had in my Tundra. No more being left behind at the stop light by everybody else (including grandma). I bought the truck in December 2016 with just under 35,000 miles on it and saved a good $8,000 to $9,000 compared to a new car. Do I see that as a great deal? Oh yes--Nissan trucks are made to last and I saved a lot more than I gave up by purchasing a late-model used pickup. The previous owners clearly maintained the vehicle well. Also, the built-in towing package is a plus as my wife and I--both in our 60s--are ready to trade tent-camping for the comforts of a trailer. The more I drive this truck, the more I like it. And while I would have preferred a gray-colored truck, the shiny black highlighted with chrome bumpers, sidesteps, etc., is definitely a

This is my second Nissan Truck. I purchased it new on 7/3/13 and so far, it's been great. It's a very nice truck with lots of power. I'm currently getting an average of 20.6 MPG in mixed driving, which is about the same as my previous '93 Nissan KC 4 cylinder AT 2WD that I had purchased new 20 years before. I've had no problems with it as my only vehicle for the past 2 years. I looked at and test drove many trucks, but the Nissan Frontier came out on top as the best truck for the money. UPDATE @ 3 Years: So far, so good with no problems. One piece of advice I can give is to avoid putting these trucks in mud, water, or rough off-roading. I don't think these trucks will stand up to that type of abuse. So far, I'm pleased with my 2013 SVV6 KC AT 2WD Nissan Truck. UPDATE 1/8/17: So far, so good. It's the best truck I've ever owned. I just got a fill-up and got 21 MPG in mixed driving. It has plenty of power to pull my utility trailer and takes curves better than my previous '93 Nissan Truck. The truck is so tight that it took about 8,000 miles to start limbering up. So far, no problems and it's a very good truck for the money. If you get one, stay out of the mud, water, and any rough off-roading like some people do who abuse their trucks and don't care if their truck will last and be dependable. UPDATE @ 4 Years 7/9/17: So far, so good. It's still the best truck I've ever owned. I'm averaging 20.4 MPG. The steering was very tight in the beginning, but it's limbering up nicely at almost 10,000 miles. It's much better to be too tight than too loose. Get one now before this second-generation Frontier is upgraded with a new style model and enjoy saving money. When the new style model comes out, they'll have to pay for the new style costs, and they will cost you more. Don't put it in the mud, water, or severe off-roading like some people do if you want your truck to last and be dependable. Remember this;Marketing shows severe activities, which a pickup truck is not intended for. Remember those commercials showing trucks pulling tree stumps out of the ground. Don't be a dumbo. A big 4-wheel drive tractor can't even do that without first having to dig the stump out with a backhoe or pushed over with a bulldozer before the tree is cut off. These are not heavy-duty trucks, but if used according to the owner's manual, i.e. transporting people, cargo, and pulling a trailer within the maximum tow rating, then I think that these trucks will last a long time. If you want the paint to stay nice and shiny, use Meguiar's #6 Mirror Glaze Professional Cleaner/Polish/Wax regularly. Save money and get one before the new style model comes out. **Update @ 4.5 years** 1/12/18 So far so good. No problems. The motor runs smoothly. The average MPG is 20.4 mpg. Still on the original battery. So far, no oil consumption. The engine seems to like mid-grade gas better than regular grade. My advice is to keep them out of the mud and water. If you want mud and water, get a Jeep or a tractor. Use the Nissan trucks for their intended purpose, transportation, hauling cargo, and pulling a trailer within their rated range, if you want them to last. Don't get suckered into rock climbing and other off-road activities that will do your truck in, and don't buy one that has been abused by mud, water, rock climbing, and other off-road activities because you'll be buying a messed up Nissan truck. A Nissan truck is the least expensive truck that's available new, and there are many punks out there that buy them to abuse them because they are the least expensive new truck, then they get rid of them after the warranty runs out. Don't buy a punk-driven truck of any brand.

