2002 Chevrolet G30 problems
The Chevrolet Van or Chevy Van (also known as the Chevrolet/GMC G-series vans and GMC Vandura) is a range of vans that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1964 to 1996 model years. Introduced as the successor for the rear-engine Corvair Corvan/Greenbrier, the model line also replaced the panel van configuration of the Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle was sold both in passenger van and cargo van configurations as well as a cutaway van chassis that served as the basis for a variety of custom applications.
Produced across three generations (1964–66, 1967–70, and 1970–96), the model line was sold under a wide variety of model names under both the Chevrolet and GMC brands. The first two generations were forward control vehicles (with the engine placed between the seats); the third generation adopted a configuration placing the engine forward of the driver. The second and third generations shared powertrain commonality with the C/K pickup truck model line.
After the 1996 model year, GM retired the G-Series vans, replacing them with the GMT600-platform Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana.

Common 2002 Chevrolet G30 problems
The Chevrolet G30, introduced in 1996, is a popular choice for those needing a reliable and spacious van. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems reported by owners. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues with the 2002 Chevrolet G30.
- Fuel Filter Issues: One of the most common problems reported by G30 owners is related to the fuel filter. The fuel filter is responsible for removing impurities from the fuel before it reaches the engine. Over time, the fuel filter can become clogged, leading to a decrease in engine performance and fuel efficiency. Symptoms of a clogged fuel filter include difficulty starting the engine, stalling, and poor acceleration. Replacing the fuel filter regularly can help prevent these issues. Advance Auto Parts offers a range of fuel filters for the Chevrolet G30, starting from as little as $2.49.
- Paint Scratches and Chips: Another common issue reported by G30 owners is paint scratches and chips. These can occur due to various reasons, such as minor collisions, road debris, or even regular wear and tear. PaintScratch.com offers touch-up paint for the Chevrolet G10-G30 Series, which includes the G30, to help restore the vehicle's original appearance. They guarantee that their touch-up paint will match the original factory color chip provided by Chevrolet.
- Engine Problems: Some G30 owners have reported engine problems, such as overheating and reduced power. These issues can be caused by various factors, including a faulty thermostat, a clogged radiator, or a malfunctioning fuel pump. Regular maintenance, such as checking the coolant level and replacing the fuel filter, can help prevent these issues. Additionally, using high-quality fuel and oil can also help maintain engine performance and longevity.
- Transmission Issues: Transmission problems are also common in the Chevrolet G30. These issues can include difficulty shifting, slipping gears, and delayed engagement. These problems can be caused by low transmission fluid levels, worn-out clutch plates, or a faulty solenoid. Regularly checking the transmission fluid level and replacing it when necessary can help prevent these issues. Additionally, using a high-quality transmission fluid can also help maintain transmission performance and longevity.
- Suspension and Steering Problems: Some G30 owners have reported suspension and steering problems, such as a loose steering wheel, excessive play in the suspension, and uneven tire wear. These issues can be caused by worn-out bushings, loose steering components, or damaged suspension components. Regularly inspecting and replacing worn-out suspension and steering components can help prevent these issues.
In conclusion, while the Chevrolet G30 is a reliable and spacious van, it is not without its share of common problems. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent many of these issues, ensuring that the vehicle remains safe and reliable for years to come.

- Summary: WHEN THE 'ENGINE CHECK LIGHT APPEARS ON MY DASHBOARD OF THE VAN THE FIRST TIME, I TOOK THE VAN BACK TO THE DEALER 'ANDERSON CHEVROLET' FOR RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, AFTER THE 1ST ATTEMPT WAS DONE BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE LIGHT STILL APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD. WHEN I TOOK MY VAN BACK TO THE DEALER THE 2ND TIME, THE SALES AGENT CALLED STEVE GLASS RESPONDED PRETTY RUDE AND HE EVEN SAID, "GO AHEAD NOT TO PAY! (MONTHLY CAR PAYMENTS)" WHAT A SHAME IS THIS IS A BRAND NEW VAN THAT I PURCHASED, HOW IN THE WORLD THAT THE CAR DEALER CAN DENY ANY FAILURES OF MY VAN?! I AM VERY UPSET AS MY 6 TO 7 FRIENDS PURCHASED VEHICLES FROM THE SAME DEALERSHIP, THEY TREATED ME QUITE IRREPONSIBLY AND UNFAIRLY! SINCE IT IS THE ENGINE PROBLEM AND MAY CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGES POTENTIALLY, I REALLY HAVE NO OTHER CHOICES BUT DEMANDING A REPLACEMENT OF THE EXACT SAME VAN THAT I PURCHASED. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!*AK
