The Daewoo Lacetti is a compact car manufactured and marketed globally by GM Korea since 2002. The first-generation Lacetti was available as a four-door sedan and five-door station wagon, styled by Pininfarina—and five-door hatchback styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The sedan and wagon were marketed as the Daewoo Nubira in some European markets and as the Suzuki Forenza in North America. The hatchback, was introduced in 2004 and marketed as Daewoo Lacetti5 in South Korea, Suzuki Reno in the United States. After the 2004 model year, it was marketed as Chevrolet Nubira and Lacetti in Europe, as the Chevrolet Optra in Canada, Latin America, Africa, Middle East, India, Japan and Southeast Asia, and as the Holden Viva in Australia and New Zealand.
In 2008, the second-generation Lacetti was launched as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere, a badge-engineered version of the Chevrolet Cruze, co-developed by GM Daewoo, Holden, and General Motors. It was marketed under the Daewoo marque until the beginning of 2011, when the brand was discontinued, and was thereafter marketed under the Chevrolet and Holden brands.
The name Lacetti derives from the Latin "Lacertus", meaning "youthful".

Common 2008 Suzuki Reno problems
The 2008 Suzuki Reno, a compact car manufactured by Suzuki, is known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues primarily affect the engine, exterior, transmission, airbags and seat belts, and brakes.
One of the most serious problems concerns the daytime running lights. A defect in the daytime running lamp module can cause excessive heat to build up, leading to headlights catching on fire. This issue resulted in a recall by Suzuki in May 2014, but many owners reported not being informed about the recall for two months.
The 2008 Reno has also experienced shifting problems, with owners reporting rough shifting as a significant issue. This can be a sign of transmission problems, which can lead to more serious issues if not addressed promptly.
Engine problems are another common complaint among 2008 Reno owners. Issues such as the engine stalling or losing power while accelerating have been reported. These problems can be indicative of more serious engine issues and should be addressed promptly to prevent further damage.
Exterior problems, such as the trunk not staying closed, have also been reported by 2008 Reno owners. This can be a sign of issues with the latching mechanism or other components of the trunk.
Airbags and seat belts are another area where the 2008 Reno has experienced problems. Owners have reported issues with the airbags deploying unexpectedly or not deploying in accidents. Seat belt issues have also been reported, including seat belts not retracting properly.
Finally, brake problems have been reported by some 2008 Reno owners. Issues such as brakes not working properly or making unusual noises have been reported, indicating potential problems with the brake system.
These common problems with the 2008 Suzuki Reno are based on complaints from owners and may not represent all issues that may arise with the vehicle. It is important for owners to address any issues promptly to prevent further damage and ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicle.
Are Suzuki Renos reliable?
This has been a very reliable car. Great gas mileage and very low maintenance costs. Really like this ride. Besides gas and oil, I have only had to put two sets of tires and 1 set of brakes in a 127K miles.
How long do Suzuki engines last?
1,500 to 2,000 hours
Despite the variations in specifications, it's estimated that a Suzuki outboard motor can last anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 hours, and longer if you maintain it correctly.
Is a 2007 Suzuki Reno a good car?
In most regards, the 2007 Suzuki Reno is an OK vehicle to drive and own, but newer competitors have certainly upstaged it in the areas of handling and refinement. Under the hood of the Reno rests a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 127 horsepower.
Which car engine is long life?
Toyota's 22R engine is often hailed as one of the most robust and long-lasting engines ever produced. Introduced in the late 1970s, it powered various Toyota models for decades. Owners have reported these engines regularly exceeding 300,000 miles, and some even reaching half a million miles with proper maintenance.

