2024 Volvo S60 problems

The Volvo S60 is a compact executive car manufactured and marketed by Volvo since 2000.
The first generation (2000–2009) was launched in autumn of 2000 in order to replace the S70 and was based on the P2 platform. It had a similar designed estate version called Volvo V70 and a high performance engine and sports-oriented suspension version called S60 R. Styling cues were taken from the ECC concept car and the S80.
The second generation (2010–2018) was released in 2010 for the 2011 model year and has its own estate version, known as the Volvo V60.
The third generation joined the Volvo line-up in 2018 for the 2019 model year. It is built on a shortened version of the Scalable Product Architecture platform, in America's first Volvo factory in Ridgeville, South Carolina. The US became the sole global source of the S60 sedan after production in China was phased out in early 2019.

Common 2024 Volvo S60 problems
The Volvo S60, a luxury sedan, is known for its minimalist style, excellent safety ratings, and comfortable ride.
Transmission performance issues are among the most commonly reported problems by Volvo S60 owners. These issues include hard shifts, long shift intervals between gears, or loss of transmission performance altogether. The check engine light may also illuminate along with these issues.
Front upper strut mounts on Volvo S60s from the 2000s are likely to wear and fail prematurely. Strut mounts are part of the suspension system, and their failure can cause loud noises when going over bumps or potholes. The problem is most common in model years between 2001 and 2009.
Volvo S60 owners have also reported that headlight bulbs burn out quickly, typically costing about $200 to replace. This issue mostly occurs in model years between 2002 and 2012, and there is no fix available but to replace the bulb itself and move on.
Electronic throttle module failure is another common problem in S60 models from 2001 to 2008. Volvo at one point extended its warranty coverage of the part to ten years or 200,000 miles, but that ten-year period has lapsed for all of the affected model years.
In addition to these common problems, the search results mention a software issue with the vehicle connectivity module (VCM) that sends location information to the emergency services after a collision. This issue applies to cars constructed between 26 September 2018 and 30 October 2018, and any Volvo dealer should be able to perform a software update to fix the issue.
Another potential problem is a loose rear suspension nut, which could affect S60s made between 25 September 2018 and 1 April 2019. Contact your local dealer if your car is affected, as they will be able to check the bolts for tightness and replace them if necessary.
Finally, the automatic emergency braking (AEB) system, which is supposed to apply the brakes when the forward collision sensors detect an imminent collision, might not actually do so. A software update is required to sort the issue, and it applies to V60, S90, V90, XC40, XC60, and XC90 models built after 21 January 2019.
In summary, while the Volvo S60 is known for its style, safety, and comfort, it is not immune to common problems such as transmission issues, premature strut mount failure, and electronic throttle module failure. Owners should be aware of these potential issues and consider regular maintenance and servicing to ensure the longevity and reliability of their vehicle.
What is the main problem with Volvo S60?
If you are having performance problems with your S60, the ETM (Electronic Throttle Module) is known to get blocked by a carbon build up. The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor also gets a build up. Poor engine idling, bad starting and lack of power/acceleration are all symptoms of these issues.
Is Volvo reliable 2024?
We expect the 2024 S60 will have about average reliability when compared to the average new car. This prediction is based on the 2021 model, plus the Volvo brand scores.
Why not to buy Volvo S60?
In typical Volvo fashion, the ride is stiff. Handling is sound but unexceptional. The S60 is plagued with Volvo's unintuitive infotainment system, which requires too much swiping, tapping, and eyes-off-the-road time.
Why did Volvo discontinue the S60?
In the US, the XC40, XC60, and XC90 accounted for 75 percent of the brand's sales in June. Volvo's lineup in the UK now looks different. The automaker has removed the S60, V60, and V90 from its lineup, citing the growing demand for its SUVs as interest dwindles in its sedans and wagons.

