The Infiniti M is a line of mid-size luxury (executive) cars from the Infiniti luxury division of Nissan. From 2013 (model year 2014) on it has been marketed as the Infiniti Q70, reflecting the company's new naming scheme.

The first iteration was the M30 Coupé/Convertible, which were rebadged JDM Nissan Leopard. After a long hiatus, the M nameplate was used for Infiniti's mid-luxury sedans (executive cars). First was the short-lived M45 sedan, a rebadged version of the Japanese-spec Nissan Gloria. The next generations, the M35/45 and M37/56/35h/30d, became the flagship of the Infiniti brand and are based on the JDM Nissan Fuga.

First generation (1989–1992)

The Infiniti M30 was a 2-door coupé based on the Japanese market Nissan Leopard (chassis code F31). It was launched in 1989 for the 1990 model year as a luxury coupe alternative to the Infiniti Q45, and was intended to be an alternative to the Lexus SC and Acura Legend coupe for the North American market.

Unlike its competitors that were designed with the American market in mind and were launched as brand-new models, the M30 was based on a somewhat dated platform that was originally designed for the Japanese market; when the Leopard was imported to the United States, few changes were made to the exterior but the interior was revised to better suit American tastes; a leather interior was standard in the M30, and several features in the Leopard such as a center-mounted television screen and a digital instrument cluster weren't available in the M30 as those features were perceived as gimmicks in western car markets.

The M30's angular design aesthetics and on-road performance were viewed as outdated, especially considering a redesigned Acura Legend coupe was launched in 1991. The interior came in for criticism for its outdated ergonomics and lack of room. While the Japanese-market Leopard had received a new dashboard along with the 1988 facelift, economics precluded making a left-hand-drive version of the new dashboard and the M30 was instead fitted with the LHD version of the R31 Skyline's rectilinear dashboard, first presented in 1985.

The M30 made up for these deficiencies in its somewhat lower price; whereas the 1990 Acura Legend coupe started at $27,325 before options and the 1990 BMW 325i started at $24,650 before options, the M30 started at $23,500, and had no factory options, per Infiniti's pricing structure used at the time. Dealerships offered an in-car cellular telephone and in-dash CD player as optional accessories, amongst other items.

The contact received a recall notification for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V755000 (Power Train) however, the dealer informed the contact that the parts for the recall repair were not yet available. The contact stated that while making a left turn from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle drove 2 MPH and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that as he released the accelerator pedal and depressed it again, he was able to drive the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and advised the contact that they would follow up with the dealer. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

  • Summary: Driveshaft malfunctioning. Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Driveshaft malfunctioning is causing the vehicle to shake violently at speeds above 60 mph. My safety and others safety is put at risk when I'm accelerating above 60 mph and the vehicle begins to shake violently causing the vehicle to veering into on coming traffic or nearby lanes. This problem has been reproduced and confirmed by an independent service center. The vehicle hasn't been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This problem first appeared about 4 years ago but progressively gotten worse. In December 13, 2020 — An Infiniti driveshaft recall includes more than 2,700 vehicles with driveshafts that may break. The recalled vehicles include 2011-2013 Infiniti M56, 2012-2013 M35 Hybrid, 2014 Q70 and 2014 Infiniti Q70 Hybrid vehicles. Unfortunately, my vehicle wasn't included in this recall and it yet should.

WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED ON AGAIN AND BEFORE THE WARNING SYMBOLS COME BACK ON, THE STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED AND CAR DRIVES FINE. INFINITI HAS RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE HICAS ACTUATOR. THIS HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR INFINITI OWNERS AND ARE THEN RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE 4WAS CONTROL BOX. REPLACING THE CONTROL BOX ALSO DOES NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I HAVE READ AND JOINED A NISSAN/INFINITI FORUM WHERE OWNERS THAT HAVE THIS EXACT PROBLEM HAVE FOLLOWED THE RECOMMENDATION FROM THE NISSAN AND INFINITI DEALERSHIP AND STILL HAVE THE WARNING LIGHTS ON. I CONTACTED INFINITI CORPORATE OFFICES FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, BUT WAS INFORMED THEY DO NOT TRACK THIS TYPE OF INFORMATION. THE 4WAS AND STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ISSUE IS HAPPENING TO BOTH NISSAN AND INFINITI MODELS AND THROUGHOUT VARIOUS YEARS. THE CONCERN IS THAT INFINITI'S RECOMMENDATION IT TO REPLACE THE HICAS ACTUATOR AND SPEND $6K (PART COST $5,500 AND LABOR $400, BUT THAT DOES NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION I HAVE FOUND, INFINITI IS NOT ACCURATELY DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM.