- Summary: A COUPLE DAYS AGO THE TIMING BELT BROKE ON MY GM-DAEWOO 2008 SUZUKI RENO. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS JUST UNDER 130,000 THOUSAND AND HAS BEEN VARY WELL MAINTAINED. THE BELT HAD BEEN REPLACED BEFORE WITH A GATES TIMING BELT AT ABOUT 100,000 I BELIEVE. THEREFORE MEANING THE BELT BROKE WITH JUST UNDER 30,000 THOUSAND MILES ON IT, WHICH IS WAY BEFORE THE MANUFACTURE OEM CHANGE INTERVAL IN THE SERVICE GUIDE. I UNDERSTAND THE ENGINE IS A GM FAMILY 2 SERIES ENGINE 2.0 D-TEC 4CYLNDER DOHC I THINK THE ENGINE CODENAME IN THESE ENGINES IS A U20SED/ L34. AS FOR THE BELT, IT JUST SNAPPED BESIDES FOR WHERE IT HAD SNAPPED AND BROKE ITS IN GOOD SHAPE, NO RIPS, TEARS ETC.. JUST WONDERING IF GM IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, I NOT TRYING TO COMPLAIN BUT HONESTLY I FEEL THAT SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG HAD HAPPENED TO MY CAR AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT ABOUT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE FORUM PAGES ONLINE, YOUTUBE VIDEOS, AND THINGS LIKE THAT. I HAD GONE THROUGH ALL THE RECALLS AND SERVICE BULLETINS AND THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAVING TO DO WITH WHAT HAD HAPPENED(THE BELT BROKE ON MY CAR AS WELL AS MANY OTHER RENO AND FORENZA VEHICLES. MAYBE THE TIMING SYSTEM WAS POORLY DESIGNED, MANUFACTURING DEFECT ? I'M NOT SURE, BUT I DO THNK THE TENSIONER MAY HAVE FAILED. I KNOW THIS IS AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE IT HAS ZERO COMPRESSION AND SO IT LIKELY HAS SOME BENT VALVES WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO HAVE THIS TAKEN CARE OF? ALSO THERE'S ONLY ONE SUZUKI SERVICE DEALER THAT'S STILL OPEN IN MY AREA, AS FOR THE RECALL IT HAS I AM PLANNING TO GET IT REPLACED, I CONTACTED THAT DEALER A WHILE BACK AND I AM PLANNING TO GET THAT FIXED VERY SOON. THE VIN FOR THE VEHICLE IS [XXX] I AM IN THE UNITED STATES, I LIVE ACROSS THE WATER FROM SEATTLE BUT IN CANADA I BELIEVE THESE WERE SOLD AS THE CHEVY OPTRA 5 THANKS [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

- Summary: MY 2008 SUZUKI RENO HAS OVER 100,000 MILES AND I FIRST EXPERIENCED SYMPTOMS SOMETIME IN JUNE 2010 ONLY A YEAR AFTER I BOUGHT IT. AT FIRST IT WAS JUST THAT THE CAR SEEMED TO HAVE TROUBLE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP (LIKE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT) AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER THAT THE SYMPTOMS GOT INCREASINGLY WORSE. IT WOULD INTIALLY HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED ABOVE, THEN IT WOULD GET BETTER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF. THEN I STARTED GETTING THE PERIODIC CLUNK AND SCRAMBLED GEAR DISPLAY LIKE ALL THE GEARS WITH A LINE THRU IT ON THE DASH. I TOLD MY HUSBAND WHO CAN WORK ON OLDER MODEL CARS AND HE DROVE IT AROUND THE BLOCK WITH NO PROBLEM, THEN HE WAS IN THE CAR WITH MY GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND IT DID IT AND ALMOST MADE THE CAR COME TO A COMPLETE STOP FROM ALMOST 70MPH WITH VEHICLES BEHIND US. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I GOT IT AND THEY SAID THAT IF THE LIGHT WASN'T STAYING ON ALL THE TIME, THEN THERE WASN'T ANYTHING THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO DO BUT THAT IT DIDN'T SOUND LIKE IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH MY 2008 RENO SINCE IT REACHED 70,000 MILES. I'VE KEPT UP ON MY MAINTENANCE. ALSO BOTH OF MY AIRBAG LIGHTS STAY ON ALL THE TIME, THE PASSENGER LIGHT STAYS ON AS IF NO ONE IS SITTING IN IT EVEN WITH A 200 POUND PERSON SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE CAR HASN'T BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS TO MAKE THEM NOT READ RIGHT. *TR

I love the Reno! It's small, sleek, stylish, and has power everything. Plus, it costs less than $15,000. Enough said.