You've made a great choice with your purchase! Your KC truck is the perfect size for your needs, providing ample room for two people and their luggage while still being easy to handle in today's traffic and parking situations. While you mentioned that you wish it were quieter, you have a great idea to improve this with future tire selection. I also agree that the Frontier's seating position is more comfortable than the Tacoma's, which is the only other truck you considered. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

The Pro-4x has the most comfortable seats of all the Frontier models thanks to its manual 10-way adjustable seat. Although the fuel mileage is a major drawback, in my opinion, it is still the only small pickup truck that I would recommend. It performs extremely well off-road and in snow storms, and its reliability is outstanding.

The engine idles roughly and causes a lot of vibration. Despite the dealer's repairs, the front seat still rattles. The climate control can be difficult to regulate, especially in the winter when it is slow to warm up. Additionally, the vehicle tends to wander from side to side and produces a loud noise while driving.

I bought my 2014 Nissan Frontier Pro 4x brand new on 01/11/14 and have put 53,567 miles on it already. While I've had some issues with the on-board computer and phone connectivity, overall I've had a good experience with this truck. I mostly drive on the highway with cruise control and while I haven't seen 21 MPG, I still get decent gas mileage. It's important to note that there are some maintenance requirements that come with owning this vehicle, but the dealers have been helpful in keeping my truck in good shape. I did add a 3

This may not be the best vehicle to drive in windy conditions. The body material is made of cheap sheet metal and the paint is fading and rubbing off at the driver's side door panel. Even though it's less than a year old, the foam rubber seal around the doors is already splitting wide open. I haven't used the radio since it was 4 months old because the speakers sound awful and it affects Bluetooth as well, making it difficult to understand callers. The interior plastic or vinyl scratches too easily and has permanent scuff marks just from work boots. Even though it's only 2 weeks old, I noticed blemishes on the back plastic bed wall that look like sun damage, although that's not possible. The suspension is awful and cannot handle 5000 lb trailering as suggested in the vehicle specifications. The leaf spring shackle 1/2 inch bolt was reduced to 1/4 inch for the nut and broke, resulting in the loss of both leaf springs within 4000 miles. The engine is always shifting gears and speeding up on its own while driving. As someone with a commercial A license who has driven every type of vehicle from tractor trailers to bucket trucks, I have to say that since the dealer and Nissan Motor Corporation never stood by their factory warranty, I would never suggest anyone buy a Nissan.

I purchased my 2014 SV Crew Cab in 2017 with only 15,000 miles on it. It has been over 2 years now and I have put 52,000 miles on it. Although I initially wanted a Tacoma, I decided to go with the Frontier because it was more affordable. While the seats are not the most comfortable and the heater takes a while to warm up, the AC works well. However, the front seats can get quite chilly, which can be uncomfortable for passengers in the back. On the bright side, I really appreciate the tinted windows and the sliding bed extender with tie downs. I use them frequently for transporting kayaks, bikes, lawnmowers, washers, dryers, and even for securing my cooler or small items. I drive about 50 miles round trip, 5 days a week on the highway to work and have not had any issues with repairs. I have taken two long trips, each about 7-8 hours each way, and the truck has held up well. My husband even thinks it will last me a lifetime with the way I drive (which is admittedly quite slow). Although I find the seats uncomfortable and I am not a fan of the body style, I do appreciate the practicality of the sliding bed extender and tie downs. I have not yet towed any trailers or tracked the gas mileage, so I cannot provide a review on those aspects. As a side note, I purchased fake leather seats from Wal-Mart.com that match perfectly and look great, although they do have a bit of a strange smell at first.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car that I bought from Matthews Nissan in NY. I purchased it as 'Certified' with 38,333 miles, but unfortunately, it stopped running on 9/19/20. I had to get it towed to Matthews, who informed me that all four catalytic converters were bad. The estimated cost to repair them is $5000.00, and that's before checking out the rest of the vehicle. So, I had to get it towed out. Thanks for listening!
