- Summary: The Gates Corporation (Gates) is recalling certain aftermarket Tru-Flow Water Pumps, part number TFW 41127, sold at certain NAPA Auto Parts and/or installed by automotive service technicians after November 1, 2013 (and manufactured August 2013 through October 2013) that have a black-colored pulley/sprocket or do not have 'US9377' stamped on the water pump housing. These service replacement parts were sold for use in model year 1999-2005 Audi A4, 2000-2006 Audi TT, 1998-2005 Volkswagen Beetle, 1999-2006 Golf, 1999-2008 and 2011-2013 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000-2005 Volkswagen Passat. In the affected water pumps, the pulley or sprocket that turns the timing belt may develop microfractures causing the timing belt to fail.
- Consequence: A failure of the timing belt may cause the engine to shut down, potentially increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

...story. I have owned my car for the last four years and it has been incredible on diesel mileage. In the city, I get anywhere from 500 to 550 miles and 550 to 625 miles on a tank. Unfortunately, within the first 3 years of owning my car, I had to replace the transmission which cost me approximately $1200. Although I was not happy about it, the dealership agreed to refund me half the amount I paid. In the 4th year, the seals and headlight bulbs were replaced under warranty. However, I did have some issues with the spill guard not being good for dark clothed interior and I learned not to replace the air filter with an after-market unit as it can be dangerous.

This is my second Golf, my fourth VW, and my first TDI. I'm really happy with it because of its great fuel economy. My wife also loves her new Jetta TDI (VW #5) after trading in her Beetle Convertible.

As someone who has driven many cars in both England and the US, I can say that the GOLF TDI is a popular choice in a market where a large percentage of cars run on diesel due to the price of gas. The golf is a well-built and solid car that offers many airbags for added safety. Owners of the golf appreciate its reliability and frugality, and once they become VW owners, they rarely switch to other brands. The car's handling and styling are excellent, and the Monsoon sound system is of high quality. My primary reason for buying the GOLF TDI was to get a safe, well-built, reliable, and quality car that offered good gas mileage. I get around 40 mpg, which is excellent. The only downside is that I regret not considering the Passat TDI, as the rear legroom space in the GOLF TDI is limited.

I purchased my Golf in September and unfortunately, I was involved in an accident with an Impala last week. I am still unsure of the extent of the damage, but thankfully, I was unharmed. Despite the occasional 'clunk' from the transmission when the engine is not heated up to 90, the Golf is a quick and comfortable car to drive. The engine's performance is disappointing, especially when driving uphill. However, it is decent for surface streets and flat areas. The handling is satisfactory and the interior space is adequate. Although the cloth seats tend to attract hair and dust, they are still comfortable. Overall, it is a suitable option for those with short commutes in flat areas.

Although I had high hopes for good mileage in exchange for weaker performance, I was disappointed to find that the car's performance was lacking and it only achieved 20mpg on the highway. However, I must say that the car is decent overall, except for the powertrain. It is advisable to avoid the highway and be prepared for higher gas bills similar to those of an SUV.
