The name "Camry" derives from the Japanese word kanmuri (ja:冠, かんむり), meaning "crown". This follows Toyota's naming tradition of using the crown name for primary models starting with the Toyota Crown (1955), continuing with the Toyota Corona (1957) and Corolla (1966); the Latin words for "crown" and "small crown", respectively. Maintaining this theme was the Toyota Tiara (1960) named after the "tiara" form of crown. The Atara trim level name used on the Camry in Australia since 2011 means "crown" in Hebrew. The rebadged Camry variant for Japan, the Toyota Scepter (1991)—took its name from "scepter", a royal accessory to a crown.

I received this car from my parents when I got my license and it holds a special place in my heart as I grew up with it. However, I am a bit sad that I will have to get a new car in a year since my parents think this car is getting old. It's a shame that cars like these are no longer made as it has proven to be extremely reliable. The only things that have needed fixing since we got it were the alternator, shocks, and muffler. This car is powerful and the fact that it's a V6 is fantastic. Despite its age, it runs very well and is extremely reliable and safe. I actually prefer it over my sister's new Camry. While the fuel economy could be a little better, it doesn't guzzle gas. If I could ask Toyota to make this car for me again, I definitely would.

This car is amazing! It has been in my family for years, starting with my parents who drove it back and forth to work, totaling 130 miles. Now, with 341,000 miles on it, it's still going strong. I only had to replace the original muffler 2 years ago (in 2001). It's such a great car that it even inspired us to buy a 2004 Camry.

I purchased this car from a used car dealership three months ago. Although the body style had some hail damage, I was drawn to its V6 engine and excellent gas mileage. Additionally, it has proven to be a dependable vehicle. While I have had to replace the tires, exhaust, and starter recently, it still gets me from point A to point B. As a college student, I appreciate the low insurance rates. Overall, I believe this car is a great choice.

This car is definitely one of the most surprising cars you will ever find. It is reliable, a ton of fun to drive, and the V6 engine is absolutely superb with nearly 1000 RPMs of acceleration after reaching MAX HP, giving you great acceleration in higher gears. The car's handling is surprisingly good for a 4-door sedan, and it's extremely comfortable to sit in. The car looks really nice if you step back and look at it from the front. It is incredibly good in the snow and just an all-around great car. The V21 chassis that this car is built on is said to be the best Camry Chassis period and was the choice of chassis used by CHP for their prototype Police Interceptor. Overall, it's a wonderful car and great in the snow.

I bought this car with 165k on it and one week later took it on a non-stop 16h road trip. The following year, I took another road trip (7hrs each way) with no problems either way. I also made about 5 trips (3.5hrs each way) in one summer with no problems. It has full power, cruise control, and air conditioning. Not bad for a '91! Basically, I've had this car for over a year, put 20k miles on it, and haven't had to spend a penny on it mechanically. All I needed was new tires. Sure, it's not the prettiest car out there, and you won't be winning any races with it, but it's an awesome car to get you where you need to go. After all, that's what cars were built for!

My uncle gave me a base model 1991 Camry for my first car, and it was a great first car! It got me from point A to point B, and even survived three separate car accidents with only body damage. Luckily, my dad was able to fix the car every time. I even gave it a name, Cameron. Sadly, one day on my way to class, the steering locked up while I was turning and the engine shut off completely. Every time I turned the engine back on, it would only run for a few minutes before shutting off again. We had to tow it to the mechanic, and that was the end of my little Camry. I cried like I had lost a person, but it was a wonderful year and a half, and I would highly recommend this car to anybody!

I purchased this car a year and a half ago. Despite encountering a strange intermittent problem where the car stalls at stops for no apparent reason and runs sluggishly, I have invested a significant amount of money to resolve the issue. Despite numerous visits to the mechanic, including the dealer, the problem remains unresolved. However, I remain confident that a solution will be found.

I ended up buying a Camry because everyone said it was the best, but it ended up being a nightmare. I spent thousands of dollars repairing it, even though it only had 56,000 miles on it. Although my experience with this vehicle was disappointing, I learned a valuable lesson. I had a gut feeling that something wasn't quite right during the test drive, but I still went ahead with the purchase. Unfortunately, the vehicle had a major electrical problem and the fuel pump died shortly after I bought it. Despite these issues, I am confident that I will make a better choice next time by having the vehicle thoroughly checked out before making a purchase. I will be more cautious in the future and only consider newer models from '92-'96.