The Suzuki Reno is an excellent value. Suzuki has delivered just the right formula with this one. It has unique and attractive styling both inside and out. The car comes with lots of standard features, including a pretty darn good stereo CD with four 2-way speakers and four 1

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with my recent purchase of a 5spd Reno (46K) for my daily commute. I drive about 90 miles round trip to work, with about 90% of it being on the interstate. I have to say, the car has exceeded my expectations! I noticed that some of the editor reviews were a bit harsh, but I have had no issues with the ride quality, which is pretty good and quiet. The handling is also okay, and the engine is peppy with the 5 spd. Merging onto the highway has been a breeze. What's more, the standard features are way above what you would expect from an economy class car. I have been getting close to the advertised mpg, ranging between 26-28.5 mpg with an average of 25% city and 75% highway driving. I usually drive at speeds between 70-77 mph. If you're looking for a car that offers maximum mpg, then the Reno may not be for you. However, if you're looking for a car that offers a pretty good package at a reasonable price, then I would definitely recommend the Reno. Shop around and try to get one at trade-in value, and you'll have a great first car or commuter. Let me know if you have any questions!

I just wanted to say that I recently purchased this car and I absolutely love it! The design is fantastic, the paint job is top-notch, and driving it is an absolute blast. The range of options that come with it, such as the AM/FM radio, CD player, and front and rear wipers, are all fantastic and easy to use. It's amazing how much you get for such a reasonable price. I've owned a Focus in the past, and this car has so many features that the Focus didn't have at a similar price point. And let's not forget about the warranty - it's almost enough to sell me on the car by itself!

The Reno exceeded my expectations with its impressive acceleration. On my way home from the dealer, I was surprised to find myself cruising at 35 mph in 5th gear after pulling away from a traffic signal. I was also pleased to achieve 29 mpg on the trip home. To put the Reno to the test, I decided to take it up to the top of Whitetop mountain, which sits at an altitude of 1,600 ft to 3,100 ft. The Reno handled the climb with ease, maintaining a steady 40 mph in 5th gear and navigating the 25 mph curves with no issues. Even when the pavement turned to gravel and 4 inches of snow, the Reno remained in control. I downshifted to 4th gear and slowed down to 35 mph, easily passing several 4-wheel drive vehicles that had gotten stuck in the ditches. Overall, I was thrilled with the Reno's performance and achieved an excellent 49 mpg on the trip.

I purchased the Reno because I was in dire need of a car. However, I regret not doing enough research beforehand. Unfortunately, my car has had starting problems on several occasions and it also gets poor gas mileage for a compact car, averaging about 21 mpg with city and highway driving. On the other hand, a friend of mine owns an '06 Impala that gets 30 mpg with a V6 engine. Although the seats are a bit uncomfortable and the manual transmission is terrible, I wonder how much a decent linkage would cost Suzuki to put in. Additionally, the engine is underpowered. I am considering trading in the car for a Cobalt since the reviews I have read about it are quite positive.

Don't waste your money by throwing it out the window. Unfortunately, the products are not very durable.
Royal Waters 2024-04-13
The transmission in this car requires improvement. Despite repairing the clutch, there is still too much play and it is difficult to shift at the right RPM for optimal fuel efficiency. As someone who has always driven stick shifts, I am disappointed with the performance of this transmission. With 48,000 miles on the car due to my long commute to work, I would not choose this car again. It is clear that improvements are needed to match the quality of my previous KIA.

I had some trouble with the '06 Suzuki Reno, experiencing 'hard start' issues just five days after purchasing it. Unfortunately, the '07 model I was given as a replacement also developed the same issue after just five days. The dealer put me back in the '06, which they claim has been fixed. Although this issue first appeared in the '06 last Spring, Suzuki has yet to develop a permanent solution. According to Suzuki (via the dealer), the hard start problem is limited to the '06 and the '07 I received was an anomaly. If I could cancel my contract with Suzuki, I would. However, I must say that I cannot recommend a Suzuki to anyone, not even my worst enemy. Please take this into consideration before purchasing this car.