  • Summary: ISSUE: PASSENGER SEAT BELT LIGHT CONTINUES TO REMAIN ON AFTER THE PASSENGER IS NO LONGER SITTING ON THE SEAT. ROOT CAUSE FROM DEALER: DEFECTIVE PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR. ONLY WAY TO TURN OFF THE SEAT BELT LIGHT IS TO EITHER PUT THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT ON OR TURN ON AND OFF THE CAR. I NOTICED WHEN I PURCHASED THE INFINITI 2011 M56 THE SEAT BELT LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ON AFTER A PASSENGER HAS BEEN SITTING ON THE PASSENGER FRONT SEAT AND EXITS THE VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER JUST NEEDS TO SIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FOR A FEW MINUTES TO EXHIBIT THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS I DON'T KNOW IF THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY PROPERLY AS THE OCCUPANCY SENSOR IS FALSELY TRIGGERING A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATOR WILL SOMETIMES BE ON OR OFF WHEN THE SEAT BELT LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER TAKING THE CAR BACK AND FORTH ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND TO MULTIPLE INFINITI DEALERSHIPS, WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TO GET TO THE PROBLEM. ONE OF THE DEALERSHIP WAS FINALLY ABLE TO CONCLUDE IT WAS DUE TO THE FRONT PASSENGER OCCUPANCY SENSOR. EVEN HAD AN INFINITI ENGINEER FROM THE NORTHER CA REGION CONFIRM THE ISSUE WAS INDEED DUE TO THE OCCUPANCY SENSOR. THIS ISSUE WAS FIRST REPORTED WHEN UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY HOWEVER INFINITI AND INFINITI CONSUMER AFFAIRS WILL NOT HONOR THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY. ALSO I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY JUST FOR THIS PURPOSE HOWEVER THIS PART IS NOT COVERED.

TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN, WHICH I WAS TOLD HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SOLENOID SWITCH THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY FIXED.. THE VEHICLE HAS SEVERE HESITATION WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE IMMEDIATELY AFTER SLOWING OR STOPPING. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS TO MAKE A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN INTO TRAFFIC FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE HESITATES FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS, AND THEN JERKS SUDDENLY AND GOES. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR MISSES FROM ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS A RESULT OF THIS WITH MY CHILD IN THE CAR!! ALSO, WHILE IN AUTOMATIC DRIVE THE VEHICLE REPEATEDLY WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR WHEN REMOVING FOOT FROM BRAKE TO ACCELERATOR, BUT INSTEAD ROLLS BACKWARD (SIMILAR TO A MANUAL TRANSMISSION) FORCING ME TO IMMEDIATELY HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT COLLISION INTO VEHICLES BEHIND ME. THE DANGERS OF THIS VEHICLE ARE A LIABILITY ON MY PART IN THE EVENT THAT IT CAUSES ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE T WHEN TURNING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY BUT SERVICE CENTER HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE RESET THE COMPUTER BUT THE ISSUES JUST RETURN. WHILE GETTING OVER INTO ANOTHER LANE TO PASS A VEHICLE MY CAR STALLED FOR A FEW SECONDS WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER CAR. TWO MONTHS AGO I WENT TO ACCELERATE ON THE FREEWAY AND THE ENGINE JUST REVVED UP UNTIL I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. MY MOM WAS IN THE CAR AND SHE AGREED THAT THIS IS NOT NORMAL! ON TWO OCCASIONS I HAVE ALSO NOTICED WHILE COMING TO A STOP MY CAR WOULD JUMP FORWARD BUT THOUGHT IT WAS ME UNTIL I SAW OTHER POSTS REGARDING THIS. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2011 Infiniti M56.

  • Components: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
  • Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (INFINITI) is recalling certain 2011-2013 M56, 2012-2013 M35 Hybrid, 2014-2018 Q50, Q70 Hybrid, 2014-2019 Q70, and 2015-2019 Q70L two-wheel drive vehicles. The driveshaft can fatigue and break.
  • Consequence: A broken driveshaft can result in a loss of drive power, or a vehicle roll away when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Dealers will replace the driveshaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 13, 2024. Owners may contact INFINITI's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. INFINITI's numbers for this recall are R24A5 and R24A7.

  • Consequence: A broken driveshaft can cause a loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash, or may disable the parking brake, increasing the risk of a rollaway and injury.
  • Remedy: Infiniti will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driveshaft, free of charge. The recall began February 5, 2021. Owners may contact Infiniti customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

    I've been driving a BMW 550i since its first release in 2006 and I must say, I've had a lot of fun and appreciation towards my Beemer. However, I didn't notice any substantial improvement from the 2006 to 2008 model, even though the horsepower remained the same. This year, the horsepower has been increased to 400, but the price has also jumped to almost 1.5 times. So, I decided to take a look at other brands such as Audi, Lexus, and Acura. Eventually, I ended up at the Infiniti showroom. Although I wasn't initially thrilled about the exterior, the performance of the car is outstanding. The comfortable seating, smooth driving, and 420 horsepower really blew me away. Additionally, the navigation system, rearview camera, and gear mode changing are all excellent.

    Having previously owned a G-35X, I must say that the M-56X is quite a beast! While it may not have the same handling characteristics as the G-35, which were fantastic, the M is a bigger car with 420 ponies under the hood that are just awesome. Unfortunately, we had to get rid of it and replace it with an SUV, so now there is an Outback in the garage. I already miss the M!

    Although Infiniti has made significant improvements to the M for 2011, there are still some areas that require attention. While I am fond of my M56, I have noticed that certain features worked better on my '08 M45, such as XM NavTraffic, which is not as reliable on the M56 and other 2010+ Infiniti models. Additionally, some features are counterintuitive, like the armrest button that you press OUT to fold the side mirrors IN, and the song selection button that you press UP to switch to the next song DOWN on the list. The doors lock automatically at 15mph, which may not be ideal for everyone. Furthermore, there is limited ability to customize the warning/intervention systems, which may lead one to turn them off. Overall, I still enjoy my M56, but there is room for improvement.

    I had an E550 that I liked a lot, but it wasn't very sporty. However, the interior of the new car is much nicer than the E550 and the performance is about the same. I love the change, but I have nothing bad to say about the E550. I also like the larger feel of the Infinity. I think the E550 is more expensive when you consider option for option.