I wrote this review to help others who are considering the 2021 S60 T-8 Hybrid in Pebble Grey with black interior. As someone who always reads reviews before making a purchase, I wanted to share my experience. Overall, this car is an excellent value and one of the best sedans on the market. While there are a couple of minor issues, such as the lack of a ventilated seat option and the design of the FOB, these are outweighed by the car's many strengths. Compared to an Audi A6, the Volvo S60 T-8 is very similar and in some ways superior. The T-8 is faster than the Audi and has much more comfortable seats. In terms of interior and exterior design, both cars are equally great looking. However, the T-8 has superior technology, including a large touch screen infotainment system and a Bowers & Wilkins audio system that provides a better sound experience than Audi's Bang & Olufsen system. While the Bowers & Wilkins option is a $3,200 upgrade, the base Harman Kardon system is also a great option. As someone who doesn't put many miles on their car, I decided to try a hybrid and the T-8 has exceeded my expectations. Overall, I highly recommend the 2021 S60 T-8 Hybrid.I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the T-8. It's a fantastic car that handles really well and is very practical for daily driving. Plus, where I live, there are free plugins available which is a great bonus! I also wanted to mention that the T-8 is surprisingly quick, especially in Polestar mode (which is definitely worth the $1,200 price tag). It's a great option if you're looking to beat out Audis, Mercedes, and BMWs. I hope this information helps you make a decision on whether to buy or lease!

I've been driving the S60 T8 Inscription Extended Range for 3 months now and I must say, I'm really enjoying it. The electric powertrain provides decent acceleration and works well even above interstate speed limits. On battery alone, I can get 40-45 miles of range which is really impressive. However, the only downside is the slow charging time. It takes more than 5 hours to recharge an empty battery pack, even on a level 2 charger. It's not a problem if you charge overnight or at work, but if you need a quick recharge at home between trips, it's not possible. I hope Volvo will update the internal charger amperage soon.

I absolutely love the car's looks, both inside and out. I have noticed that some people have complained about the infotainment system, but I personally find it very easy to navigate. The voice controls are also very responsive. While many people don't typically associate Volvo vehicles with speed, I have found that it can easily outpace aggressive drivers on the freeway, much to their surprise! The car handles beautifully and is both fun and relaxing to drive. The suspension is just firm enough to provide a sporty feel without being jarring, and the seats are incredibly supportive and comfortable. While I am still unsure about the long-term reliability of the vehicle, everything has been running smoothly so far.

I'm thrilled to share my experience with Volvos! My family has been driving Volvos for generations, and I recently purchased my third one - a 2021 T6 R-Design S60 in Pebble Grey Metallic with Slate interior. This car is fully loaded with every available option, including the Bowers & Wilkins audio system and the Polestar Engineered software upgrade. I couldn't be happier with my purchase! As someone who used to race motorcycles and ski, I appreciate a car that is both fast and comfortable, and this Volvo delivers on both fronts. While I considered several comparable BMWs, Mercedes-Benz, and Genesis cars, I ultimately chose the Volvo for its combination of style, performance, and technology. The Polestar option gives the car a nice little rumble from the exhaust, and I can't wait to take it on some long trips once it's safe to do so. The car's gorgeous looks, sporty handling, and comfortable interior make it a joy to drive. The Bowers & Wilkins sound system is absolutely the best I have heard in a car, and the touchscreen system is very intuitive. While there are a couple of minor cons, such as the lack of approach lighting and a power tailgate, overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase. All in all, I absolutely love this car. If you are in the market for a great sports luxury sedan and want something you won't see at every stoplight, it deserves a look.

I've only had my S60 Recharge for a week, so I'm still getting used to the vehicle. However, I'm already super pleased with it! I specifically wanted something that would help me get used to EV without being totally reliant on it, and this car is perfect for that. The interior is beautiful, although some space has been reduced, particularly in the console between the front seats. It does take a little bit of remembering to plug in the charging, but the car comes with two adapters for electrical sources - 120v and 240v (dryer config). I was looking for a car that would react highly responsively, and this car definitely delivers. It moves with low-end torque and continues on through to 60 MPH. The switch between EV and Gas feels seamless, and this S60 has the updated console with Google, which I've just started using. If it works as advertised, it will be even better than my S60 2020 user interface. The sales team has been in contact with me for follow-up and has offered any assistance that I may need. So far, I'm very happy!

I purchased an S60 based on the positive reviews on Edmunds.com. However, I experienced a common issue with the vehicle vibrating violently at highway speeds, which was disappointing. Despite this setback, I returned the car and will consider other options in the future.

My 2021 car has been experiencing problems since just two weeks after purchase, with condensation appearing in the headlamps. Despite the condensation not meeting Volvo's replacement standards, the issue continues to occur intermittently. Unfortunately, the issues have persisted, including problems with the anti-collision system activating without reason, not receiving service notifications, fob syncing issues, Car Play not functioning, and seat memory not storing. These issues have resulted in numerous visits to the dealership and a significant investment of time and money. However, I remain confident in my decision to purchase this car and believe that these issues will be resolved.
